I live a block away from Rainbow and I've seen it go through some ups and downs, especially during the pandemic with low inventory, for example. But today it is as awesome as ever and my go to for vitamins and herbs. There are some extremely knowledgeable folks behind the herb counter, and very kind people at that. It's a great place for natural shampoos, soaps, honeys, herb-based chocolates, household products in addition to all of the vitamins and tinctures as well. AND they have an amazing loyalty program that has saved me a fair chunk when I'm ready to spend big. I'm going to start this by saying, I really hate giving out negative reviews. I also waited to write this review until I gave Rainbow Natural Remedies a few more chances. But unfortunately, today's visit will be my last. I came into the store with a general idea of what I wanted to purchase. There were 3 employees working and only one other customer in store. I didn't receive a greeting, any acknowledgment, or even a smile - nothing. I felt like my presence was a nuisance. Their selection of products is vast and impressive (+1 star), but overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. I would be more knowledgeable of what to buy if staff would be helpful and open to questions. I walked up to someone stocking a shelf with products in my hands, said "excuse me?" to ask for help, and the person just scooted away without looking at me. Yeah, no. After walking a lap around the store trying to get anyone's attention, I waited near the register with products hoping they would at least try to cash me out. Nothing again. I waited 3-5 minutes without anyone coming to help or even a "I'll be right with you" although there were workers on the floor. I just put my products away and left. I can't support an establishment that prides itself on high vibes and wellness but makes their customers feel like sh!t. Today's experience has been consistent with the past 2-3 other times I've been in and I won't be returning. read more

I've probably gone past this place a bazillion times and never thought to walk in for a looksie. The front has that nice natural store of neighborhood look & feel to it. I spontaneously stopped by here on my way to Sugar Plum for some treats. On the inside, it definitely felt much bigger and elongated towards the back. Much of the expansive selection includes brands/products not seen at other natural health stores, big or small, in the Puget Sound area. "An eco-friendly toothbrush from Germany? Cool." "An immune-boosting healthy, non-sweetened bulk powdered chai w/ mushrooms? Interesting." I was pleasantly impressed with this selection of healthy goods spanning many categories (body, oral, household, health, etc). Note: it's a mixture of non-vegan and vegan items. There were 2 gals working that evening. Great selection! Lots of teas, both medicinal and just plain old drinkin' ones, lots of cruelty-free cosmetics and body products, lots of oils and herbs. There are several options for most products at several price points. I was able to find a small vial of tea tree oil for my healing cartilage piercing for less than $6. I didn't interact with the staff so I can't comment on the quality of service, but everything else was great. I'll definitely keep this place in mind for future naturopathic needs. read more

This place is awesome! I stumbled upon here randomly during the street fair and am glad I did. Suffering from various health issues I like to do my best in using natural products to remedy. Bulk herbs, teas, oils, and supplements for all sorts of things. I was able to find several items I couldn't find elsewhere. The staff is super friendly and was able to help answering several of my questions and even provided recommendations. They even have stuff for your pets! I had so much fun browsing and looking through a large selection of natural/herbal products for a make-at-home body scrub. Although prices may be more expensive than other supermarket chains, this store has a lot of variety for you to choose from and is definitely an excellent local store to visit if you are looking for something organic/local or any sort of good health/non chemical products. I ended up buying organic coconut oil, organic raw honey, honey scooper and eucalyptus concentrated oil for around $45....not the most frugal prices but I really enjoyed the experiences seeing different options and asking their staff about some other products (their staff are really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and would not hesitate to provide you with more information about the products you are interested in!) while shopping in there! :) It's definitely one of the few friendly local stores that I wish would never go out of business because of the expansion of giant supermarket/stores in the area these days! read more

They really have a bit of everything here, greeting cards, burdock blend, makeup, essential oils, and the list goes on and on. This place is my new best friend. Herbs and supplements are great, but what I REALLY love about Rainbow is their selection of natural beauty products. They have a few products that I wouldn't touch (since they have less than ideal ingredients in them), but they also have a lot of really great products from local companies. They have awesome soaps, healthy toothpaste, non-lethal deodorant and anti-perspirant, a variety of healthy lip balms (my favorite is Island Thyme - they also carry some of their other products), sun screen, makeup (Zuzu Luxe, which is vegan, natural, and really great looking on, especially compared to the icky mineral makeup that everyone insists is the healthiest way to go), body and hand lotion, shampoo and conditioner, feminine hygiene products, and even babycare products. I don't usually venture out of the skincare section, but I could spend hours in there (and frequently do) just looking at and smelling everything. I don't usually ask for help, but when I do, the staff is really friendly and helpful. It is (by far) the best store in Seattle that I have found for natural beauty products, and I have done a lot of searching. I really want to like this place. They have great products but the customer service is crap. I went in today. I'M THE ONLY CUSTOMER and no hi until well after 5 minutes. Even then it seemed that I was more of a bother. The two employees stayed in the back area chatting among themselves. Again had to ask were to go to pay. The only things said to me were the total and do you want a bag. No "how's your day going?" Nothing, just crickets. And also again no thanks, bye or have a nice day. I work in retail too. If I was to ignore customers like that I'd be in serious trouble. Come on managers/owners. I love your products not so much your people. read more

This store is one of those wonderful discoveries for me: I got here out of curiosity by simply strolling the streets of that area of Cap Hill. The moment you walk in, you will relax. You will hear the water fountain trickling somewhere in the background. Also you will smell a really nice scent of lavender. The wood floors under your feet will make you fell comfortable. I almost felt like getting a massage treatment in the same space would be just so natural. The store itself has a more of a vintage quirky feel. My friend talked me into getting one of those relaxing herb bottles. I totally didn't believed in those (at that times) and just wanted to give in as he was really convincing that I should at least just give it a try. There is so many too choose from! Prices are very reasonable too: anywhere between $8 to $12. Later I was so surprised how strong they are! I took some before going to bed and got relaxed so quickly. Soon I was breathing normally and just listening to my calm breath relaxed me straight to sleep. I look forward to coming here again and checking out more of their remedies. This area of the Hill has a more calm, residential feel and it's very nice to walk around with plenty of restaurants and parks nearby. I highly recommend it! read more

Love this place. Back in 2005 when I was poor and uninsured and thought I was getting an ear infection, I came here and was like "Make me something that will make me not have an ear infection." Some herbs for tea and a couple of little bottles of stuff later, I was cured! (Well, it took a couple of days of gargling tea, but whatever.) I have also come here for other kinds of loose herbs and everyone is always super nice. Sometime I'll get vitamins here, but generally I think it is really expensive, so I will try things from here and then if I like them, go online and order it for a better price. They also have a great selection of books and stuff. I actually got my last calendar/planner thing here and it is great. I love coming by here just to look--and sometimes do some "impulse buying." I love this place so much. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. They truly care about their customers.. One afternoon I stopped in looking for something that would help my husband with his arthritis pain. He suffers from young adult arthritis to which the doctors have preformed a hip operation and prescribed high dosages of pain killers, anti-inflammatories, and then stomach ulcer medication to counter act the affects the medications would have on his stomach. Stephanie (I think that was her name!) gave me loads of advice about inflammation and after I left another employee from Rainbow who I hadn't spoken to, called me offering her suggestions as well. I went home, did some additional research on my own and then returned to buy the one product they had suggested for inflammation, an extremely high dosage of Tumeric and Curcumin. That was four months ago and my husband is completely off all of his other medications and is even back to running his usual 10km/day. Thank you so much Rainbow staff... I can't tell you how much you've helped us!! And on a side note, I also love love love their bulk section of soaps, lotions, and additional home products. I love that this place exists. Just being inside is therapeutic for me. But the last handful of times I've visited, the staff have been extremely unpleasant. One woman in particular has been very rude and condescending during every interaction I've had with her. The other employees stand behind the counter in the back talking to each other and ignoring customers, even when they're waiting to check out at the register. This place is great! They have an amazing tea selection, something for any ailment or just for enjoyment. I really appreciate the wide variety of cruelty-free (non-animal tested) products as well. I come in to Rainbow Remedies when I'm not feeling well and I know what I'm looking for---a tincture or a supplement. I just want a normal check out experience---I don't even need exuberance, but it would be nice if whoever's working there didn't act like I was a burden to them when I need to pay for a product or two (to be fair, I think the managers might be at fault here too). I'd been in a few times to buy supplements with a neutral experience, but it was my last trip in that really made it stand out. I was having some serious back pain and had tried about everything to make it go away. I did not want to go to my normal MD to get a muscle relaxer that would just mask the problem until I stopped taking it. I was hoping for some type of arnica creme/gel/rub/you-get-the-idea and a very empathetic employee helped me find just what I was looking for. She also suggested taking tablets to help with the inflammation. After this, she spent about 20 minutes showing me some various stretches that had helped with her own similar back pain and ways to minimize the pain on the long flight I had to take the next day. It was way above and beyond what she needed to do but she seemed like she really wanted to help and that is why I so highly recommend this place! read more

It's super close to me, very large for an apothecary, and has so much fun stuff! plus, the bulk section is the best for self-care products on the hill. however, i've never once been greeted by an employee and always end up waiting to check-out for so long that i've had to leave twice without purchasing my goods. the employees aren't very personable, either, unless trying to sell you something which is very opposite of the culture behind apothecaries. if you're looking for a white-washed, overpriced (seriously, price-check items there online with other places nearby before purchasing- they up-charge a TON), and lonely experience then this is the place for you! otherwise, head to madrona or the herbalist. both close and far more personable! read more

I used to work in a health food store/vitamin shop, which is a great way to learn about natural medicine, good and reliable brands, and what to avoid (for example, don't waste your time buying vitamins at a drugstore - you may as well just flush them down the toilet for as much good as they'll do you). In the time I worked there, I found the brands that I like and that work the best for me, some of which can be a bit tricky to find. But Rainbow has it all, I can truly do one-stop shopping for all my supplements. Even though it's out of my way and I usually end up running around to a few different places, whenever I do make it here I wonder why I'm not there more often. read more
