An unfortunate and most likely the last experience at Mingo. We brought a first-time guest tonight and sat at the bar. Our intent was to just have a round. We ended up keeping it to just that, because of the service from the bar server, a gentleman wearing a powder blue shirt. He asked if this was our first visit. I replied on behalf of me and my wife, "no". We have frequented Mingo for many years, though running our own local restaurant have been too busy to visit any other place for many months. Drinks ordered, the gentleman then informed us of the food specials. "Lasagna... with beef, which is from a cow." Have you ever been presented with this line? "And beets, which are purple". Fair, as there are a myriad of beet colors but wow, let's keep it to ensuring we are aware of the color of said beets. "And finally, a special with Zenner's Sausage", and he went on to explain it is a local meat producer. Yes, I have purchased them at Winco, Timbers and Hops games too. He asked again if we'd been in before. This pushed me over the top, as employees that know us had already greeted us, management recognized us at the door, and the gentleman's coworkers visually and verbally all greeted us as regulars. I commented under my breath that we had been profiled for our attire. He asked if we were upset, and I confirmed I was displeased with his treatment of our party. Then, the gentleman confirmed my assumption. "So, do you work at _____ pub?", based on the logo on my clothing. "No, I'm off shift and this is a hoodie that fits. I am an owner of _____", unzipping the hoodie and showing the gentleman my branded company shirt. I cashed us out and tipped the staff well. This is now the second time I have been directly judged by staff who apparently have not been trained well. Please don't bother writing back. Just do better at training your employees to not judge customers they are not familiar with. I would have kept this private, but last time the owner personally wrote back to me with a very rude reply, and this time our experience needs to be documented publicly. read more

This is our first visit here despite living in beaverton for years. Almost reluctant to write a review and over Crowd the restaurant. Our waitress was ver knowledgeable about the bar, wine and food. Food.. meh it tastes like a gringo who says they know how to make Italian food but it's "American." For these prices the pasta should be handmade. I had something with beef that looked like a ragu but tasted so bland and the rigatoni tasted like store bought barilla pasta . The calamari wasn't bad. The cocktails are stiff and good. My boyfriend wanted to try MiNGO for our first time to celebrate his birthday. I put down on the online reservation form that we were celebrating a birthday. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. The bruschetta was not traditional and the pieces of bread were not bite sized like a traditional version so it was difficult to eat. The main entrees were small portions for the price and bland tasting. We were surprised that there wasn't a complimentary dessert or even a discounted dessert for the birthday guest. Sadly we will not be coming back to any other MiNGO after this experience. read more

Have wanted to eat here for years and tonight was the night. It's a very cute place, friendly staff and a very clean environment. Tables overlook a park like setting which is very nice on a sunny evening like tonight. We had a glass of wine, a Mingo salad and the ravioli special. The wine was as A+, the salad was great but the ravioli was not edible. It was under cooked, bland, unseasoned and the sauce was the consistency of water with a strong lemon taste. Our server checked on us and we informed her it was Al Dente. It was clear we had only consumed about 2 of the raviolis on the plate which we had cut the outside off to see if the middle (filled) part was more edible. She asked if we wanted it boxed which we replied no and we waited for a solution or an offer of how to make it right. I'm quite surprised no efforts were made after we expressed it wasn't cooked. She brought the bill, which charged us in full for a meal that wasn't edible. I walked away disappointed. Yes I probably should have pushed more of a point about it not being cooked but honestly am not a person to make a fuss. I believe if a customer expresses that a meal is not edible, efforts should be made to make it right. We won't be back. read more

Something has changed here over the last couple of months. The servers are young, untrained and the team doesn't have a cohesive vibe. It makes for a very bland experience if you have ever been to Italy and have had the experience of a true meal served with that certain vitality. An experience that can only be found among teams who are working from a place of true passion and camaraderie. But who cares about the service if the food and wine are truly delicious, right? Well MINGO's did not deliver there either. Our waitress fumbled through opening a bottle of wine she knew nothing about and it was so awkward. For the prices this is a travesty. The food was mediocre American-Italian. And to top it off, management had the weirdest, I-am-better-than-you vibe. Which is laughable because this is Beaverton. You aren't that special. The attitude of management dictates the overall energy of the team. It's kind of a mean girls attitude lol! It will be their own cockiness that finally ruins this place. Pretty decent Italian food at this jawn. The bread is very soft and tasty with the olive oil and herbs they bring with it. this surely wasnt our first choice of restaurants, but we decided to try it out for the first time (mainly because it was saturday night, and not many places in beaverton could seat our party of 8 people). the general atmosphere of this restaurant is really pleasant (especially with good weather!). the decor and aesthetic is really nice with great spaces for both indoor and outdoor seating. theres a really great view of the courtyard when they open the space up. although they had some great choices on their menu, it still seemed a bit limited. we were surprised to see that they didnt have many options in terms of pastas and sauces. some classic things you would think they would have on their menu were not there (like carbonara or a pasta with red sauce, - other than the raviolli). nonetheless, the staff did a great job even though they appeared to be a bit short staffed, and we went during pretty busy hours for them. our server was knowledgable about the menu and did well with answering any questions we had about menu items. our table ordered a variety of things, including the pesce (fish), liguria (pizza), bistecca (steak and pasta), lasagna, garlic bread, mingo+mista salad, etc. i only managed to snap a picture of 2 of the dishes though. overall, everyone seemed pretty satisfied with everything in terms of food and flavor! i would say this place is a tad on the pricier side, but seems like it would be a good place for social gatherings. it is definitely a place worth considering in the summer if youre looking for a chill place to sit and catch up with a friend or have a nice meal with a special someone. read more

We tried this place for a weekday lunch once indoor seating started again after covid closures. I was able to get a reservation easily online. Parking was easy. The restaurant had a very pleasant vibe with plenty of light. We were seated by the window with a nice view of the courtyard outside. We tried the roasted vegetables appetizer, gnocchi, beef penne and the tiramisu. The gnocchi was the only thing I wasn't impressed with but everything else tasted great. I had the foccacia, calamari, and duck ravioli. All of these tasted bland to me, but they had good texture. The bread was soft and the calamari was crispy/chewy. My husband liked the penne, but I thought it was too salty. Service was friendly. We went on a Wednesday evening and the place was pretty packed and loud, I almost had to shout at my husband. When my family first came to Oregon, they got their first taste of the state's witness-protection approach toward Italian-American food. Either the cuisine we knew and loved was blasphemed with cornmeal, ketchup-like sauce, spongy breads and, ugh, ranch dressing or it was disparaged by the owners of "authentic" Italian places who turned up their nose at Southern-influenced foods and made clear that their viewings of the Barefoot Contessa, Under the Tuscan Sun and Eat, Pray, Love made them the arbiters of regional Italian food in this area and rendered more comfortable interpretations "red sauce," Chianti-candle, red-gingham caricatures. To go from a place where our family's food was a heralded default to here--where it was either indifferently mistreated or roundly mocked--was dispiriting. Ray Liotta's speech at the end of Goodfellas about eating egg noodles and feeling like a schnook came to mind. Then, one torrentially rainy day on 21st Street, they discovered Cafe Mingo. Priding itself on simplicity and welcoming my family with open arms in what we later learned was Portland's Northeast Acclimation Zone, Mingo gleefully poured the Chianti, Sangiovese and Montepulciano, spooned out the calamari salad, brought out the mussels marinara and chicken scallopine and finished it off with panna cotta and gelato. My mom cried at the end, missing her own mother and meals back in Jersey more than we knew. Eventually, the relations migrated west to Hillsboro and started taking the Max into town. One summer afternoon, the Blue Line pulled into Central Beaverton and my sister said "hey, is that the same Mingo from Portland?" With time to kill before we needed to meet up with friends downtown, we popped in and discovered Beaverton Mingo. Even less formal than its 21st Street contemporary, it left some of the heavier items off of its menu in favor of seasonal offerings. Antipast, fried calamari and zuppa remained, but a robust pasta menu of house ravioli, calamarata, and lasagna remained. Braised beef and seared cod joined flatbread pizzas. Olive oil cake and one of my mom's disgusting favorite, poach prunes, were on the menu. To our surprise, there was a full cocktail menu and an array of non-alcoholic mocktails to go around. We've gone back to Mingo on several occasions since, and it's a solid middle ground. It's slightly more formal and adult-oriented than Giovanni's while drawing a somewhat tamer date-night crowd than original-recipe Decarli. After Decarli decamped to it's offputtingly mediocre location in a Hall Street strip mall, Mingo suddenly became the most urbane option for Italian dining in the area. You can put some effort into your appearance, step off the train and walk steps into an environment that feels plucked from NW 21st or 23rd and delivered right to Beaverton's doorstep. If you aren't quite done afterward, there's a taproom around the corner and a Salt and Straw a few blocks away. We'll always be grateful to Cafe Mingo for restoring our faith in local Italian-American options, but it's interesting to see how the area has grown into Mingo's approach. The market it opened during the pandemic was replicated by Montelupo and Providore. It's comfort items were copped by Gabbiano's. Even Casa Italia and Gumba became more wholeheartedly embraced during the pandemic. The Beaverton Mingo was a lifeline that became a family staple. I can't thank it enough for all it's given us, and for illustrating that a little warmth, consistency and empathy can earn you customers for life. read more

The focaccia was excellent and the ravioli was perfectly al dente and delicious. Excellent service. Well priced meals. I had the Italian Margarita and enjoyed that a lot. In looking at the reviews I have to disagree as it was much appreciated to have "Johnny on the spot serve". Definitely a preference in service. I agree that it did feel like staff were.hyper.fixated on taking plates and glasses IMMEDIATELY but it was kind of a joke when I held onto my plate when they.came by. I much prefer super quick over.stacked plates and glasses. Food was perfect, party of 6 and everyone was impressed with drinks, food and dessert. I will be a new regular. Came here with coworkers to celebrate a year worth of hard work, and had a good experience during lunch time. It's near the Xmas so it's fun to see some decorations/people exchanging gifts. Our waitress was busy but remained attentive whenever possible. She was friendly and gladly made recommendations when I couldn't make decisions. We ordered various items from their lunch menu. I got the fish plate, espresso and tiramisu. The fish was super fresh/tender, and the pan seared crust was just perfect. I only wish the mushroom was a bit less salty, but I know it might just be me because I've been on a lower sodium diet for a while. The expresso and tiramisu were both good and refreshing. However, I did noticed the dessert had a bit of alcohol aftertaste, which is just a bit heavier than my liking. Towards the end of the meal, we started sharing our food experience. Everyone thought their fish, ravioli, gnocchi, steak and penne tasted wonderful and they absolutely love the tiramisu and dovetail affogato. We went to Mingo for lunch. It is a modern Italian restaurant and the main focus is Italian food. There were some other choices as well. There were a few starters and different kinds of pasta and pizza to choose from. The portions are the right size. The best was their chocolate soufflé. The noise level was moderate and the service was excellent. We liked their new facility and how the dining room is decorated. Homemade everything, yes please! This place was outstanding. We received top notch service from the second we entered we were greeted by friendly employees. (This restaurant does ask for your proof of vaccination status before you are seated.) Upon being seated we were brought waters while we perused the menu. My husband had been here before for a business meeting and thoroughly enjoyed it, so he wanted me to experience it as well. We were just across the way at City Hall to meet with out officiant for our upcoming vow renewal. After meeting with him for an hour and a half we decided on an early dinner. We waited a little bit for our server to come out to take our order and when she appeared she was the friendliest and most thorough server I've experienced in a long time. She was training and apologized for the bit of a wait as they were going over the menu and specials in the kitchen. We were not in a hurry whatsoever and let her know it wasn't a problem at all. She began to explain everything after quickly grabbing our drink order and went right into the daily specials and the different meat and cheeses on the antipasti plate. My Mingo Lemondrop was super yummy and complimented my meal just great. I decided on the penne Al Sugo di carne. It was tasty braised beef mixed with penne pasta. Hubby enjoyed the Bistecca with homemade pappardelle pasta which was phenomenal. The steak was cooked perfectly and the homemade pasta was dressed with a basil olive oil and tasted just beautiful. Chefs kiss!! The whole experience was delicious from start to finish. Of course we couldn't leave without trying their homemade Tiramisu and housemade Creme de limoncello. The dessert cocktail was divine. The Tiramisu was light and literally made by angels. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Can't wait to revisit again soon. read more

No idea how or why I haven't done a review of Mingo. We have been eating here for years. It is one of our favorite places to eat simply because it is always a great experience. Amazing people, great service, insanely fresh well prepared food, the specials are always worth getting but the standards will keep you coming back again and again. The expanded bar keeps the plethora of delicious cocktails coming and they have a really wonderful wine list. Always keep some room for dessert, even if you have to take it home with you, you will not regret it! read more

The gentleman asked if I was a patron and I said no. Then I was denied to use their facilities. Not gonna lie, I haven't been out since the pandemic and to be "greeted" like this and denied of their facilities for basic human rights, I'm less likely to want to patron their restaurant. I don't normally write off a place after trying it once. Usually I'd give it a second chance. However, after this interaction, I probably won't come back. read more

Overall one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in my entire life. I've had better ravioli via Chef Boyardee. We came here on our anniversary. We waited forever for a table, which is weird because the place was a ghost town. The waitress was slow with everything and didn't have much personality. The manger/owner whatever he was seemed very stuck up and fake. They did ask for vaccine cards which was probably the only good thing about this place, but it wouldn't surprise me if I end up catching it from there anyway because nothing, including the staff seemed very clean. We either got food poisoning or got drugged on Saturday night at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I got home and immediately/simultaneously got dizzy, started sweating, light headed, and remained disoriented for hours. I even had droopy eyes. We were on the ground unable to stand up, debated on having someone take us to the hospital. My boyfriend finally threw up which he claimed helped a bit. I did not throw up. It lasted over 5 hours that night until we went to bed from exhaustion, and then still felt awful the next day, and it carried over even two days later with random spells of dizziness, unable to see well/drive, tremors, and no appetite. We do not have Covid or any other sickness, we know it was caused from eating at this restaurant. We called to let them know what happened and all we got was "sorry, no one else complained though". We paid 140$. I will never eat here again. I had a weird vibe when I got there and I clearly should've listened to my gut. read more

Everything about our experience here was wonderful. From our hostess who greeted us and got us comfortable with a glass of wine while we waited for our table,The ambiance, and the food. Small string lights are overhead, olive plants situated next to candles and flowers on the tables, and professional staff made this a place we will return to. Our server, Claire, was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu as well as what would pair well together. We always had our food hot and right in sequence ( a complement to the chefs who did a fantastic job of keeping food in sequence.) Food wise, we tried a bit from each category. Their take on a Cesar salad is delicious. The dressing is made fresh the lettuce is crisp, and the flavor is unbelievable. The gnocchi and the focaccia bread are incredible. I would go here just for that bread and I don't usually eat bread. The bread is light, with a hint of olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. It's served warm with salt and olive oil, but it's delicious without anything else added. The Bolognese sauce on the gnocchi is not too heavy. It's creamy and light to complement the dish. Next was the steak with butter noodles and a tomato glaze. I will have to get the name of this one. Again, the noodles were light but bursting with flavor. Then we tried the pork with chianti and espresso marinade. This was a simple looking dish but the flavor is unbelievable. Dessert was elegant and delicious. The tiramisu is not to be missed with its layers of chocolate, and cream. Then there was the apple crostani which is like an apple pie wrapped up in a dumpling and served warm with caramel sauce. They will also pair it with gelato if you prefer. From beginning to end, this place is incredible. Please note that they are asking for proof of vaccination for those 12 and above. They have you show this as you are greeted, and from there, dining is a breeze of flavor and relaxing. We will be back to try more! read more
