Overdue review I had teeth cleaning with Dr. Luu 2 years ago in 2021 during the covid time. My first impression walking to the office, the front desk had no greeting and no smile. They won't ask you do you need help with anything even if they saw me walk into the office. I had to walk up to tell them I had an appointment. Anyway, I visit this office twice. The first time the Doctor say in a nice way I need deep cleaning, however, I didn't do it. 6 months later I went back for my second annual cleaning. This time the Doctor rise his voice say to me, I already told you, you need to do deep cleaning, your gum is bad and you will lose all your teeth. One of his staff was next to me when she heard the Doctor says that to me. She shakes her head to agree with Dr. Luu. When I see her reaction I was like WTH, now I get why your staff is impolite and unprofessional. In my head was like no matter what, you don't rise your voice to patients, and I will do the deep cleaning somewhere else at least with a nicer Doctor, I will never come back here again. In 2022, I went to a different Doctor and I insisted to ask do I need a deep cleaning. This Doctor told me no you do not need deep cleaning at all, your teeth and gum are healthy. This year 2023 I went to another Doctor, this Doctor didn't even say I need any major services like deep cleaning, my teeth and gum are healthy. Because of my insurance, I go to different doctors. Why am I writing this review after 2 years later, it is because I have seen two doctors, and none of them told me I need deep cleaning besides Dr. Luu. Not sure if he is still new to dentistry, he needs more experience or he needs to work on his customer services skills or he wants to get more money from his patients but for sure I won't go back to Mint dental. read more

Trying to understand why this dentistry office has high ratings? Although, they are all before 2016, so most in 2017 are not good. I had to find a new dentist because sadly mine retired after seeing him since I was 7 years of age. Looking for someone who would accept my dental insurance, found him. Well, after seeing my family, feel he has taken advantage of the insurance company. The front desk receptionist constantly harassed my family with phone calls and text messages, of which were minors under the age of 18, for appointments. Dr. Luu has no sympathy toward patients who have phobias for dental work. Being so young, definitely needs to work on customer service skills and get to know his patients, which will come with experience, but I know many people are leaving his practice because he and his staff lack the 'personal' side of their customers. I never felt comfortable with him. He is NOT 'gentle' as a previous review states. He was rough. I had cavities filled, and started working before the anesthetics were even in effect. Didn't even check to see if I was numb before he tried to start working on it. I had two other cavities to be filled, but I have TMJ so my jaw is locked and is difficult to get to. However, they still need to be filled! o resolution from him, and they are just sitting there, unfilled. I would imagine I am not the only customer with TMJ. So, with this being said, haven't heard boo from the office. Not even to schedule the 6 month, routine appt. So, I am now taking my family elsewhere to a practice that cares about his patients. read more

It's been four years since i seen a dentist her work came highly recommended and after making time on a saturday plus the full work she did the treatment was conservative i highly recommended her work i can say i have found my dentist. One big happy smile now thanks Dr Nguyen. read more

I cannot for the life of me understand the 5 star reviews here except they are mostly from 2013-2015. Something MUST have happened because like Mairi who reviewed in January 2017, my experience was the same. Worse for me disabled with chemical issues. Had there not been a handicap ramp for a wheelchair, they likely would have left. I should have done the same. There is NO compassion or caring here. I walked in and was excited to have found the place. It was stoic. The lights were dimmed in a small contemporary setting. There was no warm reception or any reaction to anything I said entering except a clipboard and "fill these out, you can have a seat over there." - silence- I took my clipboard and my happy face and went away. No greeting, no confirmation that I was the "new patient".. clearly I was the ONLY one expected. Step back to appointment time by phone. My disability is chemicals even in small amounts below OSHA limits so I must call ahead and ask "random" questions about air fresheners, perfumes and such. If so, I can't come in. Lesson learned... visit in person before an appointment. This won't be important for many reading, except the lack of empathy. Reading Mairi's post though it's probably not discriminatory, they just don't give a P@@P about anything but $$! I brought my completed papers to the desk... no thank you, no smile, just "ok" so I sat down. A few minutes later she opens to door and calls my name (funny to call my name out when I'm the only one there!) I follow her and she says we are going to take xrays. I noticed the waif of perfume behind her but figured I could make it a few minutes. She went to put the heavy apron on me and her arm reaching around me was like a plastic bag over my head. I had to take a step back. Mind you, this is a disability with breathing for me and most others would be okay with it. Odd in a medical setting to have so much perfume however. We completed the xrays and she led me to a chair. There was no emotion, no smile, no "how are you".. just "you can sit here..." and we're taking more xrays. I was borderline walking out due to breathing already. I really should have if I knew what was next. I asked if she would also be the person cleaning my teeth. She said "no" again no emotion. I felt compelled to explain I was having breathing issues due to perfume. She said "do you want someone else to take your xrays" and I said if someone else was available, yes, thank you. No friendly face there either.. just "I will be taking your xrays". I felt like I was in the total twilight zone but from the great reviews the dentist will be amazing.. NOT!! He comes in totally expressionless looking down and says "What brings you in". I said my insurance changed so I am looking for a provider for my family and am due for a cleaning and check up. I told him I come every 4 months and he asks "4 months?" Surprised after lowering the chair like its been years looking in my mouth. I say it might have been 5 from the last visit due to insurance change and mentioned again I had X-rays 4 months ago... nothing, not a word except "put these on". He gives me sun glasses and pulls out the ultrasonic. My teeth have been sensitive since a procedure many years ago but no dentist has even been so condescending or insensitive. After I flinched a couple times he says "Can you please try to stop jumping".. I said I don't usually use the ultrasonic it's too sensitive and painful on my teeth. He says "there's no other way to clean them". Finally I ask if they can just take the spit sucker thing out as it creates cold and makes my teeth super sensitive (works everywhere else). I didn't care if water ran all over me. The gal working just set it down and walked away. NOT a single word. Dr. Luu stopped and held the instruments over my face staring at me for almost 30 seconds (Still STARING- totally uncomfortable) and I finally said to just go ahead and finish. He grabbed the spit thing and curled and hung it over my lip and just kept going. When I flinched he just said the air wasn't anywhere near he was working right after he stopped and asked me if I wanted to be numbed up for the rest of the cleaning. Yup because you don't know how to scale teeth or accommodate a patient let's numb them up with Novocain. By the end of the cleaning my airways were so inflamed I was literally making snorting noises breathing. Not even a question. My lung function plummeted 20% and I'm back on steroids from this one visit. Why fill out those extensive papers you shoved at me when I arrived if you don't read them?? Chemical issues aside, this the WORST dental experience over the past 15 years. Not ONE smile from ANYONE in the office.. Not ONE "how you doing". I was made to feel like I was the awful person ruining their day yet there is only ONE chair in the office. That says it all! Many others MUCH better in Livermore!!! Wondering what DID those X-rays show that I didn't need? Doubt they were even looked at. read more

Wow, I read the reviews and thought this would be a great experience but sadly was turned off by Dr. Luu. (Office staff is nice and accommodating). I've been twice and the first time he tried to up-sell me on whitening and braces (I had them when I was in middle school, thank you). Then my second visit he never said a word to me, nothing! He came in, cleaned, and left. Seriously, I have never had a doctor of any sort never talk to their patient. Each time I have been there, I am the only one and there a gaps where I think more chairs might be but it just seems strange, like it is a brand new office? I do have to say their equipment is very new and I like the water-based cleaning tool (instead of so much scraping traditional dentists use). read more

My recent trip to Mint Dental with Dr. Luu was every patients dream, short, professional and painless. Other dentist offices make me wait up to 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment. I was seen promptly and greeted with a smile. I suffer from tori both on the upper and lower part of my mouth making any dental x-rays extremely painful. Mint Dental's state of the art technology made X-rays pain free! This was the first time in my life I didn't leave with cuts in my mouth. I recently moved to Livermore and was looking for a new dentist when I received a postcard from Mint Dental. I went in for their free exam and discovered my mouth was a train wreck. Dr Luu was very understanding and we developed a game plan to correct the neglect I had given my mouth. I saw Dr. Lisa Nguyen for the first time last week based on her Yelp reviews and location. I was totally happy and satisfied with her skills and personality. Marlene was great too! No complaints - right on time, friendly and no over selling of work to be done. The only problem is she is only there on Wednesdays at this point. Hopefully she will be here more often in the future. I have been dentist hopping for the past few years, until now! I can't recommend Mint Dental and Dr. Luu enough. The office is state of the art, brand new equipment, chairs, everything. Dr. Luu is a great dentist, very knowledgeable and good at what he does. I have had several cleanings, fillings, a root canal and ZOOM! whitening with him and I will continue to go back. The fillings were because my old dentist did shoddy work and most of my fillings had to be replaced, not only mine but my siblings as well. They also go to Dr. Luu now too. read more

Their no wait policy is awesome, they accomplish this by not overbooking. Who needs built up anxiety with dental work. I was in search for a dental office to take care of this cavity that was bothering me and was recommended to this office through a family friend. I was very impressed when I got there because everybody was very friendly and professional. The office is very neat and most importantly, CLEAN, which is comforting to know since they will be working inside of our mouth. It did not take long to be called in and be seen by Dr. Luu. I had bad experiences with this Dental office . The customer service is awful. The front desck assistant doesn't know what she is doing. She scheduled the appointments for both of my kids, we got there just to find out she didn't do her jod at confirming the eligibility and benefits; she spend an hour trying to find out, and she never did, we left without being able to have the procedure done. The Dentist is rude, he doesn't know how to treat patients. When I rescheduled the appointment for my son he kicked me out of the room in a very rude way, so I left with my son. I know I have the right to be with my son during his procedures. Their cleanliness is questionable. I ask for a cup of water for my son and the front desck assistant told my son to get water from the sink faucet. You must know that dental water lines are infested with all kinds of bacteria. She should know better! Run away from this Dental office as fast as you can!!! read more
