Croissant and sausage sandwich with potatoes.
    Susan S.

Well, reviews are certainly mixed on this place! At 10 am on a Thursday, the place was almost empty. I ordered at the register and the server was a bit intimidating, but when he eventually served my water at the table, he smiled. I ordered a croissant sandwich with scrambled eggs and sausage, no cheese, and potatoes. It seemed like it took a while considering that no one else was ordering, but my food arrived looking very good. The croissant was one of the best that I have ever tasted, and the sausage was a real meat sausage, not a frozen cardboard one. I like my potatoes crispy like these were. This was a $15 order! I asked to purchase two croissants, but they had none to sell, so I am not sure that they are made on site. I did notice an overflowing sink full of soiled dishes and I later read the health inspection violations. I would not come back here based on these, and the initially temperamental service. My food was good, but expensive. The inside of the cafe was sadly lacking any European charm with the exception of the pastry display. No obvious dirt, but an air of neglect. Out of the way location.

Terrible burnt potatoes that tasted more like croutons.

Pulled into the parking lot shortly after they opened on a Tuesday morning. There were no cars in the lot and a man smoking a cigarette outside the side door of the restaurant. Walked in and there were barely any pastries in the case and no other patrons. It seems as though the only man working was the one outside smoking when we first pulled in. We waited over twenty minutes for our food because he cooked everything by himself. The potatoes were burnt, everything was bland, and nothing was worth the price. We will NEVER return. I cant believe we had to spend our hard earned money on this mediocre fair. Do yourself a favor and go to Erica's cafe instead. Cant believe this place is still open. So disappointed.

    Monte Cristo Lunch

Best Monte Cristo I've ever had! Super fast and kind service, 5/5 stars. I rarely write reviews because when I do I want them to have weight, this place is a stand-out. 5/5. 10/5!!!

Since 1990 this french inspired cafe/bakery has been serving up breakfast, lunch and oh so many desserts, this review is specifically for their Macarons! Macarons, the sandwich cookie, not to be mistaken with Macaroons, it's more dense and coconuty cousin. They're a challenge to make, so it's nice to have places like these serving them up by scratch for you, I've thus far only tried 2 flavors, their Mint Macarons with a chocolate filling some years back and a few weeks ago the Coconut Macaron with a chocolate center. Both are very delicious and make great favors for a party for all your guests, best to call in or come early, before they're all gone! They sell like hotcakes! I'm only knocking off a star since I can't vouch for their other items, I noticed they carry the same Chocolate Peanut Butter and German Chocolate individual cake slices we tried at KP Market which weren't very moist, but dry, so I don't know if they're the supplier or both places get them from somewhere else, making me question their freshness...to be continued on my next visit.

Enjoyed a delicious breakfast here this morning. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was so good. Sadly we were too full to get get any of the delicious pastries. Silly of us we should have shared breakfast so we could enjoy a pastry too. I had the Breakfast Croissant with fruit on the side. Oh so good. Hubby had frittata also with fruit which he enjoyed. Others had other delicious looking breakfasts. No leftovers at all.

Got a few different types of cakes - we all enjoyed them Each one was very good- light cakes- no heavy creams. Chocolate was perfect. . Owner I assume was there - was very kind man - and even offered salads to take home to try in case I'd do catering there ! And they have those cute little mouse cakes - kids enjoyed those ! Will be back :))!!

There was lots of parking right in front of the restaurant that made getting inside super convenient. There was plenty of room for us to sit at a large table with our babies in high chairs & strollers nearby. Inside the cafe is decorated very nicely. The staff were so kind and welcoming too. I ordered a mocha and the sweet cheese crepes. My mocha was the perfect balance of sweetness and chocolatey! I savored every sip. The real star of the show though, were the crepes. They were perfectly soft but with a slight crisp on the outside just like I like them. The filling was sweet but not overly and was well balanced with the slight bitterness from the berry topping on the crepes. Overall the ambiance, food, and accessibility make this a great spot for brunch! Will definitely be coming back.

There is also a side area to eat, however there were a number of flies buzzing around, which made it unappetizing (this was kept my review from being a full five stars). The indoor area is a mix of dark woods and faux plants, which creates a relaxed atmosphere. As for the food, there was only one plant-based (vegan friendly) option for me: the cilantro lime avocado toast. This came topped with micro greens and pickled onions, and with a side of potatoes. The portions were very generous for the price and the food was delicious. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the staff were kind. I also ordered an Americano that was good. This spot is like a little hidden green jewel in Citrus Heights. I hope more businesses fill out this complex so they can continue to do well.

I came during a busy hour which wasn't idea but didn't affect anything in regard to the taste of what I got! Typically I like to find a spot that's quietly busy so if you're wanting to do the same I would try to come when it's less busy as I found myself slightly overstimulated by the business and seeing all the seats filled up which otherwise is a good sign! The Banana Dream Match caught my eye so I ordered it immediately along with an Avocado toast + egg ( extra cost). They give you a buzzer for the food and you have to find a corner to wait in that's out of the way and pick your food up by the kitchen. The vibe was very open and I liked the different seating options as well as the abundance of outlets. I ended up eating outside to get away from the busyness and the I was in the middle of talking when the taste of the Banana hit me. The best. Banana matcha I've ever had. Which I didn't expect because I've tried so many but what I loved most is that the banana flavor was sweet but tasted like real banana and the matcha flavor was still present. The banana flavor wasn't just at the top either it was top to bottom so every sip tasted the same making it soooo good!! The Avocado toast was good as well a little on the tangy side but I loved the egg. Great spot when it's less busy which would make parking easier as well but glad I stopped in to find my new favorite matcha spot.

I mentioned Fair Oaks Brew Pub as an option I found on Yelp &, as a local, he said it was a great choice. We almost immediately scored street parking only a few doors down. I'd never been to Old Fair Oaks Village before. Looking around, the little town center was more reminiscent of a historic gold country town up in the foothills than Sacramento suburban sprawl. The cutesy charm of the surroundings extended to Fair Oaks Brew Pub itself. Greeted as soon as we walked up, we chose to sit out in their inviting patio area on a perfect Spring day. Our server was along shortly. She was friendly, helpful, & the right amount of attentive. For brew pub fare, we both chose the Risky Burger. Essentially a Western bacon BBQ variation of their regular cheeseburger. Sides were upgraded to onion rings. For the brew, I got their Chicken Foot Pale Ale. Everything was up before long. The Risky Burger was outstanding. Crispy bacon, tasty onion rings (in the burger, as well as on the side), gooey melted cheese, & a perfectly cooked patty just juicy enough to turn the last bite or 2 of the whole burger into a bit of a mess. The Chicken Foot Pale Ale was decent for style, though a little old school in terms of recipe/ malts/ hops. Still, a refreshing pairing for the Risky Burger. All in all, Fair Oaks Brew Pub was a great spot to grab a bite & a beer in an unexpectedly scenic pocket of suburbia.

We weren't asked if we needed refills, how our food was, or if everything came out correctly. At one point, I had to get up and go to the bar myself just to order another drink, which definitely took away from the overall experience. It felt like we were completely forgotten. The atmosphere and food may have potential, but the lack of attentive service made it hard to fully enjoy our visit. Hoping this was just an off night, but it wasn't a great experience.

I recently had a wwwwaaaayyy more satisfying breakfast at Mario's Early Toast for half that price. Hot off the griddle is a big improvement over a Denny's. But that's a pretty low bar for judgement. The server that seated me brought my coffee, but she didn't bring me any creamer. I didn't catch it at first, until she brought me my coffee, and I noticed there was none on the table When a different server came to take my order, she spoke hardly any English. When I asked her for the steak omelette, she understood that part, but when I said what I wanted with the omelette, plus when I started to ask for creamer in my coffee, she just looked at me, kind of confused, obviously, she didn't understand, she went to get another server who came back in a couple of minutes I asked, and she brought me creamer for my coffee. I put in my order, asking for fruit instead of potatoes, and my toast with the butter on the side. My food comes quickly, except for my toast. She says, I will bring you your toast. I was halfway through my meal, and I still didn't have my toast. My server walked by, and before I could say anything, she looked at me, and said, "oh, let me get you your toast." the toast came, and instead of having the butter on the side, it was *SLATHERED* with butter. Not only that, but the toast was overdone, and it tasted burnt in some spots. It took so long to get it the first time, I didn't bother asking them to redo it. The steak omelette itself just wasn't as good this time. They were generous with the fillings, but the steak was pretty chewy, and it just didn't taste very good. It had some kind of an aftertaste. Not only that, the roasted jalapeño that I had last time, it's obvious that it only kissed the grill for a few seconds. I took one bite, and it was way too spicy for me. I could tell that it had hardly been cooked at all. The coffee was OK, and the fruit was very good and very fresh. The fruit, and the politeness of everybody saved this from being a two star review. Again, the price was reasonable, and they do offer the military/veterans discount, but the breakfast just wasn't as good this time. I don't think I will be back again. There's plenty of other places that I can go to. Thanks anyway.
