I was visiting VA beach and stopped by Misako for lunch!! The quality of the seafood was immaculate (the eel was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the salmon was absolutely delicious). My friends also got Misako's ramen, which seriously shlapped. I would highly recommend this restaurant for those in the VA beach area (their menu ranges from ramen to donkatsu to sashimi). This restaurant is the reincarnation of the Misako that was open in town center, and it is owned by the same family. The business always did well, but according to the family "they just wanted to focus on making quality food", so they opened this smaller location. I sure am glad they did! Upon entering this establishment we were greeted and immediately told our wait time, and position in the "waiting" line. Given it was 8pm, and this place was still packed with a 9pm closing time was a positive sign. After waiting for 15 minutes, 5 minutes shorter than the 20 minute expected wait, we were seated and promptly served by Gavin, the owners son. We started our order with Edamame and Seaweed salad. The Edamame was salted, seasoned, and cooked correctly. The portion size of the Edamame was impressive for the price. Highly recommend this dish. The seaweed salad was lightly coated in ginger dressing. Very fresh, crisp, and refreshing. I was happy both with the taste and presentation. We then ordered our entree. Our order: Salmon, Crab, Octopus, and Eel Nigiri. Tuna Roll, Twin tower roll. Buttery Salmon, Soft-but-Firm Octopus, Pan seared-sauced Eel, Fresh Tuna, and Shrimp Tempura? Yes please! After a delightful entree I felt the meal could only be improved by finishing with some Mochi Chocolate Ice Cream. This was fantastic! Highly suggest getting some Mochi ice cream if you never have, as there is nothing quite like it. You can eat your fill and not break the bank here. Quality sushi on a budget. Misako is a new restaurant in my neighborhood. I wanted to try it twice before making a review. They've recently replaced another Asian restaurant that was your typical quick delivery/takeout spot. Thinking it was the same type of establishment, I stopped by to order takeout. I was pleasantly surprised at the layout and decor vs the previous restaurant. They've great use of the space. At first glance, you can clearly see that it is mainly a dine-in establishment. However, they do offer the option of ordering takeout. The food is very delicious! During my first visit, I ordered Shoyu Ramen, Chicken Teriyaki, and Fried Rice with Cashu Pork. The ramen and Fried Rice were very delicious and flavorful. The teriyaki was good, but not the best. There seemed to not be enough teriyaki sauce in the chicken. It was soaked up by the rice. The chicken was still good, and it's definitely worth trying again. During the second visit, I dined in. I ordered Red Miso Ramen (spicy), Fried Rice with Cashu Pork (again!), Gyoza, Misako Fried Chicken Wings, and Hot Sake. Everything brought to the table was VERY delicious! That was my first time trying spicy ramen, and I'm very pleased with my first experience. Each bow of ramen is server with an egg, very flavorful bamboo shoots, nori, corn and scallion. You can also add additional/extra ingredients for an additional cost, which ranged from $1 to $2.50. The chicken wings were big and juicy. You can really taste the soy and garlic marinade. The dumplings were tender (pan fried) and flavorful. The service was very inviting on each of my visits. I believe Misako will be very successful, and I'm happy they've moved into the neighborhood. Same friendly people that owned Misako on Virginia Beach Blvd now own this smaller restaurant on Shore Drive. They always treat you like a guest in their home. We started with a pork bun and a beef bun. The meat was tender and flavorful with fresh crisp green onions. We also had the short ribs. We used to enjoy these at their other locations. I'm so glad I can get these again. I've never found any short ribs that are so flavorful. There was a lot of meat on these. they arrived at our table nice and hot. We ordered the Cha Jang Mein to split. It had lots of meat with a spicy sweet sauce. I can't handle any spice and I still wanted to eat it. My dining companion loved it. The newly opened Misako is owned by the same friendly people as the one that was at Loehmann's Plaza. Even though they downsized, don't let that deter you, as their food is still phenomenal! Not to mention the staff is always friendly and welcoming which enhances the dining experience. They offer variety of Asian appetizers, entrees and sushi. Everything on the menu was super appealing and as much as I wanted sushi.... I know I wouldn't be able to eat it all so I enlisted the help of the waiter. He was super friendly and suggested some of his favorite dishes. We ended up ordering the Salt and Pepper Calamari, Chicken Katsu Don, Hong Kong Style Chajang Mein, and Tonkotsu Ramen. The Salt and Pepper Calamari was extremely crispy with a light batter and the calamari was tender ( not rubbery tire like texture I've gotten at some places ). It was toss in a concoction of spices and garlic. It was so scrumptious my toddlers ate most of it! Tonkotsu Ramen had a flavorful broth ( the few bites I had because my kids ate all of it!). The noodles were cooked al dente without the hot broth over cooking it. The char sui pork was tender and the flavors of the dish were clean. Hong Kong style Chajang Mein was something I wasn't familiar with however based on the suggestion of my server, I decided to try it. It was delicious! The authentic Asian Chow Mein noodles ( not the crispy one) mixed with a ground pork sauce that was sweet and spicy. It wasn't overly spicy that the kids couldn't try it either which is how I like it! Where do I begin with the Chicken Katsu Don?... besides explosion of flavors in every bite?! If you've never had chicken Katsu Don, you must try it. It's a rice dish topped with chicken, eggs, onions, and shitaki mushrooms that marries in this sweet but savory soy like sauce. It sounds simple enough right?... but I've had some that lacked in flavor or was soupy. Misako is definitely not one of those places! The chicken Katsu is white meat chicken ( yay! I don't like dark meat) that was super juicy with a thin layer of panko. The egg was fluffy with the perfect portion of onion and shitaki mushroom and sauce. All that over rice?! Yum! I'm seriously drooling writing this review. Even though they are no longer a buffet, the quality of their food is still superb and I will definitely be returning soon! read more

I ordered takeout from here and it was ready fairly quickly. I played the items in the picture at home, but the spread is all from Misako. I ordered the miso soup, California roll, spicy tuna roll, and a pork bun. The soup was perfect - it's what you would expect from a miso soup to start your meal and it delivers. The rolls were satisfying. I liked how they put a dollop of spicy mayo on the spicy tuna rolls. I can not recommend their pork buns enough though. Just get the pork bun here. Do it. Run don't walk here! I don't know why it took me so long to try this place when I grocery shop at Kroger right next door. I ordered take out one evening and was blown away! First of all the portions are huge so you will get several meals out of it which is great! The rolls are very nicely sized and they tasted so much fresher than most sushi I have had in the area. I got the avocado roll & shrimp tempura. Both were incredible. I got the chicken katsu ramen and it was very great! The broth wasn't super salty like most ramen. I can only imagine how much better the food taste when eating it at the restaurant. One happy customer !! read more

Came here to try the ramen and wasn't disappointed! As soon as you walk in you're seated and handed a menu and asked for drink orders. The place is relatively small with limited seating, but on a Friday evening there was only one other group dining. Service was super fast and attentive. I tried the red miso ramen and my friend had the tonkotsu ramen. The noodles are cooked well and not too chewy, the broth is super flavorful, and the pork and egg were cooked perfectly. The red miso ramen wasn't as spicy as I thought it was going to be but it was still good, and the tonkotsu ramen had really good broth. They have more variety than your general ramen restaurant in the area, including kimchi ramen and one with soft shell crab. I also tried the pork bun and it was really good. The bun was super soft and the pork was flavorful, and it was pretty big/well stuffed compared to others I've gotten before at different restaurants. read more

I enjoyed a nice bowl of spicy Miso Ramen. I'm kind of a ramen snob especially since I know what it's supposed to taste like. I enjoyed ramen at the Mecca of ramen joints--Japan. It's pretty authentic here. However, I wanted more miso paste. I asked for extra miso and was willing to pay for it, but the server gave me spicy chili oil instead and said that "it was an extra cost for miso paste." I was totally ok with paying more, so I'm not sure why I couldn't get more. Maybe I offended the cook? Anyways, I like the decor but the chairs/tables didn't seem to match. This place was yummy. We used to go when they were located on Virginia Beach Blvd. and served a sushi buffet. I really miss them at that location doing a sushi buffet. Perhaps it was an off day as sushi chefs were leaving for vacation a few days later. I treated my family here, and though the service was excellent, it was a tad slow. It was just one person, so no big deal really. It was expected. He was super informative and took our order as soon as he came back (as we were ready by that time). Per other Yelp reviews, I definitely tried the pork steam bun. It was yummy, but it was missing more sauce that gives it that flavor. I ordered takoyaki (essentially fried octopus rounds) as that's an appetizer my family loves. They seemed to prefer it from another location since, again, it seemed to lack sauce for them. I was the only one who went with chicken katsu ramen as it was a cold night. I LOVE how spicy they were able to make their ramen, but the chicken katsu itself needed more flavor & love. It seemed a little tough and failed to soak in the ramen the way I've enjoyed this dish at various locations. It was pretty close to chicken katsu of Aloha BBQ that got thrown in my ramen. The ramen broth was delicious though, and they provided extra homemade chili oil on the side to help give my ramen the 'oomph' I was looking for. The sushi was still fantastic as I remember from their old location. They even have a "create your own" option if you were looking for a specific roll or ingredient and can add whatever to their sushi menu. Absolutely no complaints with the sushi! This location is quite a drive from where I live, but they don't have anything I would crave and come back for. Service is friendly but slow once it's busy. Sushi and ramen broth are pretty great.
