Today was the perfect day to have Korean food,. Joking, every day is a great day for Korean food. Instead of my usual favs I decided to try their lunch special. Selected the galbi lunch and it was perfect. It came with two gunmandu, rice, cucumber kimchi, cabbage kimchi, dried seaweed and galb. If you have not tried their lunch special you are missing out. Fun fact- the restaurant has changed hands. They have a new owner and some new staff. The food is still delicious and the service remains fantastic. read more

This is our spot if we want Korean food that is not bbq. It had changed overtime in terms of food, I had the samyupsal, it was okay but not great, we also ordered beef gimbap which is very plain, I think the cook changed as well not as good as before. The service is not so good as well, you order on a tablet and you thinking it will be better but you have to get the attention of the injured server which we really feel so bad for, he did tried his best but hopefully they get more for at least the busy period. The restaurant looks good. I will still give it a try but not soon. read more

I love Korean food and this place was close to wear we were staying. As you walk in the decor is great. The electronic menu on the table is a bit annoying. We got galbi and bi bim bap. It took a while for them to bring out our little plates and it wasn't what I was used to or as much I I would've liked. Broccoli, bean sprouts and kimchee. I asked for some more kimchee and they brought us some. It was good. The galbi was good. It was also $30.00. The servers were nice and the meal ended with a Korean non carbonated drink that was really good. I might try another Korean place in norfolk before I went back here but it was good. read more

We decided to go to Hansang for soup on a rainy day. The interior is cozy and K-pop music was playing. Our server came over to give us menus and showed us how to order food on the tablet. For an appetizer, we got the Korean corn dogs. I enjoyed the combination of sweet & savory. For the main course, we got the mandu soup & a spicy seafood stew.They were both delicious and nourishing. The probiotic drink was a nice touch at the end of the meal. Both the food and service were good! I love this place but my recent experience wasn't good. There's barely any customer service now with the iPad ordering system. I had to ask for everything, water, utensils, serving spoons, bowls... it's not what it used to be. Food is still great though, customer service just needs to return to what it used to be. read more

I've been on the hunt for a Korean spot like this -- Hansang brought me and my husband right back to our favorite mom-and-pop date nights back in Chicagoland. Everything we ordered hit the spot: dolsot bibimbap, galbi, two Terra beers, and a bottle of strawberry soju. Ordering was super easy with the table-side tablet, and everything came out at a good pace. The restaurant was a bit warm inside (maybe the A/C was out?), but honestly, it kind of added to the charm -- like we were tucked into a cozy restaurant somewhere in Asia. Prices are on the higher side, but the portions were generous. We had enough leftovers for another full meal for two. One thing to note: they close at 8pm even on Saturdays. We came around 7 and were still able to enjoy a relaxed, satisfying meal until closing. All in all, we had the best night here. We'll definitely be back. read more

Pro: moderate size parking lot, clean interior, nice staff, tablet ordering. Con: wait time for food. Went here for dinner and this place has a moderate size parking lot so no issue finding a parking space. Upon entering we were seated quickly and informed to order our food through the tablet. For the entree, I had the bulgogi with rice. Bulgogi sauce was flavor and when mix with the rice it was very well balanced. Wow! I loved everything about this place. It was so cute inside and owned by a Korean family and all the waitors/waitresses were super nice! The decor was amazing as well and had beautiful artwork to make it feel like I was in Korea. There was a lot of parking right out front and the inside was very big. We got seated immediately and ordered so many different things! We got a couple appetizers, a chicken bbq dish, and two different stews/noodles. The service was not super fast but not super slow either and man we definitely got too much for two. Just know that the portions are HUGE! I loved that about the food. The food was all fresh and warm with amazing kimchi and radish and sauces. Definitely recommend the vegetable pancake and rice cakes from the appetizers as well as the spicy chicken bbq. I now have food for two more meals! I did however not like that the shrimp was not peeled already which made it tough to eat the noodles, but besides that no complaints! Hansang Korean Restaurant is probably the best all-rounded Korean restaurant in COVA IMHO. They have the best variety of the main traditional dishes that Korean cuisine is known for in the States. Of course, if you're craving Korean fried chicken, or Korean BBQ cooked at the table, there are better places for that. However, for all the soups and stews and general Korean food, this is the spot. I'll cut right to the chase. I've been there twice now and these are the things we've had: - Kimbap - direct translation would be something like seaweed rice. They are Korean seaweed rolls, which I refuse to call sushi, because #1, it's not Japanese and #2, in Korea, we do not typically prepare kimbap with raw fish). They roll it nicely here and it stays in tact. They've kept it the OG way with egg omelette, spinach, carrots, pickled radish and bulgogi. Great to snack on! - Jjangjangmyun (black bean noodles) - actually considered Chinese food in Korea, this is one of my fave dishes and one of the first things I eat when I touch down in Korea. Nicely prepared here with a saucy sauce (it can get very dry and pasty if the sauce isn't thinned out enough). Be sure to eat it with the yellow pickled radish. If you really know your stuff, you can ask for the onions and black bean paste. - Ddukppoki - this is a spicy rice cake dish and my youngest LOVES this. We ordered this mostly for her, but to my surprise, the portion is pretty huge and the price to match. It is a shareable item, and meant as an app, so I do wish they had more reasonable portions so that if even a solo diner could get a taste of it. Plus, rice cakes are not the best as left overs, because they harden and the continue to absorb the sauce and make it more thick with the starch from the rice. The dish is great though! - Yukaejang - a spicy shredded beef stew with bean sprouts and other vegetables. On a cold day, hot day, I LOVE this soup. All the spice is sure to kill anything you got in your sinuses. Super hearty and those little ddukbaegis really hold a good amount. Looks can be deceiving. - Bulgogi - they only do this in the kitchen. They do not offer cooking at the table. This bulgogi has more veggies than what people may be used to at other Korean restaurants. Bulgogi is kind of like a nonna's tomato sauce, everyone makes it differently. The bulgogi is great here. It's my oldest's go-to meal. - Spicy chicken and pork combo - my husband ordered this and enjoyed it. They don't serve as many banchan (side dishes) as other restaurants I've been to and serve only three sides. Typical kimchi, stewed potatoes and spicy cucumber. On another visit, they had the spicy julienned radish. I also love that they carry the Korean canned drinks. I ordered the sikhye which is a sweet rice drink and the Sac Sac grape juice tha has whole green grapes at the bottom for my kids to try. On top of the food being great, they have really great service. They are very nice and accommodating. However, just know, you'll shell out some cash here. Better experience after a long hiatus from going back. Last time I remember the place was slightly run down, and my fave mackerel fish wasn't my favorite anymore. Tonight my friend and I were nearby after having had a great therapeutic massage (oh yes check out my review), I suggested to come here. The place has been updated, better flooring, updated decor and more customers on a drizzling Tuesday night. I was hungry and cold so decided to order Crunch California Gimbap ( crunch roll with cucumber, avocado, etc etc.) it was phenomenal, a 10. I ordered the ribs with clear broth and glass noodles. It came with shared veggies and a bowl of rice. It was a 5 of 5, could have been more if it was slightly seasoned (maybe a dash of black pepper and soy sauce that I could have added myself!) Service was wonderful. While I was waiting for my friend, I was asked if I needed anything; and then the occasional checking in. Service is friendly and polite. My friend stayed a few minutes beyond closing time but we weren't hastened out. We got the Asian yogurt to cleanse our palate as we were given our check. What an experience! Was craving Korean food so came by on a Thursday afternoon. Plenty of parking in an assuming office park. The shop is super cute and clean with hints of traditional korean decor and photographs while also modern with TVs playing korean music videos and some cute bar decor. I was seated quickly and they took my order almost immediately as I already knew what I wanted. Their banchans came out in a small three piece dish, and were all pleasant. The kimchi was a bit sweet for my taste but the sukju nameul (mung bean sprout) was tasty and fish cake stir fry was also well seasoned. I got the yukgaejang as I was craving a spicy soup, and the portion size was giant. Though slightly steep price point ($18), there was plenty of fillings which I thought justified the price. The servers checked on me once I was about done with my meal, but I was dining alone and didn't really have any needs. I was super happy with the yakult drink that came out with the check. It's a pretty old korean restaurant service that I remember getting in my childhood but haven't seen done in a while. Ill definitely be back for some more authentic and tasty Korean food! read more

I was in the area and you know i love seeing whats nearby. So i hopped on Yelp and saw Hansang Korean Restaurant was only 5 minutes away. So i had to go check out their food! I love all different cultures of food and Korean food always hits the spot. The directions on Maps was a little confusing, but i found it. Its in a Business Park off Northampton Blvd. I'd have never known it was back there. When i entered i was greeted right away by the friendly host. They were finishing up my order. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. There was only one couple dining in. So it was pretty quiet. Theres plenty of seating to dine in. I ordered the bulgogi lunch special which came with rice, bean sprouts, and cucumber kimchi. I also had the hansang gimbap roll which was loaded with fried crispy onions, it also had crab and shrimp and it was delicious!! The onions made it even better. I should've gotten 2.. Lol. I got cheesy corn as well. I enjoyed my whole meal, but i wasn't a fan of the cheesy corn. It tasted like canned corn with cheese. Nothing else was done to it. It was ok, but not worth $8 to me. I think the portion was filling for the lunch special and sushi. I can't wait to try more.. I wish the lunch special came with mac salad, but thats something i can get over.. I also had Sac sac which was $3 for a mini can of grape drink. It had grape pieces inside and was good!! This is a good restaurant to try. The service is good and so is the food. Tucked away in the corner bypass between VA Beach + Norfolk thoroughfare lies Hansang situated by a business strip of small businesses. This restaurant is a small but mighty choice for Korean style food. This was my second try at trying this restaurant. The first being a random night but the shortstaffed, long 1.5 wait for dinner was not an option so I opted to return later. This evening the check in and seating process was swift. The menu was easy to follow with great descriptions underneath each menu item so you're not left guessing what is on each plate. I ordered a hot tea, but know it'll simply by a hot mug with a tea bag so no frills of a hot pot. I ordered mandu fried but got steamed and besides that it was really good and plated nicely. I ordered the mandu ramyun and should have stuck with this dish itself. The ramyun came in a large metal bowl. It was filled nearly to the top and smelled great! The broth was delicious and flavorful with just the right amount of spice that wasn't overbearing. The rich had a boiled egg, thinly slice carrots, and a little green onion. It would be nice if they had mushrooms or broccoli added to the dish. The service was attentive and the waitress answered questions about the dishes with ease. I enjoyed watching music videos while I ate. When you're done they bring out a platter with mini prebiotic milkshots, they're individually sealed. Also, you'll get a tray that has kimchi, broccoli, and fish cakes. I would've loved if they had it where you could customize the options in the tray because I'm not a fan of the cakes. In the end, this was a good time and the food made up more than enough for the delay last time. Check this place out for their ramyun and japchae. Decided to celebrate APIHM on my way to Philly, so I stopped by this place before crossing the CBBT. So glad I did! My food was delicious - spicy pork bulgogi with sides and Korean corn cheese. You walk in and you get the Korean vibe with the decor and painting and the tv with Korean music videos. Love all the art work and murals displayed. We had reservations since we had a big party and they had a huge table in the back ready for us. We ended up ordering a whole bunch of food and eating family style. We got a few apps to start with like the seafood pancakes veggie pancake, rolls, spicy rice cakes, cheesey corn. For our entrees we got a couple galbi combos, bulgogi combos, pork hot pot and japchae noodles. Yea we got a ton of food!! Our table was full. It was great being able to order and try a bunch of dishes since there was a lot of us sharing. It makes it easier to try lots of food. Everything we got was delicious. We did get a couple spicy items but the spice wasn't overpowering that you couldn't enjoy the dish, it had a good amount of kick. Our servers were nice and attentive. They did come back a few times to check on us and refill our drinks. The restaurant was full. Lots of people in and out, it was my first time there and this was a very popular restaurant. Inside was super clean and well decorated, and while the restaurant normals takes a break from 3-5, the server let my group stay past 3 to finish eating which was super sweet. The food was great, pretty authentic korean if I do say so myself. The only thing that got me was that extra side dishes were $2 each (they're usually unlimited at most places) and ordering a ssam (lettuce for wrapping meat) was an extra $3 when it should be like $1 if anything. But, I understand they are a small business in the middle of Virginia Beach so I see where they are coming from. read more

Sorry, Hansang - I feel like you could potentially have been a cool restaurant, especially with what seemed like a recent remodeling, but the fact that your menu was updated without showing the changes on your site was a little disappointing. We came here for an early lunch, as they supposedly had tang soo yook - unfortunately, they did not, and the staff seemed to be confused whether they even had it to begin with. Not sure if they are now going for more fusion entrees, but we left right afterwards. Wifey has been wanting to come here for awhile. We've been here long long time ago and we had an amazing experience then so we knew the food were going to be just as good. Staff were friendly and we didn't t wait long for the food to come out. Food were delicious, better than some other Korean restaurants in the area. Not sure how I feel about ordering from the tablet. Takes away from the whole interaction with your server. Even though it was very hot outside I ordered the hot pot. Love the authentic Korean food they have here. We actually came to this location when it was a different owner, so we're glad to see that some of the same menu items were on the menu. The new owner is very friendly and took over about three years ago. I love what she did with the place. It's more modern and more open. The food was great! I especially loved the potato soup. We had been wanting to come to this for a while, but we live a bit far away. The inside is cozy and not too large, the location could be a bit better. It is right down the road from the Norfolk outlets, but technically in Virginia Beach. It is fairly dark inside, but light enough to see your food well. They have Korean music videos playing most of the time, but it wasn't too loud which was nice. We were greeting by our server, and they were friendly and answered all our questions about different dishes. We ordered Crunch California Gimbap for a starter, which was very nice and had a lot of flavor and crunch to it. My wife ordered the beef bulgogi, which she loved and would get it again for sure. It was full of flavor and very tender. I had ordered the Jja Jang Myun since I wanted to try something different. I usually like black beans. The noodles had a great texture and weren't bad, but the black bean paste was for sure overpowering. It wasn't a bad dish, but it wasn't for me. After viewing reviews on here, I thought that coming here would be a really good experience. Given that I've eaten Korean food before, this would be a piece of cake. But unfortunately, that wasn't the case. My girlfriend Sophia and I got seated with a friend of ours once we walked in. The ambiance was nice and they did have a nice sized crowd on hand. Our orders came out. I had the spicy BBQ Korean chicken dish, where I requested the spice to be medium. It was actually pretty good. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the spice was just right. The amount of veggies was a bit too much, but the dish had me full. However, Sophia's experience wasn't good. She ordered the Bulgogi dish. At other places, Bulgogi would be just with onions. The one exception that I saw where the dish was different was at A World Of Good, but my meal was very good, one of the best dishes I had a year ago there. But this one was ful of veggies.....I mean a whole of lot. And that wasn't printed on the menu when we ordered. We tried to see if she could swap it out with another dish that she was looking at beforehand, but the owner said no and that we had to pay for it. Keep in mind, Sophia didn't even take a bite which made sense to take it back and not get charged. But that wasn't the case. Even our friend was putting her veggies aside and just eating the beef portion. So we ended up taking it home and I thought that eating it for dinner was best. Well, it didn't taste that good after a few bites and it went in the trash. As much as I enjoyed my meal, making sure Sophia was taken care of trumps that. With that being said, chances of us coming back here are very slim. Believe me, this is not trashing Hansang by any means. Every restaurant cooks dishes differently and I can live with that. But if a customer is not fond of a dish that's not described well on the menu that they ordered, it's best to not charge the party for the food. And there have been many cases where we didn't like our dish and ordered another one without being charged for the original. But this situation could've ended differently. The first time we attempted to eat here we were told "you're more than welcome to eat here but it may take 3 hours or more for your food." We went somewhere else. Then on our third visit, we were told it would be an hour for our food. We knew that they had said there might be a bit of a wait last time and it wasn't so bad. They were not that busy. Several more tables came in after us. Our server(s) had completely forgotten about us and forgot to put in our order. So around the first hour a few tables had gotten their food, tables of people who had come in after us. We finally got our food 2 hours later and they apologized for forgetting us. I don't think I would go there again, especially since Bon Chon is down the street from us. While the food is very good here, the service is rough and unorganized and that's a dealbreaker for me. read more

Been here 6 years ago and all I can say is that they stepped up their game in delivering authentic Korean food. The food is in huge portions, though its in a pricier side. I loved the seafood pancake, i think that was my favorite of all. The Ddukbokki's flavorful and spicy good. Gomtang's broth is glod but I hope it's richer and the meat could've have been more tender.
