When I say, we found the perfect spot, we found the perfect spot. They were playing music, but not at that stupid loud volume that everybody seems to think they need to play music in a venue where you want to have a meal with friends or a cup of coffee and chat. It was there, but not intrusive. It was a great combination of eclectic without that mainstream pablum that you hear in every Starbucks, every elevator, every doctors office, everywhere. They had a wonderful selection of coffee and all of it was very reasonably priced. The staff was lovely; greeted me immediately and went out of their way to be kind. We found a great table and we were able to play and never felt like we were taking up too much space. Other people found their tables and everybody was very friendly. The decor was funky and just what I want from a café. They had food and pastries that I didn't get a chance to try, but my mocha with oat milk was fantastic. We live in Connecticut, but we might travel to go here, just because. Just because.

They have a program to text when your table was ready, so we went for a walk in the neighborhood while we waited. A surprisingly short time later, we received the text that our table was ready! The menu(s) had a wonderful selection of food and drinks, along with some specials. They do use a QR code for their menus, but noticed they also had paper menus upon request. Our server was friendly and attentive. The other members of staff would also check in as they passed by. My boyfriend enjoyed the PB & J Latte along with the creole shrimp Benedict. He said it was seasoned well, right level of spice, stated the eggs were poached perfectly, and really enjoyed how moist the cornbread was. I indulged with the "Tipsy Palmer" which is an Arnold Palmer with Bourbon in it. To be honest, there wasn't much of a bourbon taste to it, if any at all, but for a summer brunch drink, it was refreshing. For my entree, I chose the chicken Caesar sliders. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed as the brioche buns seemed a little on the stale/stiff side. The homemade caesar dressing was delicious, but they only coated the lettuce in it which resulted in a bit of a dry slider. I believe the sliders would benefit from a bit of the dressing at least on the bottom of the bun. I asked for (and received) a side of the dressing to bring home to dress up my remaining sliders. Lastly, and I know this is extremely minor, but the silverware was placed incorrectly (knife and fork reversed with the knife edge in the wrong direction). Again, I am WELL AWARE this is minor, but for me, sometimes the minor details are the things that stand out. Overall, a wonderful experience and will try them again at a later date.

The food was not good -- the croissant was hard and stale and tasted far from fresh. What was even worse was the service. The white male cashier on the right side had a terrible attitude from the start. He handed me only half of my meal without saying the rest of the order was still coming. When I asked about the remaining portion of my meal, he snapped at me and raised his voice, saying "the rest is coming out" in a very rude and sneering manner. I would have asked to speak with a manager, but I was pressed for time. It's really a shame that some young employees are not trained properly in customer service and basic professionalism. Between the poor quality food and the terrible service, I would never return to this place.

They have free parking in two lots, one adjacent to the restaurant and one across the street. The spots are narrow so they may be a bit tight for super large cars. The restaurant does not allow strollers. They have a prominent sign on the front of the door, which I appreciated, but it did make it harder to manage with a little one. We made a reservation. I arrived late, but they sat my friend right away while she waited and provided us with sturdy wooden high chairs. To drink, I ordered a lemonade. It turned out to be pink lemonade, which I hadn't had in a while. It was tasty, especially with a requested fresh lemon for a little extra tartness. To eat, I had the tree hugger benedict. The eggs were well prepared and the English muffin was nice and buttery. Our waitress and other patrons were friendly.

We use a Doona, so I was able to wheel him inside asleep and planned to convert it into a car seat once we reached our table. The restaurant was nearly empty, and there was plenty of room to safely walk to our table without disrupting staff or other guests. As soon as we arrived, the hostess (who I believe may have been the owner) told me the Doona needed to be folded into car seat mode at the table. That was never an issue, I was completely happy to do that. What was upsetting was how she spoke to me, and her attitude. She reprimanded me for wheeling the Doona the short distance to the table, speaking to me as if I were a child being scolded in the principal's office. I've worked in the restaurant industry since I was a young teenager, so I understand restaurant etiquette and safety. I never would have wheeled the stroller through the dining room if it wasn't safe or appropriate. Her tone and attitude were so unkind it made me feel completely unwelcome. Instead of showing a little understanding toward a mother trying to manage two young children, she chose to embarrass me over something I had every intention of correcting once I reached the table. If it hadn't been such an ordeal to get two little ones there, I would have left immediately. The food may have been fine, but hospitality is just as important, and unfortunately that was completely lacking. I won't be returning, and I hope management realizes that kindness and respect toward guests, especially parents doing their best, go a long way. This is a diner after all not a 5 star fancy dinner spot.

It was literally the only place I could find on short notice with reservation slots available, which maybe should have been a sign (and certainly a reminder to me to be much more proactive about this sort of thing in the future). This was sort of a meet in the middle for us; she's in Redding, CT, and I'm in North Jersey. Common Grounds is located at the end of a strip mall, though arguably a higher-end one. The parking lot was VERY busy and while spots were relatively easy to find, I had to settle for one further away close to the bowling alley next door. All good though in that regard. The first hint that this was going to go downhill happened almost immediately. Despite having made the reservation for 11, our designated table wasn't available for seating because the prior party was "lingering." There wasn't a time limit on the dining parties so it seemed like Common Grounds just made assumptions on when people would leave, which is probably not an exact science on the best of days, and certainly not on a day where you might have a family reunion element. We were offered a large high-top table to sit at instead, which my mother isn't comfortable with, and after a few minutes of sitting there, were instructed to take a "normal" table by the window. I will give props for the hostess reading the room in that regard and doing what she could to give us an optimal seating situation - the wait and miscalculation wasn't her fault. She was also very nice to my mother, which for sure counts for something. It took probably 15 minutes for our waitress to come by and ask for drink/food orders, which isn't great. I'd decided on the Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Pancakes from the Specials menu, only to be told by the waitress that they were no longer available. I then had to quickly pivot to the French Toast from the regular menu, but lack of availability is something that should have been mentioned when we received the menus, not while we're ordering. And it wasn't even noon - a little concerning. I don't know if it was just a bad day behind the scenes, but it took over 45 minutes to get two pretty simple brunch entrees to us, and almost as much time to get our beverages. That would at least be understandable if the place was packed and everyone was busy, but that wasn't the case - a lot of tables emptied up within 20 minutes of our arrival, and in a pretty troubling optic, most of the front-end waitstaff was literally just standing around by the coffee station not doing anything. That's bad management, and could have helped alleviate whatever was happening in the kitchen. You have five minutes to kill? Okay, stop by your tables and apologize for the delay. Help bus and turn over the recently vacated tables. Maybe refill my water glass, which was empty for most of my meal. There's just no excuse for that. And it's a shame because my Cardamon Rose Latte was excellent, and the French Toast was very good as well. French Toast isn't one of my go-to's, but when I have it I prefer it to be softer and not as cumbersome, and this fit the bill. But because the wait time and overall service was mediocre at best, I didn't even want to go near a dessert menu or consider having a second latte - that probably would have tacked on another hour. So by virtue of not being attentive and efficient, Common Grounds left money on the table. A real shame; and frankly, surprising to me given that this has to be a very notable day on the calendar for brunch places. I'd ensure everything was well-oiled and ready to go, and it's clear it just wasn't. I overheard quite a few people outside singing the praises of this place, and I saw enough to probably understand why. But we weren't the beneficiary of most of those qualities.

I give the good marks in that regard. Cleanliness. It's a nice space, and clean. I used the restroom as well. Certainly looks like they take the time out to keep the place presentable which is not something all restaurants do so it should be noted when you see it. Minuses: Noise: The architecture of the space with its high ceilings is such that it's very loud. This is not the kind of place you go for a quiet meal. It wasn't that every table was occupied when I was there but the noise level was quite high. Honestly, it depends on your preference. It's not a matter of it being bad so much as warning you in advance. Prices: The food was okay. I had an omelet. It was adequate, nothing more. The thing of it was that it was a $20 dollar omelet. In that case I expect them to bring out the hen and show me its pedigree. The food was good, not great, not bad, simply good. I can't really say anything other than that. Given that it's Katonah it may be that it caters to a clientele that doesn't have a problem with that but again, it's not a bargain. Overall, I enjoyed the meal enough but I likely wouldn't go back simple based around the price point.
