    Double chocolate gelato
    Taylor S.

I was a little nervous because of the mixed reviews, but we truly had a great experience at Misi. And thank goodness, because I've been waiting to try this restaurant for 8 years! The food we ordered was great, and the service was lovely too. We ordered the ricotta crostini, grilled broccolini, sheep's milk occhi, spinach and marscapone tortellini, and double chocolate gelato. Our favorite was by far the spinach tortellini--order it! If I had to give notes, I'd say there was actually too much ricotta on the crostini (can you be mad at a restaurant for being generous?), and too many chocolate chips in the gelato. However, I'm not complaining about either. I also would've loved some more herbs on the mushrooms. We didn't have any of the issues some other reviews have complained about. We'd gladly return!

I really enjoyed my experience dining at Misi. We got the ricotta crostini which was delicious. It's a beautiful dish and the cold creaminess of the ricotta pairs well with the crunch of the crostini. It's a thick topping of ricotta which is nice. The butter beans as an appetizer were delicious. I loved the mix of cheese with greens and the slow cooked beans. For pastas we got the spinach and marscapone tortelli and pork sugo strangozze. I loved the tortelli. The filling was creamy and flavorful. The strangozze was nice too, but a bit too salty for my liking. Our server gave great recommendations. They were quick to seat us and we never felt like we were waiting around for them.

Surprised that Misi is one of the hardest resys to get in nyc because my experience was so so disappointing. We had a reservation for 6:45pm on a Sunday but came about half an hour early and got seated right away. There were couple seats open but it was a very cold Super Bowl night so it made sense that it was fairy "empty" To my surprise, their signature whipped ricotta toast was apparently sold out for the day even though I saw them make a few plates of them right in front of me moments before (and their piping bag of ricotta was full). I was disappointed that I wasn't able to try it and surprised that their popular dish is sold out at peak dinner time. We ordered butter beans (as our second choice of antipasti) and three plates of pasta: linguine, spinach and mascapone, and braised lamb. Each dish came out one by one and it gradually got saltier and almost inedible. The worst was the linguine. The braised lamb was probably the most tolerable. Their "most popular" spinach and mascapone didn't blow my mind either, it was salty and the brown butter came across as oily and greasy. I was also found their waitstaff a bit unapproachable in general, the way they asked/answer questions.

4-5 years ago I went to Misi's sister restaurant Lilia and while I had a good meal, was not blown away. This weekend, I happened to find an open reservation for 1 person at the bar at Misi so I took it as an opportunity to try this place. I was sat at the secondary bar, not the seating in front of the open kitchen. One of the highlights for me was the really great service I had at the bar. Every server was attentive and on top of everything. Normally I hate bar seating as you can feel ignored, this was not the case here. The restaurant is loud and filled up quickly after opening at 5pm. What I had - Grilled persimmon appetizer - perfect for 1-2 people to share. Loved the smoked ricotta salata, wish they had added even more Squash filled Caramelle - loved the horseradish shreds on top, a perfect balanced dish of sweet and savory flavors Amaretti cookie gelato - Very good but I think I would try the chocolate next time I also had a glass of white wine, I forgot the name but it was on the sweet side, which I liked. I thought Misi was a solid dinner. It's been a while since I went to Lilia but I want to say that I liked Misi more. I remember everything at Lilia tasting overly salty. I did not use the restroom so I cannot comment on it. The entrance and restaurant seem to be ADA compliant.

Marinated Leeks and Grilled Baby Artichokes

What I really loved about this restaurant is that they value flavors over pretensions. Simple but mighty. From the same group of Lilia. Service was great, they do ask to get the whole order at once. We definitely had the insta-famous whipped ricotta crostini with trumpet mushrooms. Incredibly smooth and airy almost mousse-like. Also the grilled baby artichokes and the fennel salad with celery, parmigiano and walnuts. Both absolutely delicious. That said, the home-made pastas are really the highlight of the dinner. The spinach mascarpone tortelli with brown sugar butter was perfection. The pasta itself is delicate--thin, tender, and beautifully formed-- encasing a silky filling of spinach and mascarpone that is rich without being heavy. The brown sugar butter brought everything together with a nutty depth coating each piece without overpowering them. Also there was a subtle sweetness that rounds out the dish, balancing the savory filling. We also had fettuccine with buffalo butter. The pasta was beautifully made--silky with just the right bite. The buffalo butter elevates it to a richer taste creating a glossy sauce that feels indulgent. Last but not least we had the chitarra braised lamb pepperoni which was a great contrast to the first two we had. The braised lamb brought a depth that felt hearty but now overwhelming and the pepperoni in adds a kick and brightness that enhance the dish. Well balanced combo. By far the hardest decision was choosing a gelato. They had so many different options. We finally agreed on Olive oil and Cookies something... can't remember. It was the best ending of our dinner. Creamy yet light. Recommended 100% for pasta lovers or good food lovers in general. We left deeply satisfied and will definitely come back.

    Spinach and Mascarpone Filled Tortelli

Been once for brunch and once for dinner. Reserve weeks ahead so you can get a table. Interior is a lot of white tile and Edison bulbs which gives a clean, industrial look. In the daytime this place is really bright and airy and at night it becomes dim and calm. Great for small groups or dates. Good service and I have never felt rushed here. My favorite pasta is the spinach and mascarpone tortelli. The brown butter is perfection. I also liked the fettuccine with parmesan and black pepper and bucatini with nduja. The fettuccine pasta is thin and seasoned lightly so it's like a cacio e pepe "lite" that's less intense. The bucatini is al dente red sauce goodness. The ricotta crostini rotates through different vegetable pairings. The first time around it came with roasted peppers, the second time with trumpet mushrooms. This is one of their social media hype dishes but you have to get it, at least once. Mushroom plus ricotta plus chunky salt plus crispy bread makes a delicious combination. Don't let the toast sit too long or else the ricotta will slowly spill over the edges. The butter beans are another popular starter here. There's a small hit of spice with parmesan and some greens. It's good and feels like a nice way to balance out the carbs everywhere else, but you could save this for a second visit. For gelatos, I love the mint straciatella. It tastes like fresh picked mint and not the artificial saccharine mint from the grocery store pints. The double chocolate chip is also great but perhaps less memorable. Expensive but I really like some of the dishes here so I'll be back.

I was able to grab a walk-in seat at the bar on a Sunday afternoon with not much trouble. Butter beans - rich and hearty, a great winter dish. The beans are cooked with kale in a sour and savory tomato broth. There are hits of fennel and rosemary that cut through differently with each bite. I found it to be a touch too tart, but not egregiously so. Caramelle - mixed feelings. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, and the squash filling was flavorful. The sauce is quite simple to avoid covering up the pasta filling, which I kind of agree with. The sauce was just far too buttery. It looks like they top the simple emulsified butter sauce with even more brown butter. The first couple of bites were overwhelming until I learned to leave most of the sauce on the plate. The bill came to $70 after tax and tip. I was a bit let down at these prices, but maybe I should've picked a different pasta. I really enjoyed Lilia, this chef's other restaurant, so my expectations were unfortunately not quite met. I'd pick Lilia between these two in a heartbeat.

This pasta all melts in your mouth... now it could be all the butter and cheese might have something to do with it. Yummy, nonetheless. We gave up being vegan for the night!! Worth it. We went early tonight, 5 pm because it was the only reservation available without being a late dinner for 4 of us. We only had brunch this morning... so arrived hungry. I love all the shareable plates. We were able to have plenty of food yet taste 7 different items. Then we finished the evening with gelato. Perfect finish. Make your reservation. Plan ahead as necessary!! Worth it.

I visited misi on a weekend for lunch by walk. The area is a bit difficult to find a street parking spoy. If you bring a car, you might need to expect to walk up to 15 minutes. (You will find something within 15 mins range). This restaurant is pretty popular in the area. I highly recommend to reserve a table before you go. I saw a private room where larger group of people can enjoy their privacy and foods. This might be a good option for a larger group (not sure if there's a fee to use the private room. Please check with the restaurant) We had marinated leeks with anchovy parsley pistachio, mezze rigatoni, eggplant. All ingredients were fresh, fragrant and flavorful. Leek in particular was so unique that I want to learn how to make it. If you have developed your palate, this is an amazing restaurant where you can feel and taste all ingredients in their well balanced dishes. I strongly recommend to visit if you are in this area

This the second time I've gone to Misi and it was a great reminder why it is one of my favorite restaurants. I got ricotta toast and mushroom for appetizer and wow! The ricotta was so creamy and fluffy. Exceptional. I'm also not a mushroom guy but the mushrooms were so flavorful. The pastas were all exceptional. The sheep's milk was also creamy and delicious. The tortellini also so good. It took about 10-15 minutes after my reservation to be seated, which was not great, but the service was impeccable and I was offered a complimentary olive oil gelato for the wait, which I appreciated. Can't wait to come back!

The food was absolutely amazing. The ricotta toast with mushrooms was so delicious. The artichokes were also a great texture and yummy. The kabocha squash was yummy and well cooked but I have mixed feeling about it with the hot honey. The fennel salad was also surprisingly very very good. My favorite pastas were the spinach tortelli and the fettuccine. The chickpea pasta was surprisingly very very good. The caramelle and occhi were not my favorite but did taste good. The gelatos were an incredible consistency. The olive oil was very strong, but will probably be liked by olive oil lovers. The mint straciatella was super yummy. Service was very very good and we loved this restaurant celebrating a birthday. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic food and service was great. Drinks menu is small but this is one of the best martinis I've had in a while. The fennel app was interesting, but nothing to write home about. The butter beans app was unbelievably good, so creamy and tasty. The tortellini was heavenly and the fettuccini with the back pepper was a better version of caccio Pepe. Ambiance - beautiful, warm and inviting

Like many people, I saw posts about the pillowy whipped ricotta toast here and made an effort to come here to try it. Unfortunately, I didn't listen to the other reviews on here that called out the toast for being too burnt to enjoy and that was indeed my feeling as well. So while it looks beautiful, the texture is not really that great. I have had better ricotta toast than the one they do here :/ Anywho, aside from that blunder, the other dishes that they do here are pretty good, from the pastas to the veggies. Probably the favorite thing my boyfriend and I enjoyed from here was their milk flavored gelato. I didn't love Misi so much that I will make an effort to come back myself, but I would be willing to eat here again if I was dragged here by my friends or something.

I have a reservation for Misi for kitchen counter seating and one for Lilia normal dining seating. It's a birthday dinner for a family member. Which restaurant would you recommend?

Do they have high chairs? Would it be appropriate to take my 1.5yo there for lunch?

I've seen them with one. Not the best place for a child but lunch shouldn't be as hectic as dinner.

Do you need a reservation... can you show up on a fri night same day if the system doesn't let you make a reservation and the phones not answering?

    You definitely need a reservation

Does their menu have gluten free options?

there are non pasta items so yeah definitely worth checking out

Are there any vegan options? Also not cooked in butter?

We went with another couple, one of whom is vegan and selected the restaurant. There were many vegan options. I don't remember about butter but we ate very well.

Anybody know what the corkage fee is?

    They have wine

    Is there a corkage fee?

I don't recall seeing a byob option on the menu.

Is it possible to get a table for 2 at dinner as a walk in on a sat or sun if i go right at opening or late?

Yes, I would get there like 10-15 min before opening, maybe even earlier if it's good weather.

Is the lunch menu different from the dinner menu?

    Nope - it's the same.

Would a 1 and 2yo be fine to bring for a 5:30 or 6pm dinner?

Yah probably earlier on would be best. Definitely make a reservation and might be good to give a heads up to the restaurant but you should be fine! :)

Since they don't answer the phone - I get it - I think the answer is obvious, but I want to confirm they DO NOT do take out? Thanks Alley

This was high up on my search, and with reviews like what they have, we decided to give them a shot. Its very easy to get to with a decent amount of street parking. Seems a bit out of place next to a deli on a residential block. You can kind of miss it if youre not paying attention. We were a party of 6 and had a 5 PM reservation. You have to pass through this dark curtain and go to the middle of the bar where the host will greet you and bring you to your seats. We were seated promptly with no wait. The restaurant is VERY small. So much so that at our table, all I had to do was reach my hand out and I would have been touching the kitchen counter. It does get a little crammed/crowded, but not in an annoying or unbearable kind of way. The vibe is actually really cozy and rustic. Very dim lighting so either whip out the flashlight on your phone or hold up one of the real candles they have on the table to read the menu. The food menu is straightforward and simple. They have an extensive wine list. I love how on the food menu, next to each dish, they tell you the region of Italy that dish gets its roots from. They have lovely dinnerware here. They brought out a foccacia bread for the table with a tomato dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious foccacia. The sauce was a tad too salty for me. I started off with the mocktail Luisa. It was passion fruit, lemon, agave, ginger beer, and mint. It was $10 and very fresh and mouthwatering! For my appetizer I had the Calamari alla griglia. Grilled calamari with guacamole and carasau bread. I've never had grilled calamari before. Only either marinara or fried. I also thought pairing it with guacamole was an interesting twist. I was so pleasantly surprised by this dish. The calamari were perfectly fork tender grilled. The guacamole went well with it. The carasau bread was more like a tortilla chip. They give you a decent amount for $24.95. That app slid down my throat effortlessly! For my entree I had the Maccheroncini alla Norma. Maccheroni with eggplant in tomato sauce with ricotta cheese. The pasta was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce reminded me so much of my Calabrian grandmother's. The ricotta made it rich and creamy. Filling as well. So much so that, even though it wasn't a huge portion, I had to take home half of it because I was verging on being stuffed! My mother had the Cotoletta alla milanese. Keep in mind that if you get this chicken cutlet dish that it serves about four people, even though its for 1! HUGE portion. About 4 enormous cutlets that gave my mom 3 days of leftovers! All of the desserts were $12.95. A nice selection to choose from, but I had the classic Tiramisu. They make it here tableside. He made it with such care. Loved watching him put it all together. Let me tell you, that was the BEST Tiramisu that I've EVER had! Wow, just amazing. Very balanced, quality ingredients. The marscapone was so decadent, creamy and fresh. I could have easily taken down 2 of them! I tried some of my mother's chocolate cake. Delicious and decadent. Service throughout our dinner was above and beyond. Attentive, kind, concise and our waiter was such a cutie! Smooth sailing throughout the entire meal. We barely had to wait for anything. Amazing restaurant and staff. Prices are just fine and the quality goes way beyond. Can't wait to come back. Highly impressed and recommend!

From the start, the food was delicious starting with the house bread which was warm and soft but still felt light. For dinner, I ordered the special for the night which was cacio pepe ravioli, while my husband got the tagliatelle verdi con ragu. Both of our pasta dishes felt extremely fresh. The ravioli was unlike anything Ive had before, with flavorful cacio pepe filling and a butter sauce with pancetta complementing the flavor. The tagliatelle was also delicious in a more ragu centric way, still offering a good balance of flavor. Both dishes were pretty filling and so neither of us could finish it. We ended the night with cannolis, which was a pleasant surprise to find 3 came in 1 order. One side is pistachio while the other had a coco dusting. These were again delicious but pretty filling and sweet so we could only eat one. The staff here was also very friendly and service was quick with food coming out much faster than I expected. Overall I would come back and try even more on their menu.

Note: reservations are not required but definitely suggested!! This place was packed. Every table sat, but a few chairs at the bar. I give this place 5 stars, EVERYTHING was lovely! The dim lights, (I love a dark and moody restaurant) noise level, talk-able but good music in the background, food, drinks, service.... all of it TOP NOTCH. Let's get into the deets.... I ordered the Portia cocktail... if you like Mezcal, you should definitely try this one. Smoky and a little sweet, it was a delicious drink We order Pinsa Bianca for appetizers, the bread, roasted peppers and whipped ricotta all made for a light but delish start. We then dove into the rib-eye (for 2) DELICIOUS ! One of the best steaks outside of a steakhouse I have had. The marbling gave it great flavor, salted well and the perfect char on the outside, it was accompanied by French fries and broccolini. All a great addition; The broccolini was surprisingly not too bitter which was nice. To round it off we ordered their version of a Lemon tart! It was the perfect level of sweet and tart! Yummmo Overall a great place for dinner, run don't walk, you won't be disappointed! You'll thank me later

We got the lobster with white asparagus with eggs to share. Yum. It really did not need the eggs. The hollondaise was delicious. We ordered. Oxtail rags, carbonara, and the fish pasta -Sardinian nod. All were excellent. The carbonara could have used a bit of pepper and a bit more pecorino. Guanciale? Or bacon? Also had the scallops which we loved. I ordered a Bellini but it was not a Bellini. No peach. Just a cherry - odd. The Lemon scone was the best we have had - served with cream and lemon curd. Amazing The Carmel custard dessert - was rich but a bit one note. It did come with a crunchy buttery cookie. The ice creams were homemade. The restaurants is lovely. Food wonderful. Service friendly and quick. But it is so loud you are literally yelling at your companions. Maybe they could turn down the music ? Regardless. We love this place!

We had the best night at Michael's!…read more I knew Michaels was an iconic restaurant deep in Brooklyn. I've seen their sauce sold in stores before, and we finally made the trip out for dinner. We went around Christmas and it was decorated inside. The restaurant was packed. Every single table was full. Everyone was having the best time. Even the bar was totally full of people ordering drinks before they were seated. The food is classic, New York Italian. Everything is a very well done version. The veal Parm was one of the best I've ever had. The caramel cake at the end was truly beyond. I can't recommend this experience enough. We ate for three hours had amazing cocktails, great bottles of wine and a really delicious meal. Looking around, you could tell the diners were locals enjoying a beloved neighborhood restaurant. It's such a special restaurant that serves real New Yorkers.

The interior looks like a classic Italian restaurant and service is very formal. It was quite busy for a weekday night. There's valet parking so you don't have to stress about finding street parking nearby. We ordered fried calamari, baked clams, baked vodka penne, and the Fisherman's Platter. We were served bread and some antipasto to start. The calamari was a classic and I loved the sauce -- it had a good spicy kick to it. The baked clams were okay. The Fisherman's Platter is a must and good value with its generous portion of seafood. It can definitely be shared amongst two people. The baked vodka penne was also good but portion was on the smaller side. I would say Michael's is a must try at least once.

Service was attentive and friendly, and I did not feel rushed at any point. I wasn't too hungry so I shared their popular focaccia bread with green butter and sheep's milk agnolotti. Focaccia 5/5: best focaccia I ever had, it came hot and fresh out of the oven. Crispy on the outside but so soft inside, topped with a delicious parm. The green herb butter was so smooth. I loved this dish and would come back just for it Sheep's milk 4/5: they're like ravioli stuffed with smooth, melt in your mouth cheese... the sauce was light and sweet from the honey. It was so unique and delicious (technically a 5/5 but I personally am not a fan of sweet pasta and would likely try something else next time) I hope to come back another time for that bread and to try one of their other pastas

The service was great, and our server gave us great recommendations. Inside has lots of seating and it is moody, more of a date-night vibe. We ordered three pastas and two appetizers. All were overall great! They are known for their focaccia, and it was good! Definitely one of the focaccia I have had, most end up being too oily but this was perfect. We also got the mussels, and they were good as well, the butter sauce it is dosed in is not too heavy and pairs well with the bread. The Mafaldini was the biggest portion size, and it was also good, but we preferred the other pastas more. The best pasta was definitely the agnolotti!! Though the portion size was smaller, every bite was so delicious. Overall we had a great time here!

Cuisine: 7 Service: 8…read moreDecor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 7 I wonder how many 100 year old restaurants are still left in NYC. It can't be easy to stay true to who you are in this ever changing world. With today's social media heavy and influencer dominated marketing, this restaurant sits on a quiet street in Brooklyn just going about its business. Known as an Italian red sauce shop that served all walks of life, including possibly the mafia, this place has seen it all. If only the walls can talk, I could imagine all the stories it holds. Our friendly waiter has been there for 20+ years and shared some of his experiences and memories. It was a nice bonus to our meal for four. For appetizers, we had some Clams Oreganata (8/10), Fried Calamari (8/10), and Roasted Peppers w/ Anchovies (8/10). I would say that these three starters were the highlights of the meal. The entrees were not bad, just not as outstanding as their appetizer counterparts. My favorite of the bunch was the Eggplant Parmigiana (8/10), which was delicious and well made. The other three items, Pork Chop alla Bamonte's (6/10), Ravioli w/ Meat Sauce (7/10), and Rigatoni w/ Sausage & Broccoli Rabe (7/10), were all decent, but nothing special. By the end of the meal, four of us all agreed that it was a fun experience. With all the great options for Italian cuisine in NYC, it's not somewhere that stands out enough for regular visits. However, I would stop by if I was in the neighborhood.

Rating: 3.5/5 I…read morediscovered this restaurant on Instagram as one of the top Italian restaurants in NYC, so I decided to try it. It appeared to be family-owned in Williamsburg and consistently drew a large crowd throughout the day and night. Upon entering, I noticed the restaurant was keen to maximize seating, with diners placed very close to one another. The restaurant appeared to have a very old-school vibe; maybe that was the theme they were going for? The food ordered was: 1. Calamari - They weren't overly fried or coated with breading. Tender, and not rough. Flavorful enough; no sauce was needed (although it was included). A good appetizer. 2. Rigatoni with vodka sauce - Maybe it's my taste buds, but I also thought the sauce lacked seasoning and flavor overall. The pasta was cooked well (al dente), but the lack of flavor from the sauce ruined the dish. I was really excited about this dish! 3. Cavatelli with Bolognese Sauce - I've had bolognese sauce before, & this dish was just weird. It felt like they just did it within 5 minutes of cooking time, & it was something you could've just made at home yourself with a jar of Prego sauce. It also lacked seasoning. 4. Chicken Parmigiana - I'm a huge chicken parmigiana fan, and I feel like it's always a must if you eat at any Italian restaurant. This dish was well seasoned, not overly fried, not heavily covered with cheese, and smothered in a good amount of sauce. The chicken wasn't dry either; it was tender. Weird part was it was served with a side of string beans & potatoes, not pasta. This was one of the best dishes of the night though. 5. Chicken Marsala - Just like the chicken parmigiana, the chicken was tender & wasn't dry. It's easy to overcook chicken becoming dry, but the two chicken dishes weren't. Very flavorful & a good amount of mushrooms added for garnish as well. Same with the chicken parm, string beans & potato's as a side and not pasta. 6. Linguine with White Clam Sauce - I'm allergic to shellfish, so I did not try this dish, but my table said it was tasty. Overall, I thought the food wasn't as good as I thought. I felt like because this restaurant was hyped up on social media & they know it'll always attract business because of it, the pricing to food portion ratio did not correlate. It's a little on the pricey side for the amount of food you'd get, but maybe it's because of the rent since it is Williamsburg (but they've been around since the 1900s though), the pricing of ingredients, or the quality of the ingredients (import ingredients?). The menu said the pasta was homemade. Another thing was, just like another reviewer mentioned, I felt my table was rushed out the door. We weren't even finished eating and we could feel they were eyeing the table, probably becausd I was with a large party. We weren't even sitting for too long either. The waiter who served my table, whose name I didn't catch, was friendly and polite though. Anyways, this is my take on this restaurant. Maybe this is how old school Italian restaurants are supposed to be & in terms of food too? Maybe you'll perhaps have a better experience than I did. Tip: Reservation recommended for dining in
