Their beers are seriously good, from great fresh beers like IPAs to some of the best barrel aged stouts like their Dungeon Master series. But let's talk about the vibe of the place as a whole. Have you heard of HP Lovecraft? The Old Ones? Or D&D? This place embraces that shit and so much more. If you're a nerd like me, if you like beer like me, and if you love the weird lie me, this lace is for us. Let me know if you're coming and I'll buy you a beer if I'm there too. Miskatonic. It was the name that a bartender had provided me information about, and it has a good story to it. Miskatonic is a good name for this brewery, it fits, somewhat. That's only part of the whole however. Beer and service is to not be forgotten and with the beer being a thing that held it's own, let's look at the service. I've always had a nice time at the limited seating bar but I often felt the service was very focused on the regulars, it seemed too clickish. We don't need to have a deep conversation but checking in with your patrons and paying attention was recently missed. I'll miss a lot of Miskatonic, but I won't miss the lackluster service from some of the bartenders. A possible comeback perhaps with a better customer experience could make a big difference. read more

Oh man - this place is AWESOME. Miskatonic always has the best events, and a huge variety of them - everything from live music, comedy, artisan markets, yoga, plant workshops. The bartenders who is usually there over the weekends is awesome and just the absolute nicest guy. While they don't have a ton of food unless there's a food truck on site, their craft kitchen in Naperville is another great place to go for dinner and sometimes has a pop up at the brewery in Darien. An extra bonus: this brewery is dog friendly! read more

Finding this local brewery can be pretty hard to find because it's not obviously it's a brewery. It certainly doesn't look like it would anything fun judging by the outside of the building but you can't judge a brewery by its outside, oh by the way, you can. Miskatonic is the best reason to come to Darien and drink up. Has quite a few beers on tap and a good variety of different stuff to choose from. There's also some food pop ups and bar snacks. Getting here was kind of fun but it was annoying. It's hard to find this brewery especially in the dark. There's one small ass sign for it. Know the Dry Dock Inn is almost across the street and you'll be close. This is on the end of a long warehouse. Once inside we were able to get a table, but found out drinks and food are ordered at the bar. The beer I got was the Vox. It's $7 for a pint. This is a pilsner that's real smooth. She got the Midnight Rider, a sour ale. The other beer we got was the West Coast Wizard, an IPA. All were good. They have food pop ups. Last time it was some Indian street food. Unfortunately every item had chicken in or on it so we couldn't get that. At the bar they do have snacks, including Gnarly Knots. These are locally made pretzels. It's about $8 for a big ass bag. They also often have live music. Getting here is the hardest part and leaving also is. It also has a tight parking lot. There's a limited amount of spaces. read more

We stopped by this brewery early evening. They have a cool interior and it was really chill and low-key inside. There wasn't many people there early evening, so I'm not sure how crowded or loud it gets. I normally can't drink that much beer, so I love being able to get smaller pours and try out more beers. I'd like to find out if it's family friendly during the day, since it would be nice to know that I can swing by with our toddler. We stopped by Miskatonic this summer after a hike. They had many table outside so that everyone could be covid safe. They were also dog friendly. The do have a slightly nicer outdoor space just around the end of their building that is accessible from inside their taproom as well. The staff were super friendly and the beers were good. This is a great Lovecraft inspired brewery tucked off of I-55. There's ample parking which is always a plus. The beer list is a good size and every beer I've while visiting has been delicious. Their Oktoberfest beer is my season favorite and I'm counting the days until it's released next year. The space isn't overly large but I've never had issues with finding seats. A nice cold ipa after a hot hike hits the spot. Located in a tucked away industrial/residential area, the covid outdoor space setup is well done. Two improvement suggestions regarding the outdoor space 1) flip the menus taped on the tables so the menus face the building, will be much easier to read 2) Not sure what can be done regarding, but the outdoor space proximity to the dumpsters in the summer heat is a bit much. I also noticed there was a compost dumpster which is cool but probably not helping matters much. Everyone was respecting social distancing guidelines and it was dog friendly to boot, win/win! Lot's of good quality beers to choose from, helpful skeleton crew working in the dark inside on a Sunday. I think somewhere on Yelp or Google, it mentioned a "taproom with a view," so when we were out west of Chicago, we decided to stop by to enjoy said taproom with a view...of a highway? View aside, they had some tables set-up outside to enjoy the nice weather. We got a flight and most of the beers were meh, but that Blood Orange Storm Shake was worth the trip out. Absolutely delicious. I've had the Storm Shake before and that's been by far, my favorite from Miskatonic aside from this blood orange version. We were hoping that there would be some Hop Butcher on tap since Hop Butcher doesn't have a taproom yet, but brew in Miskatonic's space. Unfortunately, there was none, which was a huge bummer. Visited for the first time last week and had a great time! First, I loved the tap room. It's like I decorated it myself . The brews were genuinely amazing, the service was great, and they had cool swag. I had their "Spire" hazy DIPA, Rum BA ESB, and their Dopplebock during my visit, and all three were great . Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from the Rum BA ESB, but it was so good it may be my beer of 2022 so far! It was super fruity, but also malty with balanced booziness, caramel, and wood flavors. Of course I also took some to-go beers too and am looking forward to trying them soon! read more

While on a work trip to Chicago, I was looking for some great breweries to try. Miskatonic came highly recommended from the bartender at Alter Brewery so I grabbed an Uber and headed out. The Uber Driver had a little trouble finding the place at night but I was able to spot the sign and direct him. Firstly, what an awesome name for a Brewery! The H.P. Lovecraft theme is perfect and while I was initially drawn by this, I was equally glad to hear it recommended. I can safely say that it's not just a clever name because the beer certainly backs it up! I happily tried everything they had on tap and the Epilogue and Chapter 7 were huge standouts to me. I'm a big fan of IPAs so I was glad to see the had more than one. The bartender was extremely friendly and talked openly to me about the operation and brewery itself giving me all the history. We were even able to chat about some breweries local to me back in the NE Ohio and Pittsburgh areas. I liked the logo so much I left with a Pint Glass and Hoodie. The atmosphere here is great. The decor is very fitting and if you are a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, you will find a lot of cool things to catch your eye. Not to mention I was pleasantly surprised to see the artwork of one of my favorite Comic Convention Artist, CJ Draden on there walls. I visited Miskatonic Brewing on 7/30 in the late afternoon. I visit craft breweries as a hobby. As of this writing, I think this may have been 175. Like most craft breweries, Miskatonic is located in an industrial park. The signage upon arrival was good, including to find the parking & identify the door to the taproom. They also had their logo featured prominently at the parking area. There was outside seating via picnic table right outside the taproom, and adequate seating inside. It was a nice day so many patrons were outside. The taproom was spacious, clean and with some funky Lovecraft decor & mural. They had nice overhead fans that provided great circulation and made it comfortable inside. I sat at the bar & was greeted warmly by a young male server who was well informed about the selections. He helped me pick my last of 4 in my flight and served it quickly and efficiently. I was given two free brewery stickers when I asked for one & informed of the Wi-Fi password which was printed on the well prepared beer menu. Whoever set up the taproom does very well in serving patrons, and in general organization. Well done. Wi-Fi also worked well. I liked my selections, most notably the maibock which had a faint caramel taste on the palate. Overall, this is a well organized and comfortable brewery. I would return if nearby and recommend it to others. Btw, I had to look up the name and now understand the Lovecraft references in the decor. read more

First, I REALLY like their logo. The building is large and very warehouse-like. I like the industrial look, but I didn't find it welcoming. We had a large group, so we sat in the back room and rearranged a couple tables(and of course, put them back!). It was a good space for a group. I'm far from a beer expert here, but I enjoyed the Ingenue. I also liked Catchpenny. It sounded like the rest of the group liked their choices as well and they are much more knowledgeable than I. This little hole in the wall is a great place to sit back and have a beer or two. They have a nice selection of craft beers brewed right there. Not a huge selection but just enough to have variety. The location offers a louder more music focused area and also a quieter space for people to talk, play games, or even read a book. An assortment of games and books are present here. They do allow food to be brought in or delivered as they don't offer much except for basic snacks like pretzels. I recommend you try the Hexecutioner and their peach/strawberry options. The peach beer tastes like bacon! Overall it was a nice place to have a drink without too much commotion. read more

I'll try describing the beers here, but you may go mad by the time you finish my review. You have been warned! I tried six beers and they were all quite good. Catchpenny - a light bodied session beer spiced up with a bit o' rye. Probably my favorite. Oddfellow - medium bodied Scotch Ale - malty easy drinking Ingenue, and the Chardonnay barrel Ingenue - a Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale. Their special Chard barrel version added crisp Chard notes to the basic version. Both were quite good. Wickerman - Maibock. Not too hoppy, and full of caramel. Great beer. Zingara - a very crisp, refreshing pilsner. Not quite Longfin Lager, but quite good regardless. Miskatonic goes for the hidden beer warehouse look - blink your eyes and you'll miss it. There isn't much to see in their tasting room, but they may provide tours - as of this writing their website did not mention a schedule, but another reviewer attended one on a Sunday afternoon. In any event, Miskatonic is worth a trip from the city to get a growler, with the Lady Octopus logo. read more

I really liked the vibe at Miskatonic yesterday. The beers are really well balanced. I'm not a porter fan but their Prodigal Son was very good. I enjoyed their IPAs. The flight that I ordered did not come on a usual flight rack which I found a tiny bit odd. Also, the server did not point out the styles in my flight. Nevertheless I figured it out and all the beers were spot on. I took a mental note of the very nice room with plenty of take out seating and a dart board that is behind a glass door. One could bring their family in here and enjoy a pizza without disturbing the patrons at the bar. I will definitely be back and possibly purchase their cool insulated growler that they offer. Really loved this brewery after stopping by on a whim. They are much lesser know than the other craft breweries in Chicago but way underrated. I had heard about them from reddit and was in the area on a Saturday afternoon. All of the beer we tried was good but the Strawberry Milkshake IPA was out of this world. Each beer really hit the notes they advertised in the beer name. Their brews were smooth and the bartender was very knowledgeable. I'm embarrassed to say that I had never heard of Miskatonic until a couple of weeks ago. But I am so glad I gave them a shot and look forward to returning. We arrived and took a seat at the bar and were greeted by the bartender, although I cannot remember his name. He extremely friendly and fun to talk to, and he helped educate us on Miskatonic's beer and suggested a few different styles since we were newbies. I had their "Catchpenny" which is their Session Rye. It was different, but I enjoyed it. I can't remember what my husband ordered but I know it was definitely on the dark side (as that's his style). Miskatonic isn't terribly difficult to find. My husband grew up around the area so we had no issues finding the place. This brewery is on the larger side, with plenty of seating at the bar and there's numerous tables as well. As others have said no cash, so keep your credit/debit card handy. read more
