ceviche
Samantha H.

I've only been here once but I thought it was quite good. I started with a spicy margarita that had muddled jalapeno and a tahini rim. Their salsa is made in house and it was good but nothing outstanding. I also tried the octopus and shrimp ceviche, which was very good and fresh. For balance, I would like a bit less avocado and a bit more spice but very good overall. However, the size was very large for a ceviche! But I will write more details once I return.

Super cute spot very insta worthy. Came here for lunch with my girlfriends. They have great specials on food and drinks. Service was amazing. The bartender was very nice and prompt. This is definitely on the list of places for me and my girlfriends to go to for lunch. 10/10 Come here.

Freaky fast! Our meal came out 5 mins after ordering! Me and my friend split the 3 steak tacos and ordered an extra side of rice and beans. Solid no frills Mexican food. Definitely recommend. Our waitress Zulia was very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience!

My husband and I live to frequent this area for many reasons hit this was the first time we have seen this place. What a hidden gem . Not only were the staff so amazingly friendly and the atmosphere appealing, but the food was some of the best Mexican food I have had in this local area. I got the Lemonchello margarita, and a cactus beer to drink which was from a local brewery called buckle down (if you like craft beer and haven't been there you need to check them out, their beers are amazing) . For an appetizer we chose the shrimp empanadas which were perfectly split between two people. If your not a fan of spicy things, stay away from The green sauce. For the main dish I chose the Enchiladas. This dish was so filling. Overall wonderful experience and I highly recommend if your in the area

I wanted to try a new place and I found Bar Poca Madre on yelp. I highly suggest making reservations because this place was SO busy when I came in for a Saturday evening reservation. We were seated right away by the friendly hostess. The vibe of the place is fun, busy, and loud. The seats/tables are limited and a little close to each other. Our server came to us right away with the chips & salsa, plus glasses of water. For this first visit, I tried: STEAK FAJITAS - delicious, plenty of meat and veggies BISTEC LA MEXICANA - outstanding. the sauce was very good. The flour tortilla, beans and rice that came with the fajitas were also satisfying. The SKINNY MARGARITA and bubbly wine were fantastic. Overall, I had a good experience here at Bar Poca Madre. The place is clean, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was great. I will definitely come back to try their other dishes, since their menu has a lot of dishes that are not commonly seen in other Mexican restaurants. 'Til next time!

Brunch at Bar Poca Madre in Burr Ridge had great drinks, crispy fried ice cream & solid breakfast picks! Tacos were mid, but the vibe, cocktails & dessert made it worth the visit. The server was amazing and it was nice being able to eat outside during brunch hours. #BrunchInChicago

Service was very slow. There were at least 4 servers on the floor and only about 5 tables seated in the restaurant. Really inefficient service. There was a mistake on my bill. The chicken was shredded and very charred. It was not tasty and not a good taco in general. The guacamole was delicious however! All the cocktails have syrups and they are premixed. My server was apologetic so at least, she did care.

Was excited to try out a new Mexican place in Burt Ridge, but thought the services was slow. My wife had to get up and ask where our drinks were and also get to our bill. Food was yummy, but think we are going to stick to the locations further south that is better and cheaper. Location and setting isn't bad and hope to things get ironed out for the better.

Wanted to try the place for a while and I'm really glad I finally was able to try it! I love the vibe. Be looking it is so upscale and modern! With a mix of dark interior and neon lights, I love it! We received complementary chips and salsa once we were seated. I ordered the margarita flight which was pretty tasty. And I also ordered the birria taco meal. Now this was one delicious meal! It was so flavorful and there were not skimpy with the meat. Staff were great and accommodating as well which I was pleased about. I'll seconds be back to try other things on the menu.

The closest place to the hotel is INSIDE the hotel and that's Sip & Savor. Hotel food gets a bad rep, but I was ASSURED that the food here was good. So, I was given some recommendations and walked downstairs to experience what this place has to offer... Atmosphere/Appearance: It's a hotel bar. Lol. There's a huge bar rail that wraps around the actual bar so you can sit on 3 different sides. Plenty of seating. Directly behind the seats are tables where you can relax with a group of friends or your family. It was fairly quiet in there, but I can see it getting pretty loud if there's a big work group in here or something. Service: Kelly took excellent care of me. She was the only one working so she had her hands full, but she managed to check on everyone, take care of everyone and even have conversations with several folks. She was super friendly and most importantly, honest about the things on the menu when I asked her. Food: I started off with the Grilled Shrimp Tacos. They come in an order of 3 with a grilled lime and verde salsa on the side. These were honestly fantastic. The balance of cilantro-lime crema with crunchy cabbage and the subtle shrimp flavor worked together so well. For my entrée I opted for what was recommended to me, the BBQ Bacon Jack Burger. It's described as having Monterey jack cheese, caramelized onions, bacon and BBQ sauce. Lettuce, tomato and a pickle spear are served on the side. This burger was actually very, very delicious, but I was asked how I wanted it cooked. I said medium. The burger came out well-done. So that told me one of 2 things. Either someone is goofing off in the kitchen back there or someone is inexperienced. When I told Kelly about the blunder I heard someone else say, "that's the 3rd time that's happened tonight". So... that should be fixed. Quickly. Kelly offered to have it recooked, but I hate wasting food and I wanted to be on my way. So I enjoyed my overcooked dry burger as best that I could and moved on. Value: My tacos were $12.50 and my burger was $14.00. Not bad pricing at all for hotel food. Usually it can be hiked up a bit, just like mall food or airport food, but not here, great value. In conclusion, I would like to give this place a 3.6, but because I'm positive and generous, it rounds up to 4. If I do return to this place and my burger is overcooked, then I'll send it back because I do want to get what I want if I'm a paying customer.

The staff is friendly and works hard but they need some help. Bartender/Server has to spend time running Room Service orders to the rooms. The drinks are meh, The cocktail menu lists ingredients they do not have. I ordered a second Margarita and had it made with a mix and then dumped into the first glass I had already used. The pasta I had was bland and mushy with not much flavor. The steak dinner had a laughing few pieces of vegetables. Overall its a hotel bar / restaurant so expect prices to be inflated, however its a pretty hard crash. I would say it needs more work and for sure they need more staff.

The atmosphere was very "we're better than you," which is ambitious considering half the room looked genetically connected to famine survivors and dock workers. The confidence level in that building deserves scientific study. I walked in expecting casual dining and somehow ended up in what felt like an audition for "Medieval Lords of the Suburbs." The staff acted like they were protecting ancient bloodlines instead of refilling ranch dressing. At one point I honestly wanted to ask: "Sir, are you judging me... while wearing a polo shirt with barbecue sauce on it?" The energy was aggressively holier-than-thou for a place where the main cultural contribution is fried appetizers and vodka seltzer. To be fair, the food was fine. But the side of racial superiority was a little harassing for my ego. If you're looking for a place to drink with historic levels of racism and naturally redheaded bartenders, this is the place for you!

Once we got seated it took 20 mins to even get water. The waitress, didnt give AF about us she was too worried about a table of 10 trying to get tips. She would pass our table and not even look at us Eventually I had to yell "HEY!" to get her attention. The food was terrible. I had the lamb and asked for it rare, it was well done and like shoe leather. The broccoli was basically steamed with no flavor at all. The good news was our dog got to eat 90% of it because it was pretty inedible for human consumption. My wife said hers was basically a minor upgrade from Olive Garden. In the end the best thing was the bread. It was actually very good bread but paying $160.00 for bread was a teeny bit high. I get it, it was a busy night but in those instances if you overbook you step up the service or at least try to give AF about your clientele' by having the head person go table to table and make sure people are getting what they should. Clearly they did NOT Give AF, They were only there to pimp out money for themselves. Totally disappointed.

This is an updated review, and unfortunately I'm writing this with a great deal of disappointment…read morebecause my previous experiences at La Cabanita had always been enjoyable. The food is normally very good and we've had many great visits over the years. This time, however, things were different. The experience itself wasn't up to the standards I've come to expect, but what really left me stunned happened afterward. Like many people, I was reconciling my monthly expense report and happened to compare my receipt to what was actually charged to my card. My signed receipt, including tip, clearly showed $69.99. However, when I checked my statement, I was charged $72.78. Now, we're not talking about some life-changing amount of money. It's only a few dollars. But that's almost what makes it worse. It wasn't some outrageous charge that immediately jumps out at you. It felt... sneaky. Maybe there's an explanation, and I sincerely hope there is, because it appears that Jose added a little something extra for himself after the fact. I honestly don't even know what to do. The amount isn't going to bankrupt me, but that's not really the point. When you trust a restaurant with your card, you expect the amount you signed for and the amount you're charged to be exactly the same. That's a pretty basic expectation. What makes this especially disappointing is that La Cabina Villa has always been one of my go-to places. I've recommended it to family and friends and have had many enjoyable meals there. A bad night in the kitchen can happen. Service issues can happen. But losing trust is much harder to recover from. At this point, I'm less angry than I am genuinely disappointed and confused. I never thought I'd find myself double-checking charges from a place I've enjoyed for years. Hopefully management can investigate this situation and provide some answers, because right now this experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth.
