Looking for a great authentic Hispanic restaurant nestled in the south of Chicago just off of i55 in burr ridge look no further. Drinks are good. Food is good and the salsa has the homemade feeling. Service is attentive. After multiple visits, I am here to share and no longer keep this spot to myself, haha. Drinks are pricey but meet the expectations to match the price. Food is fairly priced with today's economy. Although, the only dish I didn't really like was the empanadas. Everything else was good. Carne a la tampiqueña was good, meat was tender and cooked just right. Their mole sauce was good as well(not on the sweet side at all), which is perfect for me. Enchiladas de pollo con mole were good, the chicken was juicy. Steak tacos are good. The chicken with tostadas were another hit, a tomato sauce base not like a tinga but still good. The mezcalito drink was great. Also, the Paloma madre was good. I did see fortaleza on the bar wall!!! Over all a great place to stop by when you're at or in the burr ridge area. While the shrimp was tasty, would have been nice if it was peeled. The steak was just OK. Came for lunch, first time in this area. The area and shops looks nice but being a hot day, no one was out and the restaurant was nearly empty at 12:30. Bartender doubled as our waiter, who by the way was super friendly. We had the steak fajitas which was delicious. Included some zucchini and squash along with onions and peppers. My husband and I live to frequent this area for many reasons hit this was the first time we have seen this place. What a hidden gem . Not only were the staff so amazingly friendly and the atmosphere appealing, but the food was some of the best Mexican food I have had in this local area. I got the Lemonchello margarita, and a cactus beer to drink which was from a local brewery called buckle down (if you like craft beer and haven't been there you need to check them out, their beers are amazing) . For an appetizer we chose the shrimp empanadas which were perfectly split between two people. If your not a fan of spicy things, stay away from The green sauce. Was fortunate enough to get a reservation on Friday night. It was a bit chilly to sit outside, but there were others who were. They have a great patio - even have heaters out there. It's definitely a patio I would try in warmer weather. Our service was great and she was attentive - but not intrusive. We started with Spicy Margaritas and Paloma Madres. Nicely made and would recommend. I enjoyed the warm chips, but my husband wished the salsa was spicier. The menu is extensive - and everyone can find something to order. We each were in the mood for soup - so I got the Tortilla and my hsuband got the Pozole Verde. We would get both again - and would recommend it. Not overly spicy, but left your mouth a little warm. Great flavor. For entrees - I got the Octopus and he got the Cochinita Pibil. You must like Octopus to get my dish. Sounds simple enough - but every place cooks octopus differently and this was a thick cut - not thinly sliced like you might get at some restaurants. I enjoyed it greatly and would recommend it. My husband enjoyed his dish - but like the salsa - wished there was a spicy sauce with it. Lastly - b/c it's pumpkin season - my husband ordered the Pumpkin Tart dessert. We were seated right away by the friendly hostess. The vibe of the place is fun, busy, and loud. The seats/tables are limited and a little close to each other. Our server came to us right away with the chips & salsa, plus glasses of water. For this first visit, I tried: STEAK FAJITAS - delicious, plenty of meat and veggies BISTEC LA MEXICANA - outstanding. the sauce was very good. The flour tortilla, beans and rice that came with the fajitas were also satisfying. The SKINNY MARGARITA and bubbly wine were fantastic. Overall, I had a good experience here at Bar Poca Madre. We ordered a $3 side of quac to go w chips and a $3 side of pico. I ordered a steak quesadilla I told her I don't eat refried beans she said I can trade them out for black beans, they were great. I got a cheese quesadilla. My husband had steak fajitas. We were waiting forever for the bill. She never came out except when the bus boy asked her to get me steak for quesadilla. Finally my husband went to car and I never looked at bill just handed her card. As I'm walking back to car I'm confused at bill. It was at least $12 more than it should have been. I was on way to car and I turned around and asked if I could actually see a bill, she pulled it up on her machine. Beans $4 up charge. She did not tell me $3 pico I pointed to was $6 or $8. It was great but we ate about a 1/4 of it there are only a few chips. She said she gave me a large even though I only saw the side and that's what I showed her. I'm not sure what else was extra because when I asked if she could adjust it and if I could adjust tip accordingly she walked away and pretended she couldn't hear me. Service was very slow. There were at least 4 servers on the floor and only about 5 tables seated in the restaurant. Really inefficient service. There was a mistake on my bill. The chicken was shredded and very charred. It was not tasty and not a good taco in general. The guacamole was delicious however! All the cocktails have syrups and they are premixed. We came to this restaurant after seeing great reviews on TikTok, but sadly our experience was very disappointing. The waiter was pleasant at first and mentioned he'd bring a complimentary tres leches cake to celebrate my mom's birthday -- but we never got it, and he never came back to check on us. The service was terrible. I've been to much smaller places with far better customer service. We even drove 21 miles to try this spot, and it was definitely not worth it. The food was just as bad -- my chiles rellenos still had the skin on, which made them tough and chewy. My mom's pozole tasted old, and the tamales were dry and flavorless. After that, we decided to leave without the "free cake." Honestly, we lost our appetite. We won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place. TikTok made it look much better than it really is. Great food and drinks Omar our server was right on point. Lots of good dishes to pick from I had the octopus a little rubbery but it had lots of flavor and the sauce was HOT, the tampiqueña was delicious as well. They have a big selection of good quality tequilas Foratleza tequilas they are very rear here in Illinois but they have them. We had a shot of the 200 batch the manager mentioned it and brought it to us. Great service, food, ambiance will definitely visit again. Really nice restaurant! I was surprised at the large portion sizes and the great tasting drinks. We started with the steak nachos, which were large enough to split between two people and become full! We each ordered our own margarita flight and even tho a couple of them was a bit too sweet, it was still delicious. Id like to say good things about Bar Poca Madre, but I can really only speak to the decor, which was pretty cool and the chips which were tasty. Because nothing else happened. We were seated within a few minutes of our 7pm reservation. By 7:12pm we remained unacknowledged by any staff. At some point we were given water and chips by a runner which was nice. But we left at 7:45, with no one ever coming to take our order. If they were short staffed, which happens, maybe the manager lady with the official headset thing would have said something like "be with you in a minute" or "thanks for your patience". But that didn't happen. She walked by with blinders on as if we were invisible. There was a server at the table behind ours a couple times, but she also never looked over. So cool vibe and ample parking in the Burr Ridge decks, but zero organization from staff. After 45 minutes of zero service we left. read more

Tamales were drenched in mole and dry, steak tacos were average but salty, verde soup has great flavor, chips and salsa were underwhelming. Inside was really bustling and cute, and packed. My daughter and I dined at this new edition of restaurants in the Burr Ridge Center. The menu is amazing and Brunch is served On weekends until 3pm! Service was great and efficient. Visited the restaurant on Friday 1/24/25. My new favorite Mexican Restaurant! 1st of all they accommodated us even though they were booked for the time slot we wanted. They even honor our request to be seated by the window. Complimentary chips and very good salsa! Appetizer we had the white fish ceviche and wow! That presentation was beautiful with a generous portion! Flavor was good but could be better. The acidity was perfect but it just needs a little more flavor or salt. My husband had the skirts steak Tampiquena and it was huge, perfectly cooked to his liking, tender and juicy. Flavor was just right & delicious! I had the Mar y Tierra and I must say that was the most tender skirt steak I've ever had! Super delicious, melt in your mouth on every bite! I was so impressed! Big portion of mahi mahi and it was delicious too with that mojo de ajo sauce. Love it! The only flaw is that the side chef salad had no dressing so there was no flavor to it but this is minor issue to me bc the dish is very delicious! We had the Pastel Tres Leches for dessert and oh my! That's was so good! The sweetness was perfectly balanced. We really enjoyed this! Drinks I ordered the Caipirinha and it was one of the best I've had. Could be less on the ice but still perfectly made! I forgot the name of our server but she was the perfect server for us. What I mean to say is that her timing is just right with the food and everything else. 5 star bc we enjoyed the food, the ambiance & also the location. Came here on the last warm Monday night of the fall season , it was a last minute decision. We were hoping to sit outside but they only had 2 seat tables left and we had 2 kids with us.
