Wow, I used to come to this building when it was formerly run as "edo". I must say "miso happy" has kept the inside of the building how I remember it while adding a little modern twist including a robot waiter. Went for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon. Ordered from the lunch menu ( two sushi rolls and a salad And three sushi rolls and soup). Each roll had 6 normal size pieces. Sushi was good as you can see from the pictures. Service was good and everyone was nice. It was more than we could finish and gladly took the rest home. For the people who dined at Edo in the same building, they seem to have removed a few tables which makes feel less crowded and they replaced the lights at the sushi bar with hanging fish lights. First time trying Miso Happy. We had a nice experience. Our server was extremely kind and patient. The sushi was yummy. I wouldn't say the sushi was my favorite as some of the rice seemed not the freshest, little dry, but still very yummy. I will say the mango roll was fabulous because of how sweet and ripe the mango was. Melted in your mouth. Fish seemed fresh. Tonkotsu was yummy! Loved the mushrooms in it. Great portion. read more

We went today after going opening day and couldn't be seated due to being full. I am so happy we were able to try it. The food was delicious (a little pricey but not terrible) the portions are great imo. I loved their decor with Totoro and small studio Ghibli references here and there (my favorite movies). We tried their Passionfruit Green Tea and the Strawberry Green Tea, both were delicious and we look forward to trying other drinks, also they carry Ramune soda's so my kid was super happy about that. My coworkers and I went to Miso Happy for lunch today. We were quickly seated and waited on. Staff was so friendly and efficient! The salad was yummy and fresh, and my coworkers said the soup was delicious too! I got the chicken teriyaki lunch bento box. That was a ton of food! I ended up making it into 2 meals. Everything was so good! It all tasted freshly made, and had good flavor. My coworkers food also looked delicious! They got poke bowls, volcano roll, and shrimp and noodles. When we first walked in this rly nice lady gave us some hot milk tea(complementary). It was great. The place is honestly pretty nice inside and out. There was this room we sat in last time, you get to sit on the ground with a low table like they do in china! I got the Hollywood roll. It was basically just a California roll with cream cheese. I went back this weekend and it was definitely way busier than a weekday but i figured it would be. There was a short wait but it was definitely worth it. i waited about 15min to be sat it was me & 2 others. there were 2 families before me and we still didn't wait long! We have officially found our new spot for Japanese food and sushi! Miso Happy is the closest I have had to good sushi in the area since moving from NYC. All the food was so good and the robot that brings your food was a fun touch. They also have their lunch menu available on Saturdays. The staff was very friendly and considering the restaurant is just recently opened, the service was good. We did have to wait a little bit for our check but they had gotten busy with the dinner rush so totally understandable. The restaurant has a traditional Japanese design on the outside with a cute minimalist design on the inside. Next time we come I want to try the traditional seating. Highly recommend trying them out! read more

I am so happy to find a sushi place that doesn't use corn syrup or other sweeteners in their rice or in the pickled ginger. The size of the sushi pieces are generous. I also loved the ramen. It is very natural, with a charming atmosphere that I didn't expect to find in my neighborhood (or that neighborhood--which has mostly fast food). But this place feels like a traditional Japanese restaurant. Our waiter was good too, very helpful and sweet-natured. The portions are generous and it is a good value. The food was not good. Ginger salad was drowned in dressing. The seafood pancake was very undercooked, then I had some horrible stomach pain and sickness after having the ramen. My girlfriend's Gyu Don was room temperature when it arrived. Service never came to check on us or refill drinks. Service was slow-ish. It was very busy. The sushi was okay but not the best in town. Hibachi is good and it's the only place I know that has Japanese street food like Takoyaki. Awesome! Been there twice with family and loved our meals both times. We used to love Edo's and were so sad when they closed. They had the best sushi rolls in town! Luckily, Miso Happy seems to be just as good. We've tried several of the sushi rolls and they are really good. I also tried the spicy sichuan sizzling beef and the Ten Don Danburi which is tempura battered shrimp and veg in a bowl. All of it was delicious. Like every new restaurant that opens in Madison they were slam full each time but the service was great; friendly and very helpful. If you were a fan of Edo's I think you'll be pleased with Miso Happy. read more
