Another outing with Chloe means another sushi date. No matter how many times we say we are gonna eat something different...we lie. This time we went to Kobe Sushi Hibachi Express in Madison. They have a really good, extensive menu. We started off with Agedashi Tofu and Yuzu Tuna (tuna, avocado, mango, cucumber, and yuzu). Both were really good. I love tofu but Chloe isn't a big fan so I had that all to myself. Chloe got the Crazy Tuna Roll (spicy tuna and avocado topped with pepper tuna and a honey wasabi sauce and I ordered the Lobster Mango Roll (lobster tempura, avocado, cucumber, and spicy tuna topped with mango and a mango sauce). We really liked both of them but agreed that the Lobster Mango Roll was our favorite. We also had the Chicken Fried Rice to take home but sampled some of it while we were there. I love the vibe of this place, not fancy or anything but it has a certain welcoming quality to it. The menu was honestly so big, there was so many things I wanted to try. I ended up getting the maki combo, which came with any three rolls (non-specialty) and a soup and salad. I also got some sesame balls, which I really loved the flavor and texture of. I did wish that it was a bit less greasy, but it wasn't that big of an issue. I thought the food was yummy and you could definitely tell it was fresh. The server was friendly and did a really great job for only his third day (I didn't catch his name, I totally wish did). The wait wait too long either, even when it got pretty busy. The down side to this place is that a lot of the menu items can be on the pricier side. In comparison to other similar places, the portions can be smaller, even for the price point (Everyone at my table ordered sushi, so this may not be the case for entrees). We came in late on a Sunday night. Just an hour before closing and the place was empty. The staff was super nice and accommodating. Checking on us frequently and making sure we had everything we needed. The menu is quite large and if you've haven't been to a Japanese, sushi, or hibachi place I would say it would be difficult to decide what to get. I had the tonkatsu which came with soup, salad, and white rice. The miso soup was good and the salad was fresh. My tonkatsu was delicious with the sauce but otherwise a little dry. I think it could've used less time in the fryer to retain some moisture. My husband ordered the hibachi sirloin steak. His steak was cooked just right and was tender and flavorful. We had others in our party who ordered lo mein, vegetable hibachi, and fried rice. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Everything came out hot and fresh. The lady helping us was very kind and tried her best to help us even though it seemed she was running the front dining area by herself. The facility was nice, very quaint, and clean. Took Friday off so I could have a four day weekend and then made the drive out to Madison to grab my ShakeIt Boba fix and some carry out lunch -- Kobe wound up being my pick for that. I used their website to order online. It was very easy to navigate and its clarity removed any questions or concerns about my order. I could tell exactly what I was getting and could change it to my specifications with great ease. Also, you can order things for their lunch special prices on their website, which I've found isn't always the case with other places -- sometimes they'll only do lunch specials for dine-in only. Not Kobe. Because of that, we got two lunch specials (so an entree with our choice of soup or salad) and an appetizer for about $21 before tip. Great value! My order was placed for 12:15. I arrived a little early, so it wasn't ready quite yet. The super friendly employees offered me a chair to sit while I waited. Food came out at about 12:17. The small staff was effusive, kind, and running a tight ship. There were a couple people dining in, though they were seated very far apart. All employees were masked, and most were gloved. My food was boxed very securely, with not a crumb out of place when I arrived home. They even used cardboard to separate the soup containers from the styrofoam boxes to prevent slippage. The food was pretty good! I got my usual vegetable hibachi and pork gyoza, while boyfriend opted for chicken hibachi this time. The veggie hibachi consisted of carrots, onions, broccoli, mushrooms, and zucchini (I think - possibly cucumber). The soup was a clear soup with a couple of slices of mushroom. The veggies were flavorful and the yum yum sauce was very good - closer to one of my favorites. Will ask for extra if I visit again. Boyfriend said his chicken hibachi was "pretty good," and polished all of it off. The soy dipping sauce for the pork gyoza was tasty and a bit thicker and more complex than your standard soy sauce. My only complaints are that the veggie hibachi was a little oily, and the pork gyoza themselves were a little too chewy for me. I like them a bit crisper. At any rate, this is another affordable, friendly, tasty, and well managed spot for Chinese and Japanese favorites. read more

This is THE BEST Japanese restaurant in Huntsville and Madison. My boyfriend and I have been dining at Kobe for a few years now; since they first opened, actually. Our food has never been bad. Everything we have ever tried from their menu has been phenomenal, and the staff who work here work tirelessly to make sure your food and dining experience is great. They have also always followed social distancing/sanitation protocols for Covid-19 since the first day regulations were put into place. Tonight we bought the most food we have ever gotten from a restaurant, in terms of both dine-in and take-out, and not only was ordering over the phone easy and painless, but they fulfilled this order in just 15 minutes. All of the food was packaged securely, and we had no spillage or leakage from Kobe to our apartment. The food itself was fantastic and tasted just as good as when we get it in restaurant. Wish they had more Asian style beer, but good sake. The jalapeño yellowtail was a little bland for me so spiced it up with sriracha and it was perfect. Mackerel was amazing! One of the best places in Madison for Asian food! My favorite thing about this restaurant is the food presentation. I've been here several times, and every time I order sushi, the plate is decorated with beautiful flowers or ice sculptures. Today, we had quite a large party, but were served promptly. After checking their menu online I figured this would be a good place to allow him to dip his toe in. Arriving the place wasn't very busy. The owner reminds me of the old sushi chef at little Tokyo on University Drive in the 80's into the 90's. Great Hibachi, super Sushi and very good prices. We live in an adjacent neighborhood and the owner loves our boys or any children that come in. The boys will often go by for drinks and some Miso just to have a hangout. We ordered takeout here twice, a few months apart. The first time we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and value of the sushi party platters (ordered two total). The second time we noticed one of the platters had a slightly fishy odor. Chalking this up to the sauces/ingredients used in the sushi, we ate it. This was a mistake. Everyone who ate from the fishy smelling platter awoke a few hours later with severe gastrointestinal upset that can only be attributed to food poisoning. I really wanted to like this place because of its convenient location and affordable good sushi. Chose to go here on a quieter lunch day, and the quality was stellar. Personally not a big hibachi person, but the hibachi steak and chicken I ordered were well cooked and plated nice. The salad dressing is definitely different from more Italian style dressings that I'm used to, but turned out to be a perfect sweet compliment to the bitterness of salad vegetables. Outside of the food, the place itself was clean and had a family-friendly atmosphere. This restaurant is tucked away in a small strip mall and looks very unassuming, but looks are completely deceiving. The sushi is always fresh and the staff is the most friendly and kind people you've ever met. We have done both dine in and take out and the quality is the same; they really have raised our standards of take out. When we do eat at Kobe everything is very clean and all COVID-19 precautions are being implemented. Oh and don't forget to look at the sushi roll specials! My husband doesn't like sushi so he gets the hibachi, and I'll admit I steal some of his when he's not looking lol. Just a heads up, if you order through Grubhub the prices are much higher. Teriyaki Madness was closed on Labor Day but Kobe Sushi Hibachi Express wasn't. I'm not sure if it should be called express because the food wasn't expedient, but that is ok if it tastes good. If I had a choice between here, I Love Sushi or EDO's, I'd probably pick this restaurant. Its price point is comparable to the other better Japanese restaurants. The food here is more flavorful. Maybe more Ajinomoto?! Naw I don't know. We had the Beef Teriyaki, Hibachi Salmon, Chicken Katsu, Chicken Lo Mein and Chicken Fried Rice. The first 3 dishes were great but make sure you get Katsu sauce if you get the Chicken Katsu. It has the consistency of ketchup. They gave me Shrimp Tempura dipping sauce and it wasn't the same. The Chicken Lo Mein and Fried Rice is similar to what you would expect at other restaurants. Not much more to say other than I will probably have to bring this up as an option if my wife asks me what's for dinner. If you love country music with yummy asian food, this is definitely the spot :) I did a take out order so I didn't get to enjoy the whole play list :) read more
