Yum! I'd been wanting to visit Miso Taco back when they were in Chinatown, so I was thrilled to find out they've relocated to Cambie. I tried the Jamaica Me Crazy to drink and, after debating between the Taco Bowl, I went for the Kimchi Nacho Fries. My husband ordered the Matcha Made in Heaven and Passion Colada, along with the Chicken Karaage Tacos. Carlos S. looked after us and he was great - super kind, and I appreciated that he let us hang out without rushing but still checked in at just the right times. Service here is excellent, and the food is even better. It was busy on the Friday night we visited, so I'm glad we made a reservation. Most tables were full, which made it a bit loud inside, but the energy was fun. I'm still dreaming about those Kimchi Nacho Fries. They had everything - refried beans, cheese, kimchi, salsa - and it was crave-worthy. This restaurant is incredibly accommodating for dietary needs since they let you swap any protein for mushrooms or tofu, which I love. My absolute go-to is the teriyaki cheesy tacos with mushrooms - they are honestly amazing. The mushrooms have that perfect savory-sweet glaze, and the way the cheese forms a crispy, golden-brown crust against the tortilla adds such a satisfying crunch and richness. The smoky kick from the chipotle mayo ties it all together beautifully. My friend always gets the Birria-dilla and completely swears by it: the tortillas are grilled until they're perfectly melty and loaded with flavor. He always says that the real magic happens when you dunk it into that rich, savory dipping broth, which makes every bite incredibly succulent and intense. We also shared the chashu-style carnitas tacos (but replaced the meat with mushrooms), which were alright, but definitely played second fiddle to our favorites. One of the best parts is picking your own salsa from their huge selection. Even though I can't really handle spicy food, the green avocado salsa is incredible; it's mild enough for me to enjoy and pairs perfectly with the tacos. For dessert, the Churro Dango Loco is a really unique find with its mix of churros, creamed corn nuggets, and mochi-like dango. While it's a bit of a wildcard, the churros themselves are absolutely delicious and worth a try. Just a heads up: they have a great "buy two, get one free" deal on Tuesdays, but I'd actually recommend visiting for the first time on a different day. This was a recommendation from a friend living in the Vancouver area who is friends with the owner. They send everyone here and I get why. So we made it back and had lunch here on a weekday this time, instead of dinner. It was much quieter at this time, just like our server last time had told us. This was great cuz it meant that we could easily get a table, and as the weather is cold these days, inside tables are all they have now. Outside dining isn't even an option right now. We got to enjoy watching some anime this time. There were 3 screens inside the restaurant, and each one had a different anime show displayed on it. My daughter ordered the Ramen My Wrap again but contrary to what she said last time, she decided she wanted the entire thing to herself and even ordered it with beef instead of tofu this time, so I wasn't able to take a bite of it this time since I don't eat meat. She also had the Passion Colada drink again. She said her dish was better last time when it had tofu in it but that it was still good with the beef in it. I had the Kimchi Nacho Fries this time. This was delicious. My second choice would have been the Sizzling Cheese & Mushrooms, and I still want to try that one some other time; however, I enjoyed these Kimchi Nacho Fries so much that it might be difficult to not order them again whenever next I get to this place. read more

I wanted to try Misco Taco for a long time as the mix of Mexican & Japanese street food sounded tempting. There were some good dishes. In our group of 5 we started with the Shrimp Chips and Guacamole which we all liked. We ordered: 2 rice bowls, 2 tacos dishes and 1 Ultimate Chicken Wrap. For the tacos and wrap, we had a choice of salsas and all of us took the Pico De Gallo. Portion size and flavours were good, but my ultimate Chicken wrap was not spectacular as I didn't taste the flavours of the chicken. I also had the Jamaica Me Crazy (hibiscus, lychee & lime) which was a refreshing non-alcoholic drink. Others had beer. We all agree this was a neat concept and some dishes had better flavours than others. Service was great and very helpful. Décor was simple but colourful. Miso Taco moved to Cambie street recently so we checked it out. It's a mix of Mexican and Japanese with some fun twists on both food and drink. We started with the hot cheese (queso) style which came with soft tortilla. The flavour and melt was good on the cheese. Just needed to come with a few more soft tortillas. We also tried the squid skewers. The batter was nice but slightly fishy flavour for me. For my main event, I had to try the Birria-dilla with ramen noodles for my jus. Picture a Birria quesadilla with the beer jus but with ramen noodles to dip. The Birria was really great, flavourful and it was piping hot so the cheese was super melty and dipped in the jus was even better. I also appreciated the spice on the chunky green salsa. The ramen noodles in the jus was just OK but isn't necessary. As for drinks, we all tried a few. I got the dirty horchata which was nice, alittle sweet for me tho so could only have one. And I tried the miso margarita which was quite heavy on the cucumber. I'm a classic marg gal so would be nice to have the option of a classic on the menu. Before food: wasn't sure about Mexican/Japanese fusion. After meal: still not 100% sure about this fusion. Mexican oyakodon was different than a typical Japanese oyakodon as it came with avocado and your choice of salsa. Enchiladas had a choice of protein, I chose teriyaki beef - interesting and tasty combo, and super generous with the cheese, but I'd prefer classic enchiladas. Regardless, an innovative place that's not afraid to step outside the box. A for effort. Though, from the dishes we ordered, I don't feel like they a) fully worked (the fusion), or b) not 'fusion'ed' enough. The restaurant is quite spacious and family friendly. The tacos come with salsa sauce of choice but there were so many of us and we all ordered tacos so they gave us a platter of sauces. There was no labels so we have volunteers to see which ones were the less spicy ones. I had the chicken karaagge tacos. My impression was the chicken was fried really well and it goes really well with the fresh veggies and sauces. My only complaint is there are not enough salsas to go around for us. Our friend said that adding the ramen for the Burria-Dilla is a must. The ramen reminds her of migoreng. I actually had a lot of fried chicken that night since we need to finish my son's taco bowl as well. The place is feels very welcoming. The best part her is they were playing Sailormoon on the TV. Miso Taco on Cambie opened about a month ago and has gained popularity for their fusion Japanese-Mexican dishes! I went there on a Sunday afternoon so it was crowded, we had to put our names on a waitlist for a party of 4 and got in like 20mins after (not too bad). The place is good but don't think it can accomodate a big party. We ordered non-alcoholic drinks but there were all soo good! I would say that was the highlight of the restaurant, would recommend the - Like a Virgin, Jamaica Me Crazy, and Passion Colada For food - :: Kimchi nachos - best dish on the menu! They fries were cheesy and layered with perfection. The taste of the kimchi was amazing and the dipping sauce was so good. Would highly recommend this - 5/5 :: Birria-Dilla tacos - Also excellent, it was basically a quesadilla filled with birria and had the birria dipping sauce. Loved it! 5/5 :: Ramen my wrap - not the best, it was pretty bland.. lacked flavour and the ramen in a wrap didn't stand out to me as much. 2/5 :: Chicken karaage tacos - I had high expectations from this but it didn't stick. The karaage was dry and it was hard to have it unless you pour a lot of sauce on there. 3/5 The service was not bad, they took 15-20mins to take our order and another 30mins to get the food. My partner was craving Meixcan/tacos so we came here since we were in the area. It was my partner's first time and she absolutely loved the vibes and ambiance of the restaurant. It was very nostalgic with the older anime being played on the TVs (Sailor Moon, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter). Our server was very friendly and helpful and provided their insight on the dishes we were inquiring about. The food was delicious and did not disappoint. I've ordered the Birria-Dilla and Tuna Tataco before, but wanted my partner to try. They recently changed their Tempura Enoki dish to squid instead, so we tried that. My fave item was the Birria-dilla which combines the popular birria taco with a quesadilla. It was very cheesy and delicious! The Chashu Style Carnitas Tacos had very tender pieces of pork inside and there was plenty of filling.  Both of these dishes come with your choice of salsa so we picked the Smoked Pepper salsa and the Green Avocado salsa. The Smoked Pepper one was really thick like a paste and I was not a fan of the smoky taste since it was a bit bitter and we liked the Green Avocado one better.  The Kimchi Nacho Fries sounded promising but I think it had too many onions for me (and I don't usually mind raw onions). It also came with refried beans, cheese and cilantro. We added on Chicken Kaarage and each piece was juicy. This also came with a choice of salsa. Miso Taco - YES... there is no conFUSION about this. This place is owned and operated by Chef Diego. A Mexico City dude making it big in Vancity. Diego worked for years in Japanese restaurants and learning about the foods of the east. Years later, he opened up Miso Taco just on the edge of Chinatown. It was a success!!! And I've been recommending his place to everyone. Food here is excellent. Right size, right prize, and right for the tastebuds. The unique menu items comes from Diego's desire to max out flavours. His Birria Taco maxes out the amount of cheese a taco can handle and his dip can be used as sauce to add to ramen noodles. His menu is worth exploring - everything is so good and make sure you order up some of his in-house made salsas - the Diego Salsa is excellent. They made their move to their Cambie Street location - and it's so much closer to where I live, so thumbs up!!! And he opened up a second location in Burnaby (me thinks) and he's dabbling with a French/Mex idea as well. Service is spot on and it seems that his staff really appreciate him and his energy. It really is his personality that sets the ambiance of his restaurants. Happy, full of energy and you can't help being drawn in and enjoying yourself. Thought I would try this restaurant for lunch and it was okay. The service and food is a little bit on the slow side, although at the time the restaurant was less than half full. The prices are pretty reasonable and the food was quite tasty. I got the birria-dilla for $17. This was thick and had a lot of fillings, especially the cheese. The birria broth to dip in was salty. I liked how hot the food was when it arrived. My friend got the chicken karaage tacos and he said it was good. The issue is, after lunch, I was incredibly thirsty. I already drank a lot of water during lunch, and afterwards I drained my large water bottle. My friend said the same, so it wasn't just because of the salty birria-dilla broth on the side. So this alone is stopping me from going back. Although a reservation is not really required, I like how you can book a table easily on OpenTable and there's lots of availability. There is some free street parking a few blocks south of the restaurant on Cambie, or in the neighbourhood. Although the food was tasty, I was way too thirsty after to want to visit again. Was craving their beef teriyaki cheesy tacos, so I went back! Their beef teriyaki tacos this time were okay. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too strong and the cheese were quite burnt and hard. It crunchy part was good but could've been looked slightly less. Their chasiu ramen wrap was still very good! It's also incredibly filling. The chicken karaage tacos were were delicious! Very nice crunch and a good ration of meat to skin. They eeerr generous with the portions too. We tried to miso soup and it was way too salty and tasted like packet miso from the store. For $4/cup that was really just two sips. I wouldn't order it again. I love how they meld two cultural foods - Asian and Hispanic - food into one awesome dish! While it's all about the tacos they do have some items both appetizers and specials of the day plus brunch style choices if you go early that will knock your socks off and all at a reasonable price. In fact we're from Seattle and we went back twice in less than a week. On both trips we had the birria-dilla tacos that are more like a quesadilla with an awesome dipping consome and be sure to get a side of ramen to dip too! We've also had the chicken karaage tacos (excellent), the attako on taco (deep fried baby octopus to die for), and the chashu style carnitas tacos. Our fave appetizer was the kimchi nacho fries. Just wow! Best fusion food I've eaten since I moved to Vancouver. Apparently they also have a restaurant in Burnaby. I stopped at the one on Cambier street on my way to a concert. Needed a quick dinner so this seems like a good option. Japanese-mexican street food is not something I heard of before but it works great! I ordered the attako on taco ( with fried octopus, bonito flakes and an amazing secret sauce) and my friend the Tuna taco (with seared tuna and wasabi mayo). It was an explosion of flavours. Nacho Kimchi Fries: a must order here because its a HUGE shareable bowl of fries topped with plenty of cheese, kimchi and a choice of protein (for an additional charge. We went with the Chashu and it was tender and flavourful. Squid Skewers: tempura style squid battered, skewered and fried topped with a delicious sauce with cheese! Ramen Wrap with Chicken Karaage: take your average burrito and replace the rice with instant noodles and the protein with well battered chicken karaage. Add some pickled onions and spicy jalapeños and you have this unforgettable dish. Had to flag a waiter down to get someone to take our order. Would recommend better communication or have a host that can run the floor better. The consume was different from what I've had before. With other types of consume that I've had, one could slurp it all up at the end like soup. The consume here at MT not so much. Well that was a disaster. We arrived around 12:15pm for lunch and were seated relatively promptly. It took about 10 minutes for a server to come by. The menu states they have vegan options, but isn't at all clear about what can be vegan -- so you have to ask the server. This doesn't seem efficient. Why not just put a symbol next to dishes that can be done vegan? It took another 10-15 minutes for the server to come back to take our order. I ordered the fried rice bowl ($18) and added some tofu ($3). My wife got the ramen bowl. My order didn't come out until about the 50-minute mark. And my wife's still hadn't arrived 15 minutes after that, at which point we canceled the order, as it had apparently been wrongly delivered to another table. My dish -- though advertised as a mushroom fried rice -- didn't have mushrooms it. Despite that, the dish is just not well-designed: there's a lot of raw onion, crappy iceberg lettuce, under-ripe tomatoes, and is generally just pretty uneventful. The server was eventually apologetic about everything and comp'd us for the fried rice, but she was quite inattentive and unresponsible until that time. Even if everything had gone perfectly, the food was profoundly mediocre. Given the experience, we definitely have no reason to return. They have a lot of to improve on in their operations. read more

MISO TACO I finally had time to revisit my favourite taco spot of all time--and it did not disappoint They just released a ton of new menu items, and even added a patio for the season! This retro arcade anime themed taco spot is also the perfect place for large groups and fun dates. I got to try out their new Baby Shrimp Taco and it's definitely been added to my "must-order" list. My other fav tacos are the Chasu Taco, Attako on Taco, and Tuna Tatacco. Their Kinako & Churros is also a must for dessert, and you have to check out their cocktail menu for the coolest drinks (psst--they even have adult slushies now). Their house made salsas also don't get the spotlight it deserves, so make sure you order all variety of them to find your favourite. It's a fun restaurant with unique menu items. They played anime on the TVs and also had free to play arcade games. The food was quite nice and surprisingly not greasy. The kimchi fries are similar in texture and flavour to costco fries but topped with kimchi and sauces. I had the tuna tataco and it was seasoned well and paired well with the sauce. Unfortunately, I had a subpar customer service experience at Miso Taco. I was sat at the end of the bar, closest to the storage and kitchen, where I was constantly nudged and told "excuse me" because the waitstaff had to access the goods that were stored 1ft away from my seat. I was never asked if I wanted drinks or a drink menu, and got little to no customer service despite looking around and everyone else seeming to have the full package. Perhaps I didn't appear as high priority as other patrons. The food was good, but it didn't make up for the experience. read more
