We came here on a Saturday for lunch. It's a good size place, 2 rooms actually. We ordered the salted shrimp and chicken fried rice, the fried halibut and the house special chow mein. They were all very tasty. The portion sizes were good and the prices were comparable to other Chinese style cafes. The service was friendly as well. There is pay parking on Fraser and some side streets unless you wanna walk a little further, then you can find some free parking. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience. Always nostalgic visiting this place since it's been in business for a long time! This is definitely one of the OG HK cafes in Vancouver. You can find your standard HK food offerings like western baked rice and pasta dishes, pick-your-own-items entrees, and Canto-style stir-frys. Their milk teas and HK coffees are always top notch. We came for dinner the other day and ordered 3 dishes to share amongst 4 people and came home with plenty of leftovers. Found this place close to our air BNB in Vancouver BC. I was looking for a Hong Kong style place and this one hit the mark. It was a stat holiday in February so it was packed. We only waited a few minutes for a table. We ordered our lunch which came with a free Hong Kong coffee and soup of the day. My husband ate the soup and loved it. We were craving authentic Hong Kong comfort food. We found Angel Cafe hit the spot! We indulged in the Shrimp with Stir Egg Sauce over Rice Noodles and the Spicy Pork with Eggplant over Yi Mein. Each dish comes with your choice of soup (Russian Borscht, Chinese, or Cream) and a hot beverage (cold options available for an extra cost). So satisfying and generous portions meant leftovers. Some classic Hong Kong cafe food is something I haven't had in the longest time. Angel cafe is an old favourite and it was nice to be back after years! The borsht soup came with our meal and it was on the tart side but that's what I love about the soup so no complaints from me. We also ordered the baked chicken with meat sauce spaghetti which came in a portion large enough for the both of us! Last but not least we got a bowl of century egg and fish congee. This was also a large portion and we had enough to take home for the next day! A solid HK style cafe in the Fraser hood area. Parking used to be free in the back until the COV decided to implement pay parking for the stretch of lots behind all the businesses on the west side of Fraser street alleys. I've come here many a times. It's close to the senior's place, so this establishment gets a bit of lovin' from us all the time. They like it here. Standard food and standard taste. Reminds me of the old Goldstone in Chinatown. The inside is a bit beat up and some may consider a bit dirty. I've been to worse, so I can handle it. I hope they stay around for a long time. Definitely a dying breed in Vancouver, if you want to know what I consider an HK cafe when I grew up look no further and just come here, this place has all the aesthetics of yesteryear, I really do not think this place has ever had any significant renovation, and it really doesn't need to as it is a staple of this area. I come here for either the breakfast of mid-day special, but there will be something here you will like. I found the service very attentive, the food taste is what you would expect from an older establishment, nothing over the top, but something very familiar. The last time I was here a friend and I sat around for breakfast on a weekday and it was pretty much full, and you can tell that this was a go-to for people who come here often, from the 'hello's' being handed off by the regular's to people being all comfortable reading their morning paper the good part is this restaurant is on a corner where a lot of natural lighting comes in. Their HK hot milk tea, from the taste, is pulled pretty good, along with their normal servings of satay beef macoroni, congee with rice rolls, noodle dishes, rice dishes, mixed western influenced food, sandwiches, there is a good assortment. A no-fuss HK style cafe. You get what you pay for. Simple food, cafe service, cafe decor. We went with a large group and called ahead with reservations and they were able to accommodate us on a Sunday late morning spot. A lot of HK style cafe have similar menus with simple noodles and omelette combos etc. I was craving an omelette that day but other places I've gone to I found them to be too oily. So I stuck with flat rice noodles and fish cakes. Nothing to write home about. It was bland to be frank. My friend's omelette looked quite decent and not oily. Called in late Saturday night around 9:10pm for their late night mini set meal. I ordered their House Special Spaghetti (tomato sauce with ham, chicken, peas, corn, mushrooms, and carrots) and upgraded my complimentary drink to a cold (extra charge for cold beverages) milk tea. My take out order was ready for pick up in "ten to fifteen minutes" and when I got there by 9:25pm my order was ready to go for $12. House Special spaghetti was delicious and addicting as always. I ate half the portion and drank the milk tea, satisfying for a late night meal. Portions are not as big as before and prices have gone up but there isn't a better Hong Kong style cafe near the Fraser/South Hill neighbourhood so my family and I come here pretty often. All the street and back alley parking is now metered and paid parking (boo City of Vancouver!) but the Impark back alley parking is only between the hours of 9am to 6pm so after 6pm you can park for free to enjoy dinner in the Fraser neighbourhood. read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant on June 8, 2024. The waitstaff were quite rude and spoke in loud, broken English, making them difficult to understand. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be returning. I visited on a Friday night at 8 PM. Upon arrival, the hostess informed us that the kitchen would close at 8:30 PM and then left us standing at the entrance. We had to follow her to confirm if we could still be seated and served. When we attempted to place our orders, several items were unavailable because the kitchen had already begun to close. We ordered a combo meal that included soup, rice, and main dishes. When our main dishes arrived, we mentioned that we hadn't received our soup. The server brusquely informed us that the kitchen was closed, despite it only being 8:15 PM at the time. Our second dish was served at 8:30 PM, and immediately afterward, the waiter asked how many takeout containers we needed as the restaurant was closing soon. We had barely finished the first dish and had not started the second one. Shortly after, the waiter brought the takeout containers and presented the bill. We were charged the full price for the combo meal, even though we never received the soup. When we inquired about this, the waiter loudly stated that the kitchen was closed. The food was overpriced and did not justify the poor service we received.There are numerous other restaurants on Fraser Street that provide superior food, ambiance, and service at the same price point. read more

My family has been ordering takeout a lot from Angel. They've been around for awhile but there was a period where we stopped going. As a takeout option, its definitely a really good option. For a HK style cafe, you definitely get your moneys worth and a whole lot of value. I think almost all orders come with your choice of drink or soup. Their HK style borscht soup is really really good, and their cream soups are also quite good. The size of their meals are also quite sizable. Two dishes is probably enough for dinner and next days lunch between two people. Lots of good items to have on their menu as the actual meal too. Their baked rices are great. Lots of veggies and meats in one good. They do a great job baking them as your really get a nice top layer of cheese to dine on. Huge selection of vermicelli and rice dishes. I think they got almost all the major Asian style of cuisines available. Their Singaporean fried vermicelli is a personal favourite of mine. The HK-Malaysian beef brisket curry was actually one of the best I've ever had and the portion size was so massive that I could only finish about two thirds of my meal. My friends ordered a noodle soup and two hot stone bowl dishes, and they all had to pack half of their meals to go. Most of the dishes were between $11-$14 which we thought was quite reasonable. It was open for dine in and there were a few empty tables so we went for it. After we sat down, two more parties came in and all the tables were occupied. The tables were not too close, but unlike precautions taken by other restaurants, there were no barriers separating the tables and customers were seated at every table. Have of course been coming here regularly even during the past few months of pandemic Covid restrictions; today, we came for the air conditioning - yup, needed shelter from this heat dome! As usual, food was great, the complimentary iced drinks very welcome and service was FAST!! In fact, their waitstaff is always exceptional - practically non-stop running with the huge platters, interspersed with them taking phone orders and handing them out when the patron comes to collect (and as many times as I've been here, I've never heard anybody complaining about wrong orders etc) and all done with a pleasant demeanour and smiles. Please tip your wait staff well when you make it out here!! IMHO, they're just about the best wait staff I've had the pleasure of being served by! And the food remains consistently great - to the point that we eat here at least weekly if not twice/thrice in a week. And for not much more than if we cooked at home! Pretty average HK style cafe but there aren't too many in the area. My favourite is still BT Cafe on the other end of Fraser but this location was convenient for my friend. The last time I came here was probably over 10 years ago and I don't remember it being anything to write home about so I went with the baked pork chop rice ($13 with a soup and hot drink) a classic Hong Kong cafe dish. The borscht soup they had was on the sour side but also pretty bland. If they put any beef/beef bones in this soup it'd be pretty hard to find it. Their hot milk tea was also terrible. It tasted like the tea bag was left in for several hours and left an extremely bitter taste and dry feeling in my mouth. The baked pork chop rice was massive, but it should be at this price point. Overall I thought the pork was nice but they don't use egg fried rice in their baked rice which is a bit disappointing. I felt this dish tasted decent overall. The food is decent but their sides and drinks need work. I felt the same way about what my buddy ordered as well. The restaurant looks like it has seen better days in terms of cleanliness and decor. Their speakers are duct taped to the walls for Pete's sake. At this price point I would say there are better restaurants in Vancouver but aside from my milk tea I felt it was acceptable. read more

Ah, Angel--I have been a loyal fan for many years. I continue to go to this day because your food is just so darn good and is at such a great value. If you're new to the cafe, I highly recommend ordering the same. CURRY BEEF BRISKET WITH RICE ($9.95): Angel knows how to do Malaysian curry. There are tons of beef brisket and roasted potatoes inside to soak up the curry, but don't fear because you will still have plenty of curry for the rice that comes on the side. There is sometimes inconsistencies in the size of the beef briskets though. SPAGHETTI W/ HAM, CHICKEN, PORK & EGG IN TOMATO SAUCE ($10.25): Out of the three dishes, this is perhaps the simplest, but the flavour is incredible. I've told myself a number of times that I will try to make this dish at home, but that has yet to happen, so until then, Angel it is. The only issues I've had with this dish are too much sauce or an overcooked egg. FOOK KEIN STYLE FRIED TWO KINDS OF VERMICELLI ($9.95): There is an abundance of seafood (mussels, squid, shrimp, fish cakes) stir-fried with standard and translucent vermicelli, along with some veggies. Overall, this may be the best value. Sometimes, the sauce might be a bit too salty though. If you want to save a few dollars and don't mind missing out on soup, go at around 2pm for their Mini Special Menu. (The prices above are for this menu.) We used to go when the breakfast only cost $6, but alas, inflation, food and labour costs and the other variables added in. This is the kind of place where the other customers are the closest thing to service you can get. You know it is a bad sign when all the customers are trying to help you, since the staff couldn't give a %$#@. Imagine my joy when evil door guy returned to be the one to take my order. He didn't speak then either. The menu said my dish of "mixed meat thick noodles" came with a drink and soup. He didn't ask what kind of drink. So I said, "Does that come with a drink?" He mumbled, "Yeah, what do you want?" and I ordered my cold milk tea. He never asked about soup choice, so I assumed they would just bring whatever the daily special was. Reasonably priced Hong Kong food but a few of their items were a turn off such as the pineapple chicken which was a sick mess of batter and chicken fat which made my wife and I sick afterwards. The Indonesian fried rice "nasi goreng" wasn't Indonesian at all but more Malaysian which was way too spicy. The 2 and 3 item menus are a good deal and you can easily split the 3 items between two people. Atmosphere is odd, very loud and busy with the wait staff being on their game. The owner I believe is an odd duck as he never smiles but is very prompt and effecient. Decent HK cafe I come here from time to time as it's a favorite among some of my family members. There's a fair selection (for dinner) on the menu but the most popular (IMO) is a "Pick 2 or 3" system for $13 or $16 respectively (I believe the late night specials after 9pm are cheaper). You pick your mains (which consist of western-style dishes such as chicken steak, baked oysters, shrimp, etc), sauce, carbs (rice/spaghetti/fries), and a drink. These all come with a baked potato, soup (the usual cream/tomato-soup-borscht), dinner roll, and a dessert (usually mango or coconut pudding). The portion sizes are quite large and I often have trouble finishing it - it could definitely be shared by 2 people. Service is hit or miss. It's pretty typical service for a HK cafe - efficient is the word I'd use to describe it. The place is usually busy but I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. The Fraser Street area it's located on is starting to be home to a few more casual chinese cafes and bubble tea shops but for the time being, there isn't too many similar options nearby. There's lots of free parking on the street or in the community parking lot in the back. Angel cafe is on par with similar restaurants in it's class - Honolulu, Gloucester, etc. It's a solid choice as a HK cafe, especially for late night. read more

Both western style dishes and Chinese style dishes are good. Price: For mini-meal set it's from $5.50 - $9.50 and it includes a not-so-mini dish + a hot drink. See the menu pictures for pricing of the items. They have special lunch sets for roughly $12 that includes a bigger dish + soup + hot drink on the blackboard. Ambience: The restaurant is not too big but it's good enough to sit comfortably. They don't have free wifi or shaw open wifi though. Overall comment/tips: They have mini-meal (that are not so mini) lunch set on weekday. For weekends, the mini-meal sets are available from 14:30 - 18:00. I think this is an overall better HK style cafe than a lot of other HK style cafe in town. They have good portion size food that taste good at a good price. For cheap eats, I would go when they have mini sets. They also have a bakery associated with it that have a lot of delicious cakes, even though I haven't tried it yet. read more

I found this place on my way home. I was craving cake and pastry, therefore, this place happen to be at the right place at the right time. I actually accidentally got off the bus stop one stop too early which was a blessing in disguise as the diet gods were calling to me for some cake. Sadly the cake I had was too dry in the center and the cream tasted as though it was out a little too long. This isn't a bad thing as I have eaten almost expired or delayed cake if cheap but it was as if it was sitting a little too long with rarely any turn over. Of course I love my bubble tea. I had the bubble tea and although not the greatest melon bubble tea I've had it wasn't that awful for under $4. They didn't want to do extra pearls even though I had offered to pay a little extra. read more

I walked in because the sign outside said "cake", but that was just a small section of the store. It's more of a Hong Kong Cafe where meals are served. Eat-in cake was ($1, I think) more than the take-out price displayed in the case. I guess the server wanted me to finish quickly, since I wasn't worth much tip, but I didn't mind, because it wasn't welcoming enough to stay. read more

After a round of twilight golf at Langara Golf Course my playing partner and I decided to grab a quick cheap dinner. We settled on Angel Cafe. I've been here a while ago. Boy it looks pretty dirty and run down. I don't remember it being so grimy! I ordered their Hot Pan Platter... 2 items (beef tongue, and chicken cutlet), soup, and a drink for $14. It's certainly cheap, but food quality and taste was so so... I found the beef tongue overcooked and difficult to eat. The chicken cutlet was ok. A bit bland, but passable. I think this place needs a major renovation or some sort of redo... This restaurant is not what it use to be. Give it a good cleaning and change over some of the weathered decor!
