The Teapot long ago was a great restaurant. Over the last 10 years, the interior of the restaurant was non functioning, but they still had take out. The food was good even if the interior looked suspiciously empty. Today the take out was terrible. I ordered a sushi lunch special. The fish pieces and the ginger pieces were given to me frozen. The meal came with a California roll which had no avocado, only some cucumber and some not very fresh crab roll. The entire meal (other than the miso soup) was non edible. Sadly I will not be going back to give them another chance. The restaurant has deteriorated so far, they should just close. Don't waste your food or your money here. Go somewhere else. read more

I hadn't been here for a few years, and it made me sad that it was absolutely empty on a Saturday evening. The food was good, but all the plastic serving dishes, plates and drink cups makes the whole experience fast food tacky. To add to it, the restroom was absolutely disgusting and that is enough to make me never return to a place. If the bathrooms aren't clean, the kitchen is likely filthy as well. So sad, as we used to love this place. I guess I'm not surprised that it was totally empty on what should've been a very busy night. I hope they can get their act together and thrive again, as they've always seem like a really nice family and staff. read more

I really wanted to like the food here but alas; blandness prevailed. We thought the price point was great for the amount of food we got but everything was so underwhelmingly seasoned and it just wasn't enjoyable at all. Waited (10) minutes for someone to come to front desk, decided to use the restroom and stop waiting....came up to be accosted by old bag of a lady screaming this wasn't my personal house and I can't use their restroom without asking. I explained I was waiting for more than (10) minutes and others could verify that. She was still beyond rude. I'm a grown 58 year old professional man....not sure what she was thinking. Took my lunch business down the street to Oriental Taste restaurant and service and food there were fine. Will NEVER visit Tea Dump again. I'd give zero stars but yelp doesn't allow that. read more

I just read an article about jackasses 1-starring restaurants on Yelp because -- during the greatest disaster of most of our lifetimes -- they're not sufficiently getting their puckers kissed by establishments frantically trying to cope with the new abnormal. So ... I'm resolved both to catch up on my reviews, and write no review where I can't honestly give a restaurant a decent rating. Happily, I can here. My wife's been a fan for years, but I only started sampling their fare when we moved to Noho this year. As with Chinese places generally, the prices are not cheap, but the portions are very ample (we usually eke 2 1/2 meals out of an order) and the food is very good. Even with the pandemic, their delivery's very fast, and you can do curbside pickup. About the only fly in the ointment for me is that the staffers answering the phone have almost unintelligibly thick accents, but so far they've yet to botch an order, so they plainly understand my English better than I do theirs. read more

We ate here for lunch yesterday. I ordered a spicy Sushi roll combo that was very underwhelming. The sushi was a bit fishy smelling and tasting and was quite dry. Even the wasabi that was included was dry and very dark green and hard. Overall not a good lunch and the bathrooms were unclean and pretty disgusting. We should have known when we walked in on a Saturday before Christmas and there were only two other people eating. This place used to be good. Sadly it has gone way downhill. The woman who takes orders on the phone has a disgusting attitude, little patience, and TERRIBLE customer service. It's sickening. I asked for clarification on prices and she raised her voice and said "You don't want it, go order somewhere else". I hope she knows that she is losing customers with her attitude alone. This is our first (and last) time going here. The health department should look into this establishment. It is filthy throughout the restaurant and bathrooms. Judging from the small portion of the kitchen visible from the hall, I don't have high hopes on the cleanliness in there either. There were remnants of several prior messy eaters on the floor under the table, like an old Ground Round that serves popcorn all day. A trip to the bathroom after further revealed the nasty underbelly of this establishment. There wasn't any toilet paper in the men's room and there was black grime coming up the walls. The bathrooms were an adventure in how to touch as little as possible. As for the food, the duck meat was dry and the white tuna looked as dirty as the bathroom...this is likely why the bathroom needed to be used twice depite the horror inside. read more

Server was nice but once I found a BONE in one of my soup dumplings, it was game over, sorry teapot never again...

I came into Teapot right when it opened and was serving their lunch special menu. The workers were finishing up cleaning and it smelled really fresh in the restaurant. One of the managers was considerate as she sat us down near the doors, later realizing that it was too cold and moved us. From the menu, we ordered "ginger chicken with string beans" and "twice cooked pork". We also got an egg drop soup and hot sour soup as part of the special. The dishes came out really quick but it was pretty funny seeing the food not fill the whole plate and there's a giant portion of food they don't include since lunch special is cheaper ( in picture). The soup was solid and not bad. The two dishes we ordered was really oily, a bit bland, and made us feel gross after eating. They must've of put and ingredient like msg inside. The service is very nice so I would come back for a nice cheap lunch. read more

The fried rice is awful. Dishes are just average. Heavily Americanized taste, rather than more Authentic Chinese and Japanese. Tastes are better after they changed chef this year. But the service of the waitress remains as bad. read more

I ordered delivery. Rice combo with boneless spare ribs and chicken fingers. The food arrived cold, the spare ribs felt like they sat there all day and greasy, and the chicken fingers were more like two pieces of chicken fries. We ordered here for the new year and ended up being very pleased! Ordered over the phone easily and very quickly. It only took 20 min to get our food! Also didn't feel yucky or heavy after this meal, which can happen at times. Decent sized portions, plenty for left overs. They are only doing take out during COVID. The owner, who is always there, has clearly lost any passion he had for this business. To put it simply, Teapot is not what it used to be. It is purely surviving on its location downtown. We both took 1 bite of our entrees and couldn't continue eating as the meat was gray and nasty. Usually, I don't want to give a 1 star review, because I think "Please, who's that total blowhard?" Today, I am that blowhard. I could not even eat the tuna in my tuna roll. I know bright red tuna is clearly a sign of carbon monoxide treatment, which is whatever, fine. My tuna was brownish grey. It looked like it had gone out for some fresh air and upon its return realized it forgot to bring its keys to get back into the house. And then died. Terribly, and uselessly. I ate two pieces of my eel and avocado roll, because I figured the eel was cooked, so it was probably fine. Then I figured if someone was crazy enough to put the mortally sad tuna on that plate, who knows what abominable thing might have befallen my eel. Also, one of the staff was smoking in the bathroom, so not only did I have to wait for her to finish her cigarette, I had to try to breathe through a cloud of air freshener she must have thought would hide the smoke. Do NOT order takeout delivery. Took over 2 hours to be delivered and I live 2.5 miles from the place. When I called the woman was extremely rude to me. I have been eating here for almost ten years and unfortunately the quality of their food has gone down hill. It is very disappointing. The fried chicken wings always appear old as if they have been sitting under a heat lamp in some franchise fast food place. The flavor of some of their items has diminished too. I hate to leave a bad review for a place I use to regard as more of a 4 star rather than 2 but they definitely could do better since it has been better. I write this review as I sit here and await the check. We are the only 2 people here. I also wrote this as someone who once would have RAVED about this place. Boy, has my opinion changed. The service was flat out awful. Did I mention, WE ARE LITERALLY THE ONLY CUSTOMERS HERE...? Once the food was dumped onto the table, the snotty waitress never came back to see if we needed anything. I was DYING of thirst. I placed my glass on the outer edge of our table (usually means, I need a refill) and nothing. I also needed more duck sauce and of course, since she didn't check on us, I got none. She was too busy chatting up with her co-workers, which is why she got less than 10% for a tip - and we typically tip 20-25%. Now, the food! Ugh! We ordered spider maki for sushi, which most people get as an appetizer if they also order other things. It was small and had very little flavor, and was "pasty". We are hardly sushi connesuirs, but this was just bad. We also got it with the meal and not as an app. More lousy service. We also got a pupu for 2 and pork fried rice. The pupu was small and flavorless, as was the rice. It used to be very good here... They used to have some of my favorite pork fried rice. There was literally nothing redeeming about our visit. It was lackluster, subpar, and an overwhelming disappointment. They did come to pick up our check pretty quick, so that was something. I've never been so happy to throw down $35.00, we just wanted to get out and we will not be returning. Too bad, because this used to be a GREAT place. read more

Teapot was my favorite restaurant to go to when I was a student out in the Happy Valley, and I still make trips just to go get their dumplings and cold sesame noodles. Both dishes are perfection on a plate. I only wish they'd open a Boston (or better yet, Cambridge) outpost of the restaurant. My fiancee and I were looking for a place to eat after visiting the Smith College Museum of Art (which rocked). While downtown Northampton offers a pretty diverse range of cuisine, we decided to give the Teapot a try as it seemed the least busy of any place on Main Street. We both went with Chinese (Japanese and Thai are also offered on the menu) and were very happy with both our meals and service. I used to come here almost every weekend in college. My friends and I would all go out as a group, have dinner at Teapot, and then go to some of the bars in and around Northampton. I always looked forward to those weekends. I love the Japanese and Chinese selections, and I think it's great that they offer both and do both well. I've never had any of the Thai food here, but I assume it's good. The only negative part about this place is its size. It gets packed on the weekends and it's a very small space, so it gets loud and cramped. All in all, though, it's the best Chinese food in the area. As far as Japanese food goes, I think Osaka is a bit better, but the sushi here is very good. read more
