So tried the dine out menu and a couple of appys From the tasting menu....as this place has exploded On IG and it seems hard to get a seat. Finally found out why...bec they only have space for a few people. Downstairs only has seating for maybe 20 pax plus a big table upstairs for 10 for private dining ( i was told). Foodwise, it wasnt what to expect for a french-asian fusion. The place is boasting about how their 2 asian chefs are french trained but i had not tasted anything to impress me. French cooking is all about the sauces. How the sauce brings out the flavours of dishes and takes it to new heights and gives the consumer a glimpse of both the fusion cultures. This one was more asian taste and french presentation only. Tried the prawn toast ( average) its a play on cant prawn toast..with shrimp puree laid on top of a french cracker. Dish was not fried at all and lacked shrimp flavours. Next was the shredded chicken salad with wasabi notes and served with salsa and served on yet again a french sounding french cracker. Come on, doing this does not make it a french fusion. It look like french canapés but taste was asian. The scallops with steamed spinach and pearl potatoes were excellent. In this dish, french sauces were accentuated. It was served with lemon sauce which brought the dish its french fusion. Everything was perfectly cooked. The main dish was striploin with char siu bbq sauce. ( the worst dish of the night)! All the flavours were off. For those who dont know, char siu sauce is chinese bbq sauce used for roasted pork. Its supposed to he sweet and tangy and smoky with hints of honey and maltose. When this was used on the steak, it totally killed the flavours of the seared steak. No more smokiness and beef flavours. All you taste is a weird sugary aftertaste. Think ketshup on steak almost same concept. Nothing french or French-asian about this whatsoever. The dessert was by far the next best dish. Delicate, smooth, and creamy choco mousse with mandarins and sesame crackers. The texture and flavour profile for this dish was excellent. But again, nothing french about this and no fusion. Total let down for an establishments that prides itself for french-asian fusion. Dine out should be showcasing what you got to offer and educating diners about your cuisine, hoping they would come back Whats funny is that they want to market themselves as "high end" ... the presentation looks high end, but the taste and after sales service is not. When the server asked me, how my main was, i told her the truth. She said she will speak to the manager/chef abt it. But at that moment, nothing was done abt it to rectify the situation. Any high end place wouldve immediately sent the chef or manager to talk to you and fix the problem. But here, they simply shrugged it off and even told me we hoped you come back and give us another try!? Seriously? I will not repeat. Many more places to spend you hard earned money. You want to impress on the first try...and leave a lasting memory and impression. not a bad taste in the mouth. They did have some good points as ive mentioned, but more bad than good. read more

Their most recent 'Festive Fusion' menu includes seasonal gems like squash, chanterelles, and sunchoke. Ingredients that have the magic of making one feel immediately warm & fuzzy inside. I love the way the team here takes elements of Asian flavours & reimagine them in fascinating forms, especially so in the Duck Confit dish. The way they elevated Cantonese Curry really took me by surprise, transforming this Hong Kong staple into a velvety, foamy veloute and laid it on top of duck-filled ravioli. A play on this French classic with splashes of Chinese cuisine, a homage to the roots of both chefs' backgrounds. This is merely a little snippet of the level of creativity and innovation this menu carries. The dessert ended up being my favourite dish of the evening, even though I'm usually much more of a savoury person! Perhaps it was because of the way that it worked so well as a finale to this exceptional dining experience. This sweet creation is made with a chocolatey Japanese firm style of ganache, Namelaka, tart cherries, layered between a crunchy, delicate tuile. All paired alongside slices of candied ginger on top of a scoop of tea-infused ice cream. The sour cherries balanced brilliantly with the notes of cocoa. Both the textures & flavours contrast impeccably with every bite. This is definitely a great spot for those looking to celebrate the end of the year on a special note. Such a lovely experience at Missing Chopsticks recently! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is very small and intimate, with full view into the kitchen, which was so fun to watch the chefs prepare each course.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great and it truly felt like a fine dining experience, with the utensils replaced for every course. It was also very interesting to hear the servers describe the dishes in English and in Chinese to the different tables sitting near us. I loved all the courses in the tasting menu from our visit. They were all so beautifully presented and featured unique flavour combinations. The portions for each course were also much larger than I anticipated, so overall it is quite a filling meal. I also loved the cultural fusion, with some lovely Asian touches, but not so overwhelmingly Asian like I've experienced elsewhere. Located in an industrial area next to Trove which isn't so bad for you car peeps out there! Good thing is there is plenty of parking! The restaurant is modem yet cozy with an upscale cool modern vibe to it. The kitchen is open for all to see what goes into the prep of these fine dishes. The tasting menu this month was spotted prawn lucky me and the boys! Hubby opted for the regular tasting menu as he's allergic to anything shrimp related. Since the menu will soon change as it will once a month I will just tell you that each plate is unique, the flavours are well balanced and everything was super fresh and the attention to detail is superb. Service was excellent and not pretentious. Eduardo is also a sommelier but we don't drink and he was great about it. Some are not and ignore their guests for the rest of the evening. My favourite dish this evening was the spot prawn ravioli and the prawns, duck and grilled peaches. But the two standouts were the taro foam dish as it reminded me of my moms favourite dim sum dish of steamed taro with green onions and lapchong only deconstructed. The other was the bird's nest dessert. These are both familiar in terms of classic Chinese dishes but with a modern twist that works well. Chef did an amazing job of combining French and Italian and Asian cooking! Can't wait to return. A great addition to the Richmond dining scene. It is situated on Wireless Way which is mostly offices and factories. It is a small place which offers a 5 or 6-course tasting menu. We opted for the 6-course menu, which added a plate of halibut for roughly $20 more. Our dining experience was amazing. We were greeted at the door by the owner, who made sure to ask us throughout the night how things were going. Well, thing were going absolutely well. We went in Sept and we were not disappointed with our meal. Menu is mostly Asian but with serve with a twist which elevated each dish. Our fave is the wagyu beef and the hamachi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only complaint I have will be the space, the tables are a little too close by the time we finished dinner, I know the dating history of the girls sitting next to us[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. They were not talking very loudly but because of how close the tables are, i can hear their conversation. I've been twice now and would highly recommend this place for people who enjoy fine dining modern cuisine with classic technique in a tasting menu setting. If you are looking for a traditional fining dining atmosphere or a large menu with large dishes this is not the right place for that. The space is in industrial area with a large parking lot and is a small slick space that didn't have the best acoustics. There isn't a place to wait until your reservation so don't come early. The service was good and personal. I like it when the person serving is knowledgeable about the dishes. The presentations were simple but elegant. There is a lot of French technique in the dishes with a really good knowledge of sauces. I found there to be a bit of overuse of alcohol in a few of the sauces. Alcohol should enhance the sauces not dominate them but all the dishes are really well composed. They were able to accommodate a food allergy and dietary restriction and I appreciate at that with a tasting menu at a small fine dining restaurant. I found the pricing at $198 CND for the spot prawn six course tasting menu to be more in keeping with NYC, London prices than Vancouver. This may have to do with the cost of seasonal spot prawns. The current menu is $138 which I think is more in keeping with the Vancouver high end dining scene. This is a nice fine dining restaurant for more adventurous diners who will want to go periodically as the menu changes. read more

For a small restaurant in a light-industrial neighbourhood, Missing Chopsticks puts on a good show. At $108, this 5-course menu was suitably priced for the market these days. The tartlet looked cute, but also combined the flavours of the ingredients nicely. The pâté was a big hit with my husband; it reminded him of a pâté his mom used to make when he was small. It was firm in texture, and served with lightly toasted slices of white, French-style bread. The pistachios and cranberies were a lovely touch. The third course, a scallops plate, contained beautiful, tender, big scallops and equally well-chosen squid and clams. I'm not a huge fan of clams, but these were smooth and almost creamy. The presentation, with a small zucchini medallion, a couple of black olive halves, and a lemony sauce, was well thought out. (I'm hard of hearing, and didn't catch the composition of the light-green dots scattered around the plate, but this accent sauce complimented the zucchini and squid especially well.) The main course of chicken breast was presented with a creamy stuffing under well-crisped skin, and a compliment of a small square of chicken thigh, on a bed of sautéed spinach. The jus was delicately flavoured, in deference to the lighter meat. Piped puréed potatoes topped with shavings of truffles surrounded it. Dessert was excellent: a plated piece of chocolate mousse with lots of sesame crisps and candied almond pieces. The combination of sesame with the smoothness of mousse was new to me, so I found it especially interesting. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was well prepared and presented, and came out of a clean tidy kitchen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waitress and floor manager (owner?
