It had a full kitchen, big bathroom, nice closet, and a smart TV -- super convenient and comfy. The rooftop deck was a great bonus too, with two grills and plenty of space to hang out. The hotel also has laundry facilities and gym. The location is perfect -- right across from Balboa Park, a quick drive to restaurants, and there's even a 7-eleven across the street for last-minute snacks. Parking is valet-only at $30 a night. We were fortunate enough to find free street parking every day in front of the hotel. Just a heads-up: this is a timeshare property, so be prepared for staff trying to get you to attend a 90-minute presentation. If you're not interested, just politely decline. Other than that, it was a great stay for the price and location -- I'd definitely come back!

I remember years ago they used to offer free debit cards through Wyndham, but that promotion is no longer available. I gave the hotel 3 stars because it felt like a very basic, modern property. Nothing particularly extravagant, even in the lobby. I did enjoy browsing the snacks available for purchase in the lobby.

I wanted something different; no Marriott or stuffy hotel, so I went onto vrbo.com (Vacation Rentals By Owner) and immediately fell in love with The Brighton Beach Bungalows. The reservation process was very easy; email exchange followed by a phone call, and working with Laurie and Ian was incredibly easy. They are a lovely married couple who own the two rental homes, appropriately named the "Sun" and "Surf" bungalows. Upon arrival, we were excited to see that we were about a block off of Ocean Beach, had our own garage (which is very necessary on the busy block), there were 5 or 6 cruisers for us to ride around on, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels, a beach blanket... and even a shower outside in the yard area. Once inside, the same attention to detail carried all through the house. Wifi, two TV's, every type of dish or cooking item you could ever need, ample towels, a plush, comfortable couch and incredibly comfortable bed. Everything we needed was right there for us. Even on last minute booking, the bungalows are perfectly reasonable cost wise, and the ability to cook and entertain without having to eat out every meal was fabulous. This was the perfect place to stay, and I will never stay anywhere else in San Diego again!!

On Saturday night, the fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate. We were able to return after about 10 minutes, and later learned that someone had intentionally pulled the alarm. Since we were there over Super Bowl weekend, it was extremely loud that night. We also noticed a strong smell of weed outside the lobby area. The common area is super cute with the swimming pool adorning the center and rooms along the sides. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite at no extra cost which was a nice perk. The room is basically an apartment - nice living room, dining table for 6, kitchen, a master and second bedroom and a bathroom. There is a covered patio that overlooks the tennis club and golf course and you can see a sliver of the ocean. We loved it! The bed was actually quite comfy, but more so the pillows. The kitchen came equipped with utensils, cutlery, etc and coffee. But no soap to clean so I could only rinse everything out and keep. What was a bit disappointing was that the heating only seems to be there for the living room. We couldn't find a vent in the bedroom. Also all fans have the plunger things you have to pull, which is discomforting when you are 5'1" and standing on the bed as you try to switch the fan off in the middle of the night, avoiding your head from slicing open. Loved that we had our own little apartment and didn't have to see anyone else. Check in was also through a lockbox. We will come back here for sure!!
