Took me a while to get here for some reason. Stumbled in for lunch. I love the decor. We were greeted as we walked in. Had plenty of staff, that was nice to see. Ordered our food and all of a sudden we hear an announcement and they play the national anthem. Everyone stops what they are doing (even the customers) and stand for the anthem. Never experienced that situation and I definitely liked it. The BBQ was really, really good. The sides need some love like 95% of the bbq joints. Always drove by this place so one Sunday afternoon my husband and I decided to check it out! It's a nice little spot off Congress with plenty of parking and seating. It's a Panera style restaurant where you order at the counter, find a seat, and then they call you when your food is ready. The place was covered in military decor. Everything from police badges to old military pictures, flags, and medals. They are their to support the all the men and woman that serve this country. They had the standard barbecue options pulled pork, brisket, that sort of thing. My husband got a pulled pork sandwich with mac 'n cheese as the side. You can make it a combo either XL that comes with a side and a drink or XXL which comes as two sides and a drink. I got the pulled chicken sandwich and I made mine an XXL combo because I couldn't decide between the mac 'n cheese and fries. The fries tasted like the fries you would get a a fair or a boardwalk, I loved them! My husband pointed out the Mac and cheese is a little greasy and I agreed. The Mac had breadcrumbs and melted cheese on top. He also said that the pork in his sandwich was dry and nothing special. I thought my sandwich was great. The chicken was not dry at all. Most of the flavor comes with their own sauces. There's a choice of 6, something for everyone! My favorite sauce was the Tupelo Honey which was sweet with a little kick to it. My husbands favorite was the Memphis Belle because "it tastes good". I hope his words inspire you. We washed it down with sweet tea and lemonade. Both very good and very southern. As we were eating a lady walked by to make sure everything was good. I watched her check on each table. I thought this was very courteous as most of the restaurants with this style of ordering do not check on you. She also came by later to clear our plates. I usually don't give five stars to places that serve Pepsi products because, well duh, Coke is superior. But THIS PLACE gets all the stars! I ordered a three meat xxl combo, because I wanted to try as much as I could. I got the brisket (fall apart tender), pulled pork (super smoky), and the jalapeño and cheese sausage (unreal good)! For sides, I got Mac and cheese and cole slaw. I also got an additional half pound of their regular sausage (I love me some snausage). I ordered the extra sausage incorrectly, I ordered way too much. I noticed after they boxed up my to-go order. I told them I didn't intend on ordering that much, they refunded me the extra money, AND let me keep all the sausage. The menus available as you walk in list offerings, without prices. The prices are hand written above the cash registers and staff does step out to answer any questions. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich XXL ( for $4 extra you get a beverage and 2 sides). The food was ready almost instantly, which is a good thing when you are hungry, but if you enjoy or are expecting HOT food , not so good. I was hungry so I ate the room temperature pulled pork and cold fries. (Would have been so much better if they were served hot). The baked beans were the only thing that registered above 98.6 degrees. Meats were melt in your mouth. Ask for butter and honey for your cornbread! Mac n cheese and potato salad was freshly made. Decor was very cool. Their mission is to give back to their community and veterans who've protected us. No microwaves here. Everything cooked fresh daily. The only two items of concern: we had to ask and wait for a table to be cleaned. Diningroom staff took trays, but did not make sure tables were cleaned. My meats were not served hot. I will have that again. I went back tonight to see if it was any different, on a standard night. They were equally as fast and friendly, as the first time. I had a brisket sandwich, side salad, and a drink. For being a "small" salad it was quite large and fresh. The brisket was generous, as well. Six different sauces are on the table, so there is a flavor for everyone. As a veteran that came home in 1968, it is gratifying to see the way Mission treats veterans, active military and first responders. The walls are covered with pictures of people in uniform, unit patches, airplanes and ships. It is a shrine to those who serve. Thanks Mission.
