As soon as I entered the door, 3 employees greeted me. They explained the menu and took my order. The large drink donates money to the Navy Seal Foundation. There is reserved parking for vets outside. When I picked up my order from the counter the worker thanked me for supporting the Navy Seals Foundation. Every employee who crossed my path on the way out thanked me for my purchase and invited me back. The brisket and fries were awesome! The brisket was soft, moist, and seasoned perfectly. No sauce was necessary. I did get the spicy sauce. Will try a sweet one next time. If you're in the area, stop by. And pick up some Duck Donuts next door too. read more

The Pulled pork sandwich was delicious with very little fat. My husbands brisket sandwich was very good, my daughter said it tasted like burnt ends. (Not sure what this means?) You have a choice of lean or moist brisket. He got the lean, we were told the moist has visible fat. (Yuck) , the baked beans were delicious, we did not expect chunks of beef in the beans. The Mac and cheese was very good. Of the barbq sauce choices, the Memphis belle sauce was great on the pork bbq and the Texas twang was great with the brisket. I tried Mission BBQ 3 times before I wrote a review because I really wanted to be fair because I really wanted this to be fantastic but I have to be honest. the restaurant itself is really nice, plenty of space, great customer service. The food is where I get hung up and why I can only give three starts. Each time I visited the food was different, one time there was almost no spice, one time it was way too spicy with way too much salt, and one time it was great. Each time I had as close to the same thing as possible - pulled chicken, potato salad and greens. It also comes with corn bread. It just wasn't four or five starts for me, especially with a price tag of almost $17. The portion size was just ok for that amount as well. Will I go back? I'm not sure. This review is solely based on the customer service I had while ordering for catering for my daughter's going away/graduation party. EXCELLENT!! I went online for more information on their catering menu. I signed a form and had a catering manager/employee call me back in a day or two. Karley and Nicole were amazing. I've always loved Mission BBQ, not only for their delicious food but also for their mission and patriotism. I have never had a negative encounter with staff (in fact, they're all above-and-beyond helpful) or a bad-tasting meal. My family has also gotten large catering orders from them a half dozen times at least. On my most recent visit, I had an exceptional experience I have to brag about! I wanted to grab dinner for my family, so I drove over to order in person. They have an option to call ahead and expedite the process by picking up your order through a specific carry out area. They even have parking spots designated for this. However, I was in no rush so I figured I could just order once I got there. I didn't have to regret that decision because I literally got in & out in less than 10 minutes! With a short line & three big meals to prepare, I was so impressed. I loved how the staff politely called me "Miss Mickey" and made sure I had all the sauces I needed (they're prepackaged so you just tell them which kinds you want). They also open up every box so you can make sure they got each order correct. Customer service has been even more impressive every time I've dined in. Their food is crave-able & out of this world. Every cut of meat is high quality, fresh and tender. My go-to is the brisket, but you can't go wrong with the pulled pork (or anything else) either. This time I got the coleslaw and mac & cheese as sides. I'm not even a huge coleslaw fan, but this stuff was the perfect blend of sweet and vinegary with a pleasing texture. The mac & cheese has those burnt pieces mixed in, all bursting with flavor. My entire meal was exactly what I had been craving for weeks, so I was super happy to have finally stopped in. Ordered catering in advance for a graduation party. Paid in advance and had an invoice the day I paid- a week in advance. The day of the party they had no evidence of my order. Nothing was ready at 3 pm when the invoice said it would be. They are putting something together, but it will be late and not enough of everything I ordered. Being born and raised in Kansas City, and being incredibly picky about my BBQ, I was hesitant and skeptical about giving Mission BBQ a try. After some convincing by my fiancé and our nephew, I agreed. I decided to give the 3 meat plate a try, with pulled pork, brisket and ribs. The pulled pork was a bit dry, but still flavorful. The brisket was moist and had great flavor, but the ribs were definitely my favorite! Talk about fall off the bone tender and tasty. Next time I go to Mission BBQ I will definitely get the ribs again. My favorite part of the entire meal was discovering the caramel bread pudding. Talk about delicious! I could have easily had several servings of the warm gooey deliciousness that reminded me of the bread pudding that my mother and grandmother used to make. I've been dying to try Mission BBQ out for a while now and yesterday I fulfilled my craving for Hector and I by getting takeout. This location specifically is now open near Greenbrier Woods apartments. We didn't really want to sit in for dinner yesterday, so I decided to pick up food. Since it was both our first time having it, I called ahead of time to ask if I can place a take out order over the phone. They said I could so I ordered him a Chopped Brisket sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. For myself, I had the Meat Market pulled pork with a Bay-B-Back rib and Mac n cheese as a side. My entree came with cornbread. As soon as I go in to pick up my order, I could have jumped to the take out register but it wasn't labeled, so I ended up waiting in the long line still. As soon as I paid, my food still was not ready even though they told me it would be by the time I got there. (which in this case, was 5:30pm) I'm not going to deduct points though as there's a large volume of people ordering take out and are sat inside the establishment as well. As soon as my order was ready, the man asked what sauces I wanted and I told him it was my first time getting food here so I requested to have one of each. Hehe. He immediately was happy to give me one of each. Now for the taste! Pulled pork was seasoned very well and didn't need any sauce to go with it. I wanted to try the vinegar based bbq sauce though and that worked well with the pork too without it being overpowering. The mac n cheese was so so, was not the best but edible and still had good flavor. The rib I had was my least favorite because it was dry and didn't have a lot of flavor :( so I dowsed it in the south Carolina bbq sauce, which saved it. The cornbread was a little dry but it's cornbread and it still tasted like it's supposed to. Hector's brisket was super yummy and cooked perfectly!!! I actually might get it next time because I was picking off his plate as he was getting full. Lol. He also thought the Mac n cheese was ok. Favorite sauce will have to be the Tupelo Honey Heat! Besides the brisket I ordered green beans. Now, being from the West coast our green beans are usually plain & boring. But I grew up with a grandmother from the south & bacon was ALWAYS in her green beans. This, this made me smile. I actually got the green beans to share with my 15 month Granddaughter who LOVES green beans, so she was happy! Now, their corn bread was a game changer. I was not going to eat it since I was already full from everything else. But, once again my daughter said "just try it". Yeah, it was gone before we left. I decided to come here for lunch with my husband and my son. It was jammed packed. While I waited in line my husband was able to find a seat and one of the workers offered a high chair. The line moved fairly quickly. The cashier was very quick, and very kind. She asked the write questions so I wouldn't mess up my order. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. There were workers constantly cleaning up, picking up trays, and making sure everyones food was tasting great. Consistency in cleaning is a plus for me! Coworkers and I are in town for a business trip and locals recommended us to try Mission BBQ. They have several locations but this one in Chesapeake is a new addition. They do not specialize in one region's barbecue but instead offer a broad range. It was Monday night and the line was out the door. The line moved fairly quickly and there were a lot of tables to go around. If you want to try a little bit of everything, then I'd suggest a combo. I had the one-bone baby back rib in addition to a 2-meat sampler XL combo with Texas inspired beef brisket, slow smoked pull pork, corn bread (complimentary), and Maggie's mac n cheese. I always enjoy a little fat on my meat so I was ecstatic when MB asked if I wanted my brisket moist or lean. The brisket had a good amount of fat clinging to it so it was incredibly juicy and tender. The pulled pork was comparatively leaner but still held onto its moisture. I did not necessarily need any of their sauce selections to enhance the meat, but I am particularly fond of the baja bold and Carolina vinegar. For my order, I ordered an XXL combo meal because this option allows you to have two sides, and I got the brisket as my meat and a side of mac & cheese and fries. Food: I have to say the brisket was smoked to perfection! The edges were black and crisp with a hint of pink and the meat was very moist (your girl was in love). Their mac and cheese was also very creamy and cheesy and I felt that the fries were average. I was also really happy the meal came with a complementary slice of cornbread which I was not expecting. What I also love about this place is that they have their 6 signature BBQ sauces available at every table, and it was so fun to try them all. I especially liked the Smoky Mountain sauce as it was just the right amount of tang. They also have old bay seasoning just right out there in the open as one of their condiments and what doesn't taste good with a little bit of old bay thrown on top of it?! Price: Now the meal I got was $14 including tax, so if you are dining as a couple expect to pay at least $30 and possibly $50-60 for a family of four. For a casual dining spot that has a fast food vibe, this is definitely on the pricier side but I just felt that if this were to be a sit down restaurant I wouldn't mind the price at all because the food was so good, so I can't complain! Interior: The restaurant has a very modern, rustic, divey feel to it. Decided to take my mom to dinner and wanted to try a place i haven't been to yet. I'm so disappointed I waited so long to get here! The food was really good and reminded me of a place i went to in Austin. Tender ribs, flavorful brisket, and a good sausage with the right amount of spice. Even the sides were good! Many BBQ places drop the ball on the sides that should compliment the meats but Mission did accomplish. Coleslaw had a freshness to it the baked beans complimented well. On 28th of Sep 2018. I had ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with the sides of green beans and baked beans. My wife had ordered the brisket and pulled pork with the sides of Mac and Cheese along with the potato salad. We also grabbed several sauces. The chopped brisket sandwich was moist cooked well and tasty. The flavor of the sauce and meat was balanced. The sides of green beans was done very well. It had good noticeable flavor that didn't overpower the beans. The green beans themselves had good texture and was not soggy. The other side, baked beans, tasted well but seem not that impressive. It tasted like the baked beans cans you buy at the grocery store. Overall my sides was far more desirable then my main course which is a bit concerning. Onto the course of my wife dish. The pulled pork and brisket lacked in flavor. The brisket was in short ashy. What you do to ashy skin you apply lotion. Which this brisket desperately need for both its texture and flavor. The sauce that we picked out for this brisket was a lifesaver but still a grand disappointment that it needed aid to be respectable at the least. The pulled pork was textually good but its lack in flavor made it undesirable. A healthy barrage of sauce was need to make the pulled pork tasty. Her sides of potato salad was done very well and it was by far the most desirable dishes we had. The Mac and Cheese was not good nor bad. It would be regarded as absent or a void of flavor where no flavor can exist. Her dish also came with cornbread, which tasted more like corn powder. Dry and dusty texture with little of the corn sweetness. Despite its good sides; the star of the course, which is the meat, was truly a major disappointment. Now the other factor which is just as important is price per value of the meal. For 28 dollars and some change, I believe they can do much better if they can put some quality effort vs quantity effort. If it was based solely on sauces i would have given it three or even four stars. Since it is not based on sauces, I would say it is recommend to people who simply enjoy sauces more then the main course. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and a side of fries. And my boyfriend had the pulled chicken combo which came with fries and a drink. The total came up to $20.37 which I thought was a little pricey. But the portion size was worth the money. There was so much meat on the bun that I couldn't even finish the sandwich. My only complaint would be the sauces. I wish they had just a original bbq sauce. They were not what I am used to. I would go back to mission bbq, but probably use my own sauce. read more

They are SOOOOO about the military which is sweet. I went there in uniform and they were constantly thanking me for my service. Then a week later my husband and I went in and he was wearing his uniform but I was not and they were thanking him for his service. They then turn to me and thank me for my service. I never get Mac and cheese from restaurants because it's always meh but I love how peppery it is here. First time trying Mission BBQ. I will be back on my next trip to Chesapeake. I really enjoyed the brisket and the baked beans. I didn't care for the mac & cheese. It was really bland, no seasoning at all. I am a Mac & Cheese SNOB, so that could be part of it. However; the two people I dined with didn't care for it either. The cornbread was good. Of course we all tried all of the sauces on the table, all 6 of them, plus the white Alabama sauce we picked up at the drink station. I like the Alabama sauce and I especially liked it paired with the Texas Twang. Being a Louisiana native, in Chesapeake for work, the Texas Twang and the Memphis were very familiar flavor profiles for me. Let me start by saying I'm not a bbq fan and I will NOT touch bbq sauce ... ever. Anyhow my coworker decided he wanted mission bbq for lunch and so here I landed. Looking over the menu I decided on the black plate special, a smoked ribeye. I got Mac n cheese as a side. When I get there they are putting everything together for the office and in about 5-10 minutes they had everything ready for my group of 9. I almost took one star away because they did forget a couple of sides, but we didn't get charged for them and.... the food was just amazing! The ribeye was cooked about a medium rare, was so tender, had nice bits of fat, and just melted in your mouth. The Mac n cheese was super gooey and cheesy, just how it should be and to top it all off the staff was SO friendly even considering how busy they were and limited staff with the Coronavirus.
