We were driving back home from Washington DC last weekend and took the backroads in Delaware after stopping at Dover AFB. The main road had a lot of interesting new places on it but Mission Barbecue particularly struck my interest. I love bbq and being further south than I typically am I though why not. What also grabbed my attention was the big smoker truck on the lawn with a USO design. Being that me and my father are both veterans and I always received support from the USO I knew we had to stop. So as we walk inside we see a cozy upscale fast food style place with awesome military decor all over the walls etc. That made the place amazing in itself! When I got up to the counter to order they had a great selection of all of your typical bbq food plus they also had some new ones im not used to ever seeing in New England like Cheesy potatoes, blueberry cobbler etc. I got those two sides as well as a sweet tea and pulled chicken sandwich. The pulled chicken sandwich was tender and the sweet sauce went well. The restaurant was really clean and fresh and what I would consider a chipotle styled barbecue chain restaurant. I really wish there were more of these closer to Connecticut, I would be there all of the time! read more

Ok the brisket sandwich is pretty decent. They don't have beer and with barbeque that is a shame. The cole slaw was average as was the Mac and cheese. The selection of gourmet soda was a nice touch. Outdoor seating is a place! The potato salad is the bomb! For sauces the Memphis Belle, Texas Twang and Kansas City are great the other 3 are so-so. $24.38 for two of us to eat lunch which wasn't bad! Overall enjoyable the people are very friendly! Used to love the place. Has gone downhill. Not only have they raised their prices significantly but their meats are now very fatty. Threw half of mine away. At $34 for 2 meals that is unacceptable. Ordered catering for a big BDay Party. My Daughter picked up the food and we live 30 minutes from the restaurant. She got there and the food was not quite ready. However it did not take long for it to be finished. She got to our house and i quickly realized they forgot the brisket. I have 35 people coming for dinner and had already told them I was getting brisket they sent chicken and pork instead. I called the office spoke to One of the managers they realize the order was wrong and since somebody all the way to my house with brisket to rectify the situation. Went in for lunch on the 23rd of Sept. The line was out the door yet it only took a few min's to get up and get ordered. The manager (I believe) came up and welcomed us very genuinely and explained the menu to us. We have 7 kids and later on in the meal he came over with a dessert for our kids to share! He made this trip for us. Also as someone who worked 20 years in retail upper management, he did an amazing job training on the spot with a few newer partners giving them suggestions and not orders! They screwed up my takeout order!! Why 4 stars? Because sometimes ratings are multifaceted. I ordered 5 baby back ribs, brisket sandwich & sides of slaw and green beans w/bacon. I did this over the phone and when I asked how long it would be was told that once I get there and pay they would put my order together. Kind of weird. Seems to defeat the purpose of calling up and putting a order in. Anyway, I get there, pay and they put the order together. Now, I must admit my attention was on the hockey game that was on but when I was called the gal opened up my to go boxes and I did a quick scan of it and off I went back to my hotel. When I opened my containers the ribs were there but the other box had what seemed to be a brisket dinner. No slaw or green beans but a side of mac & cheese, which I dearly wanted to avoid. Blood pressure goes up a bit and I decide to call and let them know that I did not get what I wanted. Gus answers, and seemed to be a manager and was apologetic. So much so that he offered to get me what I ordered and bring it to my hotel when he was to leave in about 10 minutes. I told him it was not necessary but I appreciated the offer. He insisted on doing this and I insisted him not to. He then told me he was going to NOT charge me and hoped that I enjoy the food that I had. This kind of service is what a customer based business is all about. Now the food, was average quality bbq. Ribs had a decent dry rub on them but no hickory or oak flavor. The brisket was tender but did not have a strong smokiness to them either. I did taste the mac n cheese and felt my arteries hardening but it was tasty. I'm not sure if I would return when back in Dover but I REALLY like they way that Gus runs a business. read more

It's like fast food barbecue, which is awesome! The staff was friendly, and the wait for food was 5 minutes. Both the boyfriend and I had the brisket, which I highly recommend. The only bad part was that I ordered two sides, baked beans and mac and cheese. I got the baked beans, but they gave me baked apples instead of mac and cheese. Totally my fault, since they do open your order in front of you when you get it to go. But the apples were a pleasant surprise! I love this place. I love the food but more than that I love what they stand for!! If you are military, police officer, firefighter, you will get the respect you deserve. I first tried mission bbq down south. I'm so happy we now have one close to home. I will make this a regular place for sure. I suggest getting the moist meat (fat) it's so good!! I'm not big on Mac and cheese but really like theirs. If you not love our men and women in uniforms and if you do not stand proud for our country, do go because you don't even deserve to walk through the doors! Just had Mission BBQ for the first time and it was delicious. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which tasted great by itself, but I added a little Memphis Belle sauce and it was even better. I've eaten here several times. The atmosphere is very laid back and it's an easy way to get your food: Order at the register and by the time you have your drinks, your food is ready. It's seat yourself. There are times when I've had to wait, but that's to be expected. Good food takes time, but this place tries very hard to not make the customer wait. The cornbread is delicious and the Black Plate special always changes...which is cool. It's like a featured menu item for a limited time. I had my office holiday party catered by this location. A good portion of my co-workers hadn't been to Mission yet...The food was late (but I was apologized to over and over, plus the delivery person called me with an update as to why it was late), but it was hot, fresh and enough for 60 people...we only had 30! I've seen reviews that state that the food is "bland". I like bbq...I actually LOVE bbq...true bbq is served with the sauces on the side and mildly seasoned, so to me, they nailed it. Pulled Pork Pulled Chicken Brisket Ribs... Kids meals... I definitely love the baked and green beans! They do cater to nearly every taste. I got the three meats combo and upon the total I asked the young lady if they do military or veterans discounts. Her answer was no. Dover, Delaware location has the best employees! These folks go out of their way to provide the best customer service. I don't think I've ever left there without this feeling that I've received the best over-the-top service. Oh...and their food is pretty good too. I love their brisket. This is a review of my second visit. First visit was good -- babyback ribs were tender and meaty and seasoned nicely. I have already recommended the place to a bunch of friends. Won't be doing that in the future. Second visit, very much a let down. I picked up a to go order, just a five bone babyback, and when I got home I found that it was the very tip of the ribs. Five count, but three of which are so small and meatless that they shouldn't be counted at all. These ribs were dry and tough, and it seemed like they'd been reheated from earlier in the day. Extremely salty like someone had reseasoned them and popped them into the oven to "revive" them. The cornbread, which was great on my first visit, also seemed to be reheated. It was very dry and just really a bunch of crumbs. It had been wrapped in aluminum foil and I could see the imprints of the fingers of the person who had squished it while wrapping it. After a few bites I gave up on the ribs and actually didn't try to eat the pile of crumbs which was supposed to be cornbread. This for $10. I guess if you catch them on a good day you'll get a good meal, but I would advise checking your to go orders so they don't foist something off on you that you wouldn't pay for dining in. Very disappointed, probably won't be back, probably won't recommend, either. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is the best BBQ in Dover. But that's not a tall mountain to climb. The other BBQ outfit in Dover should really be in the shoe repair business. read more

Stopped here on a road trip. This was our first experience with this chain, and we were blown away by the incredibly friendly and helpful staff! This rating is from the Sobers Family, we were having our first family vacation in this state and decided to eat here. The atmosphere is historical, to see the many different fire fighters, navy seals, just overall the many ppl whom served and protected our country was amazing to see around the restaurant. THE FOOD is good but the CORNBREAD is one of my favorites its real cornbread!!!! Not from a box either sorry Jiffy... the staff was respectful and welcoming and the manager made us feel like we were her family, she came out and talked to not only our large group but many ppl around the restaurant, she made us feel good. Finally checked out this new BBQ joint after hearing about it from all my friends. Can't believe I waited this long! Great food at an affordable price. Sandwiches come with a healthy share of meat, well seasoned. If you want some more flavor, they've got sauces right there on the table (I suggest Smoky Mountain). The whole staff was friendly and very helpful. We were made to feel very welcome. I don't know if the owners are veterans or not, but they clearly demonstrate a lot of support for service members, as well as PD and FD. Great environment!
