This rating is from the Sobers Family, we were having our first family vacation in this state and decided to eat here. The atmosphere is historical, to see the many different fire fighters, navy seals, just overall the many ppl whom served and protected our country was amazing to see around the restaurant. THE FOOD is good but the CORNBREAD is one of my favorites its real cornbread!!!! Not from a box either sorry Jiffy... the staff was respectful and welcoming and the manager made us feel like we were her family, she came out and talked to not only our large group but many ppl around the restaurant, she made us feel good. Finally checked out this new BBQ joint after hearing about it from all my friends. Can't believe I waited this long! Great food at an affordable price. Sandwiches come with a healthy share of meat, well seasoned. If you want some more flavor, they've got sauces right there on the table (I suggest Smoky Mountain). The whole staff was friendly and very helpful. We were made to feel very welcome. I don't know if the owners are veterans or not, but they clearly demonstrate a lot of support for service members, as well as PD and FD. Great environment! I almost never actually make posts about restaurants unless they are really bad or over the top good. Mission BBQ is the best. It is my new favorite joint. My wife asks what I want for dinner, it's safe bet I am saying Mission BBQ to the point my daughter groans. I highly recommend the brisket, go lean. The beans are also the best I have ever had, with brisket and a nice smoked flavor. I have also never imagined I would comment on tea, but even the iced tea is possibly the best I have ever had. Portions are more than I can handle in one meal too. Also, they are huge supporters of military, vets, police, and firefighters, which is an added bonus. Don't miss trying this place out! read more

This restaurant is fair. In my opinion, the ribs are underdone. The sweet potato was rubbed with oil and honey but I would prefer it with cinnamon. The salad was good. read more

I got carry out (1/2 lb lean beef brisket, 1/2 lb moist beef brisket, 1 lb pulled pork) and loved them all. The sauces are all on the side (I had NC vinegar and Alabama white) so you can taste the meat seasoning first and control on how much sauce to slather on. Meat was seasoned perfectly and moist. Lean beef brisket was a little led moist because there's less fat but it still had great flavor. The only thing I missed was having Texas toast, raw onions, pickles and pickled jalapeños to accompany my BBQ but it wasn't anything I couldn't pull out of the fridge in a few minutes. I've been a customer since the very first day they opened. Great food and friendly front staff. However,if you are a woman, especially a professional woman that travels for business; do not go to this restaurant. You will be treated rudely and with contempt. Very different from how they treat their male customers or families. Females wearing military clothing hopefully fair better. I travel the state on business, often by myself. I am friendly and polite, always smile and say please and thank you. The staff walk around asking customers if they would like their drink refilled, extra cornbread, how's the meal, do you need a to-go container. In all my visits, included last week, I have never had 1 employee offer me anything. The mostly female staff stops at every table all around me that have a man at the table, but they ignore me. Outrageous! There was single man, one table away from me, the employee made several stops at his table, bypassing me. I guess they hope men will tip?? Finally, I had enough and asked to speak to a manager. They were having a manager meeting and the General Manager was there. I started the conversation with compliments, and then shared what I just experienced. He said it was my fault!! What!!! He ignored me and when he walked back to his table, he rolled his eyes; oh no you didn't! The GM never asked any staff to assist me. There are hundreds of eating establishments in Dover; go anywhere else. Back to opening day at Mission, received 3 slices of brisket. Noticed other customers had plates with much larger portions. Thought they would want to make a good impression, but they may have first day glitches. Approached manager and she implied that I was trying to get free food!! Just wanted what I paid for. Manager very begrudgingly gave me a couple more slices. Few minutes later, same manager was walking around with a tray of plates of meat, saying to male customers, "Noticed you didn't get the proper amount of pork, brisket. Kitchen is supposed to weigh, so here is the rest of your meal." WOW! Did the manager apologize to me, no. Enough is Enough! read more

A bit pricey for lunch but good amount of food. Turkey/pork/chicken are the ones I have tried all good, some times dry some times moist. Mac n cheese is the bomb!. Corn bread hit and miss depends on who's cooking them. The best BBQ pork sandwich I've ever had was in NC in a small restaurant, at Mission I tried the pork and their NC vinegar sauce it was not as good but still decent. read more

From Ohio traveling to the area. Came with a party of 12. I had the three meat sampler. Food actually tasted great. Mac and cheese was awesome, corn bread was tasty. Went well with the baked beans that had actually pork meat in it. Got the baby back ribs falling off the bone, classic sausage was good. The casing snaps when you bite it like well made sausage should. And the brisket was not dry. The sauces are ok. Nothing earth shattering with the sauces and the smoke flavor in the meats carried a mint taste. Not what I expected but wasn't bad. The gist of my feedback is the food is pretty good. BBQ places are always hit or miss and Mission BBQ was a good experience. The services was good. Plates were promptly prepared. Food warm, drinks cold. No complaints. Very good experience. read more

After reading the great reviews, my wife and I decided to give it a try today. We went shortly after they opened....good thing since it became quite busy by the time we left. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. Me, on the other hand, was a bit more robust and ordered the 2-meat combo (chicken & pork)....and for a few bucks more, got slaw and fries as a side. It was delicious and the servings very generous. I'm a big guy at 6'4" and 250 lbs. and I was barely able to finish my meal. Oh yeah....prices are quite reasonable....a bargain for all you get. We were there at noon when they play the National Anthem...everyone stood up, hands over their hearts, sang along. What a nice patriotic touch.... We'll be back!!! read more

Went here last night for the first time and we enjoyed it immensely. It's about time Dover got another BBQ place besides Where Pigs Fly (which is terrible and low quality). I especially enjoyed the brisket, piled high with meat on a butter grilled bun. The choice of sauces is great, reminds me of a BBQ place in Jacksonville, FL I used to visit quite a bit when I was stationed in Mayport. I like having multiple choices of BBQ sauce instead of whatever the house may put on it's BBQ. The baked beans were great, reminded me of my own, very rich and deep flavor with a hint of smoke. The mac & cheese was tasty and the French fries were real potatoes which is always a plus if you like French fries. The service at the counter was excellent and the staff was very attentive and responsive to our requests. I especially enjoyed the atmosphere of catering to active military, veterans and Police and Fire departments. Most definitely on the list of places in which to return time and again. read more

Will never go back. Everything is so salty. A friend had the brisket, she said it was 90% salt, and 10% meat!

The sandwich came with a nice amount of meat. I had the pulled pork and my wife had the brisket sandwich. We did not get a side besides the fries. Both sandwich's were luke warm to cool at best. The selection of sauces at the table were sticky and I had to go wash my hands before I began my sandwich, needless to say by that time it was cold. The salt,pepper etc is located in a tool box towards the front of the store. Again had to grab a sticky drawer to get some salt. All in all, the place has a nice atmosphere and has potential, but at this time I will not be a returning customer. There were no fresh fries being made, even though they were busy and there are 5-6 deep fryer's with nothing in them. The meat should somehow be kept warm versus being chopped up waiting on the chopping board and allowing it to cool completely before being used. Hopefully the owners and employee's will take note of this and make some minor adjustments. My wife did address these issues with the manger before we left. read more
