I had the most pleasant experience at Mission BBQ. When we walked in, I was quite taken back on the decor- it was first responder badges from all over the place, and I loved it. Mission BBQ were also clearly supportive of our 9/11 first responders, as they were raising money and have signs that they are giving away free food to them on 9/11. The two employees we interacted with were lovely- so kind and helpful! The food- omg was it good. We got the brisket, pulled pork, and jalapeño and cheese sausage, Mac and cheese, and string beans. It also came with corn bread. We loved it all, and I especially enjoyed that they had six kinds of bbq sauce at each table. That was fun! You can't leave this place without feeling patriotic. I was feeling very carnivorous this day and I enjoyed every bite of my pulled pork sandwich! The service is amazing, they even gave free samples of cornbread with the order. The staff is super welcoming especially since it was my first time. The decor and lighting is also very nice, i don't always appreciate the LED lights everywhere so I'd come and lunch here for focus work honestly. Outdoor seating is available too (just beware of the bees) They break down the menu if you're new, and the combo is what i got because i had to try the Mac and Cheese. Mission BBQ is awesome, and this trip was the reminder that I needed! I did not know what to get, so after staring at the menu for some time.. I decided on shrimp and salmon with mac&chz. I'm not really sure what Mission BBQ do for their recipe, but the consistency is unmatched! It's not too soupy, too noodl-y, etc. Just good! Vibe: Stopped by Mission BBQ for lunch. The place was clean, organized, and welcoming staff. Food: I had the Yard Bird, two-meat sampler with turkey and pulled chicken, and greens. The yard bird was flavorful( ending up eating for dinner), definitely eat the breast while it's hot though, because like most chicken breast it starts to dry out if it sits. The pulled chicken was tender and well seasoned. The turkey might've stolen the show, very moist and flavorful. The greens were pretty good too, and they're meat-free which I appreciated because I don't eat pork or beef. Service / Timing: Food came out quickly and everything was fresh. This is my first time trying mission BBQ and I must say I'm pretty impressed. All of the meat seem to be of high quality. They are not inexpensive, but no Good quality protein is these days ( just stopped by your local grocery store). I tried the pulled pork, pulled chicken brisket and sliced turkey. As a healthy low fat low carb option, the sliced turkey breast is delicious. I was quite impressed by all of the meats I tried. As far as sides go. I really like Mission BBQ. The food is always fresh. The counter and most of the store is always clean. The people, the people, the people... that team is ALWAYS bubbly and pleasant. I've been to the Greenbelt location, probably 8 times. I've had all of the sides and all of the meats. I give it four instead of 5 stars for two reasons. Came to this location for the first time for lunch. I ordered the 2 meat sampler with jalapeño cheddar sausage, moist brisket, and 2 sides of mac n cheese and green beans. Total came out to around $20. I came with a couple of friends and we sat outside. What's hot - Quality. Pretty delish! I've been to Mission BBQ in different locations, in different states, and this location does not disappoint. I really like their moist brisket, because it's more tender and flavorful. Their jalapeño cheddar sausage does have a little bit of a spicy kick, as well, which is nice. Their corn bread is slightly sweet and moist, which adds to the flavor and quality. One of my friends ordered their roast chicken, which looked good! The skin looked well-seasoned and the meat looked moist and tender. - Location. Pretty convenient, especially because they have outdoor seating, which is nice when there's nice weather. Be prepared to hear regular traffic noise, including sirens, though. Their bbq sauces are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. - Health and safety. A few of their staff were wearing face masks and there was hand sanitizer available, which is very important. - Price. Pretty reasonable, given the portions and quality. For a 2-meat sampler with 2 sides, $20 is pretty good. If you buy more meat, it'll cost more, but the quality of their meat is pretty good and worth the money. - Portions. Pretty good value for money and enough to get you full. My friends had leftovers to hold them over, as well. - Service. While we were there, I saw many large pick up/catering orders. The staff came out on a regular basis with many large orders on push carts and loaded customers' cars accordingly. From what I could see, the staff appeared to be on top of the large orders. What's not - Health and safety. During this time of the pandemic, not all of their staff were wearing face masks. To be fair, health and safety regulations vary depending on your location, but I personally find it reassuring when businesses that interact with the public take precautions. - Service. They don't have Apple Pay, which can be inconvenient. If you sit outside, be prepared to be left alone. The time our group was there, one of their staff checked in on us once. On the one hand, that's not a bad thing. On the other hand, be prepared for things to be mostly self-serve. I am a die-hard fan of the Waldorf,Md. location, but the greenbelt location is closer to me, so I tried them out....Ok, so I got the black plate special and fries. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't seasoned at all. The special was a Rib Eye steak. I had to keep dipping it in the sauce for flavor. Now on the other hand Waldorf Rib eye was succulent, smokey, and so tasty, I didn't really even use the Hawaiian sauce it was so delicious. So I'm sticking with Waldorf, sorry greenbelt. read more

I love Mission BBQ! They have the best brisket and I used to visit frequently when I lived in Greenbelt although I haven't been in awhile since I moved away. My dentist is still in Greenbelt so after my visit today, I decided to grab some lunch. I got my usual, the brisket sandwich with Maggie's Mac 'N Cheese. The brisket is just like I remembered...tender and so, so juicy but the mac n cheese seems to have gotten an upgrade! During my last visit back in 2019, my mac n cheese had some issues and I expressed my dissatisfaction on their website. I was promptly contacted by the Director of Operations, Community Ambassador and get this...ONE OF THE FOUNDERS! They apologized for my experience, assured me it would be improved and offered me a gift card. Never in all my days has any restaurant or establishment taken the time and consideration to reach out to me about a negative experience the way Mission did. That shows me their phenomenal customer service and that they care about the people that spend their hard earned money in their stores and that is HUGE for me. If I need a fix for bbq this is my go to spot... being from midwest and Texas it's about as close as I'm going to get without having to take a flight home. I prefer the brisket moist and the chicken for meat and the bbq baked beans are always a solid win. I also appreciate their large selection of sauces a solid nod for bbq around the country. My fav sauce randomly enough is the tupelo honey, Texas twang, and bay b que (couldn't resist their respect for MD bay seasoning).
