Inside of the building is really clean, and nice looking with a few tables and chairs. Heard about this place from many of instagram and tik tok users and wanted to see what all the hype was about. I really wanted a good cheesesteak so I decided to come and try them out . It's a nice little restaurant style place with option indoor dining if you choose. The woman who took my order was nice and courteous. I had no problems ordering what I wanted which is a plus I'm very picky about my sandwiches. The restaurant makes your sandwich made to order so be prepared to wait a while. I added banana peppers. My wife had the Philly as well, but ordered provolone cheese instead of cooper; and then she added mayo, lettuce and tomatoes; in Philadelphia we call that a cheese steak hoagie. The cheese steak was smaller than I expected, but plenty of meat for the size. However, we both thought it was more on the bland side. It didn't taste bad, it just wasn't flavorful without adding the mustard and ketchup. The french fries were very good; the kind of fries you put malt vinegar on. A decent portion, but not like those hamburger joints that give you too many fries and you feel like you have to eat them all; especially if you lack will power. I'm trying to eat less red meat in the new year but there was one meal still lingering on my culinary short list for 2023- a cheesesteak from Tokoa, one of the newest additions to the Baltimore Ave strip in College Park. I was able to place an order via their website for pickup. The time estimate said 25 mins, but it was ready with 15, so bonus points there. I unfortunately didn't dine in, but they have ample seating for small groups and/or individuals if that's what you choose. There's also light music playing in the background, so the vibe isn't awkward or anything. This block of Rt 1 can be tricky in terms of parking, but depending on the time of day, the office park a block up has space for parking and seems perfect quick pick up if you don't want to fool with the usual traffic and hassle of crossing the street. In terms of food: I requested my fries extra crispy, and they were perfect. They're the kind of fries that can be eaten alone or be elevated by a dipping sauce. I also ordered the large TK Cheesesteak with no modifications. First things first, this thing is huge and definitely enough for two servings. Secondly, it was absolutely delicious. Finally had a chance to stop here! My original plan was a restaurant two doors down, but they are on Summer break! Two of my favorite local restaurants did that this year, and I don't recall noticing them doing that in previous years. Mind you, they are well deserved, because everyone deserves a vacation. I stepped into this place, and saw the Tokoa sign to the left, and then straight ahead was where you place your order and see the menu up above. They have plenty of cheesesteaks to choose from! And they also have some sides, drinks, and desserts. I decided to get the jalapeno cheesesteak, and I waited about 10 minutes or so. There was only one other party sitting in there at one of the five or so tables, so I just claimed an empty one and chilled. Also, it was scorching outside, so it was nice to be inside in an air conditioned establishment. The cheese steak came, and honestly I was ready to just take it home and eat it then, but I had some time to kill because I had a pickup order at a cafe ticket, so I ate it in the restaurant. It was everything that I had hoped for. Love the texture of the bread, and love the flavor of the steak, cheese, and everything else going on. I need to explore more of the menu now, and that will be happening soon. They have been circulating on social media a lot lately, so I'm glad that I could finally check it out. We live close by CP area and wanted to give this place another chance. If we didn't get subs this good this time, then we I would only give 4 stars. We've tried this place 3x. First time was epic- gigantic pickle on my cheesesteak?! Heck yes! Sign me up! The second time, there were hardly any toppings- what- disappointment! And the third time made up for the second. The taste and toppings were there but the first time was really the best. The meat is flavorful and plentiful and the bread is soft, doesn't break down when you squeeze the sub. Bottom line, Tokoa is a good cheesesteak spot. It is reminiscent of Philly cheesesteaks. Their owners, I believe, have experience with Philly-style cheesesteaks which has inspired some of their menu. They do the seeded role and Cooper White American cheese which are staple ingredients in some of the more competitive Philly cheesesteak shops. The customer service here is OK. Tokoa could be a 5* cheesesteak spot for the DMV, however, they can be inconsistent at times with their quality and portions. I do like how they slather garlic butter inside of their rolls. Also, I like how their containers are just the right size to hold the cheesesteaks. There is seating on the inside of the restaurant. There is no street parking outside of this restaurant, however, there is garage parking around the corner. The steak and cheese is by far the best I have had in the DC area. They use premium ingredients and take their time preparing your sandwich. They have other items on the menu, but there is a reason why everybody is traveling here for their steak and cheese. It is just plain delicious , the only drawback I can give in this review is you will have to park a couple blocks away and give the meter some money because there is no on site parking.
