I was starving after playing full tournament of volleyball so I ordered a full sandwich with fries and Mac and cheese and I couldn't finish my meal. But it was good quality comfort food. They didn't skimp on the portion of pork in the sandwiches. I appreciated the variety of sauces you can try. Making sure to ask the counter for the white Alabama sauce. We are on vacation in the state of Virginia and discovered Mission BBQ. This is our favorite restaurant so far. The baby back ribs are the best we have ever had. The sides are major comfort, baked beans, green beans, Mac and cheese, and more. Everything is reasonably priced and so delicious. Oh and we had the peach cobbler for my 60th birthday. Today I am having a nice big green salad with Mac and cheese for lunch and iced tea. I highly recommend Mission BBQ for all ages. Love the music they are playing in the restaurant too! Just a note to say thank you to Mission BBQ for its Armed Services Appreciation Week, during which it provided free sandwiches. Each day of the week was dedicated or linked to one of the Armed Services. I am a Coast Guard veteran, so we went to one of our local Mission BBQs in northern Virginia today (5/17). So, thank you in general to MBBQ for its generosity. We went to the local restaurant located in Herndon, VA. We had never eaten there before. We both immediately noticed how impeccably clean the restaurant was. We also saw that the restaurant was decorated with pictures and memorabilia from all of the Services. It was very patriotic. I loved it. We were greeted by an employee named Shalette. She had a great personality and thoroughly explained the menu, as well as the options for the Armed Forces Week offer. She thanked us for our service. She also gave us a heads-up that it was 1158, and that the National Anthem would be sung in 2 minutes, as is done promptly at noon every day. Again, I love that. It was very respectfully done, and all of the staff and patrons rose to their feet and placed their hands over their hearts; most of us sang along. The food was delicious. As we finished our meals, Shalette stopped by to see how we were doing. She was very kind and personable. I would heartily commend Mission BBQ, as well as this particular restaurant (David Amnathvong), and especially Shalette for making this a very positive experience. We will definitely be back. Really good, first time at Mission BBQ in Virginia. Have been to locations in Maryland and Texas in the past. Also, first time eating inside a Mission BBQ restaurant. Got there right before noon and was surprised that everything in the restaurant stops to hear the national anthem. I've worked in places where that occurs, but never in a restaurant. I got the 2 meat platter with a drink and a side. I opted for moist brisket and pulled pork and mac and cheese. The meat was moist and flavorful and didn't even need sauce, though I tried the Maryland sauce with some Old Bay in it. It was tasty and not very hot which is what I was looking for. We sat out on the patio and it was very nice and breezy. Service was quick and our food was ready within 5 minutes of ordering. Also, the cornbread was really good, and moist and was a nice addition to the meal. Highly recommend a visit here. read more

A wonderful addition to the clock tower shopping center. Better BBQ has taken the place of formerly, Red Hot and Blue. This location has a similar layout to their location in Columbia, MD. That location was the first ever 'Mission BBQ' I've been to. The layout, along with the military and police memorabilia, reminds me of that first location. The BBQ itself is good, not extravagant. The brisket was moist when I visited. The pulled pork was a bit bland. The jalapeño sausage tasted better the following day when I heated it up at home. The ribs were good. The cornbread is the better side. I do like the variety of sauces. Even though the pulled pork was kind of bland, it tastes great with the tupelo honey heat (nice sweetness) and bay-b-que (tastes of old bay for the MD in me) sauces. Their mustard sauce tastes good with their sausage. I thought they were over-staffed. I came during dinner time so they're probably the most busy during the lunch hours. The servers were so friendly, helpful and good with kids. Speaking of kids, this place is family friendly. Even though the BBQ isn't my favorite, I like how my little one can eat with other little ones, color with the crayons and coloring material they provide, and make a mess in a non-pretentious environment. read more

It has set up shop inside the space which previously held another small BBQ chain: Red, Hot, and Blue. It is a very fitting narrative, where I have seen the former tenants retract and close down locations, Mission is growing and doesn't show any signs of stopping. It's for good reason- Mission knows how to serve a good meal with a consistently good variety of meats, sides, and their signature variety of sauces. If you are a local 9-5er like me then Mission should be added to your lunch rotation. Mission is continuing to carve out a place in DC's crowded BBQ scene as a growing chain to take note of. My friends ordered for me so I didn't know exactly what I got, but I all the cuts of meat were super tender and I loved trying all the sauces. The service was fast and all the employees were nice. We were greeted when we walked in. Placed a quick order for a 2 meat plate chicken and brisket and a side salad. It came with corn bread. Everything was really really good. Super flavorful, fresh and right on the money. I got lean brisket and which I would've gotten the other one but I'll be back to try it soon. Cornbread was awesome! I love Mission BBQ, and almost everyone I went to delivers quality, great tasting meals. I'm so glad this one opened only a few minutes from our home. As much as I would have loved to eat in there, since I love the military and service member decor, I did a phone order and contact-less pickup. Last week I ordered food from a nearby restaurant for a company event, and when I got there they told me they were not able to complete my order, after I received confirmation and had already paid. In a panic, knowing I had a company event in one hour I had no idea what to do. I went into Mission BBQ, and Joey greeted me and quickly jumped into action to complete an order for me! Great experience here today from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. There were two young men working the registers and they were both polite, friendly, and welcoming which really set the tone for the experience. The food was delicious (as usual) and was up quickly which was great since we have small children. The portions were all a really good size and the price points are affordable. Another thing I noticed which I really liked is that the manager on duty was super engaged with his staff and with the overall process/guest experience. He helped me carry some trays out to our table and was very personable and made sure we had everything we needed. This is the second time that my wife and I have been to this Mission BBQ location and IT WILL BE THE LAST TIME we'll go there. Some of the employees there are rude & have an attitude problem. While I was picking up our food at the counter by myself, a white female employee was showing what was in each carry-out box to confirm our order; initially her tone was quite kind and energetic while explaining all this to a me (I am also white). However, when my wife, who's Asian approached the checkout area and stood next to me (didn't say a word) just to see what was going on, the female employee's tone & expression changed immediately to angry & serious & the employee made it a point to only make eye contact and communicate directly at me & in my direction. As far as I was concerned, it is quite difficult not to find what has transpired as offensive & possibly racist behavior. My wife did absolutely nothing wrong to offend her. And the employee knew I had a wife from the moment we walked into the restaurant together. Also, my wife is an Asian American who is native to Northern Virginia. she has lived in VA her entire life and she doesn't come across this type of offensive & ignorant behavior often so when it does happen we will be sure do to society a favor & call it out.
