My Fiancee and I stopped in yesterday for V-day lunch. We talked to Mission a week prior about catering our wedding. So, this was as much a date as it was a trial tasting. The food was all cooked very well. Even turkey which typically dries out - was very juicy and smokey. The selection of sauces; all were different and flavorful. The staff was very kind and apologetic for the long wait. It took us almost 20 minutes in the line. Which we joked about with Abigail at the counter. The best part of the experience was the service as the staff were very friendly and they stopped at 12:00 noon to sing the national anthem as they do everyday - I can see why veterans like this place so much. This restaurant supports veterans and they register you so you get notified of special events. I had the pulled chicken sandwich and baked beans, my wife had the Turkey sandwich. The chicken was overflowing the bun and I tried all the sauces, St Louis was my favorite, a little sweet and tangy. The turkey was also plentiful and tasty. Prices were high by my standards but probably what is standard these days... $13ish for meat or sandwhich and sides are $3-4. We paid $38 for 2 meals, 2 sides and a drink. The place was clean and decorated nicely. Bathrooms were single person use. It was cold in there (my wife said). I thought it was ok. Came in for a work lunch the other day with some co workers and was surprised with the military and police decor I wasn't aware that was their theme, I liked that and thought it was pretty cool! They had a great selection of their bottled drinks displayed right when you walk in, one unique drink they had was Yoo-Hoo, another positive in my book! They have a good selection of meats , everything you'd expect from a bbq joint, pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken and jalapeño links. I got a two meat combo with two sides. Got the lean brisket , it was good but a bit too dry, I guess I could try the regular cut next time, pulled chicken which was also kinda dry, but both had a good taste. Overall I think it's very difficult to find any good BBQ in Michigan so this place is definitely a good option if you're craving bbq! Nothing to write home about but I will definitely be back. I know brisket can be hit or miss, but this time it was some of the best I've ever had! Moist without being too fatty and seasoned very nicely. It was also a very generous portion for the price. The selection of sauces is the best of any BBQ place I've ever been to. They were ALL very solid. Mac and cheese was a solid B+ but the fries were cold and over seasoned. It can be really hard to get fresh cut fries right. These were not right. To get high moisture potatoes like these crispy, you need to fry them twice. I would prefer frozen fries cooked properly over these. Cornbread, well.... I saw a lot of uneaten, dry cornbread on people's trays. Biscuits would be a great upgrade. I know their business model revolves around military and first responder personnel (which is completely awesome!), but the decor of patches and stickers everywhere has gotten out of control to the point of being kind of distracting to the dining experience. Superior food, and amazing tasty BBQ, and great sauces are what define this restaurant chain. The decor is All American pro military and pro public safety services. Although a bit pricey perhaps compared to other places the high quality food and excellent management are well worth the price and worth interacting with. Both female managers I interacted with were amazing and one gave us four free sandwich card as I mentioned we were first time customers. I apologize as I forgot their names as our visit was before Labor Day. The long drive of 30 minutes was well worth the trip. If you are hankering for great BBQ this is a great treat. We tried everything they had and traded dishes so we all sampled everything between three of us. We were staying nearby and wanted an early dinner since neither of us had really had lunch that day. We arrived around 4:30pm and there was no line. Customer oriented and friendly service. We receded a nice and very friendly welcome. Restaurant is roomy and a great BBQ ambiance. We had take out for Saturday lunch. The brisket was very good and was a Texas style. Would definitely recommend them. Of the sauces, we liked the KC Classic the best. The baby back ribs were not great and seemed to have been cooked a few days before. I probably wouldn't have the ribs again. Both countries came with a big piece of cornbread which was just ok. Staff staff staff! Holy crap the staff was amazing and absolutely the highlight of the visit. We came with a pretty big group of coworkers for lunch on a weekday and we were very well taken care of. As we were ordering individually, we were asked if it was our first time eating here, which is was for me and one other coworker. I thought they were going to just explain the menu but they went above and beyond and welcomed us with some chocolate chip cookies. It was a very thoughtful gesture. For my entree, I got the pulled chicken with mac and cheese and green beans on the side. I wish the meal plates would come with a side, you have to get it separately. The meal plate did come with some cornbread though. The chicken, green beans, and the mac and cheese were alright. On the tables there's six different types of BBQ sauce, seven if you include the vinegar. None of them were really speaking to me, but they're different enough where you will likely find one for you. Came to Detroit for a football game and a baseball game this weekend. This restaurant is nearby our hotel and Costco, so we went in. Very impressed about the decoration inside of the restaurant. I ordered full rack/10 bones with cold slaw, they were amazing! The meats just slipped from bones as the moment I picked them up. Cold slaw was fresh, not too much sauce, PERFECT !!!! Mission is a very good chain BBQ place. It's consistently good. The meat and sides are served a la carte, but you can get a sandwich and make it a combo. The first time I went, I tried brisket, ribs, collards, and Mac. You know it's already ahead of the game when they let you choose from fatty or lean brisket. I love that they don't cook their meat in the sauce. You don't really need the sauce at all, but if you want to make it lean towards a more regional style of bbq, they have several options of sauce to choose from. The second time, I had the yard bird half chicken. It was moist and tasty. They also give you a piece of cornbread. They have Pepsi products, but their lemonade and tea is stand out! They have a rotating special entree. One time we went it was a burger and the next it was bbq shrimp. They have a main menu of sides that don't change, but they have a couple of seasonal sides that they do rotate. Their customer service is excellent. Both times we went, someone came by and asked how we were doing and how the food was, even though it's not a restaurant where you have a server. read more

I've been to a few different Mission BBQ locations, and I live right by the Troy one. If you sign up for their email list, they send you a free sandwich coupon after Christmas every year and also for your birthday. I had the Christmas coupon to use so my boyfriend and I stopped here tonight for dinner. I got my free pulled pork sandwich and he got the meat combo plate, which includes two meats, a fountain drink, and a side; he chose the cheddar jalapeño sausage and brisket, along with cheesy potatoes. I've had the pulled pork sandwich before and it's very good, plus I really like MBBQ's sauces - the Smoky Mountain and Memphis Belle are my two favorites. His brisket was very good too, but the sausage was a bit too spicy for me. The cheesy potatoes were also very good. Pulled pork (1 meat, no sides) starts at $8ish here and brisket goes up to $12ish, with sandwiches being cheaper. They also have chicken and turkey options. I'll be back sometime in January with my birthday coupon but I may get a brisket sandwich that time, since the brisket was really good. MBBQ hires veterans, too, which is also nice, and also honors veterans; I forget if there's a discount or not though. read more

As a Texas resident - BBQ in other areas is never quite right. However, This is a decent option when traveling in the Detroit area. I didn't realize it was a chain - so I've actually been to 2 of these in the area. The brisket & sausage were the 2 best meat options. The pulled pork wasn't my favorite. The greens were amazing!! Corn bread was great too. The sweet tea is brewed (not the Nestea fountain crap). If you're not familiar, the restaurant is "First responder" & military themed. Chicken is good. No weird bone or cartilage which is my huge pet peeve. Not dry, even without sauce. Turkey is nice. It had the most smoke flavor for my palate and again was not dry at all despite it being white meat. The smashed potatoes are delicious. They look like hell and like they'll be bland and dry but they were easily the best side. My husband had sweet tea. I had unsweetened. Delicious, both versions. I added some of their store made lemonade to my refill of tea for a Arnold Palmer-ish deal and that was awesome too. The meh: The sausage is just ok. A bit tough and a bit bland. Went to Mission BBQ on a rainy Monday night. Not a lot of people in the fairly spacious restaurant. This is one of those places where you order at the counter & they call your name when your order is ready (in about 3 minutes!). It did have a kind of fast-food feel about it because of that, but I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I got pulled pork and brisket, both of which were good -- except that I couldn't tell one from the other. Yet, I enjoyed them both! I also got a side of cole slaw which was pretty much perfect for my taste -- a bit sweet but also a bit tangy. My sister and her boyfriend both got the ribs and they enjoyed them as well. I tasted the baked beans, and those also were good. This place is MUCH better than, say, Dickey's (although it doesn't have free ice cream nor the specials like Dickey's does). I ordered the 2 meat sampler, 1/4 pound of chicken and 1/4 Turkey with the beans and collard greens, 3 side salads with Italian dressing, Turkey and sausage with potato salad and fountain drink, signature salmon with Mac and cheese and cole slaw. The salmon is okay, bit dry. The collard greens are bland. The cornbread is super dry. The salad is okay. The pulled chicken isn't bad. The Turkey slices are too few and dry like the dessert. The beans are good. The jalapeño and cheese sausage wasn't too bad. The food overall was so-so. All of the meat and proteins were way too dry. $53.94 total. read more

I've been to two different Mission BBQ's and they seem the same. Definitely a military influence in decor and attitude. Being a Veteran myself I found it refreshing to be appreciated for my service, and this place makes me feel welcome. BBQ is good. For my tastes, maybe not as good as what I find in the hill country of Texas but better than most. Even the side dishes are good for high is often an issue with good BBQ places. Both places seem to keep the AC setting on pretty low. I found both cool but I'm there for the food and was not disappointed. Drinks are pour your o n from dispensers with tea and lemonade available.
