SO good! I still haven't actually been here physically, but my mom has brought me food from here, and I've had their catering. Consistently delicious homestyle cooking! Their greens are wonderful, their mashed sweet potatoes are amazing, and everything I've had is as good as it gets for restaurant homestyle food. I am black and, while not 100% traditional, the greens will please any soulful palate, ok?! I promise! Even the picky eaters will dig the greens with the tomatoes, not in spite of them, but with them. It really isn't coming up short at all to have Mission BBQ cater your family events. Not a soul will complain because the flavor is there every single time! The baked chicken is wonderful (though something somewhere had gluten, and I suspect it was the baked chicken. While I can't eat the mac and cheese, the eyes know. I can tell that it's mac and cheese done right! Few people know how to do it right. My mom, the family mac-and-cheese-making expert confirmed it was as good as it looked. My son loves it, and everyone on my dad's side ranted and raved when they catered my grandfather's birthday party. Definitely give them a go! I had their brisket, and that was great too! Brisket is my favorite and this is OUTSTANDING brisket. Smoky, lean, moist, flavorful, fork-tender with a nice crunchy bark. Choice of 6 sauces on each table; the sweet is my favorite. Side of green beans also fantastic - slow simmered all day with onions and pork. Savory, salty, tender - good ole' fashioned green beans. Plus a square of corn bread. I wrote a review for the Mission BBQ on West Broad back in 2014 and my thoughts are pretty much the same today. The service here is phenomenal. If they give you the wrong side, they just GIVE you the one you ordered. If you're a Veteran, Law Enforcement, or serve in some way they got you covered. Food wise I have my favorite things. The brisket is nice, I like the sausage, the mac and cheese is fire, and the corn bread is darn decent. Did I mention the service? Have I had better sides and brisket? Well sure. My friends would probably be shocked that I am giving Mission a 1 since I raved about it before this location opened... but until it changes, the Mission BBQ that I love will not get a higher rating at this location. My husband went to get brisket and came home with the driest piece of meat I have ever had. I work across the Mission BBQ on Glenside and Broad and have never had a problem. In fact they almost always have a line out the door every time I am there. I understand that the Mission BBQ on this side of town is new and probably still working out kinks, but telling your customers they don't have a choice for the cut of brisket is ridiculous. There are those that like it super lean and there are those that like it moist... I fall in the latter group. My husband brought the brisket home and I was completely sad and unsatisfied because I got the dryest piece of brisket I have ever had. I am not even a BBQ fan but have been such a great fan of Mission! Come to find out my husband said that they don't do requests for lean or moist anymore. According to my husband they said you get what they cut. I've read other reviews of this location and some indicated they don't like moist but received it ordering. I am boycotting this location until I hear that they let you have a choice of the cut of brisket you want. It is on the nutritional menu on the main website so it makes no sense why the restaurant doesn't allow their customers to select it. Other than the main part of the meal I do have to say the sides are amazing... I got the collard greens... probably the most flavorful collards you've had... green beans are just as tasty. Love the potatoes and Mac and cheese. I would have to say the cornbread is perfect here! The one on Glenside and Broad tends to be super dry. My husband did get the turkey and unfortunately that was also super dry. I'd love to go back, and may even write corporate to discuss this meat situation! Received a couple of free sandwich cards at a military event and decided to redeem them today. Walked in and amazed by the military and first responder memorabilia! The cashier, Ahnalea, ran down the menu for us, made some recommendations and off we went. I am a little upset with her because everything she recommended, we bought and IT WAS TO DIE FOR! There went my workout. Then Cindy came by our table to check on us and not only shared her appreciation for our service, but she gave us two samples of their famous dessert, the Caramel Apple Cobbler! I'll start by saying mission BBQ is usually great but this experience was subpar. For starters I walk in the restaurant and i see the manger sampling food out of the trays in the kitchen. Not the biggest deal maybe he's making sure the quality is there. But as he kept doing it, i was completely turned off and made me question if I wanted to eat there. To see someone in a open kitchen concept continually eat out of the food is not a good look. Cons The brisket texture was there but the flavor wasn't . First time in a Mission BBQ and I will be going back. The place itself is cool with flags of all of the branches of service including first responders uniforms. Different sayings/creeds on the wall, and of course our great flag on display. It was a bit emotional sitting in a place that truly values those who protect our freedoms and keep us safe. The people were all SO FRIENDLY!!! The food. We both had brisket. Mine was the moist brisket on a sandwich. SO FREAKIN GOOD! I also tried the Alabama White Sauce (hint: you have to ask for this at the counter, it isn't on the table). It was really good! They put horseradish in theirs and it is thicker than a typical Alabama White Sauce, but very good. My side was Mac n cheese. I really enjoyed that!!! Hubby had the Lean Brisket, sliced. He really enjoyed it. There was not a vinegar based sauce, but they do have vinegar on the table for you to add to your bbq. Both servings of brisket were really large and neither of us finished. The cornbread on hubbys plate was a little denser and drier than we like, but it wasn't bad. Overall, I enjoyed my food and the atmosphere. I almost can't wait to go back! read more

Mission is a great spot. Love the fact they are supporting our military folks and have those beautiful photos on their walls. I know a guy that has donated a few to each location and glad to see they are being displayed so guests can enjoy a piece of history while waiting. Food is great and atmosphere is fun and feels like a BBQ joint. I have had a few things off the menu and liked everything maybe minus the brisket. It was slightly dry. I have done a ton of brisket in my time and think doing small batch at the house is certainly different than mass production so won't judge too critically. All about the butcher paper!!! I have looked at so many menus in the past at bbq locations around town but none with what I was looking for and then mission bbq arrived. They had exactly what i wanted. Cheddar jalapeño sausage and an array of sides to choose from. I love the atmosphere and concept of mission bbq. I am passionate about honoring our heroes and this place does it so well. The pulled chicken had that unmistakable taste of artificial smoke flavoring. Overly "smoky", and a slight after burn in the throat. Inexcusable in a place with BBQ in the title. The french fries were a soggy translucent tangled heap. It looked like they were prepared yesterday. Still one of my favorite places to get BarBQ (except for my own smoker). I picked up the Brisket, Mac&Cheese with Peach Cobbler. Wow that was a lot of food for lunch - the brisket was moist and tasty along with the very good mac & cheese. I ate the cobbler later and it was very good - not dry but moist and not too buttery. They have some of the best port & chicken BarBQ in this area - the prices are very good. Ribs were fall apart tender which didn't suit me for spare ribs to the point they were close to mush. Cole slaw was a bit on the vinegary side where I prefer sweeter, a little sugar would help. We drove around the Wegman's shopping area and settled for Mission BBQ. **Disclaimer** I was born and raised in Texas. I just moved to Virginia three years ago and have not had any decent bbq. Walking into Mission reminded me of walking into a Rudy's BBQ in Texas (my hopes started to go up). The setup is patriotic, spacious, and bright. Before you order, you come across a large metal cooler with bottles of flavored soda and nostalgic bottles of Pepsi products. We ordered brisket, sausage, a pulled pork sandwich, cheesy potato salad, green beans, and baked beans. The cheesy potatoes were VERY good! Highly recommend this as a side. The sausage was fine the sandwich too. But real bbq is measured by brisket and beef ribs (which are not on the menu). The beef brisket was the best I've had (in Virginia). I ordered a moist cut and the flavor was very good. It was missing a crispier, darker (should be black), peppered edge (see Franklin BBQ in Austin Texas). But overall, I was very impressed and will definitely be back. By the way, the service was great! read more

Soft texture (as usual), appearance was good, flavor was on the better side of smokiness. The sauce helped. The bun was way too bready though. Overall, they were super nice.
