Mission has established itself as a BBQ icon, and for good reason. The food is incredible, and the people who serve it are as warm and comforting as the food itself. I have a particular soft spot for this location, as they've hung a portrait of a personal war hero of mine and my namesake (Thomas F. Blissert) in their restaurant. I also find it admirable they give preferential hiring to servicemen and women, and military retirees. Good on ya, Mission! As for the food, it's some of the best BBQ around, especially the brisket and that delightful jalapeno cheddar sausage. All the sides are to die for, but some of my personal favorites are their collards, the baked beans, and that sinfully delicious banana pudding. The location itself is great, but the parking lot is much smaller than the other location in the west end. Since it is a newer establishment, the wait may be a little unruly, but trust me, it's worth it. I love this place, and honestly, after writing this review, want to go back right now! A+ read more

Went last night for dinner. We arrived about 4:30 not too crowded but the crowd came shortly after. Friendly staff and great service. I will try this place again but I ordered the grilled salmon with green beans. The salmon was waaayy too dry and the green beans were ok. It came with a small piece of cornbread. It was dry too. I guess that's what I get for ordering salmon in a bbq restaurant. Now on a good part. My friend orders the bbq pulled chicken sandwich with mac n cheese and the green beans. The pulled bbq chicken was good and the sandwich was a nice portion. The Mac n cheese was delicious. We were able to try various bbq sauces too which were tasty. I will give this another try but don't know if I'll risk getting the salmon. read more

I love the ribs because of the dry rub they use. The ribs are tender and have a great barbecue flavor. I have also tried the jalapeno sausage and it is fantastic. The prices are good in the customer service is outstanding especially if you are a veteran or a first responder. The staff is courteous and the place is very clean. They are extremely busy on the weekends so you might have to wait a little while but a move everyone along fairly quickly. They also have pick up to go which is really convenient. This was my first time eating in the restaurant and I loved the vibe! Everyone working there was incredibly friendly and very helpful-5 stars for this! The pulled chicken was tasty.. definitely enjoyed trying the many sauces! The green beans and bacon are good.. but super salty after a few bites. The cornbread was dry and not enjoyable.. hopefully just a bad batch. Other food at the table was the brisket which was delicious! However when ordering two meats, you're given less of both and charged way more than just ordering one. Also.. the potatoes were the best part of the meal! I ordered the 1/2 Brisket, Mac and Cheese, and Fries. It was my first time so I got a free cornbread and cobbler. Karen at the register was so friendly and gave me knowledge on the menu , she was amazing. Best brisket I've ever had, the variety of sauces to choose from makes everything a whole lot better. My coworker chose the smoked chicken w. green beans! For drinks, we poured half sweet tea and half lemonade! When I tell you our meal was SUPERB! I personally enjoyed the macaroni and cheese! So many people only post negative reviews and there is not one thing I could complain about with this location. From the time we came in to the time we left was 5 star. They have the best Mac and cheese and green beans I've ever had from a take out BBQ restaurant. I also love their chicken BBQ, smoked turkey, and pulled pork sandwich. The last order of brisket I had last month was chewy and not tender at all. Prices are a little high but it makes up for it in the taste. Fantastic all around! Plans for a surprise party at another area restaurant went awry due to Covid-19 concerns, so I looked to Mission BBQ for help! I needed a take out dinner party for 10 by 11:30 a.m. the next day and was calling at 7:00 p.m. Not a problem. An employee named Nate took my order efficiently, offered suggestions, and reviewed the order to ensure it was correct. The next day, the manager, Blake, assembled the order perfectly. Let's talk about a new place. We visited Mission BBQ Fri. night for dinner. I wasn't aware of the "theme". I thought it would be very southwestern w/ perhaps an adobe prairie mission church, nope I was clueless. The restaurant has just opened & it has a " mission" oriented ....police, fireman & military theme. It has local interest from Chesterfield County to to our national armed forces. So, what about the food. We loved the pulled pork & chicken BBQ. I'd give the QQB an 8-9. We ordered sides of baked beans, mac & cheese, French fries & we had cole slaw & cornbread accompany the food. Conclusion: the sides were basically OK, mixed reviews of the beans, too sweet then a too strong a vinegar after taste. Cole slaw, different, rather negative, but the French fries were dynamite. I loved those. Mac, OK. Corn bread, very dry & over baked. Excellent tea. 6 different sauces, my preference, the Memphis. Quick service, friendly & nice arrangement of seating. Very good! First time eating there. Had many friends rave about it so we tried it. They weren't exaggerating. Customer service excellent as well. Son had the pork ribs, fall of the bone tasty. I had the brisket, VERY tender and favorable. I like Extra Billy's, but I do believe this brisket was better. My daughter had a pulled pork sandwich that she was very pleased with. Annette totally saved my review of this place today! I'd ordered the lean brisket with mac and cheese. When I got back to my seat I realized I'd inadvertently been given half lean brisket and half moist. I only recognized it as moist because I'd had it once before. For those of you that like Ribeye steaks, I'm sure you'd enjoy the moist cut if brisket. Ribeyes just aren't for me, so I walked back toward the counter to ask for a replacement. Before I got up there, Annette happened to see me and asked if everything was ok. I explained the situation. Having eaten there at least 12 to 15 times in the last 2 months, I can honestly say this Mission BBQ is consistently deserving of the full 5*. The staff from the GM to the newest hires seems to enjoy their work serving delicious food quickly and in nice, generous, affordable portions. The huge pile of crispy hand cut (on site, I believe) fries, crispy cheesy mac and cheese, spicy kickin collards, crispy cookie in banana pudding, moist slaw, and seasoned green beans are my and my childrens' favorite sides. The XXL combo is the way to go. Buy the reusable cup to save money on subsequent visits! The moist brisket is always phenomenal - they offer and encourage the Alabama white sauce on it, but I like one of their 6 table choices: the aptly named Old Bay seasoned BayB Que sauce. I mean who does not love the classic taste of Old Bay sauce and on moist brisket?! My teen daughters enjoy the massive BBQ sandwich and ALWAYS have leftovers to enjoy later! The staff takes great pride in keeping the place clean and well stocked. And now for the kicker: not just one or 2, BUT five now know me AND greet me by name immediately as soon as they see me( and never knew me before I first entered their restaurant, AND, no, I am not a celebrity, except to my daughters and son!) This is because the GM and her senior staff recognize the importance of treating all guests well and making them feel welcomed and special. This caring attitude trickles down, and it shows. I know by observation of fellow diners Mission's staff apologizes for anything less than complete satisfaction and rectifies the situation asap; so, anyone whining in a review certainly did not bring it to the staff's attention. Staff was friendly but need to pay attention to their sauce boxes on the tables, missing or empty bottles. Had to ask for the Alabama White Sauce (on ice at the other location.)
