Great addition to the BBQ scene in Richmond. I expect they'll be taking away a lot of business from the Famous Dave's across the street. Every kind of bbq option you could want, and great platter deals to try a variety of meats. I had the pulled pork and brisket and was not disappointed. I love how the give you 6 different sauces to choose from at the table. I was a big fan of the Maryland Bay style sauce. The mac and cheese was also a great side full of melty cheesy goodness. I've gotten take out from here a few times as I've wanted to try something different. I've been happy with it both times. The BBQ is moist and flavorful. Personally, what sets this apart for me, is the fact that they have around 10 sauces, and most of them are REALLY good. Yesterday, July 1, 2016 was such a pleasant day ALL BECAUSE OF MISSION-BBQ, Richmond, VA. My wife wanted desperately to have Famous Dave's Ribs which happens to be in Fredericksburg, VA. I was reluctant to travel the distance from Richmond and WE ARE SO GLAD that we resorted to the internet where we discovered Mission-BBQ-Richmond. This is the MOST PATRIOTIC PLACE that I have ever eaten at in my entire life and THE FOOD WAS REALLY GREAT!!! I went into the military in 1966 on my 17th birthday and I've never felt more appreciated for my service which included a stint in Vietnam in 67-68. MISSION-BBQ is really a wonderful place to reminisce positive memories of the military all while looking at all of the other men and women in uniform past and present and enjoy great hospitality from waitresses like Cindy and others. This is one of the first places my friend took me to for bbq. I went with the 3 meat combo. The pulled pork and the turkey were the way to go. The brisket I had was dry as hell. The only way I could eat it was with a mouthful of tea. I also got the macaroni salad and potato salad, neither of which I recommend. The potato salad was too tart for my taste. The sauces they have are pretty good. I am a big fan of the lemonade and tea fountains. Stick with the turkey and the pulled pork. I might give the brisket another try in the future, but only after I've made my bbq rounds. Service was pretty good as well. read more

Not sure how we feel about fast food style BBQ. However, the service at Mission BBQ was spot on. The girls taking our orders introduced themselves and even let us sample the food. We ended up getting the pulled pork sandwiches. Both sandwiches were made perfectly and all sides were terrific. Well this was my first time at Mission and it was great. It's a little costly for an everyday type of lunch place but it's definitely a treat. They offer samples as soon as you walk in and one of those samples definitely got me to get the seasonal side of caramel apple cobbler. It was the best cobbler I've had in a long time. So I ate at the Mission BBQ while I was TDY in Richmond, VA last Sunday and it was GREAT!! I had the Pulled Pork, Baked Beans, and Fries. The Memphis Belle sauce is my favorite for the pork. The staff was fantastic, and the manager was super friendly. Since the place is military/law enforcement themed, and I am former Air Force and current Law Enforcement, I asked him about a military discount. The manager explained that they don't offer one, but he shook my hand, thanked me for my service, and gave me and my (non-veteran) friend a complimentary peach cobbler. Very nice and very delicious! Had spare ribs and baby back ribs. Ribs were tender and well seasoned with dry rub. 7 different main bbq sauces to choose from. The sides were ok (otherwise I would give 5 stars). They permit the carrying of firearms to demonstrate their patriotism, instead of becoming wimpy about it like many businesses that put feel-good "no gun" stickers on the door that do nothing to criminals. Delicious!! The brisket was juicy and lean, some of the best I've ever had. The sausage was smokey and crispy on the edges. The BBQ was good, but it was slightly salty, nothing some honey sauce couldn't fix! I like the 6 sauces to choose from, there is a match for everything. They serve a side of yummy sweet cornbread. I saved mine for desert it was so good! Everything is made in house, even the tea and lemonade (makes a killer Arnold Palmer) they roast the meats throughout the day, so their selections change with what's fresh.
