Great environment and even better BBQ! Went there for my birthday and it is honestly super good. Will be back.

So much more than just great barbecue! They are very friendly and efficient and food is ready fast after ordering.. I often don't have time to fill my drink at the coke machine before they've called my name. They have many different hot sauces to choose from- "Nashville Hot" is my favorite followed by "Texas Twang" which is a blend of A1 and Worcestershire sauce (awesome on the brisket) They also have many "off menu" (or is it "stealth menu"???) items that they can whip up for you special. They make all their own sauces. They sing the National Anthem and 12 noon every day! They have a big-ass military truck they use for catering and a huge American flag pole out front! While everything I've had there is great, I love either the pulled pork sandwich "NC style" (that's with slaw on top) smothered in Nashville Hot sauce or the smoked turkey sandwich which is unbelievable! So big and sooooooo juicy and all white meat! All the sides are great too especially the fries which they "drop" as soon as you order so they are always fresh and hot for you! The green beans with chunks of bacon and tasty broth are the best I've ever had anywhere! I see many of the same people working there ever since they opened a few years ago which says a lot about their business. Do you know how hard it is to find a BBQ place where I can eat more than just the fries as a side? It is hard, really hard but not at Mission. I can eat almost all the sides because the don't put onions in many of them. THe BBQ is also very good. I got a side of ribs with mac and cheese and baked beans and cleaned my plate. The service was impeccable, and the food couldn't have been any better. I ordered baby back ribs, and they were made so well that the meat practically fell of the bones. The rest of my family loved their meals as well. At a point, a server approached us and asked us if we wanted fries on the house, which were fantastic! The ambience of the restaurant was great too, with the amazing aroma of their meat smokers being the first thing that you notice along with the walls filled with armed forces memorabilia from servicemen. First visit to this place that honors Veterans, Law Enforcement and Firefighters and was happy to have come on Veterans Day. I am a Vet and it felt great being supported by a business like Mission BBQ. I had the 3 meat sampler plate and it was really good. I had brisket, pork and sausage with beans and hand cut fresh fried. Brisket was moist and tender pork rich and flavorful #41 sausage was good too. Beans were great and the fries yummy. My wife got the marinated brisket sandwich and didn't like it much but will state that she hates bbq done like that so I saw several people with the same thing and it was being devoured! This is our favorite BBQ in the area. Tasty, large portions. You are graciously greeted by the staff taking your orders. The food is prepared right before your eyes and the smells are amazing. We came here for a Sunday lunch. Apparently this is part of a national chain but the restaurant has local feel to it. You order at the counter, find a table and wait till they call your name. They have a pretty good variety of barbecue (see attached photos) and we ordered ribs, baby back ribs and a 3 meat sampler platter with sausage, chicken and brisket. We also had the french fries and green beans as sides. The barbecued meats were all very well done, tasty and fall off the bone tender. They had a spice rub but were not sauced. The french fries and green beans were good too. The food was quite good and very tasty but this is not the best barbecue I have had in Louisville nor are the sides super original. However, there are several things that set this place apart. The service was friendly and fairly fast. There is an extensive choice of sodas and other drinks available. There are 6 different kinds of barbecue sauces available on each table, so you can try them all and see which one you like best (my favorite was tupelo honey). In addition, there is a plethora of additional hot sauces, ketchup, wet wipes, etc. in a cabinet against the wall. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The seating was quite comfortable. I love their mission of supporting the military, firemen, etc. Someone came by to check on us to see if everything was to our liking. They hand out free samples. When we were done, someone came by to help clean our tables. In summary, the restaurant pays a lot of attention to detail and really gets their customer service right. We will definitely be back here for the good food and the excellent overall customer experience. P.S. I really wanted to leave a tip but didn't see any obvious place to leave one, even the credit card receipt didn't have a place for it. read more

Hubby travels often for work and has been to Mission BBQ in Louisville and in the Carolinas. Since we were in town for the weekend, he was excited to introduce me to this place. The first thing I noticed was the smiling face behind the counter. Very nice customer service. Mission BBQ gives homage to first responders and all branches of the military. Very nice. You get lots of food for your buck. Like, A LOT of food. Each table has 6 different bbq sauces to try. All really different from each other but honestly, none of which blew my bangs back. I'm sure we'll be back, when we're in the area. And next time, we'll come hungry. read more

This is the second time I've had Mission BBQ. The first time was when they catered my company's 4th of July party. I really enjoyed everything I had at that event so when we were hungry for barbecue and close to an actual restaurant I jumped at the chance to try it again. It lived up to my expectations and memories. I had a pulled pork sandwich with a mild sauce (I believe there are 6 to choose from), mac and cheese, and potato salad. My boyfriend had the same sandwich with different sauce along with coleslaw. My son had the same except he tried the green beans. His friend tried a trio of different meats and cornbread. Everything was really tasty. And while I'm not super patriotic, I have to admit that their commitment to veterans and giving back to the community is very impressive. read more

Stopped in for lunch the other day. The place is an easy spot to find, just off Shelbyville Rd. Look for the big, black M35 cargo truck parked outside. The brisket was pretty good, but not great (3/5). A little dry for my taste. However the chicken was fantastic, juicy and delicious with just the right spice and smoke (5/5). The sides were good (3/5) - typical of most chain bbq locations. The staff was friendly and helpful - good advice on favorites (4/5) An interesting note is that every day at noon they play the National Anthem. The staff and anyone in the restaurant is expected to stand. The business is very military themed, but in a positive way in that they support, campaign for and donate money to military non-profits, and local fire and emergency services. I have been here many times sense my first review but I thought the smoked ribeye deserves a photo and comment . I think for the money you can not make a better choice. Mine was smoked to perfection not overly cooked and almost fork tender. It's not always on the menu but if is you won't be sorry you tried it. read more

Went back again the other night. All food is good. The chicken with the BBQ sauce , the mac and cheese I love. I'm going back again tonight it was so good Monday night. I've been antsy for lunch I'm not sure what I want since nothing will compare till how good Mission BBQ is. But the Cole slaw is not as good as other places , but I'm real picky about my coleslaw. The atmosphere is welcoming and kid friendly. I usually get the brisket sandwich sliced. At most BBQ places I pass on the brisket fro fear that it will be dry, but never here! It's moist, juicy, the perfect balance of meat and fat. We also enjoy the opportunity to teach our toddler to honor our veterans. We talk about simple things like the colors of the flag, explain freedom, and the importance of serving others. He's only two, so we keep it to his level, but we are thankful for good food and a place to honor our vets. Also, the two year old enjoys their Mac & cheese and will even eat some of my brisket, and we all know how picky toddlers can be able eating meat. read more

TLDR; give it a try even if you usually shy away from chains. You won't regret it. We love barbecue and love finding new places across the country. We mostly stick to mom and pop shops, but I've heard so many good things about Mission, so we gave it a go. They weren't wrong! It was delicious. Trying a restaurant during the covid pandemic can be risky because some foods don't transport well, but this was great! The pulled pork and pulled chicken were extremely moist and had a good rub flavor. The jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage was packed with flavor as well. The sauces were all unique and flavorful. I love a good kick and the Tupelo Honey Habanero was a surprise favorite for me. The Kansas City was a close second while the Hubbs loved the mustard sauces. The cornbread was also delicious. We like a sweet cornbread with bbq and this hit the spot. It was a bit too cake-like for my husband, but we'll just agree to disagree there. The only downside that turned into an upside was a missing item. We had a moderate sized order and should have checked the bag more thoroughly, but realized when we got home that our quart of Mac and cheese was missing. (Yes, they sell it by the quart and yes, it's necessary.) We called the store to see if they would refund it since we live about 25 minutes away, and they kindly delivered it to us! It was piping hot and very appreciated as this was our only side. Their kindness and the quality of the food made for a great end to a hectic week. read more
