I want to express my sincere appreciation for the quickness, compassion, and thorough care that Grover has received after being found injured after being thrown from a car window. Every person at this hospital has been incredibly kind, caring, and understanding throughout this emergency. Their compassion and dedication have truly meant so much during such a difficult situation. I already have my own pets seen here, so when I found Grover, a stray who desperately needed emergency care, I knew this was the place I wanted to bring him. I'm really shocked at all the bad reviews here. I take all six of my babies (yes, six) to Mission Vet. I used to work at a nonprofit animal rescue, and it was through their efforts with the shelter that I saw firsthand how compassionate they are. I've been to so many vets throughout the valley and Mission Vet is, by far, the best place to go. I have three pugs (all rescues), two chihuahuas and one corgi mix I adopted from the shelter. Mission Vet is great because they take their time with each patient and provide price break downs before each procedure to find a plan that will work for everyone. For 30 years we have entrusted the care of our animals to this group of veterinarians and their staff starting with 2 horses, 3 dogs and roughly 9 cats. They have seen our fosters, our ferals and our pets. Not all were positive outcomes, but all were treated with professional care and dignity. One vet came in on a Sunday evening to see our 14 year old dog that was seizurring and had cancer. The vet was so patient and kind when we all agreed to let our dog go. She never rushed us to say good-bye and showed compassion. The long time vet/owners here are excellent roll models for any new vets, interns, staff that come in. The best thing I can tell you is do your best to avoid going here. This is a pet service whose primary goal is making money followed by rising prices, and very unfriendly staff. I recently put one of my cats down, he had feline aids, and after putting him to final rest the clerk asked me for the correct change. When I gave her pure bills she commented I should carry change as well. One of my other cats I took to get neutered and that night I took him to an emergency vet service because he/we were given the wrong after surgery medication and he had been overdosed. Years ago I took one of my dogs there and she was diagnosed with urinary tract cancer which at another vet turned out to be a fungus infection. My worst experience there was taking my best friend for a tooth extraction then going home with antibiotics an two days later while in the yard he fell to his side and died. This place will charge you and offer everything they have available but be careful because they cannot cure many of the things they charge you for to look for in your pet. Nor do they offer you any of the more modern treatments like laser therapy, acupuncture, sonagrams, water therapry, nor do they offer orthopedic services, etc. Many of these services available in McAllen. read more

*Update below* If you love your pets, do NOT take them here! I have been faithfully going to this place for years. My dog had gotten the DHLPP vaccine and for the next 2 days, my dog would not eat and would only drink water. He walked strangely on 1 side (as a Nurse, I think they injected him wrong), he was vomiting, and became so weak. We took our dog early the 3rd day and they made us WAIT 2 hours because we didn't make an appointment! Seriously? My dog could be dying and they decided to do the routine checkups first!! They claim it was a "neurological disorder" and did not blame the vaccine. My dog was active and healthy the day of the vaccine and within 48 hours was very sick. How could it not be an adverse effect?! Not only that.... They charged us $275 for the follow-up checkup!! I wish I was making this up. You're just a dollar sign to them. They don't care about you or your pet. *Update: We have been working with Dr. Michelle Fuertes on his recovery. She's not the doc that gave the vaccine. We are thankful to have her. She is going out of her way to reach out to the vaccine manufacturer to help diagnose/treat and in helping with his recovery. For anyone who wants to know what happened to our baby Serena. This is what happened : I took Serena in as an emergency on Sunday. All the dogs managed to push the fence open and got out from the backyard. We just taken them out to pee. Well my son noticed right away they had gotten out so we went looking for them but unfortunately Serena had already gotten hit by a car. We took her to Mission Vet Hospital were they have been patients since birth. Dr. Fuentes and tech. Megan attended to her and told me she needed to be hospitalized for pain meds and observation. That they were gonna run more test just to make sure everything was fine with her organs. This was at 5pm. Well they left to Alamo to do a service call on a horse and didn't get call me back till after 10 pm. And only because I call the emergency line again to inquire on Serena's results. Well Dr. Fuentes called me and told me that everything was good and that she only had a broken pelvic that needed surgery but I could bring her home in the morning with pain meds and wait for the surgeon to call me with estimate and appointment. That she couldn't get surgery until 5 days after trauma. Well I trusted her and picked up Serena the next day. We kept her in my son's room isolated from the rest of the dogs. Followed all instructions for her care. Tuesday I called them all day because they never called me with estimate and it wasn't ready yet. I told Linda office manager and Megan the tech. that Serena was in pain and wanted to take her to San Antonio or Corpus to get seen sooner. They told me no that I had to wait 5 days before they could do anything. At 5 am Wed morning I heard my son yelling her name. David and I run into his room and Serena was dying. David tried giving her CPR but didn't work. She died and there was nothing we could do to help. Turns out they never did a sono on her and didn't check her stomach. Well turns out her stomach turned " that's what Dr. Fuentes guessed happened "!! Guess?? Wtf I paid $623 for her exams and they didn't fully check her!! I had to wake my kids up at 5 am to drive her to the new house to bury her because we weren't leaving her behind. She was coming home with us. Used our cells flash light to dig a hole and bury our Serena. It has been very hard on all of us but especially on my son Dj. She was his daughter. Worked to give her everything she needed and spoil her to the core. She was very loved . Now she is gone leaving our home with so much sadness. I had picked up Serena's medical records and a copy of her xrays on Tue morning because I wanted to get a different opinion in Mexico. That's how we discovered the sono was Never done. I called them and spoke to Dr. Fuentes and told her... her negligence caused my poor Serena to die. They gave me my money back . Said they were sorry. read more

Every time I call, I am put on hold and no one returns to the phone to complete the call. It's extremely frustrating. I have been left on hold for 10 minutes or more. I have to go there in person to make an appointment. The staff seems impatient. As far as the veterinary treatment, my pets have always been professionally treated by the doctors. read more

I cannot speak to the quality of the car provided because I left, but the customer service was lousy. A guy named Rudy told me that walk ins were welcome, and that I would have to wait, but I waited for an hour and half and could not stay any longer. They should have simply told me that walk ins are looking at a 2 hour wait, and recommended an appointment time for a later date. At the very least, they can inform walk ins that the wait might be longer than an hour. I would think they can simply look at the appointments, current clientele waiting, and also base their assessment on prior history. Instead, he simply told me that some people have waited longer. That doesn't work. Not sure I'll go again, after moving into the area only a few months ago from Dallas. read more

One of my dog's was scheduled for a tumor removal surgery. When checking in I was asked if I wanted blood tests done on her for Heartworm and tick diseases. I said they weren't necessary since she has always been on preventatives. They asked for proof I give her the meds. I asked how do I prove I give them to her. Then the girl said I would have to sign a release for having the surgery without the tests and that my dog could die because I refused and it would my fault. Wow! Whatever, release signed. I saw on the pre-op invoice I would be charged $50 for an e-collar and asked that be removed - I won't need the e-collar since I already had several, not to mention I could run to a store and get one for $15. That too angered them. Then they said they will have to give her a rabies vaccination and charge me a crazy amount for that. When I said she has her vaccinations they asked for proof. OK, called the clinic where she got her shots and asked them to email them to Mission Vet. They did. Mission Vet. claimed they never received it. I told them I know the email was sent because I was cc'd on the email and received a copy. They then said they did receive the email but it was too late. They laughed as I was told they would not treat my dog. It was a horrible and unbelievable experience. It was a nightmare. I ended up leaving in tears. I suppose it was my fault for going there after previous bad experiences. One was being charged for medications I told them I did not need since I already had plenty. Another time I paid extra money to have a dog's blood sent off for further testing because Mission Vet. couldn't figure out what was wrong. After a couple weeks I called, since I had not heard from them, asking the results. The person that took my call said there was no record of the tests been requested. I stated I had paid specifically for the tests. Long pause, then an "Oh, the tests were done and the results came back negative." Hmmm, that didn't sound true to me but I had no proof otherwise. That was actually the second time there I spent hundreds of dollars to only be told "I don't know what's wrong with your dog." I know this is long but I want people to be aware of what is going on at Mission Vet. Hosp. It seems to me they will do whatever they can to squeeze every nickel out of you. When caught in their game they get angry and refuse service. No problem Mission Veterinary Hospital - you will never see any of my money again. Oh, and adding insult to injury; several days after the cancelled surgery incident I came across the paperwork I filled out for it. It's all done on the computer and then printed out. Everything I answered yes to had been changed by the girl at the front desk. My dog's records were changed to show she had no vaccinations and never received any monthly meds for flea/tick or heartworm. Unbelievable. Last of all: they contacted me and asked that I remove my negative comment from their FB page. I said I could not. They deleted it themselves. I didn't know that could be done, question the legalities of a business doing that and will be contacting the BBB. read more

Extremely disappointed! On my 4th visit, in 5 weeks, my dog (who was to have a second dental xray) was never put on the schedule. I called the day before to confirm that he would need to be fasted for the procedure. I called twice to check on him with no return phone call. Finally I drove over before they closed for the day. He was never seen despite spending 8 hours in the hospital. I fear he would have spent the night with NO care if I had not gone to retrieve him. I will NEVER use them again. read more

My mom has an old dog, partly blind. I looked for a veterinarian that makes house calls. I was so happy to read the nice House Calls section on their web page. When I called they said that they only make house calls for farm animals. I told them about their web page talking about house calls for your pets. The web page made it seem that they cared about your pet and understood that pets needed care no matter were that care takes place. When I brought this to the girls attention, inwas told that they consider farm animals pets, so they go to the farm. When I mention them being farm animals, I was told that some people consider them pets. House dogs and cats, I don't know what they consider them. Their web page sounds good, but it is misleading especially their House Call info. I considered the girl that answer the phone as rude and was talking back to me. Due to this experience, I will not consider taking any of my pets to them. My pets are dogs and cats. I will continue to look for a vet for my mothers old dog and hope to find a vet that cares and makes House Calls; for not only farm animals, but for household pets too. Very misleading web page! Just read post from Roy M. I want to stress how rude the girl was to me. I told her we would pay for the house call and the girl snickered and said, "Well, that is how it works." WORST VET EXPERIENCE EVER! We took our female dog for a C-Section to Mission Veterinary Hospital. When we went pick her and the babies up, the obviously-not-well trained nurse kicked my dog's face against the cage! We tried to calmed down since we were excited about the babies, so we asked if there were any directions that we needed to follow since it was our first time, but the nurse said that the vet was "too busy" but no need to worry since there was no special directions to follow. (I found really rude that after spending $1,000 for a C-Section the Vet is too busy to talk to you... anyways) A week later, my dog started to discharge very thick and black blood, so we freaked out and went back to this hospital immediately. When the nurse (same that kicked my dog's face) helped us out she explained that they needed to do some blood tests on her and while we were waiting for our dog, several nurses and doctors came in to the room and said "Ew... this is nasty" ,,,,,,,, really? aren't these people suppose to deal with this kind of situations on a daily basis?? plus, we found it extremely rude since we love our dogs! The worst part was when we over heard the same rude nurse telling one of the doctors "Is that the dog that had the funny thing?" while the vet replied "Yes, that's the dog that had the funny thing" So, I couldn't help myself and approach them asking them what funny thing?..... After I asked, she explained us that our dog had a complication during the C-Section and that they needed to cut her uterus, so the puppies were able to go out....however... NO ONE explained that to us nor do they had the intention because we overheard this conversation they were having... As a consequence of their negligence, our dog almost died... these people told us that she was going to die, but they needed to charge us an extra $1,000 so she could stay over the night... Of course we said NO! We thought that if they were negligent on the first time, how could we trust these people again? We took care of her, and gave her pediacare and took her to another vet where they gave her vitamins and antibiotics and fortunately she is healthy now, but she cannot have babies again thank to these people... If thinking about taking your pets to this hospital, please don't .. these people just love to charge $$$$$ and do not care about your pets AT ALL! read more
