I ordered a sausage egg and cheese on a Sourdough to go and I got my order got in my car started driving away, took the sandwich out of the bag and it was so freaking soggy and so doughy it was just gross. Has to be one of the worst sandwiches I've ever tried to eat. I took one bite and there was absolutely no way I was going to take another bite and so I just threw the whole thing away. I was going to drive back and give it right back to them without asking for my money back and just saying here you keep this and I was just a little too far away to be able to do that but I certainly would have. This is not a place I will ever come back to. I know a lot of people go there the place was busy the place was packed but my experience was absolutely Dreadful and I am not going to waste my money like that again! There's nothing worse than spending good money on horrible food! I only have a certain amount of time for a lunch break and I wasted it so now I got to go hungry for the next few hours. Poor me. Very respectable breakfast. I love their corned beef hash, which is homemade. Their pancakes are huge, fluffy and absolutely how pancakes out at a restaurant should taste - if I could make them like this, I probably would never leave my house! Bernie's is more like really good diner food - nothing super fancy, but always good and comforting. Waitresses are friendly and bustling on a busy morning. Mornings will fill up with locals and there is seating at the bar on stools or at tables. You can also get breakfast sandwiches or bagels in the takeout section of the restaurant. While we didn't have muffins this go around, the muffins are always homemade and fantastic grilled! read more

It's a nice neighborhood place, where many members of staff know customers by name. I've been here a handful of times, either on hungover days or days with friends from away. The food is generally good, run-of-the-mill diner fare. I recall the first time I got the Benny I was very impressed with how good it was. The Hollandaise was flavorful and the poach was perfect. Most recent visit, sauce was meh and the eggs overcooked (though it was busier if you want to make excuses). Your regular eggs or pancake/waffles are about as classic as you can get. read more

Here in a Saturday morning for breakfast. Parking lot and road side parking was packed. Luckily we found a spot not too far from the doorway. Entered through the cafe door and got in line with the others waiting for a table. 10:30a and the place is humming. After a 20 minute wait our booth table was ready. In the mood for their Lox and cream cheese sandwich. Hubby had the plate with it all, choosing a pancake instead of French Toast. Cup of coffee while we waited. In a cast post surgery and conscious about where I place it, I found resting in my other foot better then in the floor where I could see trash under the table. Being a busy morning understandable however the encrusted splatters on the wall, napkin holder, and condiments were another thing. See attached pictures. I totally forgot to snap a pic, but I had one of the best eggs Benedict I've had in a while this morning. I ordered their Malibu Benedict, which comes with avocado, a thick slice of bacon (not fatty at all, which I love) topped with a perfectly poached egg and a delicious savory hollandaise sauce. It came served with home fries which honestly could have been my favorite part of the meal. They had the perfect soft inside and crisp outside with a really tasty seasoning salt! I also love ordering bagels here from time to time, their lox cream cheese is a must try :) read more

I was happily surprised with Bernie's Foreside. It's half bagel shop and half diner--I had been to the bagel side a couple of times recently, since they started serving bagels from Union Bagel. It's somewhat of a cottage decor on the diner side, the original art work is a nice touch. There were quite a few parties waiting to be seated when I arrived, just after 9:30, but my friend had already been seated so I'm not sure what the wait time was like. Our waitress took our order right away. Service was attentive, our food was served fairly quickly, and she came by and refilled my friend's bottomless cup of coffee several times. The menu was standard diner fare: pancakes, eggs, breakfast sandwiches, etc. The Yogurt Delight I ordered came with fresh fruit that included strawberries, sliced oranges, bananas, and blueberries and vanilla Chobani yogurt, which is gelatin free. It also came with a generous portion of granola and toast. It really exceeded what I expected for a diner. There is plenty of parking as they are located on Route 1, in the front of the big box store. Noteworthy, they close at noon on Saturday. Overall, a positive experience and I would recommend Bernie's if you're looking for a solid, no nonsense breakfast at a place with great service and plenty of parking. read more

Stopped in for breakfast while heading north for the day. Place was bustling. Breakfast ends at 11 but luckily we got there at 10:45. Bagels were great. Stopped here for breakfast the other day and it was quite busy. We had to wait about 15 mins for a seat. The service was friendly. Classic diner food but the prices were a little high in my opinion. They do make their bagels from scratch. I got a breakfast sandwhich on their everything bagel and it was okay but I was expecting more for homemade. They have a connecting side that you can order takeout if you don't want to wait. Overall decent breakfast place, expect a wait if you come on a Saturday or Sunday. read more

This is a great brunch place. The staff there is very attentive and friendly and the food is excellent. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and a side of fruit. When I asked the server if she could customize the fruit she said "of course!". Get there early because they can get packed but the wait wasn't too bad. Very busy little spot!! I went on the recommendation of my parents! My mother said it was a must try! She said the hollandaise is so good you want to literally lick your plate clean! She was very accurate with this information! When we arrived we were seated very promptly, within 10 min they had a line of patron waiting to be seated. The waitstaff was friendly. Bernie's Foreside, attached to a bagel shop, is filled with smiling customers and equally positive servers expertly dancing around tight quarters to refill coffee cups and bring extra over to the table. On the weekends there can be a line to wait for a table, but it generally moves quickly and it is certainly worth the wait. I might say the highlight here is the vibe, but they have epic grilled muffins and bagel options and the coffee is hot and strong. read more

Came here for brunch after a 5k on a Sunday morning. The place was crowded and there was a wait. The wait continued after we were seated, but I think with the labor shortage this is status quo, not unique to here. I had a Texas scramble (eggs, peppers, onions and cheese). When asked about home fries I said I would like the vegetable home fries (I thought they were a plant based alternative). Come to find out they were home fries with peppers, mushrooms and onions for a $2.00 up charge! In general, I don't mind up charges if I am told about them. I should have asked more questions as it wasn't what I wanted. The scramble was a nice alternative to the omelet. The best part of the breakfast was the toasted English muffin (comparable to Big Sky Bakery Muffins)! It may be because I don't eat a lot of carbs, but it was delish and a wonderful. I was running errands, realized that I needed to eat something, and spotted Bernie's. It didn't have to be spectacular, and I didn't have high expectations. Probably just as well because they definitely lived down to them. I will say that the place was clean and friendly seeming, and fairly busy. My server gave me a menu fairly promptly and brought my requested water. I had seen the soups of the day and ordered a cup of Beef Barley; I make a pretty good B B soup from scratch, but wasn't I disappointed when out comes a "bowl" of what looked like a Campbell's knock-off of beef barley soup. Now, I can't swear that it was canned soup, but I grew up on Campbell's as a child, before I became a good cook and a food snob. And for $6.49 I feel comfortable calling it a travesty. I also had the buffalo chicken roll up; it was okay. Nice tender chicken, crisp lettuce, etc. I only ate half (took the rest home for later), paid my bill and left. It was far and away not the worst experience I have had in a diner/cafe setting but a) I have now satisfied my curiosity and have no need to ever go back to Bernie's, and b) I should have gone to Becky's while I was still in Portland. I spent 26 years in food service, including a number of them as a fine dining sous Chef, so my expectations are somewhat loftier. Don't let this dissuade you from trying them. read more

Great little spot off the beaten path! I came here with a friend after we tried relentlessly to find a brunch spot in Portland and failed miserably. I've seen this place before, it shares a half open wall with Mr Bagel, located in a little strip mall off route 1 in falmouth, just before the wal mart. My friend and I were immediately greeted and seated upon entering. It was busy but not crazy, and we didn't have to wait at all, even though it was 930 on a Saturday. The ambience is like your typical breakfast restaurant, and it's hot too loud, you can actually carry a conversation easily here. They have a combo of counter seats, tables, and booths. So something for everyone! And the staff are attentive and super nice too. Very good feel here. My friend and I both ordered mimosas, which for the $6/7 is totally worth it because you get a giant goblet of goodness for the price! My friend got scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast, while I got the California Benedict (which comes with bacon and avocado). We both raved about our respective meals, eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, food was hot, and we had very good sized portions too! The home fries are crisped to perfection. Stopped by here for breakfast before a road trip up Maine, and boy was I glad yelp directed us to this place! Very homey vibes with the staff laid back and joking, but also attentive enough that when I want hot sauce with my home fries, they provide. (and Cholula! ) also, they even gave me a coffee to go! As I was reading the previous reviews of Bernie's I will tell you that I was completely surprised. My wife and my family have been to this little establishment many times and have never been disappointed by the food here. The restaurant is a good mix of home made breakfast and diner style food to some delicious and light fare during the lunch hours. Yesterday, the wife and I dove into a delicious BLT that was both large, fresh and had a layer of fresh green and delicious avacado to top off the BLT. The fries that we got with our sandwiches were hand cut and delicious. The bacon was hearty and the tomatoes were beefy. Now, I know we could have been more adventurous but we were feeling a bit healthier than my mormal rueben sandwich or the eggs benedict that we have had at breakfast time inthe past. The only reason for there not being 5 full orange and white stars was the simple fact that the service could be a little friendlier and inviting but I think that the concept is one that is of a diner feel and they are there to take the orders quick, deliver the delicious food quick and get the next customers into the seats right behind. The bathrooms are always very clean and the restaurant is extrmely tidy and immaculate and you can smell the delicious bagels that they are slinging next door. If you are looking for a quick brunch bite while roaming around the Falmouth area, then stop in here and try this little place, I dont think you will be disappointed. read more

Ok, I get it. It's cute. It's quaint. It's been there forever in some form or another. And most importantly, it's basically the only non-fast food breakfast option in Falmouth, markets kinda cornered I guess. But it's just not good from any vantage point. While I'm writing this in the Trader Joe's parking lot as my wife is grabbing some essentials, the memory is fresh in my mind. Cause we just came from there. Walk in, seat ourself, wait about 10 minutes, and finally the waitress comes over, puts the menus down and says; "Drinks?" Simply that. Oh hey dude, would love some java, water and a bong? I have long said that the service industry isn't what it once was, and this whole experience will show it. So drink orders in, 10 more mins go by. Coffees arrive. Says she'll be right back with the waters and chocolate milk for the child. 15 mins go by. Comes back with milk and water and asks "want to order?" Why yes, I would love to! Ordered a Greek scramble. Irish Bennie. And lox bagel. Bagel was the highlight of the meal. Anyhow, so 20 more minutes go by, catch up with some family who happened to stop in, and our food comes. My wife loved hers. Tasted fresh. Bagel as I said, was awesome. My Irish Bennie however? Cold. Not like lukewarm, like that hash was COLD to the touch. Now, getting the waitress back took a few minutes, and I inform her it's cold. Reply? "Should he make you a new one?" Well I don't know, if you have a microwave that'd be fine at this point. So 15 more minutes and my food comes out. Everyone else is done eating by now. So the food this time was hot. And tasted.... fine. The hollandaise was super buttery and not appealing. But the hash was good. But there was a lack of a 'sorry' or anything other than a 'so is that one better?' About 10 minutes later. Which was about the point of where my coffee was refilled for the first time. So bill comes. Nothing reflected in the bill. Now I don't expect much nowadays in the way of something for a difficulty. But I had to eat alone, forcing my wife and kid to wait for me, with not even an I'm sorry. Maybe like 10% off the bill? Knock the coffees off? Is that expecting too much? I mean, am I crazy? So pay the check, go to the bathroom. And the hot water doesn't work in the sink. I sure hope the staff are washing their hands in the kitchen with some hot water. Anyhow, just not good. I must say though, there have been times we've been and it's been perfectly adequate. Never mind blowing, but it's a diner. So I think the idea is... it's a craps shoot. Take your chances if you wish, you might get ok food and ok service. However, you also might get a breakfast from hell. Up to you, I won't be back. read more

Bernie's offers a perfectly acceptable breakfast -- nothing to write home about and nothing to complain about either. The menu is standard fare -- eggs cooked in the usual ways and served with home fries and bacon or sausage. An "Irish Burrito" -- scrambled eggs and corned beef hash rolled up in a tortilla -- is about as adventurous as it gets. I chose to "build my own omelet" with mushrooms, onions, spinach, and cheese. It was fine, my only complaint being that the cheese was only partially melted when served. Bernie's is located in a strip mall, and the interior is rather sterile. Service is good. All in all, it's a decent place to go if you're in a pinch, but I'll seek out something more interesting next time. read more

We are visiting Portland and decided to give this place a try. There were people waiting outside and we soon found out why. Our wait was fairly brief and our table was cleared quickly. My spouse ordered eggs and blueberry pancakes and they were fantastic. I ordered the special, jalapeño scramble and it had home fries. WOW! Fantastic!! Some of the best home fries I've had. Tried Bernie's for the first time after hearing good things. Wasn't really impressed. The hash browns were okay but lacked seasoning. The classic eggs Benedict is sub par. The hollandaise sauce was made incorrectly and had way too much butter. The sauce it's self was chunky and separating, creating little oil pockets and was not glossy or smooth. The sauce just tasted like a stick of butter. It was terrible! The English muffin was soggy. the Canadian bacon was rubbery and tough. All in all it tasted like an old egg McMuffin sandwich from McDonald's with butter. On the plus side they have Sriracha ketchup! The foods just really bland. read more

I have to start off with that I have lived in Falmouth less than a mile down the road for five years now. I keep trying to like this place. I have given this place a chance over and over as I expect it to change (this is my issue bc it would be so convenient and I want a good close place to grab a bit). This being said, this is not the first time I assure you, I went in to grab a bagel at 9:35 am on a Monday. Literally not a single bagel!!! It also took someone in the back yelling at the person five times and five minutes later, who should have been helping the customers, to come tell the three other parties and myself that they had run out of bagels. Now, I love this situation(sarcasm) as all the people (remember there is four parties, all together seven of us) looked at one another and said it almost in unison, "how does a bagel shop not have bagels at 9:30?" I think the best thing about this experience is it was not my first time of this same situation. I have walked in a handful of times by 8:30 am and they have had no bagels.... you have to wonder what lunch is really like. So in summary, until someone with business acumen buys this establishment, do not waste your time. read more
