I had excellent late lunch with friends. It was after 3 but still had steady stream of customers. I personally never heard of this place until my friend raved about how he loved Mister Jim's for many years. Well I must say it was worth the visit. I got lost few times getting there with my GPS hiccups. The place was fairly small with a lot of take outs and I did spot their delivery vehicle outside in the parking lot. Two registers were ran like a fast food order stations and once ordered they hand out buzzers to let you know to get the food when it is ready to enjoy. Cajun chicken sub that I had was delicious but next time, I am going to have ask for extra spicy. Cookies were excellent and fresh. My friends had pizza sub and steak fries and grandmasters and potato salad. Everyone enjoyed very much. I ordered philly cheese steak sub for my husband to go and my friend order ed deluxe philly cheese steak sub to go. And of course those cookies. My husband and I haven't eaten here since 1993. It's been the standard we have held sub shops to and all the others gave always missed the mark. This is my first time ordering from Mister Jim's and it was not good. I ordered a chicken Parmesan sub and fries. The fries were over cooked. I ate them though because I was hungry. Ordered 3 mr Jim's specials. I ordered online and did curbside pick up. Everything went great. Order was correct. Subs were still warm when I got home. As for the subs wow. Super yummy. Everyone ate their entire sub while saying this is the best sub I've ever had. I'm just disappointed I hadn't tried sooner. Love the curb side pickup. So convenient when your running around with kids to just pull up and grab really good food. Best thing we ate all week! My GF and I went Saturday May 30th 2015 and were impressed on how easy it was to locate. When we first walked in we looked for the menu; I asked if they had any paper menus and was told no. Which is weird because they had a take out service . how do you have a take out service with no paper menu? We were directed into the eating area to view the menus on TV screens that were filled glare. Idk who's idea this is but someone needs to change it. Have paper menus and one above the ordering area. Great customer service though. The Food: I ordered the Grandmaster sandwich which had ham, 2 kinds of salami, pepperoni, lettuce, mayo, oil, vinegar, tomato, onion & a hot red chili paste. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. Enjoyed it. My girlfriend ordered the Smoke Turkey & Applewood bacon sub. She said it was dry, not enough mayonnaise & oil & vinegar. Poor quality of food. My husband Got a Philly cheese steak and the cheese wasn't even melted. I got a gyro and since when does a gyro have sautéed onions? It's usually with raw red onion. The gyro sauce tasted like Mayo. My son got a pizza sub and the way they just slap on pepperoni shows they didn't care how they prepare the food. It wasn't proportionally laid out on the bread. My mom and I went on a slow day and still waited over 20 mins to get our food. I really dont understand the obsession with this place. The sub I got was soggy and bland, my mom's they forgot the oil and vinegar, and the fresh cut fries were grease filled, limp, sad potatoes. Also they charge 2$ for a large cup of water. Nothing bad to say here. Mister Jim's is an inexpensive sub shop that puts together an amazing sub for a very reasonable price. Ended up having the half version of the classic sub with a side order of fresh cut fries and some cookies for dessert. The classic sub was a great old fashioned sub that one could tell had quality ingredients...oh! and the fresh cut fries, boy are they fresh as can be (a regular order is big enough for two people to share). Lastly if you have a sweet tooth grab a few of their cookies I got the chocolate chunk, Royale and oatmeal cookies one can not go wrong with any of them. My toasted turkey and bacon sub was good, and the prices were very reasonable. Staff at the counter were polite. Wish I hadn't ordered the fries and cheese sauce though. The fries, though hot, were limp and in a soggy pile. The cheese sauce had zero flavor. The portion of the fries was absolutely massive, but that doesn't do any good if they don't taste good. I gave them the ol college try, but ended up throwing them away. Would return for the sandwiches, but not those fries. read more

Look - this is a Great Bridge fixture. They're rightly known for their delicious subs and portion sizes on the fries are just insane. I hadn't been here since I was a teenager and I'd forgotten how awesome they are. I can't elaborate on anything with the food that most people don't already know or haven't heard. If you want a fantastic sub then go here! The Italian sub options are THE BEST, in my opinion. Just be prepared for the line during rush times and also for the fact that you may not get a seat inside. I took away one star because an older lady, whose name I cannot remember, behind the front counter was fairly rude to us twice - separately. I know she's been there since way back when (per restaurant write-ups in the VA Pilot) and sometimes people in those circumstances forget that the other half of a good restaurant involves friendly service. There is no need to angrily and repeatedly scream "Next!" at someone if they clearly aren't ready to order and standing at the back away from the registers. My wife had the gyro and gave it a 4/5. My chicken sub was a total let down. Basically a frozen breaded chicken breast, probably Sisco, that was an overcooked hard dried out shoe. Definitely not fresh. When r these restaurants gonna realize Sisco food is crap. It takes little effort to make your own fresh chicken and not over fry it. They definitely have changed their menu. Some good, some not so good. I will try again but not the damn chicken unfortunately. I would prefer not to have processed meat type products. Also got beef lumpia. Another frozen turd. 2 out of last 3 orders have been wrong. After waiting an hour to fix their last mistake I called and asked them to just refund. Driver showed up while I was on the phone. I guess I wasn't thinking so I grabbed the order while holding the phone. The manager finally came on and was kind of an ass, no apology and said they couldn't refund. I will just throw sandwich out, but I doubt I'll ever use the credit. Just sad because this was about the only delivery that family could agree on. Truly this is a jewel in Great Bridge. This restaurant has been in business for 40 years and every time I've been there with my wife the food has been awesome. We had one error in all of the nine years we've come here and it was well taken care of. My wife orders the pizza steak and I have to have the special lightly toasted and spicy. I have eaten here before but this time we picked up food to go. We got food for my brothers birthday. He never had tried their pizza before. We ordered a large meat lovers and a large pepperoni. Good size pizzas. Carrying them together had some weight to them. They are square cut pizzas which I like because you get those none crust pieces that are just delicious. We also got a steak and cheese sub, a Chicken Parmesan sub and their Chesapeake jubilee sub. The steak and cheese must have been good since my nephew devoured it before I could even get the plates of pizza ready for my kids. My wife enjoyed the chicken Parmesan sub, she gets it every time. The Chesapeake jubilee was good but could have been better, was kinda dry and I didn't taste any of the home made Italian dressing on it like normal so they may have forgotten that step. I'm a huge sandwich/sub guy, and love checking out new sandwich/sub places. I have been hearing about Mister Jim's subs for years! I was in the area and I figured I should check this place out finally. Am I happy I did? Hell yeah. Does it suck that I have gone so many years without? Oh yeah. This place was delicious! My friend (a former regular) and I ordered two sandwiches for me to try. The Beef Bacon Cheddar and The Chicken Parmesan. Both hit the hungry stomach spot nicely! The Beef Bacon Cheddar trumped The Chicken Parmesan by just a bit. The Chicken Parmesan had just the right amount of marinara, and it didn't invade the whole sandwich. The roast beef, bacon and cheddar flavors that blended together in the Beef Bacon Cheddar sub that was delicious! I need to try more of their subs, for sure. Now here's some philosophy that a foodie friend shared with me "if the fries are awesome, then you know the rest of the food will be awesome. If the fries aren't good, the the food may be iffy." This philosophy did not prove false at Mister Jim's! Those fries were made right complimenting the sandwiches awesomely! However, I did have to keep tabs on the fries when they came out. I wanted to like this place....I really did. I ordered the Mr Jim sub special and was excited to try it. Mediocre at best...it tastes exactly like Jimmy Johns except more expensive. After eating I immediately felt sick and let's just say things didn't end well for my stomach. With all of the meat sitting on the counter being weighed in the morning I think the risk of food born illness is present since the process isn't fast.
