Doing a burger comparison today and wanted to compare smashburger and Freddie's... Order the Classic Smash with the scorching hot fries... The burger was great, juicy, and nicely flavored. All the ingredients were fresh and the quality of the burger was on top compared to other fat good burgers. I love the fries here because they are the skinny fries which ensures that are crispy.. tried the Scorching hot this time and to honest was not too impressed.. it was an oily sauce that didn't have much flavor and was between mild and medium on the heat scale.. The best spicy fries that Smashburger had was the ones they had in Houston texas a few years ago.. the fries were coated with a dry salty seasoning which really made the fries pop out, when compared to the oily ones they have now.... Back to my burger match.. Smashburger clearly wins when it comes to the burger itself.... Compared to the plain dry burger I had at Freddy's. Food is normal smash burger you know what you're getting staff was rude as hell. When I came in I said good afternoon how are you as I was the only customer in the place, she looked me dead in the eyes and said nothing. I then saw the new special brisket bacon double and said hey how's the brisket here. The response I don't know what do you want to eat. Then once I placed my order she sat at a chair next to me and just scrolled through her phone??? First time visiting Smashburger and I have to say they make a really good burger. They don't have combo meals so everything must be ordered separately, which can boost your bill up quickly since most of their burgers are around $10. They do have a couple of basic burgers at $6. It's self serve at the front counter, but they bring the food to your table. Self serve drink station also; not a lot of options on drinks. Nice inside with several tables. The service is absolutely terrible; they are slow, there are always new workers, and never a manager on site. The food is greasy and the burgers are consistently overdone. I ordered the fried Brusselssprouts and the container wasn't full and a puddle of greese was in the bottom of the to go container. Everything is over priced and the restaurant is dirty. I walked in and was excited to try their signature burger the S'Mac and Cheeseburger. They said "we aren't serving that " My husband went and ordered his burger and got the same answer. The staff member taking my order was distracted and was looking behind us the whole time which was uncomfortable. We finally picked something they had , phew! I've been to this location a few times, and this is for my most recent visit. I ordered the S'mac n cheese double smash burger with smash fries, which totalled $17 after tax. The food didn't come out super fast but also wasn't too long - approximately 10 minute wait with 2 orders ahead of me. The burger itself was good. The char from a smash patty just gives it the best texture and flavor compared to other burger places imo. My problem this time was the smash fries. I know it gets tossed in olive oil and herbs, but my fries were absolutely soaked and not crispy. It was just too oily. This is a great, low key burger spot. They have plenty of protein (like grilled or fried chicken, turkey or beef burgers or black bean) and topping options and great side options. My personal favorite is the brussel sprouts! The dessert menu is full of delicious milkshakes with classic and seasonal flavors. The wait is not too long and they have dining or takeout. I went one time when they first opened. I have not been back. The burger was over cooked and not juicy. A burger needs to be juicy not greasy. I don't remember what fries were like. You can go to Yard House and get the best 1/2 lb burger and fries for $14,99. Also, they will substitute the fries for a huge regular salad or Caesar Salad. No mess to clean up and service is always top notch. And these places where you order always want a tip even though you are walking up to the Counter and getting it yourself(self serve). Mooyah was our go-to place, but since they have closed locations, we decided to try Smashburger (we don't bother with 5-Guys anymore, we'd go to Wendy's first). Anyway, I was surprised how good my burger was, not the best I've ever had, but I'd give it an 7.5/10. The fries were ok, maybe 6/10. However, the worst thing was the gluten free bun. DON'T ORDER IT! I literally couldn't eat mine, every time I picked up my burger it fell apart, plus it was completely tasteless. So next time I'll get mine in a lettuce wrap. This place was recommended by my older brother. He talked this place up, so we had high expectations. We enter the establishment and the cashiers look like they don't want to be here. LeAnn was pretty unpleasant. She blank stares at me and never gave me a greeting, so I say hello and start awkwardly ordering. When I offer her my card to pay, she just points to the computer where I swipe it myself. Ohhhkay. I did a craft your own burger, which isn't terrible, but I did pay extra for the cheese and bacon. I also order their coffee shake to share. My husband and younger brother were simple and both got the Triple Double burgers. I was feeling really annoyed after my experience with LeAnn, but then came Gage. He was friendly, polite, and helpful. He was the one who brought out the shake first and gave us the extra. He was also the one who brought out our food and made sure we were good to go before leaving. He even *gasp* smiled. When we started eating, the only weird thing was when I went to bite my beef burger, it smelt like I was eating a hotdog. I rarely ask my husband if he wants a bite of my food, but it was too bizarre not to share lol. In any case, the food wasn't baaad, but I'm disappointed my brother hyped it up so much. Okay, is there something I'm missing in regards to SmashBurger? I've heard people rave about them, but after my first visit I wasn't blown away. Their concept is similar to Five Guys and Mooyah, but if forced to rank them SmashBurger would place third amongst them. At this point when I come across a burger joint I haven't tried before I tend to think big. Appetites across the country are hearty and burger joints not only have to push out tasty food but also go big with the portions. So what I had in mind for SmashBurger lined up with Five Guys and Mooyah. The reality, though, didn't meet my expectation, at least not when it comes to size. For nearly $14 I was given 6 oz. burger, fries and a fountain drink. That's pretty expensive considering the burger is just over 1/3 lb. And 6 oz. is their large! I found that to be disappointing, but I still have to try their food. The wait for my food took a bit, and my friend and I noticed some of the patrons were waiting a long time, too (we came in right as the dinner rush began). One family was visibly upset, and the dad had to resort to walking to the counter with his receipt and table number stand to get his food. As for me, I dined with a buddy but our food didn't arrive at the same time. Mine showed up first, and at first glance my truffle mushroom swiss looked awesome. But alas, there was a glitch. I noticed, laying oh so comfortably on the top bun, a "nice" thick black hair which must've fallen from the scalp of the person who delivered my food. My buddy noticed it, too - it was just chillin'. Nope! Not touching that jank! But dammit, I forgot to take a pic of it! I took my order back to the register and I had to wait a little because the girl at the register was taking a customer's order. She was observant enough to get the expo person's attention for me, and when I showed her the burger she quickly told me she'd replace it. To be honest, that situation was handled well, but the interesting thing is TWO replacement burgers showed up! The first runner came with only a burger, and after he said it was the replacement I thanked him and asked if my fries were coming soon. He said, "Yes," I was cool with that and decided to wait. My buddy's order arrived, then after that another employee showed up with my fries - but another burger was with them! I gave her a puzzled look and gestured to her to go ahead and take one of the burgers back, but she shrugged her shoulders and said, "Eh, don't worry about it." Two burgers for the price of one works for me, but that situation informed me that communication is lacking. It's either that or they have a policy of replacing bad food with two good ones! Finally, I try my burger and admittedly it's tasty. Truffles in anything is delicious and it worked very well with the crimini mushrooms and swiss cheese. The egg bun is a nice touch, too, so taste gets high scores from me. Although my experience wasn't as memorable (i.e., calamitous) as Maria G.'s, I think my visit lines up best with Joe D.'s, Gabriel D.'s and Xerxes N.'s. This location's staff has some growing pains to overcome, and they'll work it out in time. The big worry is whether or not diners will wait around for them to get organized. But ultimately they cannot control the size of their food. And since I believe their price points aren't justified, they're going to have a difficult time competing with other upscale-casual burger joints. JV read more

Really glad they finally opened one down here, so close to home too! However, I wish there was more parking, that location is such a busy area. They burgers are always delicious. We love the twin cities burger and the old dominion burger. I love that they have so many add on toppings available as well! Their smash fries are better good. But they literally give you less than a handful. For the amount you're paying, which is premium (15-20 for a meal), you'd think they wouldn't skimp out on the fries so much. Been here about five times since they opened. The burgers are good enough to keep me coming back. But they need to kick it up a notch if they have customers paying this much. Gimme more fries! The workers there are really nice, especially the ones that run out the food and check on your meal. 5/5 for them! The associates at the register could use a smile once in awhile though. read more

I was excited. I visited my first Smashburger in California. It was great so I was looking forward to eating here. We ordered a double decker cheeseburger combo and a chicken avocado club blt combo. Our total was around 22 dollars. We were greeted by a nice cashier who made us feel great aboit stopping in. The restaurant was decorated to appeal to a burger lover seeking more than McDs. The dining area staff checked in with us frequently that was nice. The restaurant was clean. The food was so basic. The double burger was tasteless. The presentation was better than the actual food. Cute mear without a hint of flavor. The smash mouth fries were good. Straight, skinny and slightly overcooked potatoes. The chicken avocado blt club featured a twice cooked breast with burnt edges, the av]I] ocado pieces had brownish lines running through it and it was lumped onto one side of the sandwich, and the bacon was burnt. I had seen a video online about smashed burgers, so I decided to try this chain. The only one is at Greenbriar in the old Starbucks location. The first thing I noticed walking in was a paper sign about salads not being available due to e-coli. Ew, but thanks for letting know before asking for one. There was a paper menu on the register that didn't have prices, and 2 of the 4 menu screens were out, where the prices were. This was kind of frustrating but the staff said they could look up how much stuff was. I eventually ordered a single cheeseburger with fries and a drink. It was $10.47. I sat down and found many of the tables had ragged napkins stuck under the legs. My table was not wobbly, but the people next to me struggled with a wobbly one. The other table had eaten food on it. Evidently you don't throw your trash away, there's no trash cans except a tiny hole by the drink fountain. Staff is supposed to come by and bus the table. They need to remember to clean the seats, the booth had fries stuck on them. My food arrived pretty fast, right at 6 minutes. The fries were good, if a bit like McDonald's. The burger was tolerable, it didn't taste like much. They were generous with the toppings but that didn't save a bland burger. The tray came out to me sloppy, this mayo/mustard stuff they put on the bun was smeared on top the bun, the fry container, and the tray. Unfortunately Smashburger didn't have anything to stand out. Maybe, I'd give this place 3.5 stars. You'll know you'll see some sleek minimalistic modern designs when you enter just from seeing the SmashBurger sign in front of the establishment. Upon entering, you go up to the counter order your meal then find a seat and the staff will bring you your meal. My friend who was with me labelled this place "high class fast food". I ordered the single bacon smash with smash tots and my friend ordered the kids meal burger and fries. She like the taste of her cheeseburger and liked the fries. The bacon smash is delicious. It's a good, solid burger. My only complaint is that for $6 I'd like a heftier burger like some of the other burger joints offer. The smash tots were good and greasy. The tots are made with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil. While eating, a staff member came up and asked how the food was-nice touch. We went during lunchtime on a Thursday. It was not crowded. We ordered a single caramelized onions smash and classic double smash with smashed tots. Everything was delicious. You really need a double though. The single was good but needed more meat. The tots were cooked perfectly. Soft & moist on the inside crispy on the outside. The smashed tots come with garlic rosemary & olive oil on them. yummy! I could have used more in my container. I also had an Oreo shake. The shake was not made well. Too much Oreo cookies not enough ice cream so it was ALOT of cookies at the bottom & the straw kept getting clogged with cookies. They could of gotten 5 stars but the tables weren't clean in the dining room. Also the ladies room could of used a good sweeping. But my husband said the mens room was clean. Food was great.
