    4 sliders with flavorless fries
    Dana C.

First time trying McGraths while being in the area. After we ordered and received our drinks (tea and water), we were then told that the kitchen only had one worker and it was a long wait. Not sure why they couldn't tell us this before the order. Anyway, no biggie. We ordered an app, mozz sticks and split the 4 cheeseburger sliders with fries. The mozz Sticks came out about 40 min later. They were so over cooked that all the cheese was completely blown out of them. We tried a few and it was nothing but bread. The waitress was nice enough to take them back and just remove them from our tab (it would be too long to wait for them again). Another 20 minutes and we received our order. The fries looked amazing!!! I was so disappointed to find out that looks can be deceiving. They had no flavor. I feel like maybe it was an oversight? I have read other reviews and others raved over them so, maybe the kitchen just forgot to season them. But they tasted like pure oil. But those burgers. Holy moly. Those burgers are were soooooo good! They don't make up for the others but I was glad not to leave there hungry. They gave us a coupon for our next time coming in. Told us not to open it and let our waitress, so they could tell us what our percentage off was. I opened it in the car bc I will not he back. It was 10% off in case others got this as well. Just a heads up

First visit to McGrath's was decent, though the AC was broken, so it was like an oven inside. The waiter apologized when we arrived and explained the situation. These things happen. I had the All American and my hubs had the Irish burger. Both were delicious and just the right size. Service was awesome and friendly! The only thing we both didn't like were the fries. They tasted completely uncooked. I had to smother mine in ranch to make them edible. Not great. I would return to try other items and I hope they add some other side menu items for variety!

Was looking for a new place to try and this spot did not disappoint. We were greeted as soon as we entered and told we could sit anywhere. It is a small divey spot which I loved! There's outdoor seating and private parking lot with plenty of parking. They brand the buns -looks great and doesn't affect the flavor or softness. The burger was juicy and the sauce was so delish! I recommend getting more on the side. The chicken was tender and moist- needed more sauce and blue cheese. We asked for the bacon well done and probably should've just said we didn't want it rubbery bc he definitely took well done to heart. They have a full bar and carry Pepsi products. Oh and the fries so good and the cook seasoned them just right. Will definitely return for that burger!

I returned to McGrath's Burger Shack for dinner last week. I ordered the Irish Burger this time, I highly recommend this burger. It was juicy, packed with flavor, and cheesy. I also tried the Reuben Pierogies . They were delicious! Perfectly made with shavings of corned beef and kraut. I love pierogies, they are hard to find at restaurants. The server was very efficient and nice. She kept our drinks filled and checked on us alot. We loved the decor and the atmosphere at McGraths. It's laid back and they have TVs to watch the games . I might be a regular customer here soon! It's so good!

The food here is always great. Great service and love the atmosphere. I had the Irish Beer Cheese Fog and Jalapeño Heat sliders.

large tables, good for a bunch of people or 2. family type setting but a bar. It'll make everyone but vegetarians happy. Didn't see much of a menu for them. But it's a burger bar! Kids burger is good and a nice size. Adult burger- WOW!! talk about some flavor. Good amount of toppings. Get the garlic fries. Totally worth it. Pay with credit or cash. There is a bar and some beers. I'd avoid wine from here but that's just me. Outdoor seating but due to low staff, they said indoor only. I was happy to see a kids menu and a nice variety of beers. Watch the toilet paper situation before you sit! Really liked the food. Simple menu with MEGA flavor!!!

Burgers were good , fries were my favorite, the inside of the restaurant is very sticky and dirty . Very unappetizing to sit there seeing it while trying to eat my food . Service was nice

Wow my burger was everything. Took a while to get my burger but it was worth the wait. Their fried pickles are the best I ever had. Freaking delicious!!! The jalapeño burger was out so I guess I'll be coming back to try it!!

Branded Irish whiskey burger and fries

After a long night of moderate beer drinking with friends at Big Ugly, one of the boys suggested making a run over to McGrath's. Now I live in Newport News, I'd never heard of this place. We drive the 1/4 mile and settled at a high table. The establishment isn't overly large, it's one room with several high tables and some lower tables. I do like the Irish theme, it does add some unique atmosphere. I ordered the Irish whiskey burger, which was a half pound of beef topped with Jameson glaze, sauteed onions, Dubliner cheddar, and bacon. Pretty hard to mess that combo up! I asked for the burger to be cooked medium and it was closer to well done, the inside was almost all gray. But the beef was juicy so I didn't mind too much. But the highlight was the toppings. They came together perfectly and that's what really made the burger so good. Soft squishy roll always helps also. And very good steak fries too. I'm usually a little wary of those, they're usually undercooked on the inside and not so crispy outside. These were cooked well, but also seasoned nicely with just the right amount of salt and pepper. And when a little of that Jameson glaze dripped onto the fired, well, you can keep your ketchup. And for 13 bucks, that's a fine, fine deal. And points for having Smithwick's on tap! Give me a Smithwick's over a Guinness any day of the week.

The service was good, the ambience was as expected, and so was the food. Nothing spectacular, but not bad. Just an average burger place.

Unfortunately, it ended up being a pretty disappointing experience. When we arrived it wasn't busy at all. My husband ordered a cocktail and we ordered a few appetizers to share. Even though there didn't appear to be any other bar drinks being made, it still took about 15-20 minutes for his drink to come out. We were watching the bar area and neither bartender seemed to be doing anything, so we were confused about the delay. When our food arrived, our waitress noticed both of our drinks were empty and said she'd bring refills on her next "round" but she never came back until it was time for the check. The food itself was also disappointing. It took quite a while to come out and when it finally did, it felt rushed instead of cooked correctly. The volcano shrimp was delicious hot shrimp, but the sauce on it was ice cold, like it had just come out of the refrigerator making it not that appealing. The steamed shrimp were very overcooked and difficult to peel. The fried pickles and calamari were both undercooked, leaving them soggy instead of crispy. We really wanted to love this place, especially after hearing such good things, but we left disappointed. I called the restaurant twice now and was told a GM would return my call and no one has. This restaurant genuinely doesn't care if you're happy or not, they just want your money.

Consistency--both in the kitchen and in the dining room--has made this longtime favorite a reliable choice for those who value substance over flash. The service reflects that same steadiness. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing--always ready with thoughtful suggestions for anyone navigating the menu. I began with the garden salad, a straightforward but well-executed mix of fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweet Vidalia onions, finished with housemade croutons and a balanced balsamic vinaigrette. It's a simple dish done right, which sets the tone for what follows. The she-crab soup--an award-winning staple--delivers exactly what you hope for in a classic rendition. Rich, velvety, and deeply satisfying, it's best enjoyed in a cup unless you plan on making it the centerpiece of your meal. For the entrée, the French Dip stands out as a clear highlight.
