I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Luigi on Sunday nights. It is kind of a secret because if it gets too popular it can become crowded for the small venue. One Sunday night about a few months after Katrina, I came into Mr Toads and there were a whole bunch of French guys. (which is kinda unusual) After awhile I looked at the floor and there were about 15 instrument cases sitting around. It turned out that there were to other bands that night to visit Luigi. One from Montreal returning from LA, and the other New Orleans returning from a fund raising tour. The music normally starts there around 9pm on Sunday, but that night it started about 10:30 (also unusual) because they were talking in French and catching up on stuff. When Luigi, his band, and the visitors started playing jazz standards though, it was as if they had been practicing together their whole life, even though they said they never played together before when I asked them. I've been coming to Mr. Toads since just before Kilgore's place on California street closed. So I really appreciate the nice ambiance and the decore... check out the letter on the wall too. My father in law loves classical AND jazz, so the recycled church windows and pews, along with the jazz sensibilities gave him a wonderful night out. Thanks for everything Mr. Toads... read more

This bar was ridiculous. I gave the waitress $32 for a $29.50 tab and she watched me count it and so did the group I was with. She walked all the way inside and came all the way back out. Handed me $10 back and said I paid her $10 too much and I said uh okay she handed me my tab ticket and we all looked at each other very confused. She walked away and came back 10 minutes later to say she needed a card or more cash. And we argued with her because she stood there and watched me count along with my friend group. And I said I can give you the $10 you gave me back but I've already given you $22. And she proceeded to argue and got her manager. Needless to say no one there can do math because after another 15 minutes they sent a different waitress out to take the $10 back. Which fine. But her other bartender already had $22 from previous. But whatever. And then told us because of the upset she couldn't serve us anymore. Which is fine. We didn't want to give them any more business anyway. It was just a ridiculous experience and people can't math apparently read more

This is a MUST try of Omaha! One of the most conveniently placed bars in the old market. I enjoy starting my night at Mr. Toad. Lots of surrounding bars to migrate to. I'd recommend Mr. Toad to anybody traveling from out of town. Make sure you stop at Havana for a cigar! read more

I had a totally terrible experience here tonight. I was on the patio tonight having a great time with friends when I noticed a guy behind me acting strange with two women. The server asked him to leave and then proceeded to give me a hard time. She asked if I had a problem and that she controlled the patio. And if I didn't like it, I could leave. I was then asked to leave. As a retired military member and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, I do not intend to go back. I will visit her manager on Monday and file a complaint. Plenty of other fine establishments to go to without a hassle. Visit the others. read more

Desperate to catch the end of Game 4 of the ALDS Royals vs Astros game while visiting Omaha we sat out on foot from our hotel. Mister Toad was the first bar we came across with the game on and it turned out to be a great choice. It was our last night in Omaha for a road trip. Decided to try a beer at every place down in the Old Market. The first suggested place, The Tavern, was a bust for us. We saw Mister Toad's our first night there, so we made it our next stop. And we did not leave. It was the perfect atmosphere for us. Relaxed. You can sit outside in a lovely, treed patio with sparkling lights. You're right in the middle of the horse-drawn carriages, bikers, pedestrians. Drinks were affordable - got a whiskey ginger ale for $5.25. They provided ice water throughout the evening. The bar's company was not loud, boisterous or annoying. Everyone was simply pleasant and kind. Would highly recommend. read more

Sorry but I have to disagree with the other reviewers... I love the patio here, but the place is WAY overpriced ($5+ for a Captain and Coke in a short glass!) and never, ever has any specials. If it's nice out and you can get on the patio on payday, go for it. Otherwise go somewhere else. Oh, and they don't have X-Rated or any newer liquors -- hell, they didn't even carry Goldschlager when I was there! Shame on them. read more

Long time dive in the old market with a nice front patio great for people watching. I like the old english decor and they also have live jazz music sometimes. Only real downside is there is no seating at the bar itself- standing room only. read more

I had higher hopes for this place, but the beer selection was average, the staff was surly at best and cleanliness left something to be desired. The location is wonderful though, and I would be inclined to make use of their outdoor patio seating during warmer months. Don't expect customer service from this place. I complained to the manager about the bartender's horrible customer service and all I got was "I'm not sure what I can do for you other than refund your money ($6.25?!)". Seriously?! How about an apology from the establishment and the less-than bartender, Joe!? No. Instead, I was told that indeed either the server or bartender made a mistake interpreting their policy but my complaint was "one side of the story." Wow. Did the manager really think I would contrive a complaint and take the time to drive back to the establishment to talk directly to him for $6.25? It appears the entire staff could stand a bit of training in customer care. This is a shame, because Mr.Toad's is somewhat of an icon in the Omaha Old Market. I grew up in Omaha, but live out of the area. Mr. Toad's has been one of those places I just expect to see when visiting the Old Market. Crossing this one off my list!!!! read more

This is the best pub in Omaha, hands down. If it weren't, it wouldn't have survived to be celebrating 40 years in business! It is clean, the help is kind and quick and it is a bar where you can actually enjoy the art of conversation. I'd give it zero stars if I could. This place has the rudest bartender and staff I have ever encountered. We recently took a large group of visitors from D.C. there for drinks after dinner, and I was totally embarrassed by how downright rude the staff was--yelling at people for trying to find the bathroom; waitresses screaming "MOVE" and "GET OUT OF OUR WAY" at guests waiting to get a drink at the bar; the very rude and disrespectful bartender to anyone trying to order a drink...this list could go on. I was truly astounded that this place is still in business considering the way they treat patrons. Do not go here!!! read more
