I've been here a couple of times and it's always a different experience. Went tonight to listen to a band play and they were awesome! The entertainment made up for the service we received from our server. Rarely came to our table, and when she did, there were drinks left off/forgotten. At the end, our bill had almost 30 dollars worth of food we had not ordered. When speaking to the bar manager, he apologized for the inconvenience and refunded the items incorrectly charged. While his customer service was appreciated, our experience was tainted by the servers lack of attention and clear interruption (by things behind the bar). Fun, fun and more fun. With some tasty food thrown in. That about sums up our experience at Misuta Chow's. I'm a sucker for good theming and this place is picture takers paradise. Not only are there tons of places to take some candid shots (including the photo booth upstairs), but the food is beautiful as well. We went in unsure of what to expect from the food as the reviews went both ways, we ended up quite happy with our choices, but more on that below. The restaurant is located on the lower level and made to look like you are in a Japanese alleyway. A big plus for us were the hours. Unlike so many places downtown that close between lunch and dinner (or don't open at all until four(, they stay open throughout which happened to be perfect for us as it was a weekday and we had tickets to the 6:00 Bisons game. Other than a couple patrons at the bar, we had the place to ourselves. Our server was the bartender who told us he was doing both during the slow hours of the day. I found this to be a great alternative to a place closing during slow hours. He was a little nervous because he hadn't been a server in ages, but he was great! The menu is pretty varied with some really creative choices. I feel like we need to go back to try everything. Ramen burrito? Salmon Roe Deviled Eggs? Yes, please! We ended up ordering four items to share, which ended up being much more than what we needed, but as I said above, we wanted to try all the things. Pricing is very reasonable, but it does add up quick when you are ordering multiple items, so it's good to keep that in mind when ordering, especially when you throw drinks into the mix. Our server was great explaining menu items to us, and helped us narrow down our choices which were Karaage Chicken, salmon and cucumber roll, the Nippon Yokocho Burger and a Donburi Kusiyaki Bowl w/chicken yakitori and Japanese fried rice. Everything was not only pretty to look at but really good. I just have to say it, I'm still insanely jealous that my husbands food came in a Hello Kitty Bowl. The sushi items (roll & Burger) were very fresh as sushi should be. The "burger" is beautiful to look at, super creative and so delicious. The "bun" is a fried rice ball with tuna, avocado and radishes in between. The crispy rice with the tuna was just perfect, huge hit with us. The Karaage chicken was a great starter and a great choice if you take picky eaters. The bowls would also be a great choice for picky eaters, the Japanese fried rice is great! The menu might look intimidating as it's so varied, but there is definitely something for everyone. I also liked that while they included sushi on the menu, they kept it simple rather than having pages and pages of choices. Overall a simple yet complex menu with both standard and creative choices. I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu, items he ramen burrito will be next! A few random notes on our visit: The food came out a bit slow, but it gave us time to go take pictures on the pink staircase, which is a must do. The water was room temp w/o ice. Americans are used to always having ice, so I can see this throwing some people off. Don't miss the gorgeous mural on the back of the building, you can see it from Washington Street. Make sure you have some extra time not only for pictures but to play some skee ball or pinball, we only had time to look around upstairs, but we'll be back. The bathrooms. I'm not sure if they are the way they are to fit with a "street feel" or if the theming just ended there. Ordered the shrimp and lobster fried rice and got home and started to eat it and the lobster wasn't fully cooked and smelled like ammonia, so it was definitely spoiled. Called them the next day because they were already closed and manager said "they aren't responsible for anything that happens once the food leaves the restaurant" WTH SERIOUSLY! Never been told that by a restaurant ever before. But no problem won't be going there again and I encourage you all not to waste your time there either. read more

Misuta Chow's is a poor execution of the barcade trend! Located on Main St. in DT Buffalo, Misuta Chow's rest on the front side of a self-serve paid parking lot on Washington and W. Mohawk St. There is an unmarked back door on the far right-hand side. However, the front entrance faces Main, and sits right next Hatchets & Hops (the bar where inebriated patrons throw sharp axes at targets!) There is a very large window in front that looks upon the downstairs bar. Seating for food service is by an open-front kitchen, both located towards the back-half of the establishment. Further back on the right are two bathrooms and the famous pink stair case on the left. This painted staircase is the back staircase to the upstairs, where another bar, two more bathrooms and some coin-op arcade games are located. My party arrived just after 6:30 on a Thursday and were instantly seated in an empty dining area. The pass-through area was very tight, and was blocked by 5 (or so) employees and patrons. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered quickly and within 20 minutes he brought over almost every appetizer, Ramen burritos, stuffed chicken, an octopus dog, things with shrimp, and their take on a Pork Belly Bao. Service was excellent, attentive, and fast. The food, however, was not such a great experience. The app with octopus and the dog itself were chewy. The shrimp was very "fishy" tasting. All 3 Ramen burritos lacked flavor, mostly tasted like plain noodles, and were very dry. The stuffed chicken was excellent, and deliciously crispy. The Pork Belly Bao were served more like a taco, and while the fresh radish overpowered (less is more), the overall flavors were refreshing. Everyone at my table complained about one thing or another, no one felt satisfied or happy after their meal. That, breaks an old cooks heart! My honest opinion is that the menu needs work, tweaking, and some flavor profile testing. The way it sits now I wouldn't look forward to eating here again! Climbing either the front stairs or the back, as I found no other means to go upstairs, led to another bar and the arcade. At first glance the arcade host a lot of what was around Buffalo in the late '80s. Galaga, Double Dragon, Pinball machines, Rampage, Tapper, TMNT, 1943, Street Fighter II, Off Road, Mrs. Pac-Man, Q-bert, Tron, Centipede, ski ball, and a few more! All games cost .50 and pinball machines were $1 per play. Most of what we tried, did not function! TMNT's Leonardo controls could not move to the right. The Walking Dead pinball machine had a broken plunger. Tapper had a burnt out display, and the Iron Maiden pinball machine ate quarters on the left slot. The rest of the games were so packed in around an oddly placed table area that it made it uncomfortable to play most of them. I was literally 1 inch from the person standing and drinking behind me while trying to enjoy a game of 1943. If all games functioned, the "fun factor" may have overshadowed the lack of space and otherwise poor execution of this entire concept. Decor, current choice of arcade titles, fully stocked bar and trendy location are all this place has going for it. Food was an extreme disappointment and the half-functioning retro arcade is better off ignored. I've studied, enjoyed, and written about video games for more than a decade. I have more than 1,000 pieces published. I grew up during the Golden-era of arcades. I really wanted to love this Japanese influenced bar with an arcade upstairs. I really did. This is such a cool restaurant. I've always driven by it but never got to try it until yesterday. And it was great!! I've been trying to find a good ramen place ever since I went to japan last year. And this one was awesome! The ramen was very tasty. I ordered the shoyu ramen. It was already pretty spicy which I like, but I still added some more spice. But the flavor was great. I also ordered the gyoza, the chicken bao buns, and my friend ordered the chicken karaage. It all was delicious. And soooo glad I found a place that does bao buns. Those are literally my favorite. Neo Tokyo meets arcade meets WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE. Great place to chill, eat, grab a drink, play arcade games, and feel like you are in the film Bladerunner. The style and attention to detail here is phenomenal! The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I came here before their official open date, before they had their drink menus printed, and the bartender created a drink for me with gin and Japanese flair. A group of my friends also visited after the grand opening and it was popping. However, there was still room upstairs at the second bar and plenty of open spots on the arcade games. Many people come to have a photo shoot on the pink stairs, and luckily, they are towards the back of the restaurant and you can easily avoid any social media fiends that may interfere with your experience! Do yourself a favor and pay tribute to the late great Anthony Bourdain and eat here. I should leave it at that, but the food was just absolutely flavorful. The size of the tuna avocado burger was a bit small; that's probably my only criticism. Yet the dish was delicious. Raw tuna, avocado, spinach and radish all on a toasted sesame seed rice bun! It's a bit messy but I'm all about it. My friend got the pork ramen. This dish will spoil you. You can never go back to another ramen again. Things I liked...... the cocktail I had (I forgot the name) was super delicious (like a spiked lemonade) I could have downed 3 of them (but not at $12 a drink) .... also the udon bowl with mushrooms was delicious (my boyfriend was kind of put off by the pork fat but I liked it) my father really enjoyed his ramen burrito (he would have liked it spicier too ) Things they could work on..... the arcade upstairs is great but a lot of the games (understandably old as they are retro) did not work and took our money.... maybe some extra maintenance on some of those games is needed. Also it was never said online that only a limited menu is offered until 3pm -5pm on Sunday . If it says online the restaurant opens at 3pm it should also specify that it means only the bar or that the full menu is offered after a certain hour, we were hungry and wanted to try some sushi or rice options too! I also loved those shrimp dumplings but 3 small bites for $8 is a bit too steep .... maybe double it for the money. Oh hey new hipster bar!! I had heard there was this new hipster bar in town and I had to try it for the octopus tentacle in a hot dog roll!!!! While I ended up hitting this place kinda late around 11, it was already packed and definitely the place to be. We grabbed some drinks and placed a food order and ate at the food bar away from the craziness of the bar. I was so amped for this tentacle that I had heard so much about it. While the vibe in the place is super cute and you feel like you're in another place, the tentacle fell short for me. It was too much bread and the tentacle played a good supporting actress. I am glad that I got the pork belly because that stole the show for me. It was cooked perfectly over a bed of rice and presented in this super cute hello kitty cup. I wasn't able to venture upstairs where the cool arcsince we kinda drank one round of drinks and dined 'n dashed but for sure next time I will be more adventurous! Place had a cool vibe. Didn't like paying $1.50 for a straw (even if you get to keep the metal straw). They didn't have a full menu of their drink offerings yet, but if was a week or so after they opened. What I had was tasty though I felt a smidgen overpriced. It was the frośe (frozen rośe slushie). If you love old school people pinball and arcade games , head straight up to the second floor . Though there is not necessarily a large number of games , the options are definitely respectable . Being that they have my favorites - PAC Man , Galaga and Centipede, I was set for the evening . Most games seemed to be 50 cents each . There is a bar on this floor as well . The decor is perfect for the concept , each area had a different look - I adored the pink glittery Hello Kitty stairs to the back , who does that ? Lol . The restaurant - not sure it is open just yet , I didn't inquire - definitely look forward to checking it out . The beer selection was more than adequate ( Coors Lite , for those like my date who aren't too adventurous , is split size , FYI ). We've been wanting something like this in Buffalo for a long time. The games are all located on the second floor. There's a bar on the first floor and second floor-both are awesome. I love that there a large open balcony feel on the second floor over looking Main St. They have a really nice collection of local spirits and are not using straws. I really enjoyed my first visit to this highly-discussed spot! I enjoyed the cocktail I got, the Yamu Yamu! The cinnamon and citrus flavors were very interesting and I would definitely get it again. As for dinner, I got a rice bowl with a chicken skewer and boy was I in love. The flavors were perfectly balanced and I was pretty full by the end of it. And it was served in a Hello Kitty bowl, how cute! My friend and I didn't play the games in the arcade, but of course we went upstairs and looked! The second floor looked pretty happening, I'll probably hang there a bit more next time I go. My only complaint was that the service was not the best when we went. We stood up front for about 5-10 minutes before being seated, despite the staff seeing us and there being no line or wait at all. Once we were seated, it took our waitress 10 minutes before she came and greeted us and took our order. Maybe it was all a fluke but we didn't understand why it was taking so long considering the restaurant had practically no one eating at the time! Absolutely loved it here! We came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty but I chose this time of day for that reason. We stopped at the bar on the first floor for some drinks and took them upstairs to the arcade area. Upstairs is filled with throwback arcade games like Pac-Man, from, skeeball, pinball, and tons of others. They have a change machine or prepare to bring a lot of quarters. Each machine takes 50 cents to a dollar. There was another bar upstairs and a cool lounge area. Of course we had to check out the famous pink stairs which were even cooler in person. When we finally ran out of quarters we headed back downstairs and checked out the menu at the bar again this time for food. The guys got the octopus hotdog and I got the pork belly. The cuisine here is not my favorite usually but I had to try something. The pork belly was very flavorful and the guys said the octopus wasn't bad. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I've been here almost five times now (I once came and immediately had to come out - long story), and I've always had a great experience. Great staff and great service is just half the battle for a lot of restaurants. This was my first tune ordering food here and just like the service - remarkable. This was a very cool location and it was awesome to get a chance to relive parts of my childhood by playing all of the Nintendo games of my youth. After running through about 20 dollars in quarters we settled in for a quick lunch and a few drinks. I opted for the Tako Sand (octopus hotdog) and my wife ordered the Yakiton. A new hipster bar in town and it's Misuta Chow's! It's a nice multilevel bar with a Japanese street restaurant with one bar on the first floor and upstairs there is another bar with classic arcade games. The three times I've been here have been all extremely different. My first time: My boyfriend and I are close enough where we can walk so we decided to try the Japanese street food restaurant part of Misuta Chow's on a weekday. We ordered several dishes - sushi, pork buns (Nikuman), Takoyaki, and Karaage Chicken. The food itself I would say is a 3.5/5. It wasn't anything super spectacular or filling. It was also on the pricey side in my opinion. If I'm spending $45 on a meal for 2 people, I would expect to feel full or satisfied. However, I was a fan of their frozen rose. I have also been to Misuta Chow's on a Friday / Saturday night. It can be difficult to grab a drink at times since so many people crowd around the bar and the bartender doesn't always get to you right away, but it's fun to do something different and play some classic arcade games and it takes you back to your childhood. I just really wish there were tables or cup holders around. How are you going to hang out at a barcade without somewhere to hold your drink AND play a video game at the same time? Not possible. I'd say that's the biggest frustration, even if your friend is holding your drink. I had lunch on two occasions here with a friend and we both enjoyed the ambience, food, service, and overall atmosphere of the joint. Misuta Chow's feels to me like a grown up version of Tokyo Disneyland, not that I've actually ever been to Tokyo Disneyland. As soon as you step inside, you're transported to a Japanese alley, complete with apartment windows with an a/c unit, a billboard for Japanese whiskey, garage doors with graffiti, a kimono shop with a display window, and adjacent rooftops with twinkle lights between. The level of detail is Disney-level amazing (check out the rust "stains" on the apartment building exterior) and I couldn't stop smiling at the little touches I saw. If you've ever been on Rock n Roller Coaster at Disney World, think of the alley you wait in - similar feeling. We stopped in around 9 on a Thursday night and it had a good vibe, definitely not packed but all seats at the bars were taken at first. The music was awesome - great mix of 80s jams! Upstairs is a second bar and an arcade room with pinball, old-school arcade games (Galaga, Donkey Kong, Tapper, etc.), and skee-ball! They have change machines available so don't worry about scrounging up quarters, just bring a few bills. I'm not a huge arcade gamer but my boyfriend had fun playing a few rounds of Tron. The drink menu is varied between the two bars; the upstairs bar has specialty cocktails and canned and bottled beer, and the downstairs bar has the specialty cocktails, draft beer, and frosé (frozen rosé slushie!) as well as canned and bottled beer. You can open a tab at either of the bars and add drinks or close them out from upstairs or downstairs, which I really liked. I got the Hello Kitty which is pink, tropical, and comes with GLITTER in it. It was yummy but not very potent. Then we went downstairs and got some sake and a frosé, which was delicious! I could have had many of those! Prices are reasonable for the area, about $8-$11 per drink. We didn't have any food but the yakitori looked great. I was really happy with the bartenders. They were super friendly, patient, and helpful when choosing drinks and prompt when we wanted to order more drinks and with the tab. I'm a sucker for a themed bar and this one hit all the marks - unique, thoughtful, super fun and playful without being disrespectful, great drinks, awesome service, and food options. My daughter and her boyfriend are in town visiting from NYC, and she was eager to try a hot new restaurant in Buffalo. She had heard great things about this place, so off we went, a party of five. It has a very sleek, impressive decor - modern Asian. The stairway leading up to the 2nd floor arcade is entirely pink, with subtle Hello Kitty decals cleverly placed about. Refreshingly unique. The food. What I tasted was delicious. Five people each ordered a plate with the expectation of sharing bites among us. Now, I am familiar with the tapas concept, but never have I seen a serving that was barely a bite for one person. Until tonight. The drinks were great, although they were out of at least three selections on the beer menu. I ordered a Frose, a refreshing rose, strawberry and lemon blended cocktail. Came here since it's right next to the hotel and the great arcade upstairs looked amazing. But the food was just OK. I had some ramen which didn't stand out and 3 parents of our team actually got sick. Maybe this was a one off situation because the reviews on the place looked so good. But I was barred from recommending any other place to eat during our trip to buffalo. read more

I have yet to try the food. This review is based off the bar and upstairs arcade only. The games are pricey so we ended up only playing a few for kicks and the drinks are normal downtown bar price. A new Pac-Man champion meets samurai warrior location in downtown Buffalo. The vibe is pretty upbeat with the cool bar on the 1st floor and arcade games on the 2nd flood. IF THERE IS ONE THING TO DO BEFORE SUMMER ENDS is try the Frosé (Frozen Rosé). On the two occasions I've been here with coworkers and family, there have been a few kids walking around with their Shirley Temples and quarters. God, I really wanted to love this place. At 4:45 on a Sunday, I couldn't get anyone to take my drink order at the bar. Then my date arrived, and we couldn't get anyone to seat us. There was plenty of staff there, including the owner, but we were apparently invisible. When I asked to be seated, the owner went out of her way to be standoffish and rude. They were out of all four bao buns. Out of short ribs, too. I had a $5 cup of wonton soup. It was fine. read more
