My friend had the Turtle Sundae which I though tasted okay mostly because the ice-cream was melting and it had pecan nuts inside. On my most recent visit (August 2019), I tried a small spoon sample of the vegan caramel ice-cream with pecan nuts. I liked it but I hate nuts in my ice-cream. I ended up buying the caramel sea salt and the cookies & cream ice cream in a cup. The caramel sea salt has a slight burnt sea salt taste which pairs well with the sweet caramel. Besides Ice-Cream, you can also buy milkshakes, malts, and fresh fruit smoothies. Mitchell's Ice-Cream is great and because of the large menu options, you'll most likely find an ice-cream that you like. Mitchell's is a Cleveland area staple and for good reason. The ice cream is smooth, creamy, and flavorful. If frozen yogurt is your thing, you're in luck. My personal favorite is the peanut butter chocolate pretzel which is peanut butter frozen yogurt with a generous helping of chocolate covered pretzels balls mixed throughout. When my mood is a bit more classic, I go for the cookies and cream or the mint chocolate chunk. So good! Each Mitchell's location includes a train that runs along the upper border of the facility walls, and also includes a smaller children's table with crayons and paper to color. We had to figure out Mitchell's system during Covid time. You don't go inside. All parking spots have signs for curbside pickup. Pull in your vehicle. An employee will come out to take your ice cream order, and you pay then. After a short time your order appears. Some people eat their ice cream in their vehicle. Some people leave. We sat in the grass and ate our ice cream. There are also two city benches on the sidewalk to sit on. Note that the Key lime ice cream was the real deal. They weren't lying when they said it's the best ice cream in Cleveland! There are so many great flavors and you can get them each however you like your ice cream-- as a milkshake, in a cup, in a cone, with sprinkles, or as a sundae. Quality ice cream with an array of seasonal flavors available, and great long standing flavors too. Some personal favorites include wildberry crumble, tiramisu, turtle brownie, and the amaretto cookie at Christmas time! The vegan chocolate is hands down the best dairy free ice cream I've ever had! So creamy and rich and amazing. They have a variety of vegan flavors available, as well as sorbets, and frozen yogurt in addition to ice cream. The workers at this location are generally very friendly, kind, and helpful! They are patient with you yet quick. A lovely experience each time! Only improvement would be parking--while it's better than street parking the lot at this location is incredibly small! Although Mitchell's ice cream is good, I honestly don't really understand the hype. I had been to Mitchell's a few times; more so in high school and college and I never really could tell why everyone raved about it like it was the best ice cream in Cleveland. I would say it's pretty much your average scoop shop. Most recently, I went to this location in Rocky River. Ironically, the night before at my sister's wedding, I was arguing with my uncle about who had better ice cream; Malley's or Mitchell's. I told my uncle I was going to take my boyfriend to Malley's the next day. However, I had a rude awakening when I found out Malley's was closed for Memorial Day. So I took my boyfriend to Mitchell's instead (and met up with my newlywed sis and brother-in-law!). All in all, my assessment of Mitchell's hasn't changed. The ice cream is good. But it's just your average scoop shop with various flavors. The consistency of the ice cream is good. I just am not over-the-moon for it and I'd choose Malley's 100% of the time over Mitchell's (as long as they're open obviously). Malley's resonates with that nostalgic, 1950's soda shop vibe-- all about the experience. They have excellent hot fudge, candies, a frickin carousel you can sit on while you eat your ice cream (only at the North Olmsted location). Compared to that, Mitchell's just seems basic. All in all, I'd go back to Mitchell's on the few days out of the year when Malley's is closed. Their ice cream is good, but not as good as it gets. read more

Does this place even need to be reviewed anymore? There is no ice cream place in Cleveland more iconic than Mitchell's. It's that place that is so beloved by everyone that you want to hate it just to be cool and different, but you literally can't because the quality of the ice cream, flavor options, customer service, business ethics and sustainability practices (at least to my knowledge/what they've shared) are just so good. I can't even pick one favorite flavor and almost always try all of the seasonal options every time I go. I think Amaretto cookie (winter seasonal) has got to be a favorite as well as lavender (if that flavor is still around--summer seasonal). The taster's duo is the best deal--for a few cents more than a single (or maybe it's the same price? Can't remember I just get it) you can pick 2 flavors (and they sometimes pack it almost as much as a double but I'm not here to expose any worker for being generous). After dinner one night in Ohio City, we tried to go to Mitchell's but the line was out the door. Luckily, this location was on our way home. Winning! This was my first visit and it was a treat! I had a scoop of banana cream pie and a scoop of chocolate peanut butter cup. It was actually a split scoop but they had a different name for it. Perhaps it was a dual scoop? The banana ice cream exceeded my expectations. It had incredible depth of flavor with marshmallow ribboned inside and shortbread crust that gave it that "pie" feel. I need to have more chocolate peanut butter ice cream in my life! It would have been fine standing alone but the added textural component of peanut butter cups took it over the top! Combine both of these flavors and there was literally a party in my mouth! The staff was engaging, friendly, and very helpful. They had a roomful of customers and each was smiling and ready to go! The parking lot was a bit crowded but customers were coming and going at a regular clip. A cute train was running overhead about a foot below the ceiling. In North East Ohio there are essentially two Ice Cream shops that you need to be aware of. Jeni's and Mitchell's. They are both amazing, as for Mitchell's Ice Cream it is a perfect way to end the day. They are constantly making new flavors of ice cream each one as amazing as the last, and have all the staples that you would expect from a small-town ice cream shop from complex brownie sundaes, to banana splits, to root beer floats. The ice cream flavors are trendy, yet classic with flavors such as lemon sorbet and other staples such as salted caramel. The ice cream is very soft, consistent in texture, I have yet to find any ice chips (a huge positive over some places). I personally and a fan of their sundaes, anything with hot fudge and whipped cream and I sold. Stop on in if you are in the area, the line may look daunting however the always friendly staff manage to keep it moving a light speed and you will be happily cooling off with some of your favorite ice cream in no time. read more
