I was going to MCU and I noticed this food truck. I was starving, so I decided to try it out. I got the whiting fish dinner with mac and cheese and collard greens. With the tip, it came up to about $19. The service was okay, nothing memorable. The whiting was good--well-seasoned without being too salty. The mac and cheese was good too, but the collard greens was a miss for me. It had a sweet taste, which is not what I was expecting. I didn't even finish it. Overall, it was okay. Wow I have been wanting to go to the Brooklyn location but when I saw the food truck in downtown Manhattan I was ready and waiting. The whitey fish was flavorful and lightly beer breading was so delicious. Then the tarter sauce also had flavor almost a lime ranch taste it went so well with the fries. The person who took the order was very nice and honest about the wait. I will try it again this time catfish. This is a nice food truck of soul food that I don't come across often enough near my work place. I was in awe that they had this by my job. I quickly glimpse through the menu and knew what I wanted. I wanted to try all the sides but I guess I save it for next time. I decided to get the catfish dinner that includes two sides so I chose Mac and cheese and collard greens. Mac and cheese tasted really good and was not too wet. Collard greens were steamed to perfection. Catfish was really big, they served two pieces. It was a lot of food for $18. Here's the Scoop: I had my first experience with GG's fish truck. The portions were awesome, the price reasonable. The food was seasoned and so, so tasty. My first experience was their downtown Brooklyn near the MTA building. My second experience was an event held at my church during the summer like 1 week later and I was so surprised but very happy to get the catfish platter again. Crispy and delicious!!! The collard greens & mac and cheese is tasty too. They have a very nice menu but the food goes fast. They also have delicious desserts. I was walking by the corner of Fulton and Broadway in Manhattan when I saw this food truck there for the first time. It was late in the day so they did not have much left, but I ordered a couple of whiting plates with fries. Very tasty! The chips were a bit soggy, but good. The whiting also came with a little plastic container of good coleslaw and they gave me both tarter and hot sauce. I may be dating myself but back in the day in the 1970's one used to go the the Jewish delis on the Lower East Side and buy a big bag of cooked turkey tails. Fatty, juicy and delicious. And beautiful crispy wings too. What happened?? Now when I search for turkey tails, they don't sell them in Manhattan, you got to venture out to Jackson Heights to find 'em. That's "progress" for ya. I'd love a big dish of turkey tails right now! Anyway, back to GG, this time the whiting was crispy and lovely. The chips were crisper. My two kids and me devoured the wings and the fish. Two whiting plates and one order of wings set me back $39, which was a bit on the high side but reasonable for Manhattan. So on Wednesday, I went back to Fulton and Broadway and no truck to be found. The horror. I was salivating for more turkey wings. I'm going to buy some wings and tails and try cooking them myself. So if you can locate the food truck, I highly recommend you find this one. I paid cash but they take credit cards and Apple Pay, for the doofus generation that doesn't carry cash. You'd better hoard some gold and silver, kids, the crash is coming. Loved everything about GG's. It was my first time in New York & I couldn't get enough of it. I stayed in NY 4 days. I ate GG's everyday. The fried shrimp combo was ever so fresh! Very crispy and well seasoned! Same with the shrimp & whiting combo! I'm from the South and love some fish chi. It was very delicious paired with some hot sauce. The sides I enjoyed were the Rice & Peas, Mac & cheese, cabbage, & collard greens. Babbyyy! That rice & peas is something serious! Absolutely LOVED it! The Mac was cheesy but not too cheesy, which I loved. It was also very flavorable! The strawberry & peach lemonade was very delicious! Had to go back for seconds! The cheesecake & banana pudding were also very good! Came in these convenient little containers which were perfect for a nice serving that wasn't too less and not too much.
