I came here for the 10-year anniversary promotion for the $5 chicken biscuit. It's been a while since I've had Pies 'n' Thighs, and this was always one of my favorite things to order from them. The chicken was perfectly fried and juicy, with hot sauce on a fresh honey butter biscuit. Definitely still hits the spot! I also got a side of collard greens, which were just okay for me. But I will say the customer service was on point. Different staff members checked on me throughout my visit to make sure I had everything I needed and that everything was meeting my expectations. The restaurant was also clean and inviting. I tried the bourbon pecan pie with pieces of chocolate too, and it was just right. Chicken was so crispy and didn't feel greasy at all! It was also juicy and not dry. Also recommend the biscuit and gravy dish - the gravy was so good! Can skip the fried catfish. This time the thighs, next time we will be back for the pies. On a scorching July 4th day, our family came here to celebrate America's 250th birthday with some good classic American comfort food. It's been years since I visited their original Williamsburg location. I was glad that this new location opened up near our neighborhood and couldn't wait to try it out. We wanted lots of their fried chicken, so we ordered both the fried chicken box and the chicken and waffles. We also ordered the catfish and grits. Let's start with the glorious fried chicken. A quick bite through its golden and crispy skin led to the juicy, but still hot, meat inside. As I gingerly took my bite, I was wondering how the crispy skin didn't leave a greasy taste in my mouth at all. Then, I noticed that the waffles here were on the softer side, which made sense given how crispy the chicken skin was. The catfish also provided a great contrast in texture with its cornmeal coated exterior and cheesy, creamy grits underneath. Finally, the biscuit that came with the fried chicken box also left an impression given how the exterior had a similar texture to the crispy chicken skin, with a buttery and moist goodness inside. The heat definitely affected our appetite negatively as we didn't have any room for pies this time. Overall, the service was nice and attentive. I came in around 9:15pm on a weeknight, and the staff were very accommodating and didn't rush me despite their closing time of 10pm. I ordered a chicken sandwich, which was filled with lots of toppings (they didn't skimp on the bacon), and found it satisfying though a bit awkward to handle, since the bun was considerably smaller than the rest of the sandwich. I do wish the sandwich had a more interesting sauce than just mayo, but perhaps I can fix that myself next time by bringing a lil something. With a sandwich, you have the option to choose a side, and I picked the mac 'n' cheese, which was rich and creamy and hit the spot. I also grabbed a slice of the sour cherry and pear pie to-go, a pleasant dessert to accompany my rewatching Twin Peaks. Overall, the food was decent, the staff were very polite, and the restaurant itself was tidy. The pricing seemed a bit steep from my first glance at the menu, but I suppose it's standard for a sit-down spot in the neighborhood, and they do offer good-sized portions. No complaints in the food at all! Everything was delicious. The biscuit had a great outer layer, stayed fluffy and held its own when the chicken was added. The catfish was seasoned well and solid portions were given. The cheese grits were a bit bland but everyone likes their grits different, I doctored mine up with some salt and pepper. This is where I took away a star, the salt shaker was sticky and trying to get my waiters (he was also the only bar tender) was tough. Lastly, the bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, the floor was sticky like a club not even 2 hours of the establishment being open. We came the week of opening and it was packed and busy the entire time we there. Kitchen definitely felt slammed because our food took a long time. The servers kept coming by to apologize but they were probably not expecting quite the crowd. Overall good chicken not the very best I ever had but good. I walked in without a reservation before heading to a Liberty game. I was seated promptly and I appreciate being asked if I preferred a table or the bar even though I was dining solo. I ordered the Chicken & Waffles as well as a Sweet Tea. The food came out quickly which was nice since I was headed to Barclays. The chicken was good. Not the best I've ever had but it was good. I was excited to visit this new location but unfortunately the food was underwhelming and disappointing. Don't get me wrong the service was great, friendly staff but the food missed everything. It was so bland no salt nothing. I asked for scrambled eggs with cheese and the eggs weren't even fresh and had no cheese which I was charged extra for the cheese no biggie. The catfish tasted so fishy and bland I had to drown it in Tabasco sauce. The grits were also a no I was confused by the color the cheese they sprinkled on top didn't even melt I was concerned about that. The side of bacon stale and old probably from the day prior. I was the first customer of the day as soon as they opened so it was empty. The mimosa came in a small cup I was surprised. But honestly the food was a no go. It's not very filling for $12 original price but $5 was great. The chicken was good but nothing special. The service was really slow though. The second time I went over? My second visit to this location. First time was fine but this time there were a lot of unforced errors. I used to love the Williamsburg location way back when it first opened. Ordered a painkiller frozen cocktail and piece of pie while waiting for takeaway. Frozen cocktail machine was not yet cold/slushy enough so I had to order something else. Got the bloody mary instead and it was honestly pretty lousy. Got the check and noticed I was charged for the painkiller and not the slightly less expensive bloody mary I got instead. They had to do a void and adjustment to the check. When I got home I noticed that one of the three pieces of chicken was laughably anemic and small. The other two were only acceptably medium-small. Tasted good, though. Coleslaw was a weird joke of a grey porridge. And the kicker? They forgot one of my sides so I had to go back out again and get it. It was okay. And the cost for all of this? Almost 80 bucks! (Though I did and do always tip 20%) I want this place to succeed! Here are some tips: - Fire up that frozen drinks machine before opening so your cocktails are ready to go when you open on a hot day. - Take care when creating the check - Take care not to forget items for takeaway - Ditch the tiny wings and provide larger chicken pieces at such a price - Fix the disappointing bloody mary and coleslaw They're new and I'll probably be back eventually to see if things change. read more

I remember visiting their Williamsburg location years ago and seen that they have a new location so I figured I'd stop by while shoe shopping. I went one afternoon where it wasn't busy and got a table. I remember the chicken n biscuit was a standout the last time so I ordered that and 3 sides (cheese grits, collard greens and coleslaw). Server said they were out of slaw so I ordered the mac n cheese instead which I was glad I did because that was the standout from the three. I'm not a collards connoisseur but I wasn't impressed. I thought with the pork there would be flavor but.. just tasted sour? The Grits were bland even though there was cheddar cheese on it. So far my favorite restaurant doing the Grits the way I like is ,The Smith. The Mac n cheese was the only dish I finished so that should tell you everything. Lol. The chicken biscuit was also the standout. A drizzle of hot sauce on the chicken was enough to bring the flavor. Lovely crunch. Love the honey butter. Wished there was more. Maybe as a side if you want to spread more on the biscuit? For drinks I had the Hibiscus cooler, which was fine, and, feeling adventurous a Bloody Mary. It was, as advertised, spicy and had a lovely presentation and quite large but its good for the price. The beans was u see cooked and hard as they were under cooked and hard.I sent my chicken back only to get back to work and it was still pink and under cooked. This location is so incredibly disappointing. I tried the original location first and fell in love with the fried chicken. I ended up ordering delivery from this location and the chicken was fried PERFECTLY but had no seasoning whatsoever. Whatever theyre a new location, it happens. So i go in person, order to go. I get home, same thing: super crunchy , beautiful color but ZERO seasoning. I guess I was determined to give them a chsnce because today was my 3rd order. Well once again, NO FLAVOR. The reason im giving 2 stars is the baked goods. The biscuit is fantastic, the cinnamon roll is the best I had and the pies are all good. I wanted to love them so much but 3 times and Im done. I came here the week it opened, I had never heard of it.. then found out the original was in Williamsburg. The manager was very welcoming and even asked my opinion on the music selection.. you could tell he valued the opinion of the patrons. I had the catfish meal, the grits were a bit grainy but the flavor was there, I enjoyed the fish and cornbread. I don't eat cold slaw so no review there. It was def worth the money. read more
