[Coronavirus review] Open for takeout during corona, and ordering online was easy enough. The shopping center they're in was all sorts of Indian, and this is a dessert-focused place, though they offer vegetarian savory dishes as well. It was not the easiest parking lot to enter (though this restaurant is in a more spacious section and not the narrow one that runs parallel to the main road). They do offer curbside pickup. I came craving sweets but I wanted to try the thali (a sampler platter) as well to see if it would be worth returning to get a full serving of their chickpeas. Definitely yes; the small sample of channa was sweet and savory and one of the more flavorful renditions of the dish I can recall having. The other small vegetarian street foods, particularly the veg chop, were tasty. Indian sweets are an interesting niche. I eat a ton of Indian food, but not so much desserts; the American palate just isn't used to this stuff. The vegan sampler I got was a series of gram flour-based balls and slices, an oddly hearty dessert. It was interesting but I can't say I'm giving up ice cream. Beverages: I ordered the malasa chai and it was truly the worst that I've ever had. Very much watered down, maybe a hint of chai present? I didn't even finish half my cup because it was truly just hot water with a dab of steamed milk. The cashier noticed that my cup was mostly full as I was leaving and I mentioned that I was not a fan. I still paid, but I won't be ordering this item from here again. Food: I was a discouraged by the chai, so I didn't try anything else. However, what I saw others order both smelled and looked great. All of the baked goods are currently pre-packaged (I assume baked there but packed for health hygiene reasons). Environment: Small and cute shop. Extremely friendly cashier (too much for me, but others interacting with him seemed to enjoy it). A few tables inside. Came here on a whim since we just noticed it! I didn't go in, my bf did since we had the dog in the car. I stayed with the dog. He said everything is prepacked and you just point to what you want and then pay. The sweets were really really good and taste just how I remember them from india. I have been to this store many times over last couple of years. Host is very welcoming. The sweets they carry are the most authentic bengali sweets I have seen in North Carolina (may be they are the only store who makes bengali sweets). If you love sweets that are less sweet sandesh are the perfect option, if you would like slightly more sweet they do have chum-chum etc. We have tried their samosa couple of times. Stopped by the place after dinner for dessert. Did not disappoint. I tried the kaju sandesh which was good. BUT THEIR KAJU AND PISTA BARFI. That's ecstacy. The Pista being the clear winner. The happiness my taste buds feel . So obviously try the pista barfi, so the store is vegan so they don't use Ghee in their sweets which a key element for my Indian palate, it adds the oomph factor. It's not bad but the pista barfi does have the oomph factor (yes I'm strongly advocating for it). I did try the raabri and the maalpova, that was good too. Pour some raabri on top of the maalpova, ask for the maalpova to be heated if you are planning to eat at the store. The store is small with 3 tables from what I recollect. Great sweets, good food, but pricey. A single samosa ($2.49) and a really small chai ($3.49) came up to $6.47. The reason I'm giving this place only 2 stars is because the owner Craig badmouthed all neighboring restaurants the whole time I was there. He said the food was "s**t" - his words, and that they added MSG. He especially targeted nearby Biriyani Xprx - but I wasn't sure how anyone would add MSG in a biriyani. (I like the Biriyani at Biriyani Xprx- it's one of my family's favorite eating places, so I was not pleased!). There was a customer before me, and Craig told me that he convinced the guy's wife not to eat anywhere else! IMO, that was neither necessary nor ethical! After that, I went to another business nearby, and the lady there told me that he badmouthed the other restaurants to her as well, exactly as he had done to me!! And then I went across the street to another business, and a young lady there told me the same thing!!! Not making this up!!! I think that if you run a business, there's no need to malign your competitors in the area. Also, Mithai has been there for some years. They bought a chappathi making machine and has had it in the back for a couple of years now. Every time we go there, he keeps saying we'll have fresh chappathis, that they're going to be "the only place in the Triangle" offering fresh chappathis. I think they should either do it or shut up. And shut up about other restaurants, period. They sell an expensive little samosa that tastes the same as others selling samosas in the area for less. read more

This is a small Indian sweets store and I went in upon finding about it on Yelp. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by how good the desserts were. I hadn't preordered so I was going to buy boxes on display for Diwali. With one vegan in our group, they had an assorted vegan box which included : Boondi laddoo, mothichoor laddoo and kaju kathli. They were really good, especially the mothichoor laddoo. Will definitely be back and get some the next time I'm in Cary side. I also tasted a sampling of their burfis before ordering a box of the pistachio ones and those were heavenly. A good amount of salty pistachios and fudge sweetness. This was wonderful to indulge in. Note : this was not vegan. The pricing was also reasonable. Not terrible, given the quality- about $10 per box I'd ordered. Overall : will definitely go back for indulgent sweets. read more

Went to Mithai after 5+ years. The last time I had been there, the food had been terrible. Management has changed and the new owner seemed really helpful. The motichoor laddoo was perhaps the best I had in this area and very tasty (and vegan according to owner - she explained). The pistachio sweet was great too - no artificial food colour or flavor. They apparently make the chhena (fresh milk cheese) from Maple View dairy milk. Haven't tried their savoury snacks so no comments on that. Highly recommended for the Indian sweets! My wife (Abhi) and I went to this store craving for some good tasting Indian food, and we were fully satisfied. I loved Davina and Greg's attitude, friendliness, and hospitality. We ordered Kachori chaat, vegetable chops, rasgulla, and sandesh along with Mango milkshake and cold coffee. I personally LOVED the kachori, and found the rasgulla healthy. As opposed to some other reviews I read on Yelp, I actually welcomed the fresh ingredients and the slight change in taste when compared to traditionally made sweets (which would typically make me want to drink 2-3 glasses of water just to digest the preservatives and excessive sugar). Mithai, the generic Hindu word for sweets, is the real deal. Authentic Indian desserts made right here on the premises. If you aren't acquainted with Indian desserts, they are far less sweet than their American/ European counterparts. What makes Mithai unique is the fact that they truly construct their dessert by hand, up to and including making their own cheese for them, I actually saw them doing it. Very high-end restaurants in LA and NY pay weekly to have these Bengali treats flown in for their patrons. Not even going to attempt to describe the selection here, as it is vast. Have enjoyed the food at this restaurant on occasion but will never return after the owner cornered my wife and me in an unsolicited and very uncomfortable conversation in which he went ranted about conversative politics, including some bizarre historical theories (including some ideas I recognized as Steve Bannon's take on William Strauss's book "The Fourth Turning" - though the owner badly misrepresented those ideas), his negative thoughts about "transgenders" and "liberals," and his repeated claims that his restaurant was not financially successful because of "stagflation" caused by Joe Biden that has the world on the brink of complete economic collapse. Actually, to call this a "conversation" isn't really accurate. "Monologue" is more like it. Or maybe "unsolicited diatribe." His many hostile responses to negative Yelp reviews cement my view that this person is not cut out for any job that requires daily interactions with the public. Would not advise visiting here unless you want to hear an arrogant and ill-informed person spew resentful politics and conspiracy theories while you eat. read more

The food was fresh and yummy. I ordered malpua. It was so dry and terrible. Seems like it was made days ago. I saw some nice reviews about this place and thought to try it out. Not worth the drive. I wouldn't recommend. The mango sandesh is my favorite here. I didn't like the malpua at first, but as I kept eating it, it grew on me and now I quite like it. The gujiyas (think dumpling shape made with flour and a filling inside) were very good, but a bit pricey at 1.79 per piece, they are quite small. The peda and gopal bhog were just OK. I like that they sell by piece and not only per full box. No preservatives, additives, chemicals used here. And no eggs. All vegetarian. This is refreshing in a day and age when too many sweets are full of synthetic ingredients. You can get tea, coffee, lassi, samosa, bhel puri and various chaat items here. The cafe is very small, maybe three tables. The interior has improved compared to a few years ago when ownership changed. Service has been quite slow and frazzled the few times I have been here. There are two signs nailed into the counter saying 'Fixed Pricing' in capital letters so don't try your haggling or bartering skills here. And there is a note saying basically if you damage anything, you are responsible. I think this was unusual to put up in a cafe. I wish that the pricing was stated for each type of sweets. read more

Our family loves Mithai, and our 14 year old son has requested their goodies for every one of his birthday parties since they opened their doors. The owners are always friendly, efficient, and kind. The desserts are wonderful! We stop by every time we're in Cary. Unfortunately, we have witnessed parents allowing their children to run wild in the store. Being a very small store, this is dangerous for everyone. I have witnessed an owner requesting that parents control their children. As a repeat customer and parent, I am happy to see a store owner being assertive (never rude) and protecting their investment and the customers that frequent their store. I am a disabled combat veteran (USAF), and with my injuries it is easy for me to lose balance, even with my cane. Mithai has the best samosas anywhere! Stopped in for a chai and got a treat to go with it. The chai was small, but very good. They asked how much sugar I wanted, which I don't think I have ever been asked before. I shrugged and said "A medium amount?" Well, that was the right answer for my liking. I also tried a Khajuri sandesh, which is like a no-bake cookie or almost like a fudge made out of milk and date molasses. So good! I was tempted to buy a box full, but restrained myself.
