The server for buffet over the weekend brought me a placemat that was dirty from plates collected from a previous patron's table. I set that aside and tried to avoid the moisture on the napkin my silverware was wrapped in. When I went to get food, most of it was covered which I guess is good, but to get to the food, it was awkward balancing the covers or having to place them on another covered tray to be able to serve myself. When I compare the food and environment here to other places that offer Indian cuisine buffets, for the $20 with tax I'd rather go to Kabab and Curry not too far from here on Hillsborough St. There is more food available, it is fresher, the environment overall seems more hygienic and well-organized, and the food has better flavor and seems less greasy at Kabab and Curry. The only difference is having to pay for parking or parking a bit further away for a free spot--but for what you pay at Curry Club and they only offer buffet over the weekend, Kabab and Curry is better and offers more value and is where I will probably go from now on. The only way Curry Club's buffet would make sense is if they brought the price down. I'd put their food quality about on par with China Queen's weekday Chinese buffet, but China Queen has the better sense to charge less for the quality and experience they offer their customers. If you're already in the plaza and it's convenient to drop in over the weekend, give Curry Club a try, but if you can make it a little further north, Kabab and Curry is the better place. It is worth noting that Curry Club has interesting theme days and specials that may offer more value and culinary enjoyment than what I was able to experience while I was there including weekend breakfast combos, and weeknight dosa, biryani, and rice deals. They also have momos and spring rolls that look delicious (though I can't vouch yet). They stock authentic items like frozen Shahi Kulfi (not included in the buffet), and beverages like Delhi Darling, Thumsup, and Limca. If I go back, it'll be to sample dosas at Dosa Night or see what I think about the momos and spring rolls. I'll update when and if I find out and get to sample more. read more

We tested out the buffet on a Saturday. This is a mid place with frugal setup but the food is authentic for the most part. The buffet naan wasn't ideal but with 6 offerings for vegetarians under appetizer and mains + rice and naan and 6 additional meat options, it wasn't too bad. They use plastic and styrofoam which I think they should rethink styrofoam. The chai is sugar added and it would make a huge difference if the sugar was on the side for all preferences. The staff and service is decent gets the job done. If you're in the area absolutely craving Indian food- give it a shot. The paneer tikka was spicy and non creamy which was a good surprise. The same applied for the chicken tikka. Aloo gobi had zero cauliflower (or maybe it was so overcooked it completely disintegrated into the gravy). Needed a quick bite on a Thursday evening. I was able to order online and pick up my food in about 10 minutes. The workers were nice when I arrived. The prices were average. I got the paneer tikka and really liked! It has onions with it and I enjoyed it. It was a lot of food. I could've gotten two meals for ~$16. Wish there was a little more rice and the flavors were a little more rich but that's okay. Very filling! read more

Open on Thanksgiving*, and cooking up a storm! For a smallish strip mall joint offering only takeout these days, this place has a diverse menu, and I tried to get a sense of the variety by trying a chole bhature (fried bread with chickpea curry) as well as a veg manchurian (cabbage balls in an Indo-Chinese sauce), and some sort of stewed okra I hadn't had before. I asked for all to be spicy, and they were. The chickpeas and bread was, for once, the right amount of chickpeas to use up one piece of bread. The range of vegetarian options and the ease of takeout (10% off coupon if you check the website as well) were a winner for me. *I certainly don't begrudge anyone who wants to take Thanksgiving off, but for those of us who are out on the day for any number of reasons, the few businesses that remain open are greatly appreciated. If Chinese food on Christmas is a tradition, let Indian food on Thanksgiving become one as well. It's what I cook when I have time. read more

We were in the area, and wanted Buffet style meal. Close by is Dhanarani Express. The interior is comfy, and there is plenty of seating. It' directly parallel to the Direct Auto Insurance if you don't see it right away pulling in. They offer take out and a full menu other than their buffet. I love Indian food so I said yes. Got here first thing at 11:30 and were immediately let in and led to our table. Our server told us to give them ten minutes to have the full buffet up. We patiently waited, and it was WORTH the wait. Stopped in this place last Saturday for lunch and found out quickly that they only do buffets at lunchtime day in and day out. As a very keen Dharani fan from the original restaurant in Morrisville, I was happy to finally make it here, even though it was lunchtime and a buffet. I always think of buffets as a blessing and a curse! Personally, if you want to eat a lot of food that's great, and the food is great, the downside for me is I tend to eat more than usual, and mix too many different flavors together and perhaps don't enjoy the individual flavors of each dish. Does that make sense? This place has a very complete evening dinner menu, as I tried to show below. Which probably represents what it was when it was at the original Morrisville location. The food is excellent, the service at lunch was good, no alcohol served as far as I noticed, but the evening atmosphere I expect would be more white tablecloth, even if it isn't. The menu speaks for itself. It's definitely a place to check out, not just for the food but if you're ready for a buffet! I'm betting the ambiance is totally different in the evening. read more

Absolutely my favorite Indian food in the Triangle! I discovered Dharani Express last year and it's my go to restaurant when curry cravings hit. The food is so flavorful, spicy, and you'll come across whole spices while enjoying your dish. The restaurant isn't fancy but service is great and the food will have you coming back for more. My friend and I shared palak paneer, lamb vindaloo & Chicken Tikka Masala and we each had enough leftovers for another meal. Don't hesitate to check it out! read more

I ordered vegetable biryani. I love the spices in this food. This was alive with taste that far surpass most popular Indian restaurants that cater to the middle of the road palates. The person that waited on me was so cordial and helpful in selecting a dish (menu is so varied a guide is helpful and that's a plus). My family and I went to this restaurant over the weekend, and the food had a very authentic South Indian taste. I have been to many Indian restaurants, but none of them gave me the same experience as The Curry Club. As a pescatarian, I tried the fish curry and it was amazing. Every dish had that authentic touch of South Indian recipe. I even had the opportunity to meet the Chef, Dr. Sivakumar, who has a PhD in Culinary Arts. He is a very humble person. There was jasmine rice, biryani, eggplant, butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, naan, soup, chutney, raita, and mango custard to name a few of the options on the buffet today. They started us off with a complimentary basket of papadum chips, served with a tamarind sauce and yogurt sauce. I came here for dinner with family and ordered a spread of different things: Chicken Manchurian - Great portions, tastes like Orange Chicken Idly Vada Combo - Very authentic texture and flavor with the chutneys. I wasn't the biggest fan of this dish but I liked Vada (fried donut-ish one) over the Idly. Mysore Masala - The star of the dinner, Dosa is like a savory crepe and the potato filling was delicious and made this dining experience special since I had never tried it before! Goat Curry w/ Bone - Not the best. We ordered medium spicy for everything but this one was particularly extra spicy. If you like gamey flavors then this is a winner, otherwise you may enjoy the chicken curries more. Being a fan of northern cuisine wanted to try this place to see what the southern food tastes like. More like a 3.5 stars. Cant ever give five stars to a place with paper plates and plastic forks so there goes one star and the other half was not for the flavors but for the consistency of the dishes, kind of soupy, served on the plate the food runs all over and makes it impossible to eat with fork, had to grab plastic spoon. The naan was cold like it was pre made before opening unlike other places that make it in smaller batches and comes out still warm. Also it is awkward to eat bone in chicken with plastic forks and knives. The traffic around the buffet table was in all directions due to layout I guess, maybe it was me going the wrong way all the time. The flavors are great, I wish I could find more meat (chicken that is) with each of the dishes that supposedly had chicken in it. Will keep on my search for the best buffet read more

We had dinner for two with no other customers in sight nor any that arrived while we had dinner service. For dinner we chose the butter chicken and garlic naan. There are barely any drink selections other than water and a random canned soda (no ice) but a cold glass. However, the overall taste of the butter chicken was subpar and watery. The butter chicken should have been renamed "butter soup" as there was only three to four small chunks of dry chicken in a large saucepan. The naan was barely warm nor flavorful. Perhaps the most disappointing southern Indian food I have tasted in quite some time. The evening table service was unconcerned and borderline rude. A final bill receipt was presented with a Google Pay QR code. No greeting, thanks, or at least customer feedback was allowed as wait staff remained hidden somewhere in the bowels of the front register. I remember that a year back this place had a very poor sanitation rating, but after that these guys did something and rectified all their mistakes. And eventually emerged like a star of Indian food in this area. I have tried Kadhai Paneer, Naan and Paneer Butter Masala at this restaurant and all 3 of them were great. However the Indo-Chinese is not soo good. I tried Hakka noodles and Veg manchurian, the noodles were bland and not anywhere near to real Hakka Noodles and manchurian balls tasty gluey. The food was fresh , just a bit oily but that's how a traditional restaurant style curry in India would be. Therefore, I would definitely recommend you to try this place. read more

We were planning to go out for ice cream later, so rather than each getting our own entree, we shared bread, an appetizer, and an entree. We received complimentary papadum chips with two sauces - tamarind and a cucumber yogurt. Next, we had samosas (also served with the tamarind and cucumber yogurt sauces) which were spicy and delicious. We also had the Aloo Parotta (layered flaky flat bread stuffed with potatoes) which was yummy and really filling. For our entree we had Guthi Vankaya (baby eggplant, sesame seeds, and peanut gravy). It was so savory and delicious. The large portions (along with the fact that they brought out complimentary papadum chips) meant that we even had leftovers. My husband and I have been coming to Dharani for 4+ years at this point, and we can confidentially say it is the best Indian food in the Triangle. The Paneer is the best you'll find stateside (my husband lived on Paneer for his summer he lived in Delhi, India) and the Chicken Curry is always cooked to perfection. The buffet is a great deal, and a way you can try a multitude of dishes. Definitely a hole in the wall place, but the recipes and taste can't be beat! read more

It's too bad I have to give a 1-star rating, for food poisoning. Every time we've ordered from here the food was very good, probably 2nd best we've had in the area. A couple weeks ago we made a big order as usual, this time they gave us old food. How do I know? First it was not cooked very spicy like requested (it was mild)... second it seemed off. While I haven't been to many Indian restaurants before, I am certainly a fan of Dharani Express. I didn't expect much looking at the outside of the restaurant. It is kind of hidden from the main road and not in the nicest shopping center, but don't let the outside deter you from what is sure to be a great and flavorful experience. For appetizers, we started off with the Chole Bature and 2 orders of samosas. The Chloe Bature was definitely one of my favorite things we had that night. The bread was really airy and combining it with the chickpea curry/sauce was soooo good. The samosas were also really good and came out SUPER fresh and hot! And if you thought we were already feasting, you would be wrong. We had so much more food to come! I had no idea what to get so I went with the Masala Dola and also ordered some cheese naan. I had no idea what to expect for the masala dosa, but this thing was gigantic. It was nice and crispy and served as a great contrast to the creamier potato filling. The cheese naan was also good, but I enjoyed the garlic naan more. I tried a variety of other dishes from the rest of my family, but my favorite was probably the Chicken Tikka Saag. The staff was also really nice and checked in with us multiple times to make sure everything was good. Also, kudos to them for keeping my water full at all times. I know I was drinking it often and quickly since the Indian food is spicier than what I have on a normal day. If you are going for dinner, I definitely recommend going with a bigger group so that you can share and try a variety of items. But you can also go for their lunch buffet to try a bunch of different items and figure out your favorites. Out of all the dishes we tried, there honestly wasn't anything I didn't like, so I am excited to go back and try more items on their buffet. read more
