My boyfriend and I came to Moon Sushi Bar over the weekend for the first time after seeing a little video about doing a date night here and wanting sushi close by. We found Moon Sushi Bar and saw good reviews and so we decided to come and check it out. Upon entering, it was a bit of a rough start as it was pretty busy and borderline packed, and all in small restaurant. I don't know if the one waiter working never saw us because he was so busy, or what was happening because it took them five minutes just to acknowledge us and motion towards a table. Once we sat down, again, it took another five minutes just to get a menu. Right before we had gotten the menu, we had just debated leaving because it had been ten minutes and it seemed like maybe they had a full enough plate as it was. However, we're glad we stayed, though, because once we got our food, it was worth it! We ordered with the one guy who was taking orders and helping out most of the diners here. It did take a long time to get our food, which ended up biting us in the ass at the end when we wanted to order another roll, but had to wait, again, a long time just to receive it. At that point, too, most people had left, so we had expected it to come out maybe a tad bit faster, but it didn't. We ordered two specialty rolls and a normal basic roll. For how long it took, we should have gotten edamame and ordered them all at the beginning. Both of the specialty rolls were amazing and packed with flavor. One had a ponzu sauce, and another a yuzu lemon sauce, both of which my boyfriend and I love, so these were up our alley. The basic shrimp tempura roll was also really good, especially for being a more traditional and plain roll. None of it was too heavy, but after sharing three rolls, we were (unfortunately) full. We're looking forward to coming back to this sushi shop for our next sushi date night! They're so close by and have such great customer service and food. It was so nice and reassuring to see that a majority of people who came inside to eat, also knew the waiter and people working and were regulars. The waiter and guy who was taking care of us, who I could only assume to be the owner or manager, was saying thank you to each and every one of their customers and even giving some hugs! I'd driven past this place and never really noticed it until it kept popping up on my Insta feed. It's literally 10 minutes from my house, so I decided to check it out recently. At first glance, it's pretty small in there, but I never felt uncomfortable. They were playing some cool lo-fi beats that weren't too loud -- no one was screaming at each other over the music. The guy taking my order was super cool and attentive; he kept checking in and was on top of the beer situation. I'd read other reviews saying the service was terrible, but in my honest opinion, he was great. I also read that people weren't happy with the owner. I could see how he might rub people the wrong way, but he mostly just kept to himself -- we only spoke when he picked up my plates. Some things I ordered really stood out, while others were just mid -- not bad, but they didn't have that wow factor. I'll keep this review focused on the sushi and rolls since that's mainly what we came for. Overall, they were just okay. I personally prefer sushi and rolls with a better fish-to-rice ratio, but here the rice was quite thick while the fish on top was very thin, making the rice overpower the rest of the bite. We also ordered the beef yakiniku cooked medium, but it ended up being much chewier than expected and was difficult to eat. The staff were very friendly, and the service was fairly quick, which we appreciated. The restaurant itself is small but cozy, although parking is fairly limited, so that's something to keep in mind. Moon Sushi Bar was a fantastic surprise. I grabbed a seat at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of watching Chef Gun prepare each dish right in front of me. His attention to detail and craftsmanship were evident with every bite. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice to start, Baked Crab Handroll, Spicy Scallop Handroll, Halibut Nigiri, Amberjack Nigiri, Spicy Yellowtail "Joe" Handroll, Baked Scallop Cut roll, Yellowtail Belly Nigiri, and Toro Nigiri. Everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The Yellowtail Belly and Toro Nigiri were especially memorable, melting in my mouth with rich, buttery texture. The Spicy Yellowtail "Joe" Handroll was my favorite! I could've just ordered a few of that handroll and called it a night!! Jeff provided outstanding service throughout the meal. Where do I begin.... I wish I could gatekeep this sushi place because I dont want it to get too congested with traffic and lose its quality like so many of our other local sushi spots. I cant keep quite about this place because not only is the sushi delicious & fresh, but the couple that owns it are incredibly nice & attentive. Weve been back to Moon sushi a couple times and the food & service is always great! I recommend go hungry and try everything on the menu, but whatever you do, DO NOT SKIP on the spicy tuna crispy rice & edadame. This review has been sitting in my drafts for a while but I really enjoyed this spot and wanted to share! I'd say five stars for great taste and a super kind, friendly owner. I came here on a lunch break and got two handrolls, one spicy yellowtail and one baked crab. There was nobody else in the restaurant, which was sort of expected for it only being 4:30. Lots of tables, nice music playing. The fish tasted fresh and the spicy mayo was quite yummy, though there was a lot of it. Was surprised that they did their baked crab on seaweed instead of soy paper. The seaweed got pretty soggy, but it tasted good. Subtracted a star because I do think this place is a little too pricy - though if I could say 4.5 stars I would . I know sushi is expensive but there isn't much that sets it apart to justify the price tag. My two handrolls came out to just under $30 after tax and tip. One was $10 and the other was $12, and they were regular-sized handrolls; good but nothing incredible. Next time I'll probably get a chirashi bowl, which is $20. read more

Hole in the wall sushi spot w/ a limited menu and parking. Decent pace of people (half the tables) were seated at around 7PM on a Thursday. Food was alright. - Chirashi w/ Miso (menu stated $20, but I got charged $24 which I didn't notice until after leaving): Decent cuts of sashimi on a bed of rice that was a little too soaked with vinegar. It still tasted yummy and the texture was nice with a slight chew, but towards the bottom it was too tart. The tuna didn't taste as fresh as the other cuts of fish. Miso soup was grainier than I would've liked but tasty. - Salmon Carpaccio ($18): Nice presentation but salmon wasn't very fresh imo and the ponzu sauce was cloudy. Not my favorite. Service was friendly and checked up on us often. Inside was relatively clean, but I was a little put off by how the sushi chef wasn't wearing gloves. I wasn't paying attention the whole time, but I can only noticed him washing his hands once in between the 4 parties that were served. We had a really great time at this restaurant. My cousin and I met up for some catch-up time and decided on Moon Sushi based on its Yelp reviews. We arrived and the place was packed. We were cheerfully greeted by the owner and seated at the bar. We were starving so we started with the Garlic Edamame and the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice appetizers. I added a seaweed salad. My cousin ordered the Baked Salmon Roll and I had the Saturn Roll. They also do substitutions with no problem. Not only was the food delicious but the atmosphere was FUN. The restaurant was packed until closing and we were all just having the best time. My cousin and I decided to make it our favorite sushi spot. STAY AWAY! Where do I start? The service was terrible. The red-haired fellow who apparently owns the place is extremely rude. I walked in and he practically shouted at me what did I want. No welcome or nice to see you, just very gruff. I sat down and ordered shrimp tempura and shishito peppers and waited at least 10 minutes before asking the owner what was the holdup. in a really rude way that they got backed up and it would be out soon. He didn't go to check to see where the food was or in a nice way say anything helpful. The food was absolutely nothing. The shishito peppers were small and they were very few of them topped by what was supposed to be crispy onions which were soggy. The shrimp tempura was poor, the sauce had little flavor the shrimp were small and the batter was soggy as well. The Japanese scallop was tasty but I've had much larger Japanese scallops at other restaurants. The atmosphere is nothing much at all with the bathroom being the nicest ambience of all. I soon realized after the first sushi bite that this place right up there with the very best of Miami hot spots. If you want better sushi than this you have to catch it yourself with a pole. Don't order here. Very slow, rude service, bland food. First time we ordered they left out one of the 2 rolls we ordered. They called to let us know and we don't live far so we went to pick it up. Turns out they never even made it so we had to wait another 15 minutes for them to make it while the rest of the order was being delivered to our house. The next time we decided to pick up since the delivery was so bad the first time. Not only did it take 50 minutes to get a small order, they lied about the order. I told the guy who gave me the food that we didn't get all of our food the last time and he said, "I don't know about that." Yeah, like I lied about it? He said he thought I did. We found this place by accident asking our phone sushi near me and this place came up. We were welcomed in. The food was amazing. The fish fresh, the edemame was savory and full of garlic. Decided to try Moon Sushi Bar since I saw that they had ramen on their menu. I have to say that their spicy miso ramen was both spicy and delicious. I know they opened recently, so I decided to stop by! Feel free to visit and also give this place some love. Ambiance: It's a small, casual place with a bar seating area up front. There isn't much ambiance. I don't believe they are Japanese owned, so don't except traditional Japanese fare. Service: Incredibly friendly and attentive. The chef behind the bar was willing to take custom orders and was super friendly, and the hostess was very kind. Food: Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice: DELICIOUS.
