I've never been here before so it was nice to try it out with some friends. As it was their recommendation which they've been before, why not give it a try. It's part of a strip mall with a good amount of parking. Easy to find as there's two other businesses in the same plaza that I frequently visit. This business, is the front shop just off of Ventura Blvd. Checked in with the hostess as we had a reservation. To the right of the restaurant is the sushi bar and to the left is the dining area. I didn't think they had a dining area the side of the bar as well until we got escorted to the our table. Honestly thought they were seating us at the bar which would be a little awkward to talk to 4 people. But to my surprise, they had a couple seats as well. Both side had a long bench that's built in with pillows cushion. It was cute. Opposite side dining room was a decent size but it was quite nice where we were. I had a vibe that a lot of the patrons were regulars as they seemed to know all the staffs by name. Our waitress and waiter were sweet and quite friendly. We got there early which gave us some time to browse the menu. It was quite nice as there were pretty much a good selections of roll and of course sushi. The only thing I noticed that wasn't in the menu were some kind of noodle dish like udons and such. I guess it varies what is carried. Both the drink menu and food menu were quite nice. We ended up just getting a couple of things to snack on. Nothing major as we were just catching up. A few staters with the edamame, tempura, cucumber salad. Sushi, nothing too crazy with the tomago, and some spicy scallops hand rolls. They were quite nice. It's one thing you can just keep eating but I had to limit myself. Also one of the solantro rolls, salmon skin salad and chirashi bowl. The name to their rolls are quite fun with everything starting with So. The meal was quite tasty. A bug happened to fly into my wine which I mentioned and they were graciously enough to replace it for me. That's excellent customer service. The food was great. Service was excellent. The whole ambience was amazing. Would I comeback? For sure.

The sushi rolls are so fresh and delicious. I highly recommend to get a sea buss roll with avocado. They know what they're doing. All the servers were extremely nice and friendly. Especially Tik:) I love this sushi place.

Finally decided to try this spot out with my friend! We always drove by, saw it move across the shopping center, and thought it was about time haha. When I first walked in, the lady at the front greeted me and was super nice. I had to wait until my friend got there before being seated. She came and we sat at the bar. I got the baked salmon roll and she got a lot of other things I forget haha. My roll was delicious. The guys at the bar were nice too! The vibes overall were super cute! They do charge for sides though - eel sauce, spicy mayo, etc. It is located in a shopping center with a lot of other shops so sometimes parking is easy, others not so much. People there park....interestingly loll

I have gone to So Sushi twice now. My friend loves this place, but I thought it was an average sushi restaurant. The prices are pretty much the same as going to Katsuya. The quality was decent and service was food.

I have been here a few times. Every time I leave with a smile and a full belly. If you get one thing let it be this: the BPS sushi or roll. It is insanely good. Bonus points that the atmosphere is dim/romantic, no ugly over head lights.

Awesome sushi! The portions are a good size. I would probably be ok with one roll the next time I order and a side order. I am a small woman so that filled me up pretty nice. Service was friendly and fast. Cute place for a quick lunch. I saw families there and couples, so it felt friendly. The menu was different from a typical sushi joint so it has fun sushi for the experimental eater, while also having safe favorites for those classic types. Overall, I would definitely come again.

So Sushi is hands down the best sushi I've had in the Valley. Everything is incredibly fresh and tender--you can really tell they use high-quality fish. The flavors are elevated even further by their unique sauces, which are absolutely to die for. Every bite was a standout. I'll definitely be coming back to try more items off the menu. Highly recommend! Edit I forgot to mention the lighting fast friendly service. We sat at the sushi bar and each order came out within 5 min.

We were looking for a good sushi place near our place in Tarzana and found So Sushi in our search. It was close enough so we figured we'd give it a try. So glad we did. This restaurant was clean, great atmosphere and the service was amazing. About the food - top notch! Can't wait to go back. So good. I'd recommend making a reservation but we didn't know but got seated almost immediately. Thank You.

So Sushi is such a little gem in the valley! The sushi is always super fresh, and even though it's usually packed, it doesn't feel too loud or overwhelming. Prices are pretty fair compared to other sushi spots, and honestly, this place is just a must-try if you love sushi The service is on point!!

I went for a Friday night dinner and made a reservation, it was busy and loud when I got there. We were seated right away with a reservation. We ordered the Crispy SO WHAT tacos, Garlic Shrimp Roll, SO just eat roll, and Negitoro roll. The Crispy SO WHAT tacos are a small starter, but deliciously with the mix. I really like the sauce for the Garlic Shrimp Roll, I was soaking up the roll pieces in it and it had nice chunks in it. The SO just eat roll had a variety of textures with crispy onions, albacore on top, and so what mix inside the roll- overall great roll choice. We finished with the negitoro roll which just melts in your mouth. Our waitress was helpful & attentive the whole time. Parking- shared big lot with other businesses

Big Eye Toro...don't walk...run to try this...before it's gone. Wow!

Ask the Community - So Sushi

Is this place all you can eat?

This is a frequently asked question. No, this place is not all you can eat.

What are the prices for OMAKASE? I just see $50 and up, but can I get an idea of prices in terms of what you get for it?

They do not have all you can eat. We went and I cannot post the answer so I have to word it as a question.?

    You are absolutely correct :)

Do they ever answer their phone? It's so hard to order from them.

They do but most of the time it's sooo busy because everyone knows how good it is, my suggestion is to go in person

    How much is the omakase?

Depends on what the chef wants to serve that day, the fish of the day and how many courses you want. You can tell him you want no more and he stops. We had 9 and we paid 130

    Can I make a reservation for 6pm?

I'm pretty sure you can make reservations

    Do they do Reservations?

    Not when I went

    Do they have parking?

    Yes, it's the valley!

    Do you have outdoor seating?

Yes they have outdoor seating since they reopened because of covid it's actually really nice out

How do I make a reservation?

They don't take reservations. You really have to arrive in person and put your name down. You can put your name on the list via Yelp, but that doesn't really guarantee a reservation. They will only account for you once you check in

What's their telephone ? The one they have on Yelp is not working .

I just called and I was able to get through. They don't answer when they're closed.

Does this place have an all you can eat option?

    no they don't

    Any Vegan options here?

I believe you can let them know what you would like to eat and they can substitute for you.

Despite even that, I was helped immediately and was heading out with my order for 2 bowls in about 15 minutes. I was also offered a glass of ice water while I waited, which was very kind. Every aspect from the dark walls and wooden bar, down to the music and bathroom is well thought out. You can tell they truly value their space and the customers that support the restaurant. Don't get me started on the food ~ We tried the Bincho Egg Black Tonkatsu Ramen. The broth was silky and creamy, not oily or heavy at all. The black garlic added a very interesting earthy and almost scorched taste to it. The egg was sweet, and I've never had a sweet ramen egg before but it went well with the rest of the umami flavors in the dish. The green onions and wood ear mushrooms had a fresh crunch to them and there was enough to get a good amount in every bite. The charsiu was tender + savory sweet, kinda tasted like cheese to me but that's also a positive lol! The noodles were slightly chewy and the portion was just right for the amount of broth you get. I have nothing bad to say about this ramen, it's truly one of those spots where your heart desires seconds or even thirds lowkey. I'll be back again to try a different option on the menu. That spicy karaage looked pretty fire so I may need to come back to try that too... Thank you Bincho! Y'all killed the ramen game.

He knows I love hot pot and instead of our usual 626 hot pot spots, he wanted to choose something new and hip that we've never tried before. He heard from a friend that Tabu Shabu was a good hot pot place so we decided to try it out. The restaurant is located in the corner in a huge plaza, we came on a Friday night and although the plaza was busy, we were able to find a parking spot. Inside the restaurant, you'll either be seated the few tables that they or in the center circular "bar" style seating. It was my first time being at a hot pot place with this style seating, but it was a unique experience. Once seated, we were given menus and quickly asked what we wanted to drink. After the waitress took our order, it took us about 15 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. We ordered spicy edamame and a cucumber salad. The menu was very basic and I wasn't impressed with the broth selection. The standard broth was traditional kombu (literally water with a huge piece of seaweed), miso for additional $1, sukiyaki, for additional $3, and tonkotsu for additional $4. Sounds a bit absurd to me that they would charge extra for the different options when at much better tasting Hot Pot places, the options would all be included in the price. After 20 minutes, one of the waiters noticed that we didn't receive our broth or food and asked us if we ordered yet. We told him that a waitress took our order already but we haven't received our food. Turns out, the waitress took our order but didn't place it in the system yet. I'm hangry at this point, we came to our reservation at 7:30, it's 8:20 at this point and we had plans at 9pm-- so I was a bit annoyed that we had to wait so long. Things were turned around once we received our order though, the broth and food came quickly after she placed our order and the veggie platter section was OK. I'm not the biggest fan of hot pot places that have preselected veggie plates. The veggie plate had a small handful of spinach, a few pieces of napa cabbage, 3 pieces of broccoli, two slices of kabocha pumpkin, a small bunch of enoki mushroom, two pieces of tofu, and some onion slices. It's a nice "variety" but I only like broccoli and mushroom, but because I don't eat rice I had no choice but to eat the veggies to fill me up. I'm happy they offered Shirataki noodles! I chose the large portion and did half chicken half chuck roll. The chuck roll I was given was chewy and fatty. I spat out the chewy parts which was basically majority of the portion I was given. Would I come back here? No, but being from the 626, I have higher expectations for hot pot because I've grown up eating it. This is a good hot pot place for beginner hot pot goers.

It's important for me to mention that this review reflects my personal taste. We ordered a wide variety of dishes to try as much as possible and I tasted almost everything Unfortunately I didn't connect with the flavors Most of the sashimi dishes had a strong fishy taste as if the fish wasn't handled precisely enough before serving and in some cases the cuts were too thick for sashimi. The only dish I truly enjoyed was a vegetarian roll, which felt balanced and tasty to me, probably because it didn't include fish. The fruit creme brulee dessert also didn't work for me, it didn't look very appealing, and the flavors didn't come together in a way I liked. The staff was very nice, and the place itself is small and cute, with a pleasant atmosphere overall. Overall, it's possible that others will enjoy it more, especially those who like stronger, more dominant flavors, but for me, the experience was average, which is why my rating is three stars.
