She said it was ok so I pushed my hair to the limit and got the lightest ash color in baby highlights. Blanca is such an amazing hair stylist! She always makes me feel so luxe after leaving the salon‍. She gave me a "wolf cut" with bangs and I can't go back now to my old style. She really listens to what you want and is very intuitive. I'm a very long hair girlie and sometimes I leave other salons and no one can even tell I got a cut but with Blanca she knows how to add layers to give so much movement. Bangs can be high maintenance but these are not. The cut is super piecey with lots of face framing layers so I honestly don't even style it. Went in for a full balayage and cut with Kellan and I have nothing but good things to say about her. I was initially going to a stylist in Berkeley for almost two years attempting to achieve what Kellan did for me in one single visit! I came into the salon with another stylist's work and not even knowing what dyes she put in my hair. I asked for a dark espresso brown balayage and a long layer cut with bangs. Kellan made it happen! She is a true professional and cares very much about her work. This was very prominent when we finished toning my hair after the bleach and she wanted to re-tone a section of my hair because it came out a bit lighter than the picture I showed her for inspiration. In my eyes, I didn't really noticed it but after she toned it for the second time, I saw the difference and was very pleased. She could have not said anything and continued to finish up with my hair but she didn't and that's very professional of her. I appreciate how she walked me through the process and was honest about what she can do for me. The previous stylist would tell me that I need to return to the salon every 4-6 weeks for a partial balayage for maintenance whereas Kellan gave me a reasonable timeline for my next appointment and what to look out for. Genevieve gave me my consultation. She quoted me $350-$500 for Ash Highlights & $50 to test strand. I went to Jim's Salon 7 minutes from Miva, he cut a small strand from my hair, tested it (FREE) and did an AMAZING job SAME DAY for $270. He greeted me kindly, didn't roll his eyes at my questions, & made sure I understood the entire process. Just for feedback, ppl can sense energy and they can feel when you're genuine about your work. I was so pleased with the service at Miva from start to finish! This is my second time coming to salon and I'm pretty sure I'll be coming back again and again. I love long hair but I'm not the best and maintaining it. I only get it done once every year or so. This time I thought it was time to retire my balayage and add some layers to my waist length hair. I emailed Miva for an appointment in the coming week and they were super responsive via email--love that for me because I work odd hours and sometimes can't get to my phone when it rings. I get to the salon and was greeted by Minnie. She listened to my vision and told me honestly what would work or not work and together we decided on something that would make me happy. My 3rd and 4th visit to Miva have been at their new location, and it has been nothing short of amazing. First off, the location is much better but I love that they're staying local to Hayward. Secondly, parking is WAAAY better here-hands down. The interior is snazzy and super clean. It's that modern twist with a sprinkle of high end and just instagram worthy vibes. But that's honestly not even the most impressive part. With their expansion, it's allowed for more staff and chairs which equals more appointments! I came back after about a month and a half from my highlights with Minnie at their other location and decided I wanted to go lighter. It was a huge step for me because I've always been the simple and no-nonsense maintenance type of girl. I came to meet with the one and only Joss which you absolutely must book with for your wildest or color perfect hair. I started with Joss and have never experienced even something remotely negative that would make me say otherwise. She's extremely patient and sweet, but at the same time, experienced and knowledgeable. I screenshot some pictures and told her that I was looking to go lighter (from my recently highlighted hair, which barely washed out) and decided that an ash blonde on my asian hair was what I wanted. She didn't make a face or instantly tell me she could do it or that she couldn't. She consulted my hair and explained the process that it would go through and reiterated that it will take more than one session and that it will not be exactly what I imagined. Not wanting to walk out of the salon with yellow harsh colored hair, we decided to go for an autumn light brown ash light color, which worked out perfectly in the end with my highlights. She was able to bring my hair to life. I came back about 3 months later and boy, once all the toner leaves you look like a hot mess of dried hay. But she said we can go blonder if you like and I was like why not. We're already half way there and ufffffff, it turned out so well the second time. It was like healthy hair all over again and I came out a brand new person. Each experience is always a great one and I'm just in the greatest hands with Joss. Her skill and technique and ability to color and blend is just beyond amazing. People talk about how expensive it is and that they're overcharging... and you have to pay extra for olaplex but it honestly makes the difference. I mean, they're prices are extremely reasonable, especially for a senior stylist. The time you spent there goes by fast and the environment is somewhere you actually want to be in. If I had a Versace gown, wore it with my new hair-do and went out on a date with my man, then at the end of the evening, "Versace on the floor" (Bruno Mars vs. David Guetta). Okay, okay, it would be more like "Anne Taylor on the floor" instead. I can't pull off a Versace nor afford one. And also, that didn't happen but a girl can fantasize, right?! I easily booked an appointment 1 week in advance for a full head, honey brown, balayage hair dye and cut. They asked if I wanted Sr. or Jr. stylist. I opted for Jr. since I've never been there and didn't know anyone's creative style. They told me that it can take 4-6 hours for this process, so, I made sure I brought my own lunch and beverage for my appointment. Good thing I did because it took 6 hours to fix my messed up mop head. Lorraine was so sweet and informative. She told me stuff about hair dye that I never knew about. Now that I know, my hair will be in her hands moving forward. I watched her do magic on my head. She had technical skills that I've never seen before. And I also never had a head full of foil... I felt like a recipe for baked chicken. The process was long but not painful. I can't tell you all the details but I just know my head was in the sink at least 4x's that day. And at the end of the day, my hair came out beautifully. Especially after she masterfully curled my hair! You can really see the highlights with the swirly twirl curls. Went in for a cut & color with Kellan, and I really appreciated how honest she was with my hair. She explained to me that what I wanted to have done could severely damage my hair (especially due to the old balayage I had done), got a second opinion from a colleague, and recommended another course of action as a temporary fix for my grown out/brassy/unevenly highlighted hair even though the new recommendation was half the cost of the service I had originally booked for. She was very clear in the upfront about how much everything would cost before she started. (I hate when stylists charge you afterwards and tell you they added in X, Y, or Z services without consulting you first... happened at my last appointment elsewhere.) I loved that she brought out some hair swatches to show me what my options were and what my hair color would likely look like after the service (this is the first salon that has done that for me)! She was also overall super sweet, easy to talk to, and checked in frequently when she was cutting my hair to make sure the length & style were what I wanted. The salon itself is really clean, modern, and I felt really safe with all the COVID precautions they had in place. Parking was pretty easy in the lot behind their building (though I didn't realize there was a farmers' market going on Saturday morning that made it take just a little bit longer... so would recommend arriving early if you happen to be there on a farmers' market day). I've had a few hair treatments (fusio dose, deep repair) and a haircut at Miva with Minnie. She is great and does the best blowouts from all the salons I've visited in Hayward. I recently got a Brazilian blowout for the first time ever, and am in love with the results. Minnie was so sweet and took the time to not only explain the process, but also educate me on what a Brazilian blowout was, chemicals involved and much more. It was a long process, but I will definitely be getting it once my hair needs it again. I have a lot of hair, thick, wavy and frizzy when air dried. The first time I got my hair professionally done (at a different salon btw), I was severely overcharged! But at Miva, you're getting better service for a better price. I was recommended this salon by one of my friends. Making an appointment is easy: call or email and they'll respond quickly. I booked with Kellan who has her availability posted on her Instagram. Once I walked in, I was immediately greeted. Kellan recommended an Olaplex treatment because my hair was very damaged from my previous stylist and there was a lot of breakage. Kellan and other stylist here are all so good and will educate you on your hair and how to take care of it which is something I love and appreciate so much. I've been to this salon 3 times- the first time to get a red dye job, second to get a haircut and third to lighten with highlights and add a red color. I thought this would be the salon I could finally commit to after salon hopping for a couple of years- the first two times, I had a good experience, even though it was with Junior stylists. I told myself, "alright, I think it's time for a bit of a change" after not dying my hair for a few months. I decided to go all out and add highlights and a Rose color. This time, they again paired me with a Junior stylist, who was really nice but very young. We discussed the coloring and came to an understanding that a Rose color would take two sessions, which would be too much of a hassle for me so we decided on the attached photo (right)- which is more chunky highlights and much more realistic for one session. Instead, I received micro highlights (which took forever to put in), which basically was so micro and not sparsely laid out, that it merged together. The stylist took so long laying out the highlights with foil that she had to wash the bottom portions out first, while still leaving the tops on. She made me lay my neck on the porcelain sink for 30 minutes, while the top portions processed because the second half was already washed out and wet. It was super uncomfortable, leaving a bruise on my neck and a headache after. Having Asian hair, when it's bleached, it becomes copper/yellow. I would think she would have toned it down first, but she didn't. Instead, she laid a brown red color right over it while wet and then washed me out without applying conditioner. My hair was just bleached! No conditioner? I didn't mind the haircut- that is the part I have no complaints about. I walked out looking like how I walked in- just with a haircut. I didn't wash it for two days after to let the color soak in and give my hair a break, but after washing it for the first time, two days ago, almost of the red washed out, leaving me with patches of different colors all over my hair. It looked horrible (photo attached). I called to ask if I can get it fixed, told them the issue and the first thing the receptionist tells me is maybe because the shampoo I used stripped it out. I've been dying my hair for years, and know what shampoo I can and can't use to preserve hair color. That assumption put the problem on me. I told her I couldn't make it in this Sunday, and can do the next. She told me that if I can't make it in by Sunday, I will have to pay for any other time after. I asked if I can receive partial credit towards another session, or anything else. She basically repeated the same robotic line to me three times "Sorry, if you can't make it in this Sunday, you'll have to pay next time". I spent over $300+ and 6 hours there, to not walk out with the hair style I wanted. I understand that I can't get exactly what I want based on a photo I brought in, but I also understand that this hair job is a disaster. This review is based in hindsight- I wouldn't have mentioned about the sink torture, or the money or time spent, because I know beauty can be painful. But to have my hair wrecked and not be able to have it fixed without spending another few hundred and a few hours, really pisses me off. I had three people comment on my hair- "oh you didn't do that yourself (because it's so bad)?", "what color is that supposed to be?", "what look were you trying to go for?". All women expect to walk out of a salon and feel beautiful, and be complimented, not questioned. read more

Let me get this out there, I'm picky as hell about who touches my hair. I've been coming to Miva since they had their first store. I've had my hair colored my Minnie and Cassie. I've had my hair cut from Minnie, Cassie and Jocelyn. They always know how to deliver on exactly what I want and they're honest about how long the process would take for me to get to my desired colored. I've had mircohighlights transitioned to a balayage. Most recently I went in for a Balayage and had some lowlights put in to give my hair some more dimension. Cassie is my usual go to girl but to be honest all three ladies do a fantastic job! I can't speak for a junior stylist because I haven't had my hair done by one but if they are learning from Minnie, she knows her stuff. Junior doesn't always mean less experienced they may still be a junior because they take a little longer to get you out of the hair then a senior stylist. I love seeing/hearing all the compliments my wife gets on her hair after she's gone to Miva Salon. Minnie did my wife's hair and her attention to detail is second to none! So I went to this salon THREE YEARS ago and I was not happy with my hair. Admittedly I wrote a not so great review, but I figured it's been 3 years why not give this place another shot since it's so close to home and they continue to have great reviews. Boy did I make a mistake. Shortly after my appointment was scheduled the owner responded to my message canceling my appointment because of my "history" with the salon and the negative review I posted THREE YEARS AGO. You would think that they would take this opportunity to regain a customer who would have probably updated their review. Minnie was amazing and so informative. 1. Everyone is extremely welcoming, warm and the salon is lit up with smiles from everyone! From the employee's to even customers (no lie, the vibe was IT lol) 2. Salon is beautiful, clean and well taken care of. They follow the CDC Guidelines, sanitize their stations well and keep a 6ft distance. They're on top of calling you days before your apt to go through some screening questions to ensure the safety of both you and the salon. 3. My stylist Minnie (and even the Stylist next to me who was talking to her client) give honest feedback on your current hair's state before color/ tone/ styling and truly want to give the highest quality care for your hair as well as maintain a balance between what they know is best for your hair from a professional's point of view and what your really want for your hair. (You do sign a waiver so even if you decide to do what you want vs what was professionally recommended, it's on you girl. Take it at your own risk -unless your hair is already healthy and you have no breakage or over processed hair -like i do lol!! ) 4. The KNOWLEDGE my stylist had was at a high standard.
