April has been my hairstylist since 2019! I've been going to her consistently for full babylights, partial babylights, toning and hair cuts. I am a fan of the caramel and browns but she does a full range of amazing colors! April is so sweet and easy to talk to, so it definitely makes the hair sessions go by quick. Hair stylist at the saloon are very good but 0 customer service or soft skills to talk to clients. It's like welcome for new service but if something goes wrong they are border line rude and defensive to another level. No product to protect the skin while coloring and charges are double, which is ok but the service should match the charges. Skin literally got burnt. The hairstylists at Mito's Hair Salon are very talented, and the quality of their work is excellent. Unfortunately, the customer service is extremely disappointing. I've had multiple experiences where the staff, particularly one stylist (Kayla), was rude, unwelcoming, and accusatory. I had to cancel or reschedule a few appointments due to genuine emergencies involving my children and personal health. These were not intentional cancellations--life happens, especially when you have kids. On one occasion, I was sick and informed the stylist early in the morning before my appointment. Instead of understanding, I was spoken to disrespectfully and accused of lying about my situation. I was also told about a deposit and cancellation fee, even though I had previously asked to pay a deposit and was told it wasn't needed. I even offered to pay the cancellation fee and reschedule, but the way I was spoken to was completely unprofessional. I truly appreciate the talent and effort of the stylists, but clients should be treated with respect and basic human understanding. Emergencies, illness, and unexpected situations happen to everyone. The salon needs to work on how they communicate with clients, show empathy, and handle cancellations professionally--otherwise, they risk losing loyal customers. I've been going to Mitos on and off for several years. It's a great hair salon at reasonable prices. I've seen Paula who is the owner's daughter. Paula also has her own salon in Pleasanton so she's not at the Union City location as often. I recommend trying to book with her in advance. She's not a super chatty person which I definitely don't mind as an introvert :) I think she delivers when it comes to achieving the hair cut that I want. I also saw Kayla recently. She's super friendly, warm, and very chatty. She was so patient with me as we "tested" different hair lengths for the cut that I was going for. She's detailed oriented and her cuts are even. I am not a fan of my haircut. I asked for layers and keep it long. After I washed my hair, I can clearly see my haircut is blunt and I can clearly see two badly blended hair. She checked in with me via text the day before to get pictures of the color I was thinking along with my current hair color. I've come here twice already and they always do a good job. I went in wanting to cut my hair short (knowing full well I CANNOT). They convinced me that I CANNOT cut my hair short since my hair texture cannot support short haircuts. So now I know better and need to stop asking! You must book your appointment with your stylist prior to coming, and a questionnaire is sent to you prior to your appointment to ensure you are meeting the safety standards before coming. Call or text to let your stylist know you're outside the salon and you must wait in your car until your stylist is ready for you to come in. Your temperature is checked at the front desk. They limit the number of people inside to just those with appointments. Stylists' stations are spaced out at 20feet apart from each other. Masks must be worn at all times by both customer and stylist. Plexiglass partitions are installed in between washing stations. Pros: My stylist was fun, personable, and she curled my hair all cute. Nice salon. Online booking is easy. Cons: Didn't receive the haircut I wanted. Layers are kind of choppy. They don't ask and don't charge less for not washing your hair - it was skipped for me although my hair felt fluffy that morning and I was looking forward to it. Review: I didn't get the attention to detail that I was hoping for after being referred to the salon by my sister and seeing the high reviews, so the result was kind of a let down. Based on my experience for the same haircut request at other salons previously (including cheaper ones), it usually takes more "fine-tuning" to create the angles and ends of a long bob-type hairstyle (something like undercutting or inverse layering?) so the ends angle inward as per my request through a photo. I don't believe this was even attempted as it just runs mostly straight and the haircut took like no time. I don't recall my hair feeling moist or sprayed with water, nor do I recall it being sectioned off to cut during the process...which could also be due to my immersion in the conversation. My sister said this sounds unusual from her experiences at this salon, but I personally felt like the money wasn't worth it from this experience. I may consider coming back to fix this and in case this was just a one-off. read more

I had my appointment with Paula. She listened and worked on my hair well. Facemask required. Clients need to wait outside before appointment. Good social distancing. There were 9 stations and only 3 clients were there at a time. When not working on my hair, Paula was constantly spraying, disinfecting, cleaning surfaces and floors. It's been a year and I'm still waiting for my hair to grow out of the worst haircut of my life.

This is my second time coming to Janette and she is an ANGEL. She's so nice and really takes the time to understand what direction you want to take your hair in. I showed her some photos of the shade of blond I wanted and she did such a good job getting me to my preferred color. This session (babylights+balayage) took 7 hours even though I was only booked for 4, but she didn't charge me for extra time and was able to keep working on my hair and another clients without me feeling neglected or forgotten. Janette also only uses Olaplex so the integrity of my hair still felt ok by the end of the 7 hours. The only thing I regret is that I did a root coverup the last time I was with her (but we discussed going blond this current session) and that ended up causing some banding. Had I known it would happen I would have just toned my roots instead of dyeing it. read more

I don't ever post reviews but my experience here was terrible. I had an appointment for a haircut at 10am. I get a text from Josie that she is running behind and if I could go at 10:30 instead. I had no problem with this. I show up to the address from the email confirmation of my appointment that I received and the doors were locked. I noticed there was another door closer to the street side of the building so I walk over to try that door and it was also locked. I texted Josie that I was outside but the doors were locked. No response for about 10 minutes so I call the salon, no one answered. I called Josie and it goes straight to voicemail. At this point I've been waiting outside for 20 minutes and still no response from Josie. No one from inside the salon bothered to come out and ask if I had an appointment or anything even though I was standing right outside the whole time!! Josie finally responds that I was probably at the wrong location and that she was outside. Mind you when I received the text I was already walking towards my car, I looked back to see if anyone was outside the building and there was no one outside! I texted her a screenshot of my email confirmation with the address and asked her if that was the correct one. She left me on read. It is now 2pm and still never received a response. I don't know why their salon doors would be locked. If it's because of Covid regulations that's fine but at least communicate instructions with your customers. If you have curly hair please do not go to Janette, I went in maybe a month ago to get a trim and came out with almost all my hair cut off. I specially told her what I wanted, she insisted to cut more off as I told her no because it's not her hair it's mine. My hair was down to my waist when going into her seat I came out with my hair barley under my breast. I don't know how she didn't follow my directions.
