Windy, chilly Sunday we went in for late lunch. Two pizza slices, just baked, so crunchy & fresh! It seems to be focaccia-based, so the dough has olive oil. Our dessert was strawberry & blueberry pastry- incredibly flaky layers. I was surprised to discover those were filo dough-like layers. Melting in the mouth, but slightly on the heavy side. The Bavarian cream in the middle was just a touch of delicacy. Not overwhelming. My house Doro medium roast was incredibly satisfying , no aftertaste-as coffee can have. I asked if they offered refills, & unbelievably although the answer was No, I got a cup of refill all the same. Will be back. read more

Meh. Won't be back. Ordered a whole chicken meal that came with two sides for $30. The chicken was good but not any better than a standard rotisserie chicken from Big Y. The sides were a joke. Ordered brussel sprouts and broccoli. There were like 5 tiny pieces of broccoli in a tiny container. What a rip off. Sprouts were not crispy just super burnt. read more

Great staff- very knowledgeable with the menu and helpful. Their online menu was marked with gluten free labels but in person, it was not. They recommended if you have a serious gluten allergy to know the risk with the food of cross-contamination. I had the Mediterranean bowl and enjoyed the freshness and flavors. I wish it had a bit more chicken, hummus, and quinoa in it, since it was very heavy on the romaine lettuce. I also had the honey nut latte with less of the sweetener/ flavor pumps, which I recommend if you don't want it overly sweetened. The ambiance is light and airy. read more

This spot was absolutely stunning! It was giving a bit of a European feel. Very high end looking, but their prices were very very reasonable. I only had time to stop in for a coffee on the way to a wedding, but def wanna go back and try some of their baked goods. They looked amazing! The tiramisu latte was good. A lot of effort was put into making it and you can tell they take pride in everything handed to the customer. Tomato soup was essentially hot blended tomatoes, no flavor, no spices (garlic, basil etc) Deviled egg toast was a huge portion but was also rather bland. Pastrami sandwhich was well prepared but the horseradish sauce was only on 1/2 of the sandwich. $30 for our meal with water to drink. So if you want a fresh, bland meal, this is the place. Newly open in Old Saybrook, I had the best experience at this Doro Marketplace location. Typically, the other locations are very busy and the only option is to grab coffee and food to-go. For once, we were able to enjoy our lunch and tea in this lovely new space because there wasn't a crowd, especially for Old Saybrook's busy tourist season. Doro has truly transformed the space into a bright, natural, welcoming oasis. Years ago, it was Old Saybrook Soup & Sandwich Co.--a place I dearly miss, but Doro is a great replacement! We were able to take our time looking at the menu and the staff were so nice. We enjoyed Doro's delicious bowl. I had The Market Bowl, added crispy spiced tofu, and a refreshing mango-passion fruit green tea. My mom got the Doro Bowl that she really enjoyed. Everything was fresh, tasty, and we left full. These were great quick health options, something Old Saybrook has lacked. I enjoyed my iced tea too, it wasn't sweet (how I like it) and hit the spot for a hot and humid summer day. Doro also had a great selection of baked goods like cookies, pastries, and cakes. Normally at the other locations it's slim pickings when we arrive. We had to bring some treats home, we got a the softest, humongous chocolate chip cookie, blueberry danish, Bavarian cream croissant, and an apple pastry. It was our first time trying Doro's baked goodies and did not disappoint. The chocolate chip cookie was my favorite. I can't wait to visit Doro again in Old Saybrook, looking forward to trying their breakfast, salads, sandwiches, and other teas and coffees. read more

Went for breakfast here and then again to pick up a too good to go packaged food box. Breakfast was alright- the coffee was yummy (tiramisu latte) but the flavor wasn't homemade (I usually look for a place with homemade flavors). The breakfast Sammy was solid, nothing to write home about but it's good a good vibe and ambiance, so i would go back! The too good to go box came with 3 items- a sandwich and 2 pieces of flatbread/pizza! All were pretty good, so maybe it's more of a lunch spot than a breakfast spot! Had a great experience here recently for a friend's birthday lunch. The place is clean and beautiful inside. The service was exceptional. I wish I knew her name but the women who helped us before and in between ordering food was the best. They have a great selection of sandwiches, salads, toasts, pizza, soups, bowls, and baked goods. I went with the Doro bowl and a raspberry macchiato. The food came out quickly was delicious and filling. Others at the table had sandwiches and pizza and were equally happy with their choices. The Doro of Old Saybrook is likely the most beautiful of their locations. With it's red brick exterior and large windows everywhere, it makes me think of a beach property. This Doro isn't by the beach, but Old Saybrook is a beach town. My favorite part is the sunroof. This is so beautiful. There are some unique chandeliers and other light reflectors. We ordered a Hot Chocolate, an Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte, a Cappuccino and a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant. We also got a loaf of their in house made Multigrain bread and a Tuna Melt Toast. We sat outside on their patio. All of the drinks hit the spot. I particularly enjoyed my Pumpkin Spice Latte. It was sweet and cinnamony, with the right balance. It was unfortunate, the young man spilled the cappuccino by the time it had reached us. The Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was warm, flaky with chocolate on top and some very melty Nutella in the center. The Tuna Melt Toast was a very generous portion. On multigrain toast, tuna, tomato slices and melted Swiss cheese. This was delicious and filling. We took a loaf of the bread home. We had a really nice time at the Doro of Old Saybrook. read more

We met old friends here for lunch based on a recommendation . My husband dislikes having to order from the counter; much preferring wait staff coming to the table. But he stood in line and ordered both lunch and dessert. Both were delivered to our table in a timely manner. My vegetarian bowl was delicious. Our friends were very satisfied with their huge sandwiches. My husband suddenly didn't mind the inconvenience of ordering at the counter when he bit into his chocolate croissant. So excited to have a Doro location closer to me. Their phenomenal pastries come in from the bigger location in Wethersfield. They have a kitchen and pizza oven on site to serve up all of their standard sandwiches, pizzas, and dishes. A box of their pastries will win anyone over. My most recent favorites are the pistachio croissant and the cashew honey croissant. Fantastic! They usually have cronuts and cruffins available on the weekends too. You just have to get there in time to get one! If you are there for breakfast, you can never go wrong with the sandwiches. The New Britain Avenue is probably my favorite. Their brioche buns are so light and lovely. I recently had the wrap as well. They also have eggs shakshuka which is a favorite dish if you can find a spot that offers it. That is why Doro had become a fast favorite because it is a staple on their menu at all of their locations. This location is a little smaller than the Wethersfield and West Hartford ones, but the service is fantastic and you are sure to find a spot to sit. Sometimes it can be a bit of a wait with the other two, very popular spots. Excited to see this place flourish and for the shoreline to experience their amazing food. Hate to complain but I had a very "mid" chicken salad on a truly dried-out croissant- NOT at all freshly made that day. I might have thought it due to perhaps being toasted first but it was not served as a warm sandwich. This was served around 11:30, so should have been fresh from the days bake. Lots of mayo in the chicken salad and rather bland without any real flavor. The few sweet pickles served with it were excellent though with lots of crunch and a very nice server brought our food to the table. I've been here before and had a nice lunch bowl, but this was not "it". I'm introverted and quiet but realize I should have said something at the time. I'll give it another go I'm sure but won't order the same thing again. read more

We loved the Supreme pistachio pastry: croissant dough baked a circular mold with delicious pistachio cream filling! Fantastic fresh salads and bowls, sandwiches, soups. The roast chicken was perfectly cooked with delicious aioli and other side sauces. A few Arab influences sprinkled in with Za'tar spice, pistachio, cashew and honey, as well as North African Shakshuka, making for a wonderful variety of choices. Highly recommend! read more

lets start with nowhere to sit because rude/clueless patrons on their laptops with an empty coffee cups taking up a 4 top tables, i counted 5 tables that would seat 4 and only one person at each and not eating lunch. My wife had decent Italian chopped salad, I had the pastrami sandwich the Farms is much better this had lots of grissel. Staff was kind of clueless ourselves and another patron were standing to the right side of the counter waiting to order, 2 other patrons came in the door stood to the left of the counter staff went to them first when we had been waiting to order a good 5 plus minutes. sorry not going back read more

I went on a very hot day and first looked at their pre-packed meals , which were full of really cheap ingredients that are used at a place like a grocery store. Cheap oils replace olive oil and packed with preservative's. So I then made my way over to the beautiful display of premade sandwiches. There was at least 40 sandwiches made and behind glass, however, not refrigerated. I foolishly ordered, one assuming they must have a system with this lack of refrigeration, so I ordered a Caprese sandwich and sat down to eat. One bite and I had a mushy and tangy taste in my mouth that was not indicative of a tomato, basil and mozzarella sandwich. I went and spoke with the counter person about my concern and asked how long these unrefrigerated sandwiches had been out. She said a bit over two hours. I am talking, roast beef, turkey, cheeses, etc. I expressed my concern about it being so hot out and the place was empty with 40ish sandwiches hanging out without refrigeration. No wondered I was getting a tangy taste from the mozzarella. I really thought this place would be more like Tate's in Boston, but it is just a glorified Stop and Shop deli and bakery section. Only Stop & Shop refrigerates their premade preservative fill sandwiches and they are half the price. So I hope you don't get fooled by Doro's claims of gourmet and fresh, because the only thing I see they do right, is pull the wool over your eyes and charge you top dollar for it. i absolutely love doro. it's my favorite spot, i love their food, drinks, pastries, everything. i come here nearly every day for my coffee and all the baristas are AMAZING except for this one man, he is tall, a little older and has gray hair and every time he makes my iced latte it's really bad. im pretty sure he's in some sort of management position because ill see him working on his laptop around the marketplace. when i spend $6+ on a coffee that all the employees can make AMAZINGLY its really disappointing when the manager or person in a higher position steps in and doesn't do a good job. (i'm really not trying to be rude i've just noticed that this is a reoccurring problem) read more
