The salads are great and reasonably priced compared to other places in the area. I mean, you can pick your own ingredients, so if you don't like the salad, it's probably your own fault. The pizza on the other hand, gross. I had the ham and cheese pizza, which tasted like it was buried in salt. Not to mention the menu board makes no mention of a 1/2 order, so now I'm stuck with a ton of pizza left over. It was so salty I could only eat two pieces. Paninis are so-so. I've tried a few different kinds and none of them were great, but they weren't bad either. Soup - the butternut squash soup is AWESOME and the potato dill is pretty good as well. I'll keep going back here, but I'd recommend sticking with building your own salad or the soup. read more

This is a perfect lunch spot in River North. Most places in the area are over priced and pretentious. Mixed Greens is the perfect (and thankfully) the exception. Phenomenal salad bar options which offer fresh ingredients and tons of choices to never get bored. Best part, it's extremely affordable ($8 for a huge salad). They also have a great menu of sandwiches and pizza if you're in the mood as well. Since I've discovered this place, I'm there atleast 3 times a week. This is one of our go-to spots for lunch, and I like that we all can have variety from salad (warm goat cheese is unique and yummy) to the Cubano Panini (LOVE) to a decent pepperoni pizza. Sometimes we split meals too...Recently got a calzone lunch special. It contained ingredients not posted on the board and I didn't care for it. I went to the cashier/manager to complain and he promptly apologized and offered to make it again for me with the right ingredients. They didn't have exactly everything for my calzone so brought me an entire pizza AND a completed punch card so my next lunch was free on them for my inconvenience! A colleague had an issue one day waiting for her meal too long that they credited her a free meal at next visit. GREAT customer service experiences - there aren't many places I know that go above and beyond like that :) read more

Coming from Washington DC, this place didn't quite live up to my salad-joint standards. The restaurant was disorganized, the options on pre-designed salads slim, and the employees seemed to just be throwing things together without much attention to quantities or portions. I especially missed the ability to weigh in on how much dressing was put on my salad. The food is great. Customer service.... Well I went about 11:45 and wanted some pita bread with my salad. I was told there was none but the guy behind me they just asked and they gave him some?? I then proceeded to check out and asked the cashier for some pita bread and she told me she would bring to my table. I got up and asked her 2 times and she said ok. The third time I asked the other cashier and she completely looked at me as if she didn't understand what I was asking for.. On my way out I asked if you still get pita bread with your salad? I was told that the person who make the pita bread cane in late today; and she is trying to catch up. I told the cashier you could have told me. This place is one of my favorite lunch places around work. Pretty much everything is great. I eat here nearly every week and do not get tired of it. The pizzas and paninis are mostly all delicious, and the salad bar is so great. The Turkey Club Panini, the Chicken Pesto Pizza and the Buffalo Blue Salad are my top choices. Their daily soups are hit and miss, but I do enjoy the Tomato Basil. It's all really convenient to grab and go. The salmon isn't the best, so I'd stay away, but they have lots of great options. read more

Love this place! Always fresh salads, great cookies and warm bread. The best option is to build your own salad, and get a protein..it comes out to a great lunch for under ten dollars! For what I want - which is fast, fresh, and interesting salad that actually encourages me to eat a healthy lunch - Mixed Greens can't be beat. I can eat there every day and not get bored, and I only ever get the salads so that's saying something. I haven't done the build your own because I like their choices - especially the Mexicali with spicy peanut dressing and Super Greens with kale. I also love the salmon Caesar and the seared tuna sashimi with wasabi peas - although with both of those, I agree with some of the reviews that those two are frequently way smaller in portion size than the others. I think it's because the fish is a small set portion (vs chicken or steak where they grab a handful). The salad makers leave too much room at the beginning and you're left with a light bowl at the end. So, Mixed Greens management who may be reading this, you may want to train the makers to grab more lettuce for those two. That's minor though, in general these guys are fast and there are a ton of choices. I don't think it's pricey - I feel like I'm paying for freshness, speed, and variety and entree salads are typically around the $8-10 mark anyway. I always walk there and order in person so I can't speak to delivery/pre-order. But I'm so glad they're near work! read more

Food is great...service is terrible, one they always have music to loud and can't hear your delivery order and two they always give unrealistic times of delivery arriving. Both girls at cash register ask you to constantly repeat your order...this is the 7th or 8th this has occurred and our order was wrong again and she overcharged us. Terrific salad place! One of my favorite;s in the city. Only issue is one of the lady's that works behind the salad bar at night. She is there almost every night during the week. She is EXTREMELY cheap with the toppings. It pains her to give more than one artichoke. She hardly puts on any toppings. I have to ask each time to put on a little more. Let me just start off by saying I've been getting the same unlimited ingredient salad here for the past 3 years. I work across the street and the first time I tried it in 2014, I was hooked. The endless fresh ingredients, the warm pita bread. It was the most delicious salad I'd ever created and I would crave it. But over the past couple of months, they started cutting back to save money and it's annoyingly obvious. As if charging $14 for a salad wasn't enough. They started giving smaller portions of the ingredients and charging extra for guacamole. I used to be stuffed after I finished my salad, not anymore, not even close! They used to give you 4 pita triangles in a pack, then they went down to 3, now it's two and they keep it behind the counter, so you have to ask for it. Frankly, it's not worth it anymore for a takeout salad and it's a slap in the face for the folks that had been going there for while. read more

First off, Mixed Greens, update your website with the correct hours for your Erie location. I went to the Erie location tonight at 8:25pm and the restaurant was closed, even though the Mixed Greens website says the location is open until 9pm. When I called the store, the woman on the phone said the store is never open until 9pm. So, my conclusion is that either the Mixed Green staff decided to close early because the location doesn't get much business late at night and/or the staff wanted to get home, or the website is just wrong. I had this same problem about a year ago, and I think the person on the phone (I called because I saw staff in the restaurant) said something about summer or winter hours, which I thought was weird at the time. Also, I just tried emailing the "info" email address listed at the bottom of the Mixed Greens website, and the email instantly bounced back to me. Nice. Second, about a year ago, I was doing a random check of my credit card charges and noticed a bunch of charges from a placed called "OrganicLife". I had no idea what "OrganicLife" was, and I assumed I was getting fraudulently billed by some bogus place selling vitamins. I did a Google search and found the website for OrganicLife. About ten minutes later, I finally discovered that OrganicLife owns Mixed Greens. If you want a lesson in terrible information architecture, go to the OrganicLife website and see how long it takes you to find out that OrganicLife is the parent company of Mixed Greens. Do it with some of your friends and see who can find the information the fastest. When I called OrganicLife to tell them that they really should make it so Mixed Greens charges show up as "Mixed Greens", I was told they had heard that feedback before. When I give someone legitimate feedback or suggestions, I like to believe he or she will take action, and I did not get that feeling. Maybe OrganicLife has since made that change, but my intuition suggests otherwise. I would be able to know for sure if I could have gotten into the restaurant tonight and charged a salad. Finally, as far as my actual Mixed Greens experiences. In the roughly ten times I've been to the Erie Mixed Greens, the quality of my experience has been mixed. Sometimes the quality of the staff and my salad is great, other times both are disappointing. Many times I have felt like the Mixed Greens restaurant is kind of an afterthought. A restaurant that someone (I believe a food catering company) opened and never improved or properly managed. In fact, I'm not totally sure the Erie location actually has a manager. It's important to note that almost all of my visits to Mixed Greens visits have been at dinnertime. It's entirely possible that Mixed Greens goes way downhill at night. Given how busy the restaurant is at lunch compared to how almost entirely empty it is at night (I think the late night Erie hours are not long for this world), I'd expect most Yelp reviews to be written by people that go to Mixed Greens for Lunch. That could explain some of the disparity between my 2-star review and the 3.5 average. Overall, I find Mixed Greens to be relatively mediocre, and I have an abusive relationship the restaurant. I've been annoyed by Mixed Greens way more than I've been satisfied or thrilled, but the unlimited ingredient salads and the aged balsamic dressing have me forgetting my disappointment and coming back every couple of months. read more

During class I was hit with a pang of hunger and stomach growling ensued. You can imagine how embarrassing this in a quiet room of artists alongside you drawing a nude model. I decided to step out momentarily and searched for food places nearby via GrubHub in order to pay with my PayPal account since I didn't have cash on me. My options were limited but in the end I decided on Mixed Greens and ordered a Turkey Panini and soup of the day (despite the 85 degree whether outside. That's just how I roll). I was alerted my food would be ready at 1:01 which was perfect since my class ended at 12:30. I arrived at 12:45 thinking that maybe JUST MAYBE (and hopefully) they had finished my order early. Nope nope nope. I was kept waiting until around 1:20. And when I first asked about my order I was given a bad vibe from the woman who seems to hate her job and wasn't very concerned about when I got my order. She simply told me to "wait a minute." Well I waited a minute. I waited five minutes. 15 ... 20 .... 30 ... And still no sign of my order or any indication it was on its way. It was only after another young woman came to the counter to help out the weird-vibe-lady that she asked me my name and got me my order. She apologized but by then I was already late for my next class. I decided to just sit outside and eat it there. Unfortunately my panini wasn't even worth it. Pretty lame actually. Something I could make at home. I'm unimpressed. read more

To avoid getting sick and tired of eating salads every day for lunch, you need variety, and this place has plenty of it. Other reviewers have pointed out that they tend to screw up on the menu salads and make them sorta small, but you can't go wrong with the build your own. They have just about every topping known to man. It's $9 for the BYO salad and it's plenty big when you have them pack on the unlimited toppings. Adding a protein is an extra $2, but you can add bacon bits (big chunks of real bacon) for free. And the pita bread is free. And you get free water in a nice plastic cup, not the tiny dixie cup most places give you for water. All around a solid spot. read more

Tasty salads - you can order a signature salad or build your own. Definitely the healthiest option by my work. A little pricey (this IS River North), and not the best eat-in atmosphere, but taking it to go worked fine. I got a French salad with bleu cheese, fruit, nuts, and chicken. Very nice. read more

I like this place. Been here a few times and had dinner here last night. It is my go to place when I want a cheap and good salad for dinner. The ingredients have always been fresh every time that I came in and the quality and value for my money is good. Their chicken pizza was surprisingly delicious. I'm not a fan of paninis but it was well executed. They don't get five stars because of service. I actually want to give them 3 stars because of service but because I have always enjoyed my food I gave them 4 stars. I assume that their employee issues are due to poor management which can be easily fixed. The employees making the food do a good job, but the cashiers and management not so much. While the people are mostly friendly they provide poor customer service. One time I called in and asked what their soups of the day were and the lady that answered the phone said she "didn't really know, it's just the regular stuff we normally have" which to me is an immediate red flag but I didn't really want soup anyway so I let it go, I was asking for a friend but that wasn't professional. Also I came in at 8:00pm with my girlfriend one night and was turned away. The hours posted in their restaurant and online say they close at 9:00pm and I've gone in there before closer to 9 and gotten service. I mentioned this to the lady behind the cash register and she said, "Sorry we're closing at 8 today". That was irritating to say the least. I have also come into Mixed Greens and seen the staff using the facilities to make their own meals, focused more on that, while customers are waiting. This happened on a late afternoon. I came in with a couple of friends and we waited near the ingredients to be helped. A man that worked in the back and a woman that makes the salads were tending to two fryers they had set up in the back corner McGuyver like. They were frying chicken wings for themselves and laughing and talking about it. Not a big deal if I don't have to wait for service. My friend said, "I thought this was a healthy place, I didn't know you guys served chicken wings." The lady then replied that the wings were for them and not for sale. Then she asked us what we wanted. Also, pay attention when they make your salad, I like salads and different ingredients in mine, so I don't make a fuss, but I have gone in here several times, ordered a salad and the server put all kinds of different ingredients in it as if she didn't know what the salad was composed of e.g beats in the cobb salad or chickpeas in another. I like beats and chickpeas though so I didn't trip. read more

This place is delicious!! Just ordered here for the first time today and it was great! I had the Pizano Panino (it's a little spicy) and the Cream of Broccoli soup and my friend had the Parlez Vous Francais Salad. It was very tasty and the food was still warm when it got here, and it came 15 minutes before the expected delivery time! We were 2 very happy customers. read more

This place could be great but it's not. My main gripe is that one day your salad is a decent size or even huge, and the next day it's tiny. There's some serious variation from one staffperson to the next on how much of each item they're putting in your bowl. The assortment of items and freshness are both very good, but if I'm hungry two hours after I finish eating that's a problem. I haven't tried their pizzas or paninis yet but I probably will as the descriptions look good, and that would hopefully help with the portion problem. read more
