F*cking gross. If you have any sort of taste for food, you shouldn't go here. I came here 3 times-- every time to try to redeem my previous experience. A failure all 3 times. 1. Buffalo Chicken Salad The chicken was cold and rubbery. The breading was soggy. There was more like.. carrots and other things than lettuce. It was so untasty. Disgusting. I still have the taste in my mouth. It's like I ate swamp with a little bit of spicy mayo. It tasted so not fresh to me. I had very horrible lunch sorrows that day. I couldn't finish it. 2. Mushroom Pizza They don't really tell you that you can order half or full, they just give you a full sized pizza (enough probably for 2 regular sized people, or one fat person). They looked amazing in the display. I was getting excited for redemption. BUT sadly no...the pizza is dry as a desert and the toppings, kind of too salty. There was no sauce or anything to tie the ingredients + the dough together. I was eating salty cardboard ass. Also? Side note.. just because you put truffle oil on shit doesn't make it taste better or make it any fancier. In fact, it probably makes it the opposite bc a place like Mixed Greens probably serves white truffle oil which is (according to Gordon Ramsey, and I trust him) FAKE and overly pungent. Make your lips stink all day long in my opinion. So i asked for no truffle oil. I gave half my pizza away. Couldn't eat more than 1.5 pieces. The cashier girl asked me how my last experience was and I told her the buffalo chicken tasted rubbery and gross. She tried to make up for it by only charging me for the price of half the pizza so that's good. But then, she also said, yeah I never really liked that chicken, it's not so good - next time you should get the grilled chicken. In the back of my head, I was thinking....well--maybe the kitchen should fix that shitty chicken!? She was nice. That's why there's one extra star in my rating. 3. Philly Panini Give me some credit - I totes tried all the categories at this place. You FAIL on all 3 levels. BTW, you have to wait obv 5 minutes for this to come out. You'd think these 5 minutes, they'd come up with something at least average. I mean, it doesn't take much for a panini to taste good, right? Also.. it comes with chips- if you're interested in going here at all after you read this. Their chip selection is SPARSE AS HELL. I walked over to the shelf where they 'display' their chips. There was LITERALLY 5 bags of chips. What the? And only 3 kinds in the 5 bags that were left. Lunch hour had just begun, too! I also observed while checking out, people with salads got pita bread to go with it. At the cashier, there's a girl wearing a plastic glove (good job) that asks each customer if they want wheat or white and they literally serve it right out of the bag that the pita bread is shipped in. You couldn't at least put the pita bread in a serving basket or box or bowl!?! or SOMETHING? Weird. I took my panini back to work - sorry, i haven't gotten to the panini yet -- it looked ok. Comes with like 8 lettuce leaves? Mini side salad? uh. The sandwich tasted like 5 day old beef. Like they literally took the beef out of the fridge from a week ago and reheated it 3 times and possibly wiped it on the floor by accident a few times. It was gross! What the hells. It was bland and nasty. It was so sad. I didn't even get the cheese sauce that was supposed to come with it. Not that I wanted it.. cause I've had it before from another coworker's sandwich and its like.. sandy semi-solid liquid fake cheese. Ew. The owners also walk around looking pissed and angry. I would look like that if I read my review of this restaurant..but you have 4 stars right now. (WHY!??) River Northerners are so desperate to find a new lunch option around here, I understand the flocking but let's be real. This place sucks hardcore. SO HARD. Goodbye forever. read more

I stopped in here for lunch a week ago as I was craving a salad and wanted to try something new. I probably should have looked online, or at a paper menu, before stepping into the ordering line, as I was overwhelmed with the choices. Apparently, simply standing in line rendered me invisible, as the server started taking the order of the guy immediately behind me. As the setup was assembly-line style (think Potbelly/Chipotle) I took it upon myself to step to the back of the line, so as not to throw the configuration further out of whack. At least those extra few minutes of stewing time allowed me to solidify my choice. Not wanting to chance it with the meat, I went with the Greek salad, ordered standard off the menu. All was well until it came to selecting whether I wanted my order for here or to go. When I specified that I would be eating in, the guy proceeded to decant my salad into a large, plastic serving bowl more suited to plopping on a table to serve a family of four. Rolling of eyes ensued when I asked him to provide a take-out container. It turned out I was justified in requesting this as I did indeed have leftovers. The salad itself was fine, nothing special, and I found the pita bread provided with it to be on the stale side. For being a salad spot, the seating area at Mixed Greens could have done with a bit more lighting, as I felt it was rather dim. Perhaps with some of the food safety issues to which some of the other reviewers alluded, this is a calculated move. Now that I've satisfied my curiosity I will most likely be on to greener pastures whenever the next craving for a fresh salad hits. read more

It's great to have a salad joint in the neighborhood. There aren't enough good lunch spots in River North and Mixed Greens is a welcome addition. I came around noon and the line was very long. People were actually walking out, but it did move quicker than I expected. There are a ton of great salad options and they are all made fresh to order. I don't normally write reviews, but for this place I will. Very clearly on their salads menu, the prices are listed as $5.95 for 'vegetarian,' $7.95 'with protein'. Being a vegetarian, I ordered the 'Warm Goat Cheese Salad' and specifically asked the girl who was making my salad if that was a vegetarian salad. She replied with a yes, and asked me if I wanted to add any protein. My answer was no. Fast forward a few minutes to when I'm paying for my salad and I get charged $7.95. Upon asking the girl at the counter why it wasn't the listed $5.95, she informed me that in fact, the 'goat cheese medallion' is considered a protein. WTF? Last time I checked, 1 oz of goat cheese had about 6 oz of protein... hardly enough to completely change an item's food group from 'cheese' to 'protein'. I will say, she pointed out that on a separate section of the menu (on the 'build your own salad board") this 'goat cheese medallion' was listed under 'proteins' - but it is also listed as an included ingredient in the salad that I ordered. Deceitfully up charging for items that items are *not* protein, and are listed as included in a *vegetarian* salad isn't cool, Mixed Greens. I'll make sure I spend my additional $2.00 somewhere else next time. read more

This is a make-your-own & customizable salad place. It is like a salad bar with a ton of options, without the ick factor of buffet style serving. It's a bit pricey, especially if you build your own. It almost always winds up cheaper to just go with a menu option, and pick your protein. The only downside of ordering delivery from mixed greens is the minimum order amount, which makes ordering for one effectively not an option. That said, if either location is convenient for you, you can do take-out (just make sure you are ordering from the correct location as I once made the mistake of flip-flopping the two, which they were very kind to forgive & forget). read more

EXTREMELY disappointed with order today. Ordered from GrubHub (favorite place to order) and they completely disregarded all of our "Special Instructions". We usually eat at the other location on Lake street and absolutely love it. We decided to order from this one today and they totally messed up all our orders. All the salads they left un-mixed and gave us less than one half of a container of dressing- when each is supposed to come with two. Many of us specifically asked for chopped and they just disregarded that entirely. Then their driver forgot part of our order and had to bring it later. What a mess. The make your own salad is great--great selection of toppings options, and they also have Kale and spinach for the salads which is not always the case at other joints. This place as recently opened up and take over the spot of a local eatery, Delicious. I was excited to find this spot on my most recent trip back to my workplace in Chicago. They have a wide selection of greens and vegetables so you can make your own salad or order one of their creations. I have had the Asian salad with Chicken which is really good and I also had the Buffalo chicken salad which I enjoyed. This is my favorite spot in River North to grab lunch. I get to add all the protein and vegetables I need, eat until I am satisfied and feel healthy leaving. I'm not a huge lunch person because it gets me tired and slows down my day. So, it was great to see a place like Mixed Greens pop up in my neighborhood. The decor and ambiance matches everything I was looking for in a healthy salad place. There are chairs outside where you can lunch with your friends and the decor isn't over the top "green-friendly" or obnoxious. It's just a comfy, yummy, and convenient salad place that is more affordable than the regular River North salad. I highly recommend the Little Italy salad. Mixed Greens is right outside of where I work, so I love going there for lunch. As a huge salad person, I'm impressed with their variation of toppings and freshness of ingredients. My boss loves soup and gets theirs at least once a week. The line moves quickly during lunch hours, and the servings sizes are plentiful (could be more on meet). TIP: Get the unlimited toppings option and you can make another salad with the leftovers. read more

I did however have a bad experience last time I went when the guy behind the counter literally sprinkled a half a teaspoon of all the toppings on my salad. I was so excited when this restaurant came in across the street from me (it is pretty much the only healthy, fast option in the area). However, that excitement slowly dissipated. It started when they would constantly close early and I wouldn't know until I got there. Although that was a TERRIBLE business practice, I could get over it. But then, they started taking forever to get my dinner ready and were always understaffed. Finally, during my last visit, he told us we had to take our dinner to go because they were closing in 10 minutes. I was a server for yeas, if someone comes in before you close, you wait for them! I LOVE the Mixed Greens on Lake, near my office, where I usually go. I decided to order online today...not realizing that duh, only Erie does online orders, so of course that's where it went. I called the store and Josh asked if I was at Lake St. locale and when I said yes, he said, "Just tell them to make it for you and I've got it." WOW. THAT is great customer service! It was my mistake, and he fixed it without complaint. I'll be back again next week! Okay so I love the idea of a salad bar - and even more so b/c its less than a black from my house. That said, they are ALWAYS out of something I want to order and they are horribly staffed. Tonight - no panini (of any kind), a couple weeks ago (and 1/2 way through making my salad) I was told they were out of the protein/meat I wanted; and another time they were out of 1/2 of the vegetables that came standard in my salad (yet I was charged for it being complete). The people they have working are not the fastest or brightest - actually they all seem kind of "stoned". So while a neighborhood salad joint is great, this one, not so much. I've decided I'm done with this place until I see the reviews on here improving. If you're in a hurry or want a seamless order - skip Mixed Greens. If you want a salad and don't care about the wait time or wait-staff, give it a whirl. For what its worth, when the food comes out and I'm finally rung up for my meal, its pretty good. read more

I go here often because of the proximity to my office. I love the build your own salad concept, reminiscent of the defunct, yet loved Zoom Kitchen. BYO or order from the predesigned salads. Always tasty and just the right amount of food in your order. When ordering a sandwich you can expect exactly that: a sandwich ala carte. No sides, no fruit, no chips, just a lonely sandwich. I suggest they increase the price a buck and throw in some food friends to accompany my sandwich, makes it more exciting and satisfying to any belly. You can pick up chips, cookies, soup, fountain Coca Cola products or bottled, all purchased separately, but that gets pricey for the result. Not worth it for an average weekday lunch. The staff in the kitchen is consistently friendly and helpful. The staff at check out is consistently sub par. I know you're busy, but I just left my busy job to come here, can you bother to say thank you? Sure, it's busy, but the two women who are usually manning the registers seem overwhelmed by their jobs, so much that they forget their manners. Every. Single. Time. You're in customer service, smile and say thank you. Placing my purchase into a plastic bag should not be as bothersome as you consistently make it appear. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. They are not the right representation for the business. Update your menu on the tv screens above the counter, too. The list of dressings is not current. Pizzas look delicious, but I have not tried them yet. Overall, come from the decent salads, just ignore the staff at checkout when judging your experience otherwise you wouldn't return. read more

While the food is fresh and the salads are tasty, lately I feel it's hit-or-miss when I order online for pick-up. It's inconsistent. Half the time I am really pleased with the even & for the $ amount of toppings, but half the time I feel like they skimp on toppings. One time I picked up my salad and the container was so full the top would barely stay on; the next time the container was half-full and I only found 3 half cherry tomatoes in my salad. Two suggestions: if you have the time, order your salad in person instead of GrubHub (they make the salads better when you're present); if you ever order soup online, call them after placing your order to choose your soup or they will randomly choose one for you. read more
