I didn't like anything about this eatablishment, from the akward customer service, to the taste of the miso soup on down to everything we ate. The miso soup was absolutely gross, I've never tasted it like that before and when I smelled the seafood soup I immediately became nauseous at the smell of dog (literally, bark bark) We wasted money on my AYCE because I only at the spring roll and pot stickers, everything else (sushi and my beef habachi) was pretty much wasted. But, their fried rice wasn't bad. They charged me $3 extra because I only ate one piece of the sushi, but it was horrible and it made me sick. IMO there are so many better places around here. I just recently found out about Miya Sushi at a Community Yelp event and finally had a chance to try it out this week. (Thanks, Yelpers!) It was surprisingly pretty busy for a Tuesday night so we put in our order right away & it took a WHILE to get our food. One would expect the kitchen food to come out way before the sushi but after getting our full sushi orders we asked to check the status of our seaweed salads, octopus salad & soups. Apparently, they ran out of the octopus salad & and had to make more soup. Noting the long wait on the first tickets, we really wanted to get our second tickets in before another large party next to us, but the server said to wait until we received our "complete" order before submitting a new ticket. Considering the extended wait, the kids tore through their food. Our kids were hungry so we waited a bit but managed to submit a ticket anyway for another kitchen round. The AYCE kitchen menu didn't have plain noodles or plain white rice (only fried rice) but they were able to accommodate the request. In fact, the udon noodles were perfect. Enough about the service, the sushi was really good and very generously sized compared to other AYCE sushi places nearby. In fact, the salmon sashimi pieces were about double the size of a typical order & the rolls were very fresh & not smallish half rolls that you'd likely get at other AYCE places. The rolls are 6-8 pieces. I was hoping for regular tuna sashimi but the only had white tuna. They could seriously double up on the calamari and fried tofu portions (the calamari were baby-sized ringlets). Food: 4 Service: 3.5 It would be nice if they just informed us right away that they ran out of items and we were slightly turned off when they wouldn't give us additional blank tickets after our kids inhaled their first kitchen orders. Dinner Prices: $17.99 adults, $8.99 older kids, $6.99 younger kids. After all, it is all you can eat, right? Beers: $3 Location: Mandarin just a hop, skip away from another fav, Peony! AYCE sushi made to order in Jacksonville!!!! It's not buffet style but made to order so you know it's fresh and not sitting around getting stale. I love that you can order a nice variety of appetizers, sushi or hibachi. We came with a large group which was awesome because we could order a lot of different sushi rolls and food so we could try a bit of everything without wasting food. Owner was very friendly and accommodating to our large group and splitting up the bill and giving us tips on how to order since it was the first time there for all of us. My standouts were the aged tofu, crab and seaweed salad, calamari, monkey roll and white tuna. Everyone in our group enjoyed it - including the kids! After reading a ton of reviews about this new AYCE sushi place near my house, hubby and I were excited to give it a try. Dinner is $16.99, not expensive but they do have a variety of sushi rolls that I've never had before even though the menu is limited. We came in on a Monday night and the place was pretty much empty. I do like the decor though, very inviting and clean. I've noticed that most of the sushi rolls have either Mango or Avocado in it, which are my two favorite so I don't mind. But after a couple of rolls, my taste buds got bored quickly, so I would recommend try different rolls and sashimi instead of ordering a bunch of specialty​ rolls. The quality of the food is excellent, very fresh and clean. Presentation is quite nice so that's a plus because I do like to eat with my eyes. The portion isn't too big so it's perfect to try other stuff. We ordered the seaweed salad, Tri-color, pink lady, eel rolls, veggies tempura, Miso soup and some sashimi pieces, everything was so delicious. They also have ice cream, I tried the green tea and red bean flavors. They were surprisingly taste very similiar, light and not too sweet. The service was prompt, we had 2 different servers one was friendly but the other one wasn't. The older server was alot more welcoming and nicer vs. the younger ones were not that nice. She also spilled our sauce when placing it on the table, oh well.. Update: So.. we came back for lunch, which was alot more affordable compare to dinner: $11.99 AYCE It was a little busier this time, on a Monday as well. We ordered some of the same rolls from last time and tried a few new ones. My favorite are the seaweed salad and fried calamari for appetizers. The sushi was fresh and made very quickly after we ordered. The difference between lunch and dinner is that they don't offer sashimi during lunch. This place is decent if you're looking to chow down on rolls. Sushi rolls looked good but there weren't too many vegetarian options for rolls. The vegetable tempura was not good. I don't recommend it. It was saturated with oil and it made me feel sick. There was no sauce for them. The cheese wontons were mot good either. They gave me little to no sauce for them as well. A real scam. The waitress waited until we were done to tell us there's a $1 charge for uneaten pieces? Who can judge precisely how much to order in advance? Especially without knowing how big anything is... Maybe, IF they posted this or told people up front, they could get away with this - IF - and - ONLY IF - it was a buffet. You're making multiple small trips and see exactly what you're getting. Should be easy to avoid waste. But to charge people for ordering too much, when they're ordering all at once for the whole table, with no idea how big any rolls or appetizers are? That's a con. A CON. My kids said they were really hungry, so I ordered 2 rolls for each of us. And it turned out to be too much. Honestly, I thought the waitress was joking when she told me. But then the extra charge really was on the bill. Well that "surcharge" came out of her tip. And then some. Not because the service was bad, but because her omission cost me about 15%. This place is the most underrated sushi place in all of Mandarin. It's 5 mins away from Fuji, which is notorious for their all you can eat sushi menu, but this place takes the cake. They have one menu with so many options, as compared to Fuji which has another menu on the paper where, if you get sushi off of it, it's $2 more for pretty basic rolls. But more to my point.. this place is off the charts. The service is amazing, the food is always fresh, and they have this cool little robot that brings your sushi out to you lol! It was after 6pm and the are only 4 customers. 2 people at 2 tables. Our guts and our noses told us to run away, run away. We left and i doubt we'll ever go back. I never rated a place i didn't eat at, however, based on more employees then customers and a bad smell i feel like it needs to be mentioned. If this review is inappropriate please remove it. I'm kindly giving them 3 but this is the 1st time I've run away from sushi especially when we were all hungry. We went to our favorite place and luckily got the last table. So I've went s few times because I didn't want judge just off one visit but in all honesty I think the place is good. Not great but good. The $20 AYCE is a really good deal but if you've never been to the restaurant be sure to ask multiple times for clarification how many individual pieces you will be having once you turn in the sheet. I've seen so many couples and families order misinterpreting the amount of food they will be receiving. The quality of the sushi honestly depends on who is preparing it that day. I've had really good sushi with lots of time and preparation put into it & I've had the opposite from Miya also. The salmon Maki was also fresh with avocado. The ginger dressing my standard is from Sakura and this ginger was decent but not as good as Sakura. The sashimi came with yellowtail salmon and tuna. We have been wanting to try out an all-you-can-eat sushi place and this was recommended multiple times. Overall I like the sushi tasted good. Except the pink roll, which is soy paper was a bit dry, but overall I enjoyed the taste. Personally their Maki roll piece were quite large, considering there is 6pc per roll. My sister barely finished some of her sushi, but we really didn't want to pay $1 per left over roll. The place itself was atmospherically well done and I found the robot server a fun addition to their restaurant. Overall experience was good and would probably stop by again. read more

We have not been to Miya in several years for no good reason other than we found a favorite sushi restaurant (not Miya). However, a recent ranking of sushi restaurants in Jacksonville placed Miya at #6 of 25, so we returned. Based on a YELP review, my husband & I both ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce, his with chicken, mine with pork. We also ordered two rolls, spicy salmon, & sweet potato. I loved the eggplant sauce. It was excellent. However, the included pork was not thin sliced but chunky & chewy, which detracted from the eggplant & the reason for the 4 stars. On the other hand, my husband enjoyed the chicken, so take your choice. The sushi rolls were good. The next time, we likely will sample more rolls. To conclude, Miya is back on our list. It's not in the same class as our favorite sushi restaurant but the prices are reasonable & the menu likely offers many surprises yet to come. read more

When I moved some a little podunk town called Beaumont in CA I thought no one could have less sophisticated taste buds but based on these 'good' reviews I have come to the conclusion that Jacksonville beats podunk Beaumont. I ordered albacore is it's my favorite and instead was served ahi tuna that was pepper crusted so heavily it was nearly inedible even for my husband who can handle spicy food displays didn't have Ponzu sauce which I've never heard from any sushi establishment so my husband ran next-door to Walmart to buy me some rice vinegar so that I can make a makeshift Ponzu. They stated that they put eel sauce on the albacore, so I requested that no sauce be put on my tuna, and all of the orders of my husband's eel came out without any sort of sauce. The waiter couldn't be bothered for any of our request, and seemed very bothered when I mentioned that I had a shellfish allergy and was even more bothered when we asked for eel sauce. We were never given any sort of wasabi or ginger either. The escolar definitely wasn't fresh. It looked and had the texture of a magic eraser at best. After she broke the news to me, I became gleeful, but still hesitant...as if I was waiting for the rug to be ripped out from underneath me. I always get the buffet but all the items on the menu taste great and exceed the expectation of ayce, with huge sashimi pieces and quality rolls with multiple kinds of fresh fish and not just crabmeat and avocado. I really hope they keep it up and survive the COVID-19. They are definitely worth a 30 minute drive for me to come down from the north side. read more

For $20 AYCE, I wasn't expecting much but surprisingly, I'm actually quite impressed with my first dining experience here. My husband and I came around 5 so it must've been early for dinner. There was only 1 other table dining at the time so we did not have any issues with customer service. As tables started filling in, our servers still remained attentive. Our first round, we got 2 of each sashimi, 2 rolls (pink lady and the spicy Thai beef mango), calamari and shrimp tempura. The appetizers came first and were delicious. Perfect amount to be satisfied but still able to try other apps. Our sushi came next and we tested all the sashimi. The sushi rolls were delicious as well but very filling. The second round we got seaweed salad and the sashimi that we liked. We also tried the octopus salad (not our fav) and the crab Rangoon (not the best but not terrible) and continued our third and fourth round with more sashimi. We didn't try any noodle/rice/soup/teriyaki because we came for the sashimi and didn't want to get full but maybe next time. The only issue we encountered is trying to order an app that they were out of and they didn't bring it out or inform us until we asked about it. Even after five rounds, the servers never made us feel like we couldn't order more. There was so much to try. I'd highly recommend if you're a sushi/sashimi lover because we easily spend $40 at other sushi restaurants for way less food. Will be back. read more

Another outstanding recommendation from the Yelp community! We'd heard that quality was declining at our previous go-to AYCE sushi establishment, so a little research was in order. Not only did Miya Sushi have high marks, but it was very near Peony's Asian Bistro, another favorite of ours! We arrived for lunch on another cold Saturday in Jax. Miya serves their dinner menu all day on the weekends, which is $16.99 menu (compared to $10.99). Our awesome waitress brought us tea to warm us back up while we made our selections from the array of choices on the menu. She explained the difference between the lunch and dinner menus was that dinner includes the sashimi and sushi options, where lunch includes only the maki and special rolls. Still a bit chilled, we warmed up some more with miso and seafood soup from the kitchen, while they were making our sushi order. We tried the albacore (interesting), white tuna (very good), and salmon (outstanding to my taste buds) sashimi. The albacore had some kind of seasoning on the outside that we'd never encountered before, but it wasn't bad. For some reason,and the waitress wasn't sure, regular tuna wasn't available as sashimi, only as part of a roll. Wouldn't bother me too much, as I will order the heck out of that salmon next time I come back. We had spicy tuna hand rolls, which were quite good. We tried the tri-color, tiger, edison, and double tuna special rolls. All were pleasingly colorful and tasty. The tri-color and double tuna were my favorites for flavor, because I'm a sucker for avocado. But OMG, the Edison was the visual stunner. If you ask me, they should call one this the dragon roll, because it looks a lot like a dragon you might find as part of a Chinese festival. Our last round included the red bean and green tea ice cream, a fine way to finish. We were absolutely satisfied with the meal and the service, the cleanliness and order of the restaurant. YES to MIYA! My husband and I are sushi lovers and were beyond excited to hear of this AYCE sushi spot! The restaurant had a beautiful look and we were pleasantly surprised with our experience. The presentation of sushi was beautiful and they clearly took their time to ensure quality and service. All dishes were fresh and delicious.
