Meh, everything was just average at best. Here is what the family had: Sushi barely average 3 stars Salmon bento box less than average 2.5 stars Chicken hibachi less than average 2.5 stars, chicken and rice were dry Chicken/shrimp hibachi 2.5 stars shrimp was rubbery and way over cooked Salad 3 stars Service 3.5 stars We Have eaten here before at the train bar and the food was good so maybe it was an off night. My family absolutely loves this establishment! The big draw for us is the train that runs the length of the bar, filled with little plates of tasty sushi. The offerings are usually rolls for those of low to mid adventure tolerance, so there is nothing that's much more unusual than a rainbow roll. I'm a "tell it like it is" reviewer and very picky about service as well as food. In the case of Mizu, the food exceeds the service, but just by a hair. We have traveled to this restaurant 3 times over the last couple of years, and the sushi, the sushi rolls, the soup, the house salad are all outstanding. We've tried many sushi restaurants in the area, including Tokyo House (great salad!), and Waraji (great owner/chef, poor poor service), yet we've found this is consistently the best. read more

I have been dining for lunch 2 or 3 times per month, with clients and friends at Mizu, for probably 4 years, never a bad experience. The staff get to know you by name and usually remember your standard order. I find the rolls and shashimi to be fresh and generous portions. Mizu is great for its diversity in not only what you can order, but how you can order it. You can order sushi a la carte, pull fresh made sushi from the bar train, or order an item from the traditional menu. The staff is friendly and prompt. The food is great, with great portions. read more

Mizu has the best sushi around!!! I've been coming here for over 4+ years now, and don't want to go anywhere else. They do get really busy sometimes but its because they are so good. Excellent! Best Sushi in Wake Forest and for anywhere nearby for that matter. We eat here weekly and especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they have sushi specials, but beware the wait time can be long if you do not have a reservation on those days! They have a sushi bar with a train that serves 1/2 rolls so that you may try several varieties for 1/2 the price. Service can be a little slow at times so just be aware and plan to visit with friends and family while waiting for your food. read more

My wife and her friends went here and when she got home I could not believe how they had been treated. My wife and one of her friends both have a gluten allergy. They expressed this to the waitress in the beginning and they place an order. However, when the food comes, my wife's comes with imitation crab that has gluten in it and her friend that order the same exact roll gets a roll with no imitation crab and mango as a substitute. They proceeded to charge her friend extra for removing the crab and adding the mango, which they did not tell her before hand they were going to do. Additionally the waitress proceeded to tell my wife that because they had made her sushi roll she was going to have to pay for it, even though she couldn't eat it due to it containing gluten. The real kicker is there was not manager there at all and nobody knew who to tell about the experience. This is not how you run a restaurant business, there are hundreds of places in Raleigh that serve sushi. Do yourself a favor and choose another place... I am meeting with the manager to try to resolve this, I am asking for a refund of the roll that my wife did not eat as well as an apology for the way she was treated by the waitress. I will add a comment to this review once I receive a solution to let everyone know how they handle this situation. Needless to say we will never come to this establishment again. ....Went in today to speak with the owner of Mizu. He was really apologetic and explained that what happened never should happen. He told me that if he knew it was happening last night it would have been settled last night. He refunded the amount of the check which was more than I asked for. While the initial response was bad from this restaurant the owner did make it better, its always nice to see somebody who owns up to a bad situation. Unfortunately, while the food was decent (3.5 out of 5), the service was what one might expect from a truck stop. It was obvious our waitstaff was either new or a fill-in; obvious because of the wrong orders and delayed orders. The bill reflected what I received, and not my true order. The ONLY reason I ate it was because I didn't want to wait another 35 minutes for the originally ordered entree. The receptionist/host/greeter was called to the table from the waitstaff, who apologized and wanted to do the right thing. The greeter told me I should've changed it to what I wanted, but now had to charge me the extra $7 dollars it came to. I had already given the waitress a $10 tip for a $37 dollar meal, so the extra money didn't offend me. The greeter continued her stance, was nasty and combative. I wasn't upset at the waitstaff's errors at all, just didn't want to pay for what I didn't order. In the end, I told her the stance she took was egregious and not business savvy. While the waitstaff continued to apologize, this woman lost a regular customer over $7.00; which I didn't pay anyway. Nastiest, most unnecessary, and frankly, the dumbest stance I've ever seen. I will and have paid for bad food and/or inadequate service. I will not ever pay for rude or nasty service. Not twice. Let me know when the new mgmt. team arrives. read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the Wake forest/North Raleigh area. The fish is consistently fresh and the service is typically very good. The sushi train is cool if you are there for a quick bite. I have tried almost all of ther sushi and some of their other entrees as well and I have never been dissappointed. read more

Usually the service at Mizu is great, but this trip fell short of greatness and sadly the waitstaff as well as the kitchen remained in the weeds. My wife and I were greeted promptly and sat within a decent amount of time. She ordered the so called amazingly delicious bento box and I settled for sushi. After our food arrived we then waited an extraordinary amount of time for refills on our beverages despite my many gestures toward the wait staff for a refill. In regards to the bento box, to our dismay, it fell short of our expectations. The seaweed salad was by far the best we have tried. Yet the steak was flavorless forcing us to request extra sauce. This from a culinary stand point is a major flaw on the part of the chef. Next, the tempura lacked flavor and appeal. Overall the bento box was adequate but I would recommend subbing out the tempura on a future visit. Now for the sushi. Upon arrival the appeal was so/so and the size of the sushi rolls were great for a child size portion not for an adult. As for the rice it was terribly over cooked and was mushy in texture. The rolls were slightly too loose which is not the norm for Mizu. As for flavor I would argue that it was average but certainly not worth boasting about. Overall our experience was that of what you would expect from a glorified fast food Habachi express. read more

Before we even order....I tell my waiter I DONT care for Sashimi or Sashimi over rice! My daughter and I ordered Sushi for 2 which is supposed to consist of 12 pieces of Sushi, Dragon Roll, Phoenix Roll and a Cali Roll for $38.00....... Well Misu's definition of Sushi is incorrect! We received 12 pieces of Maki Sushi or another term to be correct 12 pieces of Nigiri!! Basically Sashimi over rice.....NOT EVEN CLOSE SUSHI ROLLS!!!!! Even tho I told him before we ordered i dont care for this type of sushi didnt matter!! I made a complaint to my waiter multiple times, when our food came and when asked if I needed a box.....paid my check sixty plus dollars but consumers beware their menu is misleading and so is their STAFF!!! read more

I had the Train Wreck sushi rolls. They were good. About 8 rolls. A bit pricey, though. Still, it tasted good. Spicy mayo was great. I visited on Monday night, 10/15/12 for takeout. The hostess that greeted us (about 4'11, black bob haircut) was not welcoming or friendly. She seemed annoyed with us for ordering any food at all. We have been going here for nearly 10 years, and at one point, at least once a week. In the past year or so I've noticed the meal I always order has had degrading quality. vegetables appear to be frozen now, instead of fresh steamed. The quantity of chicken has be reduced, as well as quality of the pieces. It's just not like it was when they opened. However, last night the sushi train was not started until 40 mins after opening with only 2 types plates on the nearly empty train. We told our server that one of us was going to be ordering off the train, but there was no mention that there would be a delay and suggest ordering a plate. So one of us ate, the other did not after sitting there for nearly 56 minutes. A complete fail. We will now frequent the Sushi restaurant in Wakefield that some of our friends rave about. Sad to no longer see the train, but evidently 4 sushi chefs can't make it work at this place and the quality keeps declining. If you order to go, realize that your sushi sits at the cash register without being on ice or in a cooler. At least we saw 2 orders sitting for 30 minutes at room temp. read more

The staff are very friendly & hospitable. The restaurant is always clean. If you tell them you're in a rush, they will get you in & out in sufficient time.... I love that the staff always says hello, and everyone checks up on you if you like the food or need anything, its not just your assigned waitress... everyone helps each other out. As for the food; it is spectacular! The fish and other seafood are always so very fresh. This is one of the very few places in Raleigh that serves uni. Tuesday & Thursday's have a selected list of sushi rolls for $5.50. You can't beat that esp since most of them are loaded with awesomeness... In the evening they have a sushi train.... Terrible, will never go back. We walked in with no greeting. We sat at the bar for about 20 minutes without a server. We stopped a server to order a drink and she said "that's not my area". And she didn't tell anyone we had asked. We finally left without any service. The chef were behind the bar and never once looked at us. read more

Service is horrible! Came once before, husband and I had no issues. Last time I went, we were seated coldly by the hostess. We than sat for about 15 minutes as several waitresses passed us and never greeted or took our drink orders. The house was not that full so I'm not buying we were overlooked. This only made me feel, that because we were the only Black customers in the entire restaurant. After I flagged a waitress down and asked for the manager to ask why we were not waited on, is when I got the explanation that we were simply overlooked! Go figure! My husband and I proceeded to leave after I complained to the manager that we felt discriminated against. The restaurant is not big enough to "overlook" anyone! After my husband and I got to the car, they sent out the waitress to apologize. Mizu will not see another dime of our money!! read more

I have been several times for a few reasons: 1) it's 5 minutes from my home, 2)the kids love the train, and 3) other than An @ the Umstead (which is too expensive to go regularly), there really aren't any "great" sushi places in Raleigh that I have tried. My standards may be high given where I have eaten sushi in this country and abroad...so, I've just sort of resorted to ok sushi is what it is around here. That said, the sushi is fine, some better than others at Mizu. I have figured out what to order and what not to order given my frequency. Here's my issue, the majority of the wait staff is fine, and the hostesses are usually nice. BUT, what appears to be the manager, the small framed Japanese woman with the bob haircut is THE RUDEST person I have EVER encountered in a restaurant or retail setting. It's incredible how rude she is. Even if they are at fault, she is defensive and rude and not interested in what you have to say. She is dismissive and I honestly don't think she cares given her extreme arrogance. She must be related to ownership or is owner because I can't imagine why else she would actually still have that job. I have noticed her be rude to others, and now to me after being a client 2-3 a month for the past year. She appears angry all the time which is not a good "vibe" to encounter when you are out dining. read more
